  1. Pitch Power Level: 11 (250/250) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: -1 Attack / +1 DC, -1 Defence / +1 Tough In Brief: Infernal Biker with a Demon in her belly. Catchphrase: “Fire me up!” Theme: Alternate Identity: Carmen Cantos (Secret) Birthplace: Mexico City Residence: Freedom City Base of Operations: Freedom City Occupation: Journalist, Rock Report Magazine Affiliations: Blacksmoker Motorcycle Club Family: None (Known) Description: Age: 31 (6/6/86) Apparent Age: 25 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian/Hispanic Height: 5’6” Weight: 55Kgs Eyes: Brown Hair: Dirty Blonde (Dyed) Carmen looks like a slightly scruffy but sexy rock musician / biker. She is good looking, and has curves in the right places. She wears a variety of clothes but tends to favour rock styled ones, such as leather trousers, buckled belt, etc. She almost always wears clothes that some part of her spinal tattoo (that reaches from the base of her neck to the sacrum) is visible. One particular piece of clothing she almost always wears is boots of some sort, so that she can wear a titanium brace around her right foot (easing her mobility problems). She walks with a quite visible limp because of this. When she commands the demon living inside her, Tazel to “fire her up”, her body becomes wrapped in smoke and wisps of flame. Her eyes glow a fiery red, and there is a furnace bubbling away down her mouth. Her clothes will change, become studded, leathery, black and red. The combined effect is enough to conceal her appearance (and thus identity). History: Carmen’s story starts with her father, Carlos Canto. He was a skilled sorcerer in a biker gang (The Blacksmokers), not renowned for being a good guy, nor a particularly bad one. He did, however, possess an uncanny knack for black magic: in particular, dealing with demons. His luck and cunning held out for many years, as he rode with his gang, gaining fame and notoriety, and a long list of crimes including (at its height) armed bank robbery. His luck would not hold forever, and ran out when he fell in love and had a child. At this point, the infernal creatures he had bound and tormented took their revenge through his family. They propelled the Feds into busting him in a messy fire-fight. Carlos knew his time was up, but he wasn’t going to let his newborn daughter suffer for his sins. As the guns blazed, he took his baby daughter and tattooed his most powerful signs down her spine. This hasty and reckless action damaged his daughter, leaving her disabled, but protected. No demon could touch her. The creatures he had bound took him and his wife, but could not lay a hand in revenge against his babe. Carmen grew up an orphan, and not in the best of company. She was fostered, and didn’t have a bad life, but struggled with it. She fell in with bad boys, and bad crowds, and given the fame of her father it was not long before she was hanging out with bikers, rock stars, and tattoo artists. When she became a rock music journalist, she started to peel back the history of her father. She eventually found an old haunt of his just outside San Antonia. There, she found a dusty shack lived an old biker friend of her father, Axel ˜Grease” Robinson, who showed her Carlos’ leather bound diary and his fabled devil stick. Tough as his biker friends were, nobody had dared to read the diary or take up his stick. (Un)fortunately, as she read his diary, she unleashed Tazel, the fiery spirit that Carlos had bound many years ago, and who was now bound to her. Carmen bound him tightly indeed, by swallowing him whole! Through her fathers’ Diary Carmen learned black magic. It came, if anything, easier for her. No demon could harm her, and she could delve deeply into the anger and resentment that had built up in her to summon the “infernal forge”, the ways of hammer, steel, smoke and fire. Personality & Motivation: Carmen is a wild child, and has an inability to settle. She is quite “passionat”, in good and bad ways, able to love and hate quickly. She has an anarchic streak and has broken the law on numerous occasions with petty offences. So why be a hero? Carmen, although driven to free her father, is deeply angry at him. His legacy is a disability from her spinal tattoos, an undesirable upbringing, her mother’s death, and a whole heap of legacy problems with demons. She wants to be everything her father was not. She wants to be a hero. Powers & Tactics: Tazel, the demon residing in her belly can be expelled and commanded, but usually is used to fire up Pitch, giving her exceptional strength and resilience. She will use this power in conjunction with her own sorcery, commanding fire, steel and smoke, usually in a blistering full on attack. Pitch has no particular martial art expertise but is what might be called an experienced brawler. She is also a reasonably skilled writer and reporter, and will often try to work out what is going on via subterfuge. Pitch drives a customised bike that is pumped full of infernal oil. It can become smoky, concealing its appearance (which she activates when she drives a pitch), and is faster than most normal bikes, as well as being able to drive up walls and even through the air. As Carmen, she often keeps a set of kunckledusters in her jacket, as befits her biker girl image. On her bike, she has a length of chain concealed in the body of the bike, that she will use when Pitch. Power Descriptions: Commanding the infernal forge dimension via her black magic, Pitch’s powers are all about smoke, fire, and metal, often in combination. For instance, she hurls smouldering blackened shards of metal or chains at her opponents. Pitch can “Forge walk”, moving from one hot metal to another (as all hot metals have some connection to the infernal forge). She will appear to get sucked into one piece of metal (an engine is a good example), in a flurry of oily smoke, and then pop out in a cough of smoke at the other one. Complications: Twisted Tounges: Tazel, her pet demon, whilst technically fanatical (and who must obey her) actually hates her and would do anything to get her into trouble. He is bound to tell the truth, but of course he may tell it selectively or get her into all sorts of trouble by doing so, using deceit and manipulation. Given he is the source of her comprehend power, that would be one way of doing so (giving interpretations that are correct but misleading). Note: Tazel can be played by the GM as a totally malign and deceptive entity. He is, after all, a demon. As he mechanically is bound to obey Pitch he is built as a sidekick. He is somewhat mysterious and mercurial, meaning different GMs may take a different angle on him. Disability: Carmen walks with a noticeable limp. This makes things like acrobatics and so on very hard or impossible for her, and she cannot run far. She would not be able to operate normal vehicles. Should she be without a cane or her callipers for her right lower leg, she would be very unsteady, unable to run. Rolling Stone: Whilst she generally has a reasonable amount of money from her work, she has no permanent abode, and her resources and money do fluctuate. No Exorcisms Please: Tazel, her bound demon (who normally lives in her belly) cannot abide holy grounds, or religious artefacts placed on Carmen. In such cases, he will be forcibly ejected from her. Plume of Smoke: Aside from the normal visibility of powers, the smoke and flames from her powers could lead her to be particularly noticeable, such as spotting a plume of smoke outdoors from miles away, or the fire making her noticeable in the darkness. Burnt Out: If Tazel is ejected and somehow cannot make a beeline back to Carmen's mouth (which he could do at very high speed, more than his regular flight) - for instance, if he was unconscious, or mind controlled, or there was some magical or energy barrier blocking or ensnaring him, she cannot deactivate the summon. Essentially deactivating the summon to change the array to the "Tazel within" alternate power means she must reingest him. Greased: Pitch’s “Headquarters” are not really hers, but her friend Axel “Grease” Robinson’s. It’s a working garage, and clubhouse of the Blacksmokers MC (Motorcycle club), or at least, what little remains of them. Whilst Pitch has technically bought an HQ and minions, and is on good terms with the Blacksmokers (hanging out with them), there agenda’s could clash. 2. GM Post Great Bay, Riverrock Island, Thursday, March 25th 2013, Superheroine Pitch - real name rock journalist Carmen Cantos - allong with the Captain of the S.S.Gadelica ship - the ship that had ferried Carmen to Riverrock island, which had been marooned on the Island the night the demons were unleashed and murdered rockstar Acheron - S.S.Gadelica crewmember William Smithson, and island residents Dennis and Pedro - both servants of the now late Acheron, real name George-Louis Phlegethon - made their way to Phlegethon's Villa, situated in the center of the island. Their journey to St.Blaise's village, in order to find clues to the appearance of the demons on the island, was met with minimum success, yielding precious few information about the history of the island, before being met with a horde of demons, summoned by a mystically imbued and highly cryptic golem, the Magician. Carmen defeated the Magician, aqcuiring the stone tablet that was used as a medium to materialize and anchor the Magician in the process, but during the battle, Dennis and Pedro were severely wounded. Dennis managed to recover, with some minimal rest, but Pedro's life, while outside of immediate threat, is still hanging in the balance. Deciding to postpone further searching for clues, and prioritizing the safety of the civilians under her care, Carmen decided to escort the wounded to the back to Phlegethon's Villa, in which the servants and the rest of the crew of the S.S.Gadelica had hidden, having fortified places of it in order to stave off the demons. It had been a long, busy, and eventful day since Pitch's arrival on the island. What had started as a prospective interview with a famous rockstar in an exotic scenery, had quickly turned into a living nightmare. A nightmare that was still going... Phlegethon's Villa 15:32 The journey through the hailstorm had been a tiresome affair, not only for Pitch, but for the humans as well. Smithson, in particular, had to bear the brunt of it, what with carrying Pedro on a stretcher all by himself. Every so often, the group had to find a defensible, fortified spot, so that they could rest and catch their breaths. This meant that the journey back to the villa took almost twice as much as it had taken them to arrive to the village. Nevertheless, conservation of strength was of a high priority to the group, and while thankful that they'd finally arrived at the manor, they were largely no worse for the wear than they had been two hours ago. The humans inside the manor welcomed the lot, providing them with water and warm blankets to stave off the cold. Alex Movida, Phlegethon's personal valet and closest confidant, rushed to the help of the wounded servants. "Oh, heavens, are you alright?" he asked, worry written clearly on his face. "Quick, get Doctor Homelock here!" he shouted, and at once a servant went to usher the resident pathologist. Billy Blooms, photographer from Rock Report who had been assigned to help Carmen, ran concernedly towards Pitch. "Boss? What happened? You all look like you've been through hell!" he asked the superheroine, aghast at their disheveled, sweaty, and dirty looks. "More run-ins with the demons?"

  5. GM Post Great Bay Wednesday, March 24th, 17:43 There was no wind, and while the sun had painted the horizon in purple and orange hues, as it descended, the temperature was mild, and the waves were almost non-existant, making for a smooth sail. As a result, the crew transporting Carmen to the Riverrock Island, where established and successful rock musical sensation, Acheron, stage name of George Louis Phlegethon, resided on his privately owned villa, worked and toiled on the S.S.Gadelica leisurely enough. Carmen Canto, from Rock Report Magazine, had been selected, as a promising up and coming journalist, to interview the secluded artist, a feat that would make many journalists in the music scene bitter with jealousy, as in the last decade, Acheron only accepted interviews once every two years. He was still producing new cd's every year, and went on tour every 3 years, but he still avoided the spotlight of cameras as much as possible where he could help it. Still, his interviewers so far could only speak the highest of Acheron, both for his talents, as well as his manners as a gracious host. The captain of the small ship, a woman in her mid thirties, approached Carmen on the deck. "Good afternoon, miss Canto. I trust you've been comfortably enjoying the journey so far. The island of Riverrock is still a few miles away, but it will be entering our view any minute now. We're expecting to dock in fifteen to twenty five minutes." she politely informed the journalist.
  6. Player Name: Supercape Character Name: Pitch Power Level: (11/15) (250/250P) [257] Trade-Offs: None Unspent Power Points: 0 Progress To Gold Status: 77/90 In Brief: Daughter to a famous Black Magician and Hells Angel, with the power to bind the infernal. Residence: Freedom City (Various Rents) Base of Operations: Anywhere (Sort of HQ in Greenbank) Catchphrase: "Fire me up!" Alternate Identity: Secret Identity: Carmen Canto Birthplace: Mexico City Occupation: Rock Music Journalist Affiliations: Rock Report magazine, some biker clubs (particularly the Blacksmokers) Family: None (Known) Description: Age: 27 (DoB: 6/6/1986) Apparent Age: 20-25 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian/Hispanic Height: 5’6†Weight: 55Kgs Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown (usually dyed to dark blonde, occasionally red) Carmen looks like a slightly scruffy but sexy rock musician / biker. When she commands the demon living inside her, Tazel to “fire her upâ€, her body becomes wrapped in smoke and wisps of flame. Her eyes glow a fiery red, and there is a furnace bubbling away down her mouth. Her clothes will change, become studded, leathery, black and red. The combined effect is enough to conceal her appearance (and thus identity). Power Descriptions: Carmen’s own power is a type of black magic that revolves around control of metal, smoke, and fire. Her power comes from a magical plane called “The Infernal Forge†which she can draw on. She can summon chains to bind people, or hurl fire or metal (or burning metal) at her enemies. She is able to control fire, and hurl balls of smoke that suffocate people. These powers tend towards the visible – with fire and smoke being hurled around, and the sound of a “forgeâ€, metal on metal. This is particularly so when she uses her hands to hit metal, changing its shape. She also is almost always in possession of her fathers “devil stickâ€, which looks like a blackened wood cudgel with a brass head in the shape of a goat. Apart from its functions as a club and (for her) a walking stick, it can also bind devils, grants mastery over animals associated with the devil, and grants the holder the ability to “see†devils. The stick is relatively innocuous at rest, but emits an unearthly screeching when its primary powers are being used. Tazel, the demon bound to her, normally resides “within†her and can grant her increased physical power as above. The demon, whilst malign, is totally under her control. She can eject him and command him to act independently. Tazel then appears as a small whispering fire, about a foot high. Pitch (or Carmen) is able to pour some of the Infernal Forge energy into machines or mechanical devices, supercharging them for a few minutes. The object will change appearance, emitting a sulphur smelling smoke, and looking like a heavy metal artist has painted it. This “infernal oil†power can be set to be dormant until the object is exposed to flame, when it will become supercharged. Pitch might use this power to soup up her motorcycle (the most common application), giving it incredible speed. She could also use it on her shotgun, on other vehicles, firearms, or even building equipment. Whilst Carmen has plenty of metaphysical power, she is not averse to using mundane equipment in her persona as a cool, tough, biker / rock chick. She drives a modified motorcycle (adapted for her disability), which has a shotgun and a weighted metal chain stored in it. Of course, she loses these weapons in more polite society or when police are around. She might carry these weapons as a hard ass biker, Carmen Cantos, but usually does not as Pitch. She is the owner of the Cantos Diaries, written by her father, a tome of sorcery and infernal knowledge. Whilst it appears to be a large leather and rather battered regular diary, its inside are a mess of scrawls and diagrams. It is largely incomprehensible, and one is left with the uneasy feeling that the messages inside change from day to day. Whilst it is painful to read and understand, it contains much hidden and black knowledge. The twisted scrawls of the Cantos Diaries can be used for plot device, inspiration use of HP, or even complications (by deceptive or misleading information). History: Carmen’s story starts with her father, Carlos Canto. He was a skilled sorcerer in a biker gang, not renowned for being a good guy, nor a particularly bad one. He did, however, possess an uncanny knack for black magic – in particularly dealing with demons. His luck and cunning held out for many years, as he rode with his gang, gaining fame and notoriety, and a long list of crimes including (at its height) armed bank robbery. As she became – or rather fell – into becoming a rock music journalist – she started to peel back the history of her father. She eventually found an old haunt of his just outside San Antonia. There, she found a dusty shack lived an old biker friend of her father, Axel ‘Grease’ Robinson, who showed her Carlos’ leather bound diary and his fabled devil stick. Through her fathers’ Diary Carmen learned the ways of her fathers’ sorcery. It came, if anything, easier for her. No demon could harm her, and she could delve deeply into the anger and resentment that had built up in her to summon “the infernal forgeâ€, the ways of hammer, steel, smoke and fire. But there was more in the diary. It seemed that Carlos, ever the cunning, had left a back door to get out of whatever strife he was in. His daughter, immune to any infernal power, would be even stronger than him, and his key to escape… Personality & Motivation: Carmen is a wild child, and has an inability to settle. She is quite “passionateâ€, in good and bad ways, able to love and hate quickly. Perhaps her most striking feature is loyalty – if somebody helps her or is her friend, she will always come to their aide. She has an anarchic streak – and has broken the law on numerous occasions with petty offences. Powers & Tactics: Pitch’s main problem is mobility. Her only way of travelling fast is to “Forge walkâ€; hot metal (such as in engines or drum fires) is all, at some level, connected to the Infernal Forge, and if she touches such hot metal she can teleport to another piece of hot metal. Usually when fighting she will hurl metal, smoke, and fire at her enemies. If fighting infernal creatures and she has the opportunity, she may use her devil stick to banish them or to command them. If for some reason she needs to come into physical contact (e.g. to use the devil stick) she might hurl a chain at an enemy and then pull them to her. If she is deprived her powers or they are ineffective, she is still a skilled fighter. Although not trained in any specific technique, she has been around and in brawls most of her life, and would not be adverse to using firearms or other weapons. Empowered by Tazel, she is ferociously (but not superhumanly) strong, and is able to let rage and anger empower her further. Whilst she is a wild fighter, and reckless at times, she is not averse to gaining the upper hand through more subtle approaches. She has, for instance, bound certain animals to her will in order to spy through them. With Tazel inside her, she can speak and understand any language. However, it is Tazel that speaks, not her. Whilst his ability to speak in any tongue or voice is handy, he will try to twist the meaning of translations if he can. He must obey (via a mental link), but translations can be subjective... Kiss Goodbye: Her Infernal Forge magic is based on passions like anger and fury, emotions she can easily summon up. But if she is kissed (by anybody, anywhere), she loses this power until she can expose herself to a flame. On a similar note, she can also not use her powers if particularly calm or at rest. Rolling Stone: Whilst she generally has a reasonable amount of money from her work, she has no permanent abode, and her resources and money do fluctuate. She can’t settle. No Exorcisms Please: Tazel, her bound demon (who normally lives in her belly) cannot abide holy grounds, or religious artefacts placed on Carmen. In such cases, he will be forcibly ejected from her. Plume of Smoke: Aside from the normal visibility of powers, the smoke and flames from her powers could lead her to be particularly noticeable – such as spotting a plume of smoke outdoors from miles away, or the fire making her noticeable in the darkness. Big Daddy Cane: The Cantos devil stick allows the holder to summon the essence of Carlos Cantos (its creator and Carmen's father) and look like him, although it costs. 8. GM June 12th, 2014, 4.45 PM, Half-Moon Summit Park, west Springsvale, Arizona "Found it like this. Last week." said Jane Aqui as she climbed out of the truck, the middle-aged park ranger tilting her broad brown hat a little farther from her eyes, the better to squint at the ungainly, smelly heap in front of her. She'd kept a polite few feet from the new arrivals since first meeting them, the odd crew seeming to get a little more awe even than the usual outside the world's super-capital. Even the evidently taciturn Jane had dug a little deeper than the usual "Can you really do magic?" that seemed to come up every time they were recognized. Which admittedly had been twice. Springsvale wasn't much. At the best of times, and especially when perched a few hundred feet above the valley the town stood in, it was compact and industrious, a collection of pale houses, a brightly-painted school and dark warehouses, offices and factories hugging miles of the scrub-rich eastern bank by a small, fast-running, very blue river, the town's dusty road running south to the I-15 highway only a few miles distant. A few bits of suburbia spilled away from the river, looking very much like fingers on some skeletal hand. Somewhere behind them, far out of sight past the hills, lurked the rugged Grand Canyon's eastern end. Far below, another truck pulled into town, one of dozens they'd seen since getting to Springsvale forty-seven minutes ago. Small ponds and rivlets spilled away from the main Springwater, but beside those distractions it ran as direct as compass point. They weren't there for the sights, though. At least, not the natural, or man-made ones. They had been called here to deal with the giant snake lying in a dead, mouldering heap in front of them, surrounded by sickly-glowing runes. A small camp of white tents had sprung up in another clearing about 50 yards away, from Phoenix University judging by the emblem a few of the laughing, chatting twenty-somethings and dignified-looking elders sported, and the comically grand white-red flag. The heat and wind hadn't been kind to the corpse, it was bleached enough to disguise whatever color it had been before, and was now a feeble yellow-brown. It was lying on its back, belly cut open and resting a gaping, sunken head on its coils. It was already sagging from decay. They had been able to smell it long before they saw it. Ranger Aqui cleared her throat "Gathered you folks knew about this...kind of thing. Heard it from those kids who do that show about the town. It's not normally that strange. 'Least not giant-snake-strange." She turned her squint to the ghoulishly-painted necromancer, the robed witch, and the biker-looking woman with the stick "So..." her squint turned quizzically to the deceased serpentine object of their distress "...what's this mean?"
  9. JAL First Class Cabin, 40,000 ft above the Pacific Despite what people thought the life of a music journalist was not a glamorous one. Many nights in grotty bars and clubs listening to mediocre to downright bad bands. But today was not one of those day for the “lucky†Carmen Canto as she sat in First Class enjoying all that it had to offer. The reason for this lucky break? It seems that the reclusive Japanese Idoru singer Sanshain KinpÅge had suddenly agreed to give an interview. But she insisted that it be in person (if that counted with an AI) and had asked for Carmen by name. Yeah Sanshain’s bubblegum pop might not be Carmen style, but who would turn down a first class flight to Tokyo?
  10. GM Czanarchy Lincoln, Freedom City, New Jersey 12:24 AM Saturday November 8th, 2014 The little roadhouse sitting between 24th and 28th street, doesn't seem to gather fresh customers all too often. Their brilliant neon alcohol advertising signs shine brightly through the cover of darkness and the live music just sets a certain ambiance that lets everyone know that it was a hot destination. The problem? The unrelenting reflective glow of the choppers lined up directly in front of the establishment, and the even more unrelenting looks of the machines' roughneck looking owners. Czarnachy was not just a fine dining establishment. It was an outlaw biker bar. Known for its fair share of altercations. One simply didn't enter Czanarchy without expecting a little bit of trouble. It was human nature to avoid altercations that would lead to obvious escalation of force. Especially as the men and women who frequented the establishment had no reservations about doing just that. Allegedly However, on this night something peculiar occurred. According to eyewitness accounts, a group of five women clad in leather arrived on the scene. Armed with chains and knives, this female biker gang taunted the local patrons until a bar wide brawl began. The leader of the the female gang stabbed a portly looking man in the throat. In her wake the only thing left behind of the man was a pile of ash. In the commotion the bar was set on fire and is still very much in such a state according to the various means the information is spreading (The news, police scanners, etc.)
  11. August 30th, 2014 - 10:07am Liberty Park - Freedom City GM Post It was the closest thing to a lazy Saturday one could get in Freedom City. Summer was just starting to wind down, so everyone was soaking up the last of the summer sun while they still had the chance. Whether it was just running errands, people going out for an early morning jog, or spending some quality time with the kids, it seemed like everyone was outside today. In a perfect world, the day would unfold without incident, but fate it seemed had other plans for this day. Shortly after 10 o'clock in the morning, a piece of space debris made contact with the upper atmosphere of the earth and began its plummet to the ground in earnest. The fiery rock streaked across the Freedom City skyline, before striking down in the heart of Liberty Park. The shock wave rumbled through the streets and a huge plume of dust and dirt hung over the impact zone. Car alarms, police sirens and the cries of the terrified populace filled the air as everyone tried to get a handle on what just happened.

  13. A demon walk into a bar... What you’ve heard that one? How about a demon looking like Linda Hamilton walk into a bar... El espinazo del diablo, US Route 491 (formerly 666), New Mexico (The Navajo Nation) Whilst the Route had been renamed for over a decade, and road improvement had reduced the number of accidents, the route had never lost its sheen as the Devil’s Highway. And after a hard day on the road they tended to congregate at the the roadside bar called El Espinazo del Diablo, the Devil’s Backbone. During the day it was a quite roadside bar with the occasional visit from tourists out to visit many of the breathtaking scenery of this part of New Mexico, during the night it was a much more rowdy place and fight were quite common. Whilst Axel “Grease†Robinson, and old friend of Carmen’s father, had retired from the biker gang’s he did still like hanging out in these sort of places. His Auto Shop was doing well to the point he’d had to take on an assistant, bemoaning why modern Car’s had so much electronics, a young Navajo woman by the name of Rachael Ironhorse. Ironhorse wasn’t her real name but she insisted that everyone called her that. She wasn’t into biker culture, though she did own her own hog, and was currently nurse an orange juice whilst doing something fiddly on her cell. “Well that’s ain’t something you see everyday.†Axel spoke in his gruff voice, causing the two women to look up. Walking into the bar was a woman and not a biker of any stripe, she looked more like a tourists. “Look exactly like that chick from those movie’s, you know the one with the robot from the future.†It was true but Carmen’s accursed stick was also telling her that this woman was more than a look alike, she was an infernal creature of some sort. The “woman†bought herself a beer and sat in one of the booths laying out a large map of the area, only to be accosted by two bikers in Gas Chugger color trying to work out if she was prey or a good night’s fun. The Gas Chugger’s might not be the friendliest of gangs, they’d often classed with her father’s old gang, but even they didn’t deserve the fate the demon might have for them.
  14. GM October 17th, 7:32PM, Farrel's Bar. Her boss, Gerry (short for Geraldine) had told her that a rising star of the Alt-Country scene, a guy who went by John Perdition, was willing to do an interview while in Freedom City. A couple tries, and it hadn't worked out with the guys who normally covered those kinds of artists. Fortunately she was available. Coincidence. Or something like that. The location for the meeting was a simple bar known for it's open mics. Tonight was a little special, and John (a guy with a label deal) was just finishing up his couple songs, singing and plucking a banjo, covering material from more well known artists, ending with a song from a prisoner's perspective. He looked all long, hard, and dusty roads. His voice sounded like an authority when the topics veered to being half-passed out in crap motel rooms on painkiller binges, and having to shield his eyes from the glare of the sun on his hungover. There was some applause as he took his banjo and walked back to his seat (this place generally fit more the 'introspective college type,' less so a tattooed ex-con who seemed at home with making a whole bunch of middle class folk more than a little on edge), wearing a worn in and patched flannel shirt and jeans. He set about fixing the cantankerous tuning of the banjo.
  15. Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 9:52 PM The shining towers of North Freedom weren't exactly Nick Cimitiere's usual digs. Give him the bohemian splendor of Riverside, the long shadows of Lantern Hill, even the ambient decay of an abandoned rail yard in Greenbank. But then again, his usual activities didn't bring him somewhere like this. But then there'd been the stories. A string of tech break-ins still wasn't in his wheelhouse, but the fact that they'd gotten into places that seemed on total lockdown certainly caught his attention. That didn't automatically imply ghosts, but it certainly pointed fingers in that direction. But then there'd been the attack on the security guard. He'd been sedated after his injuries, so the police weren't able to get a good account - but the wounds on his body took on the shape of claw marks. Nick wandered among the looming skyscrapers, drowned out in their shadows. So... werewolves? Demons? Particularly feral ghosts? He reeled through the possibilities in his head, feeling utterly off of his game. And what the hell do they want with tech firms?
  16. Player Name: Supercape Character Name: Pitch Power Level: (10/15) (205/250P) Trade-Offs: None Unspent Power Points: 45 Progress To Gold Status: 70/90 In Brief: Daughter to a famous Black Magician and Hells Angel, with the power to bind the infernal. Alternate Identity: Secret Identity: Carmen Canto Birthplace: Mexico City Occupation: Rock Music Journalist Affiliations: Rock Report magazine, some biker clubs. Family: None (Known) Description: Age: 27 (DoB: 6/6/1986) Apparent Age: 20-25 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian/Hispanic Height: 5’6†Weight: 55Kgs Eyes: Green Hair: Brown (dyed to dark blonde, occasionally red) Carmen looks like a slightly scruffy but sexy rock musician / biker. Power Descriptions: Carmen’s own power is a type of black magic, that revolves around control of infernal metal, smoke, and fire. She can summon chains to bind people, or hurl fire or metal (or burning metal) at her enemies. She is able to control fire, and hurl bolts of smoke that suffocate people. These powers tend towards the visible – with fire and smoke being hurled around, and the sound of a “forgeâ€, metal on metal. The stick is relatively innocuous at rest, but emits a unearthly screeching when its primary powers are being used. Tazel, the demon bound to her, normally resides “within†her and can grant her increased physical power as above. The demon, whilst malign, is totally under her control. She can eject him and command him to act independently. Tazel then appears as a small whispering fire, about a foot high. Whilst Carmen has plenty of metaphysical power, she is not averse to using mundane equipment in her persona as a cool, tough, biker / rock chick. She drives a souped up powerful motorcycle (adapted for her disability), which has a shotgun stored in it. She also carries a knuckleduster (or stores it in her motorcycle) as a weapon of a rock biker anarchist. Of course, she loses these weapons in more polite society or when police are around. He was a practicing occultist in a biker gang, not renowned for being a good guy, nor a particularly bad one. He did, however, possess an uncanny knack for black magic – in particularly dealing with demons. His luck and cunning held out for many years, as he rode with his gang, gaining fame and notoriety, and a long list of crimes including (at its height) armed bank robbery. Carlos’ luck would not hold forever, and ran out when he fell in love and had a child. This hasty and reckless action damaged his daughter – leaving her disabled, but protected. She has an anarchic streak – and has broken the law on numerous occasions with petty offenses. Powers & Tactics: Pitch’s main problem is mobility. Her only way of travelling fast is to “Flame walkâ€, jump into fire and come out the other end, and her disability makes traveling otherwise even more difficult. Disability: Blaze walks with a noticible limp. This makes things like acrobatics and so on very hard or impossible for her, and she cannot run far. She would not be able to operate normal vehicles, and is easy to unbalance. Should she be without a cane or her callipers for her right lower leg, she would be very unsteady, unable to run. Pain and Addiction: The nerve damage her father caused has left her with intermittent neurological pains. This can make her tired and irritable, and misuse things like painkillers or sleeping pills or alcohol. Enemies: Demons, and perhaps even given her fathers’ fame, some mundane groups like rival biker gangs. No Exorcisms Please: Tazel, her bound demon (who normally lives in her belly) cannot abide holy grounds, or religious artifacts placed on Carmen. 17. Saturday, February 1st, 2014 Before midnight (but not by much) Winter had descended with a vengeance on Freedom City once again, but bitter cold and blowing snow couldn't keep young and restless music fans at home. After all, inside the Wall, the press of bodies on the dance floor provided plenty of heat, and the bustling bar provided a different kind for the club goers staying at their tables. Asli Sadik sat backstage, listening to the dance music and to the people outside moving to it. She took deep breathes, calming the butterflies in her stomach. She'd been going on stage for a little more than a year, but somehow every single time she did it she got scared. To distract herself, the woman leaned forward and examined her stage makeup once again. She had decided on a grey-and-black camouflage; she avoided makeup in her daily life, but on stage everything was fair game. A touch there, a careful smudge there, and she had to sit back. Anything more would ruin the effect. Now it was just time to wait.

  19. Prologue Port Regal, Freedom City Friday May 31, 2013 10:21 PM Darkness had fallen over Freedom City. The bright lights of the city’s downtown shone brightly in the darkness, reflecting out over the waters of the Wading and South Rivers and the Centery Narrows. But up in the depths of Port Regal centered round Lake MacKenzie, the bright lights of the city were little more than a glow over dark trees and hills. Once, Port Regal was one of Freedom City's most affluent districts, but it had faded in that regarded in the last several decades. While many of the old mansions and Victorian-era homes had been sold to business or turned into bed-and-breakfasts, there were still some of the old established families that retained their traditional family homes in the area. One such home was situated on sprawling grounds along the banks of Lake MacKenzie. Set back dozens of yards from iron gates that provided entrance through the brick walls that surrounded the grounds, the large stone mansion was dark and foreboding. Most of the building stood at three stories high, though there were a few small towers that continued on for another floor or two. The old structure showed signs of decay and wear. The grounds surrounding it were covered with what had clearly once been a large, well maintained garden that had long since withered away. Tucked back in one corner of the garden, behind low iron fences, a fair number of headstones were visible in the shadowy sections of the family cemetery. The large windows of the house were primarily dark voids, with only a few showing faint traces of light. One such window was tall, curved topped window on the third floor, along the section that looked out towards the main garden and cemetery. The room inside was lit only by a number of candles scattered throughout. The ceiling of the room rose up fifteen feet above the floor, the upper recesses of the room lost in shadow that hid the detailed crown molding that decorated the ceiling. The walls of the room were covered with tall oak bookcases, filled with old dusty tombs. Close to the wall on the side of the room opposite a fireplace was a large table covered with old maps and stacks of other papers. Most of the floor of the room was covered by a large antique oriental rug, other antique decorations faintly visible in the shadowy recesses of the room. Across from the fireplace was an old brown leather sofa and just to the right, also slightly facing the large windows, sat a matching large brown leather chair. It was in this chair that the room’s only current occupant was seated. Dressed in warm clothing, with an old quilt over his legs, the elderly man sat with a large leather bound book on his lap, its pages showing signs of age. Though there were a number of candles on a nightstand nearby, the elderly man was not reading the book. Sergio D'Ascenzo did not need to read the words before him, as he already knew all of what it had to say all too well. The same was true for many of the other tombs contained within his study. The ninety two year old head of the D'Ascenzo family had a gaunt face with sunken eyes that glowed faintly in the candlelight. He was thin and frail, his hands almost skeletal as they rested on the book on his lap. Just beside the chair was the wheelchair that he had been confined to for the last ten years. His breathing was slow and somewhat ragged. Sergio knew that time was growing short, not only for himself, but for the D'Ascenzos as a whole. For forty years, he had spent the majority of his time, and huge amounts of money, researching the family history all the way back to the late Renaissance in Italy. But it seemed that the more he learned, the more an answer alluded him. A sound at the door to the study pulled his attention from the dark shadows of the trees on the window as he slowly turned in the direction of the door to see his butler enter the room. In his early seventies, Walter moved rather slowly as he came across the room towards the chair Sergio was sitting in. Tall and thin, Walter was still in the suit and tie he wore for his duties, despite the late hour. For over forty years, Walter had worked for Sergio, and was unfailingly loyal to his employer. Coming to a halt beside the chair, the elderly butler held out a cordless phone. "The phone sir." Reaching up slowly with one skeletal hand, Sergio took the phone from the butler "Thank you Walter." He replied, his voice weak, and slightly raspy as he paused for a moment, looking at the man before him before he went on. "The time is drawing near once more Walter. Soon I am afraid your time here will be over." The old man standing beside him seemed to stiffen slightly at the comment. "I sincerely hope that does not come to pass sir. There is still time." With that, the elderly butler turned and started back towards the door. "Not enough Walter. Not enough." Sergio stated quietly as he began to slowly enter in a phone number on the phone. As he finished the number, the elderly D'Ascenzo raised the receiver to one ear as the line connected and the phone on the other end began to ring. It was no long before the call was answered. "Hello?" Came a male voice very familiar to Sergio, a confident voice, and more energetic than his own. "Jonathan, it is time to gather the remaining thirteen of us." Sergio said without further introduction. There was a brief pause on the other end before Sergio heard a reply. "Yes uncle. I will begin making the arrangements." Jonathan paused for a moment before he quickly spoke again. "I have been able to track down the necromancer and ghost expert that operates in the Lantern Hill district and will be making contact with him soon. Hopefully he will be willing to provide his expertise to trying to assist us." "Hopefully indeed. This will be our last chance for salvation." Sergio replied. There was a long pause before Jonathan spoke again. "I know uncle. I will see you before the end of the weekend." The line went dead as Sergio lowered his hand back down onto his lap, turning back to look at the dark window.
  20. GM May 20th, Monday, 2013 Beaudrie Opera House, Theatrical District, Freedom City "...And that, more or less, is why we invited you two rockers to our fine institution" explained Celeste Beaudrie, the pale middle-aged woman looking trim and crisp in her austere blue suit and skirt, standing beside the door leading into the backstage. Through the walls thrilled the voice of Marguerite, singing desolately of lost love. The dark hallway buzzed with activity, busy people marching, jogging or dashing past on the jobs that ran the opera. "You go on in half an hour. Everything has been made prepared for your performance and we have some of the best musical equipment in the city if you need more. Any questions?" She asked briskly, checking her watch for a flickering moment.

  22. Monday, April 15th, 2013 7:32 PM The O'Neil Housing Projects were not exactly the finest place to stay in Freedom City. It wasn't like anyone expected anything better out of the Fens, but the place had one hell of a reputation - gang violence, break-ins, and a thriving drug trade. But it was also home to several people who really didn't have anywhere else to go, and who were trying their hardest to reach for something better. Cannonade knew of at least one of them. Darnell Franklin was a guy he knew down at the foundry. They weren't exactly the best of friends, but they'd shared a few lunches and talked about how the Comets were doing. When he didn't show up for work on Monday, he didn't really chalk it up to anything weird - probably just illness. But then Alex - who was friends with Darnell - had mentioned that his phone was going directly to voice mail. After he'd gotten off his shift, he'd decided it wouldn't hurt to stop by the O'Neil projects as part of his nightly patrol. When he got there, he found the place on complete lockdown. Cop cars were around the block, with a SWAT truck or two for variety. And it looked like some of the cops were making adjustments to the types of robots the bomb squad tended to use. Yeah. There's no way this can be good.
  23. Cannonade, Wail, Pitch, and Warp respond to a series of disappearances and find that a housing project has been colonized by the Dimension of Doors. Cannonade, Wail, and Warp all arrive on the scene either because they know someone at the Projects who didn't show up for work/school/etc., or because the news has started to break out over police channels about how there's "a wide-scale event" going down at the Projects. Pitch, meanwhile, likely heard from her pet demon that something is "growing" at the Projects.
