  1. CLAREMONT ACADEMY, FREEDOM CITY, NEW JERSEY, VINLAND, MIDGARD* FREYA’S DAY, MONTH OF THORRI Bobbi day had been fairly normal when she got up, but now she was walking down the drive of a prep school that probably cost more than her town made in a year to meet the daughter of a god. At least she hadn’t had to fly here, and a flying horse was just par for the course in a city like Freedom, and she could stop for a coffee without, many, eyes brows being raised. But just in case she came to Claremont in a taxi as Bobbi. It had been many centuries since Sanngriðr had met any other Asgardians so Bobbi wondered what this young woman would be like, and how pleased to see her as the whole idea that she would be taking her for a visit had been covered with the regular Asgardian bombast. *Earth
  2. GM The Nine Realms, The Branches of the World Tree Góa (March), Sól Hangs Triumphant (Noon) Our saga begins as so many others have began before. There were three young heroes. One was a prince, another a princess, and the third a faithful friend and mentor. From beyond the realms they would come to the mighty and all-encompassing World Tree Yggdrasil. For what cause you ask? A common one for a saga of young heroism. They intended to find a worthy foe and high adventure in the realm of the gods. But in what you ponder? In a dreki, of course! The great and fearsome winged fire beasts of Norse legend. And so they would travelling upon the rainbow light of the Bifröst and descend upon one of the smaller branches of the World Tree. From there they would begin their perilous journey to the fiery halls and mountains of Muspelheim in search of their blazing quarry. Or would they? There was no telling what kind of mythical beasts they would find and encounter along their intended path. Perhaps the Norns intend from something far stranger and wilder for this heroic saga...

  4. January 2020 History Study Group "This text is nonsense," said Eira flatly, setting down their European history book and looking at the other students she'd been assigned to work with bored contempt reflected in her wide blue eyes. "Two thousand years of Scandanavian history and they are obsessed with three hundred years of Vikings. Dum," she pronounced in Swedish with authority. "If you actually want to learn about Nordic history, you should do your own research."
  5. GM October 10th, 6PM, 2019 Riverside, the docks, the cargo freighter Viper Star At the captain's shout, the previously stunned and frightened crew dove under railings, slid back hatches or simply discarded bulky survival suits to reveal the sleek, glowing and deceptively-primitivist designs of Dakanan technology. The rustic sound of their propellor cut abruptly, replaced with the distinct thrumm of a daka-controlled propulsion system. The formerly-leisurely pace of the Viper Star noticeably jumped, the freighter turning to head for the North Bay. "I'm sorry," Captain Imamba said, thoroughly looking it, "but we can't wait until everyone who needs our help can afford it. And I can't let loyalty to Dakana stand in the way of my duty as a thinking, feeling human being. Crew, attack!" The crystal arcs crackled, red light flashed, and the air filled with the muted roar of sonic pulses hailing down on the small group of students!

Lantern Hill, Freedom City October 31, 2019 8:00 PM Mia Mustafic-Markov looked especially spooky this Halloween night. She stood out front of a haunted house, her face marked with a false glasgow grin complemented by fake red blood, and her face was made even paler by white make-up, her eyes made dark and sunken looking by black makeup rimming them. Her neck had a similar false wound, and her denim jacket opened to reveal a white shirt marked by fake blood and three long slash marks over her belly. Yet, the effect was diminished some by the fact that she was dutifully staring at the screen of her phone. She had decided to invite out her Orange Squad team-mates (and Danica!) for the night, in order to get to know them better. And what better way to get to know them than scaring the bejeezus out of them with a Haunted House? Yet, unfortunately, it seemed she was the first to arrive. Which did make sense. She could teleport, and most of them… couldn’t. The choice of venue seemed cool. The Black House, they called it. Not the most creative name, but it was supposedly one of the scariest things ever. It traveled to different cities every year, almost always big ones, and was apparently so scary some people had to check into therapy after visiting. That probably wasn’t true, but it was a pretty great selling point and Mia wanted to check it out. But right now, she was here alone. She looked back at the great mansion behind her, watching as people stumbled out, pale-faced, while more brave looking souls headed on in. Her attention turned back to her phone. Opening up her group text, she hammered out a reply.
  8. Ms. Thursday Power Level: 10/11 (165/181PP) Trade-Offs: -2 Attack/+2 Damage (Strike), +2 Attack/-2 Damage (Blast) Unspent Power Points: 16 In Brief: She's the bastard daughter of Thor and a rebellious punk-maiden of Asgard. Catchphrase: "Djevelen tar deg!" Theme: Enslaved - Loke Alternate Identity: Astrid "Thursday" Torsten Identity: Secret Residence: Claremont Academy Birthplace: Risør, Norway Occupation: Claremont Student, Musician Affiliations: Claremont Academy, The Aesir Family: Thor Odinson (Father), Cathrine Torsten (Mother), Numerous other Aesir gods and goddess. Description: Age: 17 (DoB: January 19th, 2002) Gender: Female Ethnicity: Norwegian/Asgardian Height: 6 Ft. (180 cm.) Weight: 150 lbs. (113 kg.) Eyes: Grey Hair: Red Physical Appearance Astrid takes after her father, possessing the same fiery red hair and fierce grey eyes as the God of Thunder's. From her mother she inherited a row of freckles that are scattered across her cheeks and nose. Having had a rough and tumble childhood, Astrid has always been in decent shape, but her training in the practice yards of Asgard have made her athletic and honed. Similarly, while Astrid always been tall, discovering her heritage has strangely caused her to go through an abrupt growth spurt. Although she’s just itching to be a heroine, Astrid doesn't possess a really possess a superhero costume and prefers her causal wardrobe to classic spandex. She nevertheless does make an effort to at least have the image of a thunderbolt somewhere on whatever clothing she wears when she goes into a fight. Her favorite "battledress" and the closest thing she does have to a superhero costume is a rune-inscribed black-leather jacket with a large stylized thunderbolt symbol on the back. While Astrid has a notable Norwegian accent, its tinged by her travels across Europe, and recently the United States. It's not uncommon for her to pepper her sentences with not only her home country's slang but that of other countries she's visited. She has a brash and straightforward way of talking that can be intimidating when she's in a rage. When she's acting as an agent of Asgard she plays up the warrior princess shtick, ironically mimicking a hero from a medieval play and throwing out "nays" and "thines" for the hell of it. History Astrid was born in a sleepy small town in Norway that most people have never heard of and she’d like to forget. While her childhood wasn't perfect it was mostly a tolerable one. Her mother loved her and while her father was a distant man who would disappear for months at a time he did always come back eventually. That was until he didn't. When that happened, everything changed. Her mother fell into a long depression and once she started using alcohol to self medicate things only got worse from there. When her mother wasn't blaming Astrid for her father leaving, she was berating her being just like him. Eventually Astrid started running away from home whenever things got too bad with her. At first, she tried to find her father whenever she did, but as Astrid got older the futility of chasing a man she barely remembered and her own growing resentment against him caused her to simply travel around aimlessly. Consequently, her biggest role models growing up were her friends in similar domestic situations and the burned-out would-be rockers that she would see performing in bars whenever she runaway to a large town. This cycle of running away and crashing with friends, only to come back for one reason or another, came to an abrupt and tragic end when her mother suddenly died in a car accident during a thunderstorm while she was looking for her. Filled with grief and guilt over not resolving her differences with her mother, and terrified of what the future would hold without her, Astrid purposely got into a random brawl that quickly went too far and became deadly. Fortunately for her, a valkyrie came to Astrid’s rescue and whisked away to Asgard. The valkyrie was sent by none other than Thor, the God of Thunder, who turned to her long lost father. He explained that the father she knew was just one of his many mortal avatars, created to circumvent a Pact that prevented the gods from directly interfering with humanity at their fullest power. By doing so he could return to his favorite hobby of quietly slaying monsters that threatened the world. He also explained how he unexpectedly fell in love with Astrid's mother and started a family with her even knowing that such a union could not last. When Astrid's mother dead, the Odinson thought it necessary to finally intervene in his daughter’s life again and instruct her in the ways of the Aesir. While his explanations didn't do much to calm or convince her, Astrid did accept her father’s offer to let her live in Asgard to hone her suddenly developing powers. After going though some Asgardian battle training, Astrid returned to Earth so that she could finish her education. Given that she was a bonafide demigoddess the only the place that could possibly finish her training was a certain school in the US of A. Personality & Motivation Rebellious, bold, impulsive, stubborn, crass and far too willing to get into a brawl if someone sets off one of her neuroses, Astrid is someone whose fun to be around but can quickly become unbearable if set off. A lot of these issues are a consequence of her father's abrupt disappearance and her mother's subsequent slide into depression and alcoholism. Her mother's death and the revelations about her father's true nature have prompted a positive change in her though. While still prone to brashness, she has learned to rein in a lot of her worse impulses and think things through. Her new responsibilities have also given her a sense of direction and purpose that was non-existent beforehand. Interests-wise, Astrid has a semi-ironic thing for 80s American pop culture, particularly its era of heavy metal music, horror films, and fashion. She used to play baseball when she was younger and has found having a good back-swing immensely useful when fighting monsters. She hates to admit it, but behind her cool rocker girl mystique she has a wide-eyed love of obscure folk music. While she's most knowledgeable about Nordic history she enjoys learning about the folk songs, customs, and traditions of other cultures as well. Powers & Tactics Hit the bad guys with Þórrklubba until they give up or go unconscious or splat. That's Astrid primary tactic, and it usually works, but when separated from her weapon she typically relies on her fists to pummel or grapple whatever gets in her way in the meantime. Though she went through martial training in Asgard and knows some of the basic techniques of the ancient Norse martial art Glima, Astrid’s fighting style mostly takes after her experience with schoolyard brawls in that she is by no means above headbutts, groin attacks, eye-poking and anything else associated with street fights. She cares very little for "honorable" combat. Power Descriptions As the demigoddess daughter of almighty Thor, Astrid possess many of the superhuman physical traits that are common to Asgardians. She's incredibly strong, being capable of various astonishing feats of strength, like lifting a giant over her head without strain and pulverizing villains with only her bare hands. She’s likewise extremely durable, resisting attacks that would outright kill a normal human and doing little worse for wear. Naturally, Astrid shares the Aesir's natural immunities to cold, disease and poison. Along with her inborn gifts, Astrid wields Þórrklubba, a warclub forged by the legendary dwarven weaponsmiths, Eitri and Brokkr. Þórrklubba is a magical weapon and as such can call upon the primordial forces of the firmament: striking foes with bolts of lightning, summoning icy rainstorms, and allowing Astrid to fly at high speeds. Þórrklubba also gives Astrid the ability to teleport short distances in flashes of multi-colored lightning. While a devastating weapon, Þórrklubba looks from a distance like a normal metal baseball bat. This is by design as Astrid wanted a weapon that wouldn't be to conspicuous in public. Up close, Þórrklubba is a martial masterpiece, a silvery club beautifully inscribed by silver Nordic runes that lightly cackle with static energies. When not in use Þórrklubba can be glamoured and take the form of a small hammer amulet. Complications: Reluctant Agent of Asgard (Responsibilities): As the child of mighty Thor, Astrid has a sacred duty to Asgard and is obligated to serve the Aesir (and their interests) whenever they need something done on Midgard regardless of her own thoughts on the matter. GM Suggestion: You can give Astrid a Hero Point whenever her obligation to the Aesir forces her to pick between her duty to the gods and her own personal desires, beliefs or morals. Proud Nazi Puncher (Temper): Beyond the obvious reason of them being genocidal morons, Astrid despises Nazis due to their constant attempts to exploit the power of the Aesir. She's also peeved that their Neo-Nazis descendants infiltrated the Nordic heavy metal scene. She’ll go into a rage whenever she confronts villains that share their genocidal and supremacist ethos. GM Suggestion: Grant Astrid a Hero Point if this single-minded rage impairs her ability to focus on protecting civilians caught in the cross-fire. Black Sheep of the Aesir (Prejudice): Astrid has an fraught relationship with her father and much of the rest of the Norse pantheon. Her father’s excuses for why he left has never satisfied Astrid, and she partially blames him for her mother's death. Conversely, the Asgardians consider Astrid to be a bastard and an example of Thor’s foolish dalliances. To them, she’s a useful agent on Earth and not much else. GM Suggestion: Have beings associated with the Norse gods treat at Astrid with disdain or distrust. Give her a Hero Point if this prejudice inconveniences her in some meaningful way. Violence Is The Best Answer (Temper): She's getting better at it, but Astrid still believes that violence is usually the best answer when it comes to solving problems, especially when it comes to fighting villainy, and tends to resort to it as a first response unless someone can talk her out of it. GM Suggestion: Grant Astrid a Hero Point if her punch first, ask questions never mindset disadvantages her or turns a situation that could have been handled diplomatically into a needlessly violent one. Just a Punk Kid (Status): Astrid is still technically a minor and is therefore bound to certain legal restrictions that can be obstructive to her superhero duties. GM Suggestion: Feel free to give Astrid a Hero Point if her legal status somehow interferes or impairs her ability to act as an independent superhero. 10. OOC for this. Threads will be split into two with whoever goes where once action gets started. To help me keep an overview with the large number of characters, I'd appreciate if you do a quick rules summary of some of the more unusual power uses that might happen.
  11. GM Secret Location in the Mojave Desert, Nevada March 26th, 1 PM Claremont Academy Field Trip to Danger Institute: Mojave Installation The field trip had been announced a bit suddenly, and for a rather varied group of students, spread out across the different squads: Zenith, White Lioness, Ms. Thursday, Gauss, Thunderbird, Salvo, Forever Boy and Veronica Danger, accompanied by their teacher Steph Harcourt. Why they had been the chosen students were anyone's guess, but they were promised it would be quite a treat. And of course, they would have to write an essay about the visit. It seemed that Headmistress Summers would temper any boon with a bane. But still! At first the group of students would get to on a field trip to the Danger Institute's Mojave Installation, hidden in the Mojave desert. The description of the place had been vague. The students had been told that it was a research station where Danger International studied unknown objects found across the world, kept safely away from any population centers in case any of the objects turned out to be dangerous. They would get a tour of the place, and potentially get to see some of the items of interest. As an added bonus, Headmistress Summers had pulled some strings, and the group of students found themselves arriving via teleporter pads, straight from the Freedom League. Quick and easy travel, and they wouldn't miss several days of classes to travel. That was bound to be quite an experience to the students that had not tried something like that before. As the students and Steph Harcourt appeared, they were met with a big cube of a building, 330 feet in each dimension. There were several square windows in different locations all around the building, placed seemingly randomly. As they appeared at the top of the building at the teleport pads on loan from the Freedom League, the students and the teacher could see a pair of helicopter landing pads, and a small cube with a set of doors that led into the building from the roof. At the ground level, two pairs of great doors were situated at equal spacing on each side of the building. The second thing that the students were met with were sand blowing absolutely everywhere. Not a pleasant experience, by all accounts. The third and last thing was a man with a red scarf tied over his mouth and nose, with thick goggles over his eyes. He was wearing khaki shorts and a dark grey t-shirt, and was shouting for them to get inside, leading the group to the entrance. "C'mon! The storm'll pass soon, but no reason to get caught up in it!"
  12. The Kirby November 10th, 1:30 PM Corinne had passes to a private showing before the public launch. Likely from her father. It didn't matter, really, though. As it was a show of modern Dakanan art, on a day the museum was normally closed, but for an exclusive viewing. Of course, she wasn't the only one with passes. Other people had them and she had been a bit free with handing them out at Claremont, so even some people who weren't really friends with her got some. Since Hannah left she felt a little... lost, and really just delved harder into the dancing. Until the injury, and the setback. But she didn't have much else. And no roommate meant she had no impetus to reach out, apart from stuff for the Orange team. Right now, she was standing there in front of a complicated mixed media sculpture, chewing thoughtfully as she took in the piece that dominated the room with it's abstract representation of... something. She wasn't quite sure what. But it seemed very insistent. She wore a pair of overalls, with her daisy adorned hat, and a big green sweatshirt on under the straps, and a pair of similarly green Doc Martens.
  13. Seven years ago "Perhaps, one day, Dunwich would rise again. Not as an exercise for visions of madness, but as a true place of realization." Thanksgiving 2018 The Parkhurst Hotel Arcane energies crackling around its edges like so much barely-suppressed lightning, the mystic gateway opened and out stepped a visio n from beyond the very edges of our reality! Resplendent in his starry robes, his eyes glowing with the energies that lay between the planes, the Gatekeeper raised his gloved hands and said, "Hello, Nick!" Kyle and Eric were actually on a first-name basis but they both were working, the latter especially. With the holidays, Claremont students with no particular place to go had been attached to established heroes for a "ride-along" - which explained what Ms. Thursday was doing there. "And company, I see." The Gatekeeper brushed his hair, looking a little distracted; the faint smell of smoke rising from him. "Are the two of you free for a small favor?" he asked. "I hate to interrupt whatever you're doing for the holidays, but I have a situation."
  14. September 4, 2018 Claremont Academy (Fourth Floor, Rita Kord Dorm) Jaycee had suggested they meet people before the assembly. "The first time you meet somebody, you set the tone for the whole rest of your relationship. If I meet them now, when Ah want to and on mah terms, that'll make it easier to stay in control. And Ah gotta stay in control, right?" It was actually one of the most perspicacious things Ashley had ever heard her charge say - and certainly the longest string of words she'd put together since a recently-drained Jaycee had parted company with the bulk of her Secret Service detail at an undisclosed location and headed onto Claremont's campus that weekend. They'd come in early, before any of the other students arrived, and Jaycee had spent most of her time in her room studying and texting to her sisters. And so it was that the "sisters" headed out into the fourth floor hallway, Ashley taking the lead as she would for the next two years. Jesus Christ, she took a moment to think before she took in the scenery. 410 was down at the end of one hall on the fourth floor, with 409 and 411 on either side a little further towards the main staircase. There were backstairs too, of course, and escape hatches that the sophomore students probably weren't going to find out about yet. Ashley was dressed for her part in a leather jacket, denim shirt, and scuffed jeans. She'd told her handlers that the pink dye in her hair cut down on the "look" she was trying to present, but they'd told her it would soften her image. By which they mean not make me look like a lesbian. She contemplatively chewed a toothpick as she scanned the hall, then took a look back at Jaycee as she closed the door behind her. "Judy" Smith didn't look much at all like her First Daughter self - with her long hair loose and hanging down her back, in baggy brown shirt and slacks that had made her make a single small noise at the sight of them, she looked like one of the refugees they were pretending to be. She was smiling the smile of someone who'd had media training, though, as she ran her fingers against the gold cross she wore around her neck. That was new too; a gift from the First Lady that nobody had seen in public yet. "Well?" It was true - Ashley had to lead the way on this one. She headed down the corridor, looking for open doors - or the sounds of activity inside them.
