Liz hunched over the spot for a moment, the surface of her mask redrawn into one giant vertical eye as if to see it better. "....it's magic," she said, finally, looking up at the others. "Barely, though. I didn't think to check the floor for magic, shows what I know about exploring tombs! No idea what it does, but there's a pretty great way to find out, and it involves adventure!"

She stood back up, mask back to normal as she swiped dust off her knees. "Ready when you are! I want to see what was so important that they'd attack a museum full of people in a city full of heroes. I bet it's going to be great."

Veronica

Veronica grinned slightly at her two friends' willingness to press on into the unknown of whatever might lie below the mystical trapdoor. "Well, there have been some research groups that have been provided access to the pyramid since the initial discovery. So it might be traces from their time in here.” The teenage Danger replied to Kam’s observation, her tone confirming that she understood it was equally likely that the disturbance had some other cause.

Then, once again the teenager created a hole in air and once again removing an object from the extra-dimensional storage space. This time, it was smaller than the length of rope she had removed up near the entrance to the partially buried pyramid, and was wrapped in cloth. Untying the cord holding the cloth in place, Veronica lifted aside the folds to reveal the golden burial mask that had been the target of the Thule Society sorcerers back in Freedom City.

Lifting the golden mask, she studied it for a moment before looking back down at the section of the floor that Kam had brushed off, the look on her face an indication she was working something out. After a short hesitation, Veronica held the mask up over the section of the floor as she spoke a few words that sounded like Ancient Egyptian.

Liz could sense a surge of magic from the mask and from the section of the floor. There was a slight rumble and then the section of stone began to sink further down, dust dropping down along with it. After sinking down about half a foot, the slab the slide off to one side, reveling a set of stairs that led down into darkness below.

"Well, this is rather unusual." Veronica stated as she looked over to her two friends with a mischievous grin.

Passively observing the reactions of those gifted in the mystic arts Kam regarded the floor cautiously and watched Veronica invoke the mask as key.  He was coiled prepared to act should it turn out to be some sort of trap but it appeared it was as it had seemed, a Key.

"Unusual?"  Kam replied with a grin, "In that there is a hidden passage to mystery and adventure in the floor of the ancient tomb or in that we found it intentionally?"  he joked lightly and took a step towards the stairs into the dark cracking one of the spare light sticks and giving it a vigorous shake before tossing it down the passage to better illuminate what they might find below.

The Dakanan proceeded to follow the light into the passage stepping carefully and alert for panels that might trigger traps or the chance of instability in the stairs as he descended, "Let us see what there is to be found."

Elizabeth shrugged, an over-dramatic stage gesture that moved most of her upper torso as she carefuly picked her way down the stairs behind Kam, studying the walls and casting her light a bit further down ahead of them. "I'd have given pretty good odds that we'd have found it by accident," she admitted. "Crumbling floors or traps full of spikes, or something. Okay odds that opening the secret door would have set off some kind of other trap, too."

She turned her head a bit to look behind, a playful grin draw across her mask while no one was looking. "You'll have to keep an eye out," the young trickster noted, not half as serious as she sounded. "Who knows what kind of boulder could fall in behind us! That's part of the whole tomb package, right?"

Veronica Danger

Veronica started down the stairs first, following after Elizabeth’s light as it moved out ahead of them. For several minutes the light just reveled the narrow stairs leading down deeper between the stone walls on either side. "Some pyramids have underground passages that lie beneath the lowest level of their interior, but they are not like this, nor this deep." The teenage Danger added to her earlier comment.

Eventually the stairs came to an end as the trio of teenagers stepped out into what appeared to be a natural cavern that led away from the entrance to the stairwell some fifty feet and into darkness. The air down in the cavern was somewhat stale and also much cooler than the tomb above had been.

"Well, I said this was unusual before, now it is truly unique." Veronica stated as she looked about the area where the stairwell ended for a few moments.

Kam followed close behind silently counting steps to better estimate their depth, noting where the masonry gave way to carved stone.  "The Pyramid would need be placed to access this, planned from the beginning."  he noted curiously as he examined the walls and floor nearby.  "If memory serves that would have been within the lifespan of the eventual occupant, they could have chosen this place."  he pointed out suspiciously.

He looked to Veronica, "Anything beyond the natural?"

"It's weird that it is natural." Elizabeth was running a finger along the cavern wall near the stairs, a furrowed brow drawn across her mask in comedic marker. "Is it weird that I'm a little more worried about the normal cave than the mummy tomb? If they chose this place then this cave was either really convenient, or really important, you know?"

She pondered for a moment and then stepped in two directions at once, one Masque moving toward the group and one Masque moving toward the darkness, each pursued by their own set of glowing lights. "Don't worry, Masque," said the one, "I'll...scout it out?" She sounded a little bit less sure than she could have.

"Godspeed, Masque!" cheered the other, with an equally nervous mock salute. "Try to be a scout and not bait!"

"...thanks?"

The Masque that stayed turned to her friends, shrugging. "Couldn't hurt? In stories the big hidden caves are always full of monsters."
