  1. Parkhurst Hotel, Lantern Hill, Freedom City 11 pm October 31st For the last few nights, every magician and sorcerer could feel it, something was clawing its way up through the deepest and darkest dimensions. It created a sense of dread that something very bad was going to happen and soon and it didn’t take a genius to figure out when Samhain or Halloween was when the barriers between worlds were at their weakest. So quickly a plan was quickly put together all of those with suitable magical gifts were summoned, mostly by text and e-mail, to the Parkhurst Hotel to carry out a ritual (at midnight of cause) to hopefully sealing whatever this creature was within the spaces between worlds. That was at least an hour or so however so everyone was gathered in the grand hall with its sweeping staircases doing one of the other favourite things that mages loved to do network and gossip.
  2. So now that the Shrike has been approved, I'm thinking about having a grand opening sale at the new Silberman's location in the University Hill section of EC-OR. This would be an opportunity for any EC-based PCs to check out the new used books and records store in town, and meet Gretchen in their civilian identities. Sign up here if you're interested!
  3. Monday, November 27th 2017: 9:00am, Claremont Academy Zhu got out of the small old Honda Civic and had to just stop and look. While she already had looked over the school with an illegally appropriated satellite, checked every photo that was in a cloud anywhere, and had as much comprehensive knowledge about her new school as she could possibly get, there was something about the majesty of the campus that still overwhelmed her. It was a stark reminder that while information was good, there was nothing that could quite replace actual experiences. Perhaps she would have to do some research into why reality was so real. Around her, the suprisingly warm November day had a glorious feel to it and the students were taking advantage of the Indian Summer, perhaps anticipating the winter to come. "<Go ahead, we're proud of you. You can do this>," her mother gently chided to her in Mandarin from the passenger seat. Zhu, no Alexa, she had to keep reminding herself that, turned to her mother and smiled, "<Thank you for your sacrifice. I will honor your choice.>" Her mother waved once and, as neither of them were fond of long emotional goodbyes, drove off leaving Alexa standing staring at her new school. Brushing back her hair, she took a deep breath and muttered to herself in slightly accented English, "this is where I should be." She knew the path to the registrar's office and began heading across the well manicured lawns not bothering to hide her wide eyed wonder at the diverse student body. Without taking the phone out of her pocket she pulled up the agenda that had been sent too her. It was rather vague, something that annoyed her, but contained at least a starting point to her new journey. Of course, in the name of efficiency, her parents had dropped her off nearly a full hour before she had to be anywhere, but if her schools in Shanghai taught her anything, it was that punctuality was to be observed to the exclusion of nearly all else. She was certain that the Dean would feel the same way.
  4. GM February 20, Saturday, 11.25AM, 2016 The Cresswell Building, corner of Lombard and Madison, Freedom City After making a full physical recovery from the harrowing battle in the Goodman Building, it was necessary for the Claremont students involved to undergo psychiatric evaluation. Riley already had regular sessions with Claremont's experienced counselor, and Naomi was signed up withhim as well, but Robin's trials and the workload on-campus had led the Headmistress to, in a rare moment, contact an outside expert for help. Which was why Robin was standing outside a dazzling Art Deco skyscraper in the heart of downtown Freedom, stylized City Fathers and their hangers-on smiling patronizingly down at her. The sun shone down with unusual warmth for mid-February on the Atlantic coast, the sky was clear, the air marginally fresher, the seagulls making their plaintive cry over the gentle rumble of late morning traffic. A perfect day for sitting in a room answering a stranger's questions. The terse note in Headmistress Callie Summers' handwriting instructed Floor 15. Dr. Chandler. Be polite.
  5. Starbase #00026, corner of 40th and Allen, Midtown, Freedom City, 2nd of April, Saturday, 2016, 50 revolutions since last long-range inspection by the Lor Republic Folding down his holocor screen, Dol-Druth glanced around at the world that would be his home for the foreseeable future. It was warmer here than when he'd arrived on the exceptionals' Lighthouse. The northern hemisphere was tilting back towards SL-43, blazing gold in the faintly nauseating blue-hued sky. A slender sliver of silver was visible through the squat canyons of Midtown's buildings, a daily reminder to the planet inspector that he could be somewhere civilized right now, and not need to leave the system to do it. With a grumbling noise at the back of his throat, the bureaucrat leaned back in the chair of metal mesh, feeling it waver slightly under his hundred-odd kilograms, glancing at his fellow patrons, most of whom either gawked openly or surreptitiously. It was the same with the steady stream of humans going up and down the street, either on foot, on bi-wheeled contraptions of remarkable ingenuity, or in groundcars that roared and rumbled like something out of the Khanate arenas. He'd endured plenty of stares, but for the most part this settlement seemed fairly used to people with unusual appearances, so the stares were pretty much it. It was cutting into his data-gathering, especially since those that did pause mostly just took pictures, giggled, or asked him incredibly stupid questions like- "Are you an alien?" A very large, wholly bald white-skinned man in a shifting suit of iridescent beige swiveled around, levelling a pair of slender antennae and a pair of large, black eyes set in a humourless face at the human pupa who'd spoken, a female with a cloud of kinked black hair, clothed in vivid colours that made the inspector's gut clench. For a second, but only one, Dol-Druth considered saying "No." But he wasn't here to lie to children, he was here to find out what these children were thinking and were going to become. With a forbidding scowl he replied "Yes. I am Planet Inspector Dol-Druth, Speaking for Dotrae, the Lor of the Manymind and the Lost Planet. I wish to learn about your world and-" The girl was already dashing to her very embarrassed-looking dam "MOM, MOM, I JUST MET AN ALIEN!" she all but screamed, which got her a stern lecture that carried on to around the block and out of the Civic Rotundan's sight. Dol-Druth glared at the cup of vegetable-strained water and the clump of sweetened grains in front of him. The Grue Pseudo had told him that coffee shops were common places for humans to congregate and meet new people. Had this all been an elaborate joke at his expense? "I wouldn't expect much more of a shifter, even if he is severed from the Meta-Mind" the insectile Lor muttered, taking a ginger sip of his coffee. It hadn't gotten any better after it cooled down. Settling back into his chair, he checked the holographic sign. It at least was working as intended, saying in bright letters of soft light INTERVIEWEES WANTED FOR INTERTERRESTRIAL CIVIC PROGRAMME Perfectly clear. Joke or not, this place was at least where people were. All he had to do was wait. Something he was going to have to get used to sooner or later. Again. 'Bird Galactic, I hate my job'
  6. Planet inspector and spokesbeing for the Dotrae, Dol-Druth of the battered Lor Republic, has arrived on Earth. His first duty is to examine the changes of human society since the 1950's, which requires him to interview representative citizens of Earth. To that end he's parked himself at a table outside a Starbase, people-watching and inviting anyne who doesn't look like they're in a hurry to sit with him and answer a few questions over the course of conversation and hot caffeine. Basically one of the more chatty issues of Astro City. Who: Anybody who lives or would have reason to be in Midtown Freedom City. PL no object. No group size preference or goal. When: Early April, 2016. Mid-afternoon. Where: Freedom City, Midtown. What: Social only, no combat or skill use whatsoever. Why: Arguing for humanity's merit and learning about the wider universe from the comfort of a coffee place.
  7. It was the early evening when Samuel stepped out of his mom's car and walked through the gates of Claremont Academy. He wore a simple printed tee with the school's symbol on it, some jeans, and a black hoodie for protection against the cold; but what was really interesting was that he was carrying a sheathed greatsword that was just about as tall as he was and carrying it in one hand on the middle of it too, a sure sign of his super-strength. He also had a backpack on that was stuffed quite full. it was after school-and cold outside-so the courtyard was mostly empty at the moment. He wasn't quite sure how that suited him, since he did want people to ask about his greatsword, but there was also that feeling that maybe he should be being a little more discreet than he was already being about bringing a huge sword that people could probably easily identify his soon-to-be hero identity by... though here at Claremont that really shouldn't be a problem since some of the other students were supposedly heroes themselves and he had also thought maybe if he carried his sword in the open he would attract their notice. He still wasn't sure how to go about getting in contact with other heroes here, but he was quite sure that one didn't just go around asking random people if they were a hero or not. Like his dad, most of them did just want to live a quiet, average life and not worry about their powers ruining it... Samuel sighed, pretty sure that he was overthinking this whole sword thing, so he decided that he was just going to wing this situation and see where it went. He stretched his arms (and greatsword) above his head, put a cocky half-grin on his face, and started taking a roundabout route to his dorm. All the while doing his best to make it look like the sword in his hand weighed absolutely nothing, running the end of the sheath around things he passed by and giving it a good swing every now and then.
  8. Naomi stepped out the cab. Spectacle’s contact here at Claremont had paid for the cab from the airport, so she didn’t have to pay the cabbie. It was the middle of Saturday, so she fully expected no one to be around. Maybe the office had someone? She shouldered her backpack and started pulling her wheeled suitcase. She hadn’t brought tons of stuff. As a proper teenager, everything was on her smartphone and laptop. The former was on her hip and the latter was in her backpack. She passed through the front gate and glanced around. Vacant, of course. Wasn’t there a mall nearby, or something? Some of the others here were superheroes, so maybe there were on patrol? She shivered a little. She should’ve though today’s outfit through a little better. A halter top, bolero jacket, and short pleated skirt were good for California, but Jersey was a bit cooler. The leggings she donned in the airport and her super cute knee high boots were probably helping, but it was still nippy. This was why she’s brought so few clothes, compared to the closet that was virtually exploding at home. Different climates demand different wardrobes. Well, that and airlines charge so much for checked bags. There was such a thing as taking advantage of a decent person’s generosity, even if they were richer than Bill Gates. Not that she knew they were, necessarily, but the point remained. Well, this clearly wasn’t the place to start, so she stepped back out the main gate and followed the fence around until she found an opening and the gardens. She could feel people, distantly. Must be in the dorms or something. And there’s a nice helpful sign. Administration building. Yes. Halfway to the goal. Now, if only they had someone who knew sign language. Because the pen and paper thing was getting really, really old. Her phone vibrated on her his. A text? From Spectacle’s burner? And she had to text her parents, too. She put her backpack down next to her suitcase and got to work. Her parents would be simple enough, but her little brother would have about as many questions as Spectacle, if not for the same reasons. She’d be taking selfies just to satisfy both of their curiosities. Not that that was a problem.
  9. September 1, 2015 10:00 AM The first day of class was a day or two away, but the faculty always managed to give the students enough time to settle in. In a cruel move of mother nature it was unfairly hot. Humid. It was like nature was taunting the soon to be slaving over a desk students of Claremont. Even with availiable pools and air conditioning, the weather would keep a student in a summer mindset. Sakurako wasn't one to complain. She hovered over the Academy testing out a new bouy system. The bouy itself floated in the larger pool, sending back info on the water, any vibrations, etcetra, while Sakurako was tethered to a balloon as she experimented with transmitting wi-fi across the campus. She wanted to make sure the system would work when she did her extension courses with a local Oceanographic organization. From her vantage-point, her red and white balloon stood out, although with Sakurako's recently wreckless streak in science and engineering was expected, and she usually had enough fail-safes to prevent property damage. Which would be needed today. *PAFF... TSSSSHHHHhhhhhh* She looked up and saw one of the struts to the light frame of the wifi-transmitter punctured and tore into the balloon. Her weight would not help matters for everything to make a safe landing. Extra internal airbags aside, she would need to remove herself and quickly. Grumbling she pulls a toggle and cuts away from the damaged balloon and in moments is under a parachute as she drifts towards the front of the school. Seeing her balloon was going to land into a empty athletic yard harmlessly near the school, she breathed a sigh as she landed herself. What she didn't realize is the first shipment of new students were showing up at the front drive, just as she was unceremoniously poking her head out from under her parachute. "Ohhhhh boy. Some first impression this'll make."
  10. August 15, 2015 Allies of Freedom Memorial and Museum 11:00am EDT It was a mostly cloudy day, nothing of notice on the comfortable but humid day, storms were expected later, but it wasn't raining on anyone's plans for now. But it was a strange day for one of Freedom City's time displaced and newest additions to it's growing collection of Heroes. Mary Masterson, the public heroine starting to be known as the Seaworthy Sentinel Torpedo Lass was dressed in a uniform, but not of modern times. An exhibit opened up commemorating V-J Day, and the sacrifices not only of the brave soldiers, sailors, and marines of the Pacific Theater, but the many women of the war as well, those that operated in intelligence, or moving supplies in the rear which was still hostile. And Mary knew and looked forward to seeing what she had missed before being unceremoniously taken out of the effort by a whim of time and space. She straightened out her WAVE uniform she decided to get out of her storage locker in her closet at home. Something she keeps all her personal effects from the war that she had when she was found by a research ship. Collected as much trash that was being swept up. Some wondered if Mary was a person working at the museum at first, until it was obvious who it was... her return to modern times did end up in the news once she discharged from the Navy. Her time there felt to her like paying back her time away. She looked at a old picture of her team, mounted in a sealed case. Near the end of her time in what is now the past, she was part of a WAVE flight that handled moving aircraft about in the rear from their maintenance point to the USS Enterprise and other carriers in the Pacific. It was weird seeing herself in this manner... it created a feeling like Deja'vu. When she read the text on the picture, it made her start to tear up. A Japanese plane took advantage of the disarmed nature of the aircraft as they were being flown over and shot down the rest of her team, 6 months after Mary's disappearance... there were no survivors. She looked up for a moment to collect herself as she looked over at the other exhibits. "Shoot..." She said in a whisper, taking off her cover, looking at the WAVE badge on the front. "Seems I'm over 70 years too late, girls..." What Mary didn't know was she wasn't alone... there were others, but not as displaced from the past...
  11. This is a Casey/Miracle Girl and Sakurako/Endeavor thread. I would like people to ask me if they're interested in joining in through forum PM. I just ask to let us do some posting for a while first. This is an informal thread. February 21, 2015. 23:40 Claremont Academy, Simulator room Sakurako was working in the simulator room. It was after hours, and her work was for a advanced programming class set up to teach the more tech savvy students how to deal with virtual simulations. Sakurako had already went through the course work and was now enjoying the fruits of her labors. She had sculpted from the digital clay a beautiful small tropical island, expansive beaches, a marina, and even sea gulls and other tropical things. Even a small beach house. The simulated outboard boat was a nice touch of scripting she thought. She decided to take some beach stuff with her from the real world. Some towels, air mattresses, rings, and a rubber rowing dinghy, and other nautical supplies. Mostly stuff her parents let her borrow. She wanted to test the simulation out before using it for a late birthday party later in March or April to see if it was to everyone's liking once things calmed down. The alien invasion and her injury in January put a damper on her plans, but Maybe having a party around Easter where she could have her parents in too might be nice. She gave a invite to Casey, someone she started to develop a friendship with, to share in enjoying a quiet beachfront evening. Sakurako laid on the beach, wearing a sailor collared sun dress over her blue swimsuit, looking up at the simulated space station windows overhead, a rising crescent moon framed the scene. This wasn't on Earth... this simulation was on a space station. Sakurako was in a Sci-Fi mood tonight... Sakurako assigns the entry point on the dock, facing the island with a wave of her hand. The arch to the simulator room appears soon after. "Well, Casey... I hope this is cool..." She said, waiting for her friend to arrive.
  12. Claremont Academy, Front Entrance to the Quad. November 16, 2014, 4pm Sakurako rolled out her orange colored plastic case out on to the sidewalk outside the claremont academy. Adjusting the blazer of her favorite yachting outfit, she looked over the front of the building. "Ah... nice archetecture... looks better in person. Far more... well sophisticated." She nodded to the driver of the minivan she was in, after grabbing a red colored vest from the back seat and what looked like a reddish orange waterproof bag. She sat on her case as the van drove off as she made a quick call on her cell phone she pulled from the vest. "Hey, Mom.... yep made it to the Academy okay." "Yeah I'm gonna miss things. But... I might enjoy this place. Looks like a legit castle." "No.... I've not harassed any of the boys yet." "Okay, I should go I gotta lug my case inside here... the light dusting of snow isn't making things easier." "Bye bye!" She smiled, turning off her smartphone and sliding it into the pocket of the vest, before laying it on the case. She pulled up a handle on one side and started to move the case. It was obvious the scrawny, yet determined pink haired girl wasn't into giving up very easily. Getting the case inside the main foyer, she sits on it again to catch her breath. "Okay... mental note... hit the gym." She looked around at the old wood hall, taking in the sights of her new home for now...
  13. Mirror ambled his way around Wading Way, it was just after the sun had set, and it was quieter now then it had been all day. Twirling his cane, he hummed quietly to himself as he watched the invisible spirit, Mary, peer down various alleys, and into buildings, when she could, as she tried to get a good look at a part of the city she had been to very rarely. "Oh come on, slow down. I want to get a good look at this stuff, you never bring me down here, and your world has so much new stuff in it." She said as they passed by another Bank where some of the Employees were still cleaning up. "Why don't you ever listen to me? You never do anything for me, please, just, this once?" No longer caring about appearances, if someone wandered up on him, his outfit alone said something was off. "Because, Mary, when I come down here I usually don't have time to be slow. However, tonight there hasn't been anything, so I guess I'll slowdown so you can take a closer look around. I'd say behave, but no one else can interact with you." Humming to himself once more, Mirror slowed down, and sighed, looking up at the sky. Mary was a bit of a pain, constantly bugging him, but he couldn't complain much, he could do things most people couldn't even dream of thanks to her. Though, it would be nice to have a distraction around, talking to a voice in your head, even with the way he's dressed up, tends to worry most people.
  14. Saturday, 22 November 2014, 1400 It was a cold winter's day in Freedom City. And across the city... two phones were ringing. Catherine sighed as she sat in the hotel room she was using, resting in her wheelchair. Hopefully, she'd be able to get out of the dammed thing soon enough- her recuperation from her injuries was coming along nicely, although she'd likely never be able to walk unaided again. Well... powers aside. And Dad was working on a powered frame, now, which should let her fight for extended periods of time... Now, though, her concerns were different, although related, as she called the other two heroes involved in that particular series of events, as a pair of medals glinted from where they were laid out on the bed. "Well, let's hope things go well..."
  15. Monday, July 15, 8:32am Carrie yawned as she walked into the park clad in track pants, and a light grey t-shirt. She pulled a headband out from her purse and put it in place as she got her headphones out and turned on some music. It was a nice morning, or at the very least, cool. It'd get way hotter in the day, she'd be dodging going back to the Fens which without the rest of the city's much more punctual clean up for the tourist city reeked in the summer heat with the accumulation of trash. She could probably go gathering it, but in what? Her car just wasn't big enough, and she really didn't want the smell sinking into it's apostalry. It was this thought track that went through her head, as she hummed with the music from the cheap headphones over her ears that was occupying her as she stretched out her tendons that concerned her as a youngish looking woman slipped behind her on the bench. She was to whistling the chorus when that woman made it a few paces away from the bench rather nonchalently, and halfway through the song when she suddenly turned her head and spotted said woman making off her with purse. "Hey!" The young woman bolted from the spot and Carrie made after her like a rabbit. A rather slow rabbit really, Carrie wasn't a speed runner, and that woman had much longer younger legs. Carrie was at least twenty feet away when the woman rounded around the building that had the rest rooms, and by the time she got there the young woman was gone, Carrie kept running and nearly passed an older woman walking the opposite direction on the path. Something about this woman made her give pause. She turned on her heel and looked at her, there was something off here. It took her about thirty seconds to figure out what it was, the beading on the handbag, was custom, made with delicate fingers, who spent hours getting the combination right and the button that was used as the latch were very large for a handbag, giving it a cute asethic that made her glad she had used the leftover ones from her other projects when she sewed it on. Carrie's eyes narrowed and ran a few paces, keeping her stride even, but more importantly silent as she approached and with a quick pull on the shoulder snatched the loop of the bag right off the woman's arm in one smooth motion as she ran forward, only stopping a few paces ahead to check to see if there was something missing from it's contents.
  16. Saturday, March 16, 2013 2:13 AM "... I believe that is all the questions I will answer for now. I thank you for listening, this has been Etain Maher, next session I will get more in deph about the creatures I have mentioned before. Goodbye until then." Curtis leaned back on his seat as the recording finished, looking up at the ceiling murmuring to himself after just having been sidetracked from his research into fellow local magical superheros and whatnot by her blog. "Should I contact her or should I not... oh come on... you're a superhero, and superheros don't not do things. Besides you should make friends in the magical community sooner or later." He logged in to his email account and started writing an email. From: cwright42@usnet.com Subject: I do magic too Dear Etain Maher, Hey, my name is Curtis Wright and I do magic too. I have arcane talent I've inherited from my grandfather and a magic book he left me. It's mostly a very complex style of rune magic and I've been able to make very complex spells with it due to my already existing expertise in programming and computer science. (You'd be surprised at how similar programming and some styles of magic are.) Though my grandfather might have had other magic books lying around with details on verbal and somatic casting. Still haven't figured those out so I'm limited to whatever spells I make before I head out. I just thought you might like to know about other magic users in the city, since you're putting yourself out there for the world to see on your blog and on your podcast. I think as for the type of magic I use, it's technically not technomancy (not yet anyways, haven't figured it out) and I think of myself as more of an artificer, or perhaps a "program-o-mancer." Regards, Curtis Wright.
