What Made My Hamburger Disappear (IC)

Jack let the weight of the shack slowly descend to the floor after Jessica had rescued the civilians out from under it. He was careful not to simply drop it, as that could cause more collateral damage.

He felt himself shrinking as his bones popped and cracked, all the new muscle and bone suddening decaying and evaporating as his body returned to normal. His skin itched furiously from the changes. He picked up the tray of burgers in one hand and munched on one absently, his stomach roaring with the effort of changing.

He noticed the phones out of the corner of his eye, and briefly wondered how that would affect his life...and his parents. He shook off the thoughts, content to deal with those issues if they arose. He made his way over to Jessica about the time the mother was speaking to her, and he was glad that they were safe and grateful to Jessica.

The sounds of sirens echoed and came closer, and Jack nonchalantly took another bite of burger. "Well...dis day has become interesting..."

Jessica nodded to the mother, "anytime ma'am. That's what we do around here." She looked down to the child as she heard sirens in the distance, "what we're supposed to do. Help people." She saw Jack coming our with hamburgers and the burger joint behind him in disrepair. She wondered how much in there would be fixed by Dr Metropolis. She wondered how many hamburgers she could get.

Walking up to Jack, Jessica smiled. "Well, partner," she said comically. The idea of fighting with more than by herself, amused her. She took a burger off the tray and walked over to the kid. She was hungry, but so was were they. Legitimate good deeds, she showed the youngster, even though the gluttony spirit fought her tooth and nail. "It's a big one," she said leaning down to give the kid the burger, "you can share it or have it all to yourself."

Standing back up, she pulled out her phone and went back to Jack. "As I was about to say, partner." She laughed to herself, there went that word again. "I wouldn't mind teaming up again."

"Da." Jack said between bites. "You make good partner...and you are nice to look at. Never hurts." He gave her one of his big grins and took another bite of burger. "It is nice to have someone's back and have it be nice to look at." He added with a wink.

He smiled when she gave the boy a burger, glad to see her generosity. He gave one to the mother as well, and patted her shoulder reassuringly. He nealt down beside her and pulled a strip of paper from his now shredded hoodie pocket and pressed it into her hand. "Incase you need help. Ask for Arctos." He said with a soft smile. He wispered the last sentence, a code phrase to ensure they were actually in trouble. The slip of paper had the number to a disposable cell phone. Jack wasn't one to know much about technology, but he had watched enough TV with his parents to understand the necessity.

He straightened back up and looked at the red headed beauty. "So what's next on the menu? Care for dessert?" He knew of a nice ice cream shop nearby.

Jessica stopped focusing on the burgers for a while to see what Jack had put in her hand. It was a phone number. Did he not have a cell? The number looked like a cell number. She added a new contact to her ever growing list. She needed a picture though. She leaned back on his chest and looked up. He was a head taller. Something she rarely found in other people. "Smile dear," she said as she massaged behind his neck with her free hand while winking at the camera. It was a good picture. But there would be time for others later. She wrote her number on the piece of paper and stuck it in his coat pocket.

"As for desert," she said as she put her phone away. She turned around and looked up at him with a big grin, "let's do that, partner."
