Bayview Bowl at the Bayview Mall. Sunday, October 14th, 2018. 5:00 pm

As part of the new intramural squad system at Claremont, members of each squad were encouraged not just to compete together, but to socialize together as well. Each squad was issued a list of suggested group activities, and allowed to vote for their preferred outing. And so it was that on a blustery autumn evening, a handful of gifted students were delivered to the local retro bowling alley for a few hours' fun.

Bayview Bowl was designed to look like it had been around since the 50s, ancient history for today's kids; it's design featured lots of Formica, polished aluminum and buzzing neon, hallmarks of the Doo Wop style associated with the old Jersey Shore. All the seats were upholstered in red leatherette, and recesssed speakers blared out Bill Haley the Comets' 'Rock Around The Clock'. But despite the nostalgia being layed on with a trowel, the Bayview Bowl was a laid-back establishment that appealed to suburban families and offered affordable entertainment and classic American food like cheeseburgers, chili dogs and big chocolate shakes.

"Well, I don't know about y'all," said Lulu Beaumont as she stood inside the lobby, taking in the crashing of the pins and the smells of hot nachos. "But a'hm gonna eat like a pig!"

"I'm right there with you Lulu," Astrid practically roared. Not only was she hungry as all Hel, but she was curious and excited to chow down on some authentic American food. Sure Norway had a bunch of American fast food places in its major cities, but Astrid  spent much of her life in a rural town in the middle of nowhere. So besides a handful of times, usually when she ran away from home, she never really had the opportunity to enjoy the best artery clogging meals America had to offer.

Even with just being in the lobby Astrid could smell sizzling burgers and nacho cheese and it was starting to make her impatient to say the least. She turned to the rest of Team Tang, that was what was calling their team and she dared anyone tell her different, and made her announcement. "Alright, Team Tang. Are we going to get some food first or are going to get some bowling in before that? I vote for food first. I'm bloody starving!"

Corinne did not wait for anything between her and food, as she had spent most the day on school work to play catch up, and had gone for a long jog, and swim, so she was ravenous.  The skipping of meals on accident didn't help...

"Be right there!"  She moved to the concession stand and ordered everything.  Almost. Well, close enough.  She all but pranced back to them with a laden tray, nachos, chili dogs, and a couple huge soda there, setting the tray down next to her seat.  It was there she plopped to swap out her sneakers for bowling shoes.  Then a loud, angry, and insistent growl escaped her stomach.  So, leaving shoe laces she tore into her nachos, "Unnnf!"  And then the sound of savage food consumption, with a pause to look at them wide eyed, "Yoof guys can haf some."  Gesturing at the food, while still shoveling a prodigious amount of food in her mouth, a gloriously, artful lack of self awareness regarding it.

Noisy slurp of soda to clear the food, before she wiped her fingers resuming the tying of the bowling shoelaces.

Tremayne politely reached for one of the offered Nachos.  Not wanting to look rude in front of the aforementioned tang squad.  "Don't mind if I do."   Tremayne nodded over to the concession stand.  "Want anything in particular, Tabs?"

"Whatever,"  Tabitha barely responded.  Unlike her brother, she didn't participate in any group activities growing up that she wasn't voluntold to join.  Which usually was a less than enjoyable church mixer.  Truth be told, if Lulu hadn't gone along Tabitha would still be holed away in their room.  But, the opportunity to pretend to be an ordinary teen was unfortunately tied to socializing like a normal teen as that's where the illusion casting teen went.  Her attention focused solely on playing some sort of bubble popping game on her phone.

The sole male member of the orange squad took the answer as a genuine retort.  "Yes'm.  I'm fixing to get you some of these here nachos then.  I'll be over yonder then ladies."

Abigail had never bowled.

She'd also prefer to not be here, in public, in a group of people she didn't really know.  Which, she realized, was the entire point of coming out here tonight, so she COULD get to know these people.  The young mage carried her sketchbook with herself anyway.  Just in case.

"You can go eat," she said.  "By the looks of the menu, and smell of the place, there's nothing here for me."

"The nachos doesn't need to come with chili, and I think the cheese might be more vegetable than cow product," proclaimed Corinne, as she was wolfing down food at a rate most might consider inhuman, rocking in her seat and bopping her shoulders from side to side to the song that was playing.  Now, theoretically Corinne had more food than the slender thing might eat, but if there was one thing that was talked about was how much food she ate.  Her trays of food at Claremont were legion, and legendary.

"An' the soda s'fine."  Then she slurped again, before sucking at her fingers to clean them off.  She was not a dainty lady, or she compartmentalized her life extensively, and she grew up with a mother who was an something of an uber-Tomboy.  She slowly straightened, and picked up some napkins to start cleaning her fingers the rest of the way, before she sauntered over to select a ball that was appropriate sized for her.

Lulu was glad she'd managed to get Tabitha to come out, even it she didn't seem super-happy to be there; once the redheaded psychic showed her how she could create a convincing illusion to hide her now-metallic form, she was interested enough to attempt a field test, hich was working fine so far.

The young Southerner got her own tray of goodies, including two hot dogs, cheese fries and a Coke. Noticing Abby's lack of enthusiasm for the whole scenario, the redhead shrugged apologetically. "Ah'm sorry this ain't your idea of a good time, but no one's forcing you to bowl if you don't want to. Do you eat fish, or are you a vegan or vegetarian? Maybe we can rustle somethin' up you might like." Noting Abby's sketchbook, Lulu indicated it with a nod. "Look, if you just want to sketch or people-watch, go for broke." She leaned in a smidge more, and attempted a conspiratorial whisper and smile. "Ah mean, at least you can tell Miss Summers you was participatin', right? Maybe get her off your back?"

Turning back to the others as she grabbed a handful of cheese fries, Lulu looked over their odd little group. "So how y'all want to work this? Two teams?"
