  1. GM 11:00PM The Fens Freedom City, New Jersey, United States Thursday, January 11th 2018 Moe had drawn a lucky lot in working the closing shift at Joe's. The past forty minutes had been dedicated to cleaning up the inside of the diner essentially by her lonesome. With two trash bags in hand, she made her way to the alley just about ready to finish her shift. That was when she heard the scream. It was high pitched and definitely attention-grabbing. The Drunk Tank was essentially a college bar. And the sole reason students attending Freedom College would travel as a group into the Fens without being part of some sort of alternative school club. The bar was actually a remodeled jail, whose design still leaned heavily on its law enforcement roots. In some way a testament to the feelings of law and order in the Fens. Whatever the case may be on this particular night Captain Anabelle Flint found herself engaged in the middle of a drinking contest with a 200 lb. college football player when she heard the blood-curdling scream.
  2. The Fen's were known for many things, violence, poverty, crime, and much more. However, one bright spot in an otherwise bleak spot of the city was Joe's Diner. Established shortly after the Fen's became associated with the theater district, it's combination of cheap mostly decent fare attracted an eclectic crowd especially after a show. It was then that the artsy types looking for authentic diner fare mingled with those looking to get something to line their stomach for a fraction of what they'd spend at some of the more well to do establishments. For most of the people in the Fens, Joe's was fine dining and had a steady but sparse set of clientele. Frank Constanzio, know to the regulars as Frankie stood behind the counter with a scowl on his face, his meaty hand resting next to a sign that read, 'I ain't Joe'. Tonight was going to be that kind of night, one of those Broadway shows was letting out and pretty soon they'd be swamped with every manner of patron imaginable. If they didn't count on the business, he'd have closed every theater night as he didn't need the trouble and aggravation that it brought. He wondered how many times he'd have to let people know that they didn't have tofu anything and sighed while flipping a leathery looking rib-eye that would go in their signature steak sandwich. Well, it was as close to a signature dish as this place would have. Really, fast and cheap was the motto and he'd be damned if he was going to up sell, upscale, or whatever else those cooking shows said restaurants needed to do. With a shake of his head, he slapped the semi tough, but flavorful piece of meat onto some bread next to the bed of greasy looking fries and slid the plate across the counter, "Moe! Order up! One roast on toast!" Of course, it was hard to hear him as a FCPB car came blazing down the street sirens blaring as it descended into the chaos that was the fens. When it had finally passed he shouted again, "Roast on toast is up! Moe!"
  3. Summer 2017 It was a beautiful summer day in Emerald City, Oregon - especially if you stood here on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, far from the noisy, delicious minds of the city and enjoyed the peace and solitude of crashing waves at the base of this seaside cliff. The beaches here weren't like the ones Sensus had known back on the Jersey coast, much rockier and colder, but they had a wild beauty all the same. "Excuse me, miss. Did you need some help?" Turning behind her, silhouetted by an east-rising morning sun, Sensus looked up to see Citizen - the most famous superhero in Emerald City. For his part, Citizen's early morning flight had let him spot this girl by the edge of seaside cliffs that had taken the life of more than one young man or young woman in the last few years. There was a fence - but it wouldn't be hard for someone that small to slip underneath it. At first glance, he'd assumed this was a lost child - but she clearly wasn't too far from his own early twenties, though his black costume and glowing blue chest symbol marked him as a superhero.
  4. GM January 5, 2018 The winter weather wasn't exactly forgiving. Record lows and snowfall were a strain on everyone's patience in sone form or another, and nowhere was it more obvious than among people who worked for Freedom City's social services. Homeless shelters struggled to find room for everyone, from adults to runaways... The situation was taxing enough on everyone that no one really noticed when vacancies opened up. A bed here, a room there... no one questioned it; rather, they were thankful that someone else could be housed, and the fairest assumption was that the previous occupant had moved on. Transient population", they siad. Some people knew better. All Nathan Ratliff wanted to know was 'why'. A local volunteer and social worker, Nathan was well known among his peers for being a big-hearted busybody. So in late December when several runaways he'd been working with vanished, Nathan refusded to believe they'd simply packed up and gone somewhere else. A week later... Nathan didn't show up for work.
  5. Well. Here we are. We use orokos.com for the rolls, which will go here along with any thread related questions and commentary if you can't find me in Discord. As Rose already knows. And I'll be holding onto these Mistress of Despair Songstress (note: when I built this one, I was still confused about the difference between Perception Range and Perception Area. I'll be treating this one's powers as if they had the latter, as that was my intent. Of course, if you're not reading the sheets of your foes, you're now very confused. Ah, well.)
  6. The scene…well, actually, neither Valerie Cain (alias, among other names, the heroic Wayward) nor Yamazaki Moe (aka the vetted rookie hero Sensus) quite knew where they were. Or how they’d gotten to this random city street. The street was lined with restaurants, bars, and clubs of seemingly every possible variety, and tonight business was booming. Before either heroine could reflect on what was going on here, a door burst open to one of the music clubs. Sobbing people poured out of it in one of several ways; either staggering as if their muscles wouldn’t work properly, attempting to return their dinners and drinks to sender, fleeing in terror, careening off walls and cars as if blind and deaf, or (worst of all) clutching their ears in clear physical agony. Clearly, something had gone horribly wrong in that establishment.
  7. Hi gang! Cool Homosapien and I are looking for a GM to possibly run a thread idea we had to introduce our characters Sensus and Miracle Girl. The set-up is this: Sensus works at Joe's Diner, a legendary greasy spoon in the Fens just across Broadway from the Theatre District. It's the type of place where hip young theatergoers might go after a show for breakfast and coffee after midnight. Casey and three of her NPC sorority sisters head over to Joe's after catching a touring company of 'Wicked'. While they're there, thugs of some kind show up to menace the place. The thing if it is, Casey can't reveal her secret identity in front of her roomies, so anything she does will need to be very subtle. Moe on the other hand won't be so restricted. This is less of a pure combat thread and more an interesting way for them to meet, plus endangered civilians! Anyone interested?
  8. For tidbits and stuff.
  9. Sensus Power Level: 10 (150/156) Unspent Power Points: 6 Trade-offs: -2 Defense / +2 Toughness, -2 Attack / +2 Damage In Brief: Emotion Vampire learning the ropes of being a hero. Just enough experience not to get killed. Catchphrase: "Don't be mad!" Theme: "Love Theme" Metal Gear Solid 4 OST Alternate Identity: Public, Yamazaki Moe Birthplace: California Residence: Downtown, Freedom City Base of Operations: None Occupation: Waitress Affiliations: Heroes Family: Mother, Haruka, 34 Description Age: 18 (DoB: 9 September, 1999) Apparent Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Ethnicity: Japanese-American Height: 4'10" Weight: 90 pounds Eyes: Mood Ring (originally brown) Hair: Black Moe is a short slight girl. Some people accuse her of being younger than she is! She has a straight body figure. She wears her hair long and hates tying it up. Due to her powers, her eye color shift depending on what she's feeling. Gold is happy, black is sad, red anger, white is spaced out. She has small fangs, unnoticeable unless she smiles. On her back are several quotes written in Japanese text. Her left and right hips have two rabbits looking at each other from either side. Her clothing consists of loose fit jeans and a tanktop. Her costume is dark purple spandex that covers all but her face and neck, and a dark purple domino mask. History Haruka's pregnancy was an accident. She didn't want her family to know so she scraped up enough money for a ticket to California and left one night never to return. Staying five years she got her citizenship. Moe was born on American soil, so she was born American. Haruka raised Moe as well as the young mother could. The two moved around a lot but eventually ended up on the east coast. Freedom City. Despite being full of heroes and villains, Haruka felt safe raising Moe there. Moe's life jumped around for her first bit, but when she got to Freedom, it was great and spectacular. She enjoyed the spectacular heroics happening every day. Even the small stuff. Of course, being the magnet of weirdness it was. Moe lived through invasions and several near apocalypses. But everything was fine in the end. Moe was very optimistic, even when she was shaken. During the past two years, Moe has been getting massive headaches. Little did she know this was her psychic potential waking in her. But it took a dark turn. She would unknowingly suck the fun out of everything to stop her headaches. She could feed on emotions to stop her pain. That happened every so often, but a few months it came to a head. During her classes, her eyes started to bleed from the pain of hunger. She was blind, but she could see everyone around her as an emotion and how much of it there was. She ran out of the class room before she hurt anyone. She hid away from the world, dropping out of high school and taking to the road. Eventually she found some stabilization, but something she realized, she needed to eat the emotions she saw or get grievous pain. She would feed on criminals and low-lifes until she found she could do more than just eat. She could control! Personality & Motivation Moe is an optimistic person, putting a positive spin on even the darkest moments. She can talk almost anyone into a better mood. She's motivated by a pure form of happiness. the better someone feels the better others feel! She's also motivated to be a hero due to her psychic powers. Powers & Tactics Anyone with a mind she can affect and feed on. She has to get in close for the feeding, but controlling emotion is anyone she can see. So she'll engage the opponent by talking to them, manipulating their mind. Once they're incapacitated and if she needs it, she'll feed on the emotions. Power Descriptions Her powers have no 'look' but anyone with mental senses note that she messes with emotions. Complications Feeding: Moe has to feed on strong emotions. If not... Headaches: ... she'll get massive headaches depending on how long she hasn't fed. Those Eyes: It's easy to read her due to her eyes showing what she feels. Has A Job: Works at a diner 40 hours a week. Gotta pay the bills somehow. Struggling: Sometimes she has bad tip days. Short: She's underestimated, and passed over, and sometimes thought a child, all due to her height.
