  1. GM 3PM, March 4th, 2020 The Riverfront District It was perhaps appropriate that Sunburn, Dinostroyer and Metamind had been brought back to the Riverfront district that they had attacked. Their trial had, despite the overwhelming evidence, lasted a few weeks now. It was not much of an argument of guilt, it was more a question of how bad, and how to punish someone that didn't seem to exist. As it turned out, it seemed that Sunburn's claim that that the trio was from another world had been true. Or, at the very least, they had been good at hiding any trace of themselves. Now, a verdict had been reached. Property damage, mind control, but thankfully, no fatalities, and mostly minor injuries. The Upstarts were to be sent to an A.E.G.I.S. holding facility closer to Freedom City, far from Emerald City. Super villains were not something that happened in Emerald City, after all, so they had no way of keeping them. As the group was loaded into individual trucks, they were still wearing the power dampening equipment created by MarsTech. Dinostroyer wore heavy chains, Metamind had been outfitted with a helmet and Sunburn was inside a large tank filled with a strange fluid, with a breathing apparatus around her mouth and nose. She looked even more pissed off than the rest. The trucks didn't far before they simply stopped. The drivers got out, any guards simply left... and then the first shots were fired towards the prison transports. Emerald City was not a city of villains, and it seemed that being a villain here came with its own consequences.

  3. GM Riverfront August 9th 2019, 4 PM The Riverfront district was as busy as ever on the Friday afternoon. City officials trying to get the last bit of work done before the weekend, locals and visitors starting their weekend in the nearby culture centers and the Yellow Brick Row shopping complex. Traffic had slowed down considerably. Everyone wanted to go somewhere. All in all, a typical Friday afternoon in Emerald City. Peace and quiet, as you would normally find in a city without super villains. Until, suddenly, several men and women stopped what they were doing, and exited their cars. A young man, maybe in his early twenties, stood nearby, appearing seemingly from out of nowhere. He was dressed in a costume with dark and light blue stripes at a 45 degree angle all over his body. He wore light blue boots and small gloves in the same color as the light blue stripes, and had a hood pulled up with the same striped pattern. His eyes were hidden behind a light blue domino mask. One could just spot his short blonde hair at the edges of the hood. His eyes seemed to be glowing white as people left their cards, starting to walk after him and towards the government buildings. Then came the sound, a loud crash as someone big came barelling through the traffic, flipping the cars out of the way while laughing loudly. The ones that caught a good look at him could see a large man, standing at least 10 feet tall, clad in what appeared to be grey armor, stylized like a triceratops, including a large helmet that mimicked that of a triceratops' head: A large flat shield, a pair of horns at his forehead, and a small horn on a part of his helmet over his nose. His eyes were hidden behind black lenses that connected directly to the helmet, while his mouth was left visible. The rest of his armor was the same dull grey as the helmet, consisting of several armored plates interconnecting along his body. He seemed to be running with little rhyme or reason, instead seeming to cause just as much chaos as he could. He didn't seem to care if he hit already empty cars, or cars that still held passengers. Moments after the man had begun his rampage, a bright light illuminated the sky. A woman in a red costume flew from the sky, leaving a trail of fire behind her as she moved. A white sun symbol at the center of her chest seemed to glow as she sent streams of fire flying randomly across the area around her. The yellow goggles that protected her eyes seemed to reflect the light from her flames as she set whatever random targets caught her sight on fire. The goggles were held in place by a heavy leather strap that went over her short black hair. Fire burning in her hands, she came to a stop, hovering above a rather large group of people. "Listen up! I'm Sunburn, and we're the Upstarts! I don't know how a city like this have been this quiet this long, but that's gonna change! This is our city now! So all of you better start handing over everything you got!" Smart phones were capturing everything already. What better place to attack than a city with no other villains? Nowhere to step on your toes or take your score? But the Upstarts had made one mistake: While Emerald City was a city without villains, it was not a city without heroes.

  5. Water between Townsville and Magnetic Island. Queensland, Australia 2017 Thursday, February 2nd, 2017 9:00 AM It was a brisk and cool morning, and four Claremont Alumni found themselves leaving Magnetic Island back towards Townsville, Australia. Specifically to the Australian institute of marine science. Having spent the weekend near the vicinity of the Cockle Bay Reef, for Giang Trang's studies. Aside from surfers, fishers, and those preparing for tours the morning was relatively calm. All in all, it was a good start to the day. In the distance, Kimo Keli'i was steadying himself on his surfboard. Freedom College wasn't swimming in money, it took an entire semester of fund raising just for the surf club to save up for this three day trip to Australia. As such no one was looking to waste the opportunity as a swell began to form. Unfortunately, one of the less experienced members of the club fell off his board in between waves and began frantically splashing around worriedly.
  6. CN: Date: Late July, 2016 Location: The Beach, Port Regal The Atlantic might be colder than the sea that Leilani had grown up loving, but the waves held a familiar rhythm and even if the sand was darker, the beach more rocky, working it with Kimo held a certain strange familiarity. It wasn't home - not quite - but it wasn't utterly foreign either. Which, perhaps, made it an appropriate place for a not-quite impromptu celebration of sorts. At least, with having begun to shift her things out of the League headquarters and into the Dutemps building, Leilani had accepted and acknowledged that while her powers remained concerning, they weren't actually out of her control. Her good-natured nephew (Leilani couldn't call him her great-nephew still with a straight face) had been all for an evening of surfing and beach barbecue, not to mention meeting more of the super-hero community and the off-hand invitation had been extended towards the rest of those calling the castle home. Leilani had traded her life-guard swimsuit for an off duty alternate. With a sarong knotted around her waist, she set about setting up the wood with the intent of setting up a proper bon-fire, pausing to wave over the guests she recognized when they arrived. "Kimo, watch yourself, yeah? Gonna put up some bumpers," she paused in her building of the small wood tower to gesture, mounding up the sand and rock to form larger banks to provide at least a little bit of visual privacy from the rest of the stretch of the beach. "Remind me to put that back afterwards." Leilani added in a mutter as she returned her attention to stacking wood.
  7. GM August 3rd, 2016, 2.44 PM Freedom City South River Waterfront The last of the Magmin dropped, hissing, back into the water, lumbering into the blazing hole into Sub-Terra from whence the bizarre semi-molten invaders came. A ragged cheer rang from the very terrified and now very relieved crew of the Chang Ping Xian, who had crowded onto the half of the freight ship that wasn't submerged and partially wedged into the cavern. "Thank you, thank you!" Captain Wong hollered up to the two superheroes, bobbing on his half-melted cargo container and looking much the worse for wear from the brief, fiery and watery battle. Plucking his charred hat from the water, the lean captain added hopefully "I do not mean to impose, but would you please help get my crew to shore? Those things, well, they burned all the lifeboats." Meanwhile, the large motorboat festooned with its quasi-religious banners had stopped holding off thanks to the giant waves and the rock and fire being flung around. This much closer, it quickly became obvious that several of the banners had a similar 'pinnacle' shape to that of the self-help quasi-cult of the Pinnacle Path. The bits about "Hail the New Gods!" and "Lead us to the Heavenly Spire" was new.
  8. @alderwitch @angrydurf OOC for this thread. Lots of water stuff in this one.
  9. OOC for this thread In which Stinger, Kanunu, and Torpedo Lass take on a gang of crusty sea-dogs sporting some totally wizzer cyberware.
  10. It was more Leilani's concern than any of her mentors that had her hiding in the building where any accident would be kept to a minimum but eventually 'stir-crazy' won out over 'paranoid that she might set all the things on fire' as far as emotional motivation. She'd never been one to lounge about indoors when the ocean beckoned and at least surrounded by water, any agitation would probably only flash fry a few fish. At least, that was the hope that had her setting out for the water's edge. Leilani didn't think that surfing through the sky would ever get old but it wasn't the same as the ocean. She was more than a little noticeable riding the flames that she generated towards the waterfront. Landing was still just a little dicy so she over shot the piers deliberately for the deeper waters where she'd hopefully not cannonball into any errant swimmers. It seemed unlikely. Even during the summer, the Atlantic was a much less friendly creature than her beloved bay. Spitting out sea water, she came up laughing as the water dissipated the residual heat quickly. Eventually she was really going to have to learn how to land.
  11. GM Post: Somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean - 06:44 GMT The First Mate stood at attention as the Captain clanked into the submarine's bridge. Even among the general augmentations of the crew, the Captain's bulky, cyborg frame was difficult to mistake as he loomed over the small, cramped bridge space. "First Mate! Any sign of our government friends?" "Absolutely none, sir. The patrol vessels lost sight of us not long after submerging. Those agents almost gave us some trouble back there, but we haven't yet met a crew that can handle the Dragon." The First Mate smiled. The Captain laughed and put his arm around the First Mate's shoulder. "Aye, she's a fine vessel. And what's more a fine crew. But things have been getting a little too close for me as of late. The ships of the Atlantic know our name, and have started preparing when we come. I think it's time we returned home and picked up a litte upgrade..." As he said this, the captain dialed the ship's map towards the east coast of the United States. The First Mate gave him a puzzled look. "Freedom City, sir? The Dragon's a fearsome ship, but do you think we're ready to hit a city full of supers?" The captain smiled as he looked at the map. "If all goes as planned, my friend, I don't think we'll have to..." **************** Freedom City, NJ North Bay Beach - 15:01 GMT It was a lovely adn, more important to the citizens of Freedom City, uneventful summer day. The heat of the summer brought locals and tourists alike to the beachside for some time in the water. As the sun hit midday, the beach filled with families and friends spreading out towels for picnics, swimming, and general dilly-dallying on the beach, as restaurants accross the street filled up with those wanting to enjoy their afternoon indoors. And among this throng of people, we see our heroes...
  12. News thread for Kanunu. 20 Questions 'The Questionnaire!'
  13. Kanunu Power Level: 12/14 (200/216PP) Unspent Power Points: 16PP Trade-Offs: -3 Attack / +3 Damage, -3 Defense / +3 Toughness In Brief: Jovial Hawaiian powerhouse and hydrokinetic mutant balancing work, college, and super heroics in Freedom City. Catchphrase: Theme: Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride Alternate Identity: Kimo Keli'i (Poorly kept Secret) Birthplace: Hilo, Hawaii Residence: Emerald City, University Hill Base of Operations: Emerald City, Riverside, University Hill, Oceanside Occupation: Grad Student ECU Affiliations: Emerald City University Family: Locally only his auntie Leilani, in Hilo on the other hand they are legion Description: Age: 19 (DoB: 1996) Apparent Age: 19 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Pacific Islander (Hawaiian) Height: 6' 4" Weight: 270 lbs Eyes: Dark Brown Hair: Black Kimo is a tall youth broad shouldered and heavily muscled. His skin is a deep burnished sepia, darkened from long hours in the tropical sun. His heavy jaw and broad nose lead up to a high forehead and frame his dark eyes twinkling with humor at some unspoken joke. His head is topped by a long mass of tousled raven curls that drape nearly to his waist falling in messy ringlets occasionally tied back in a vain effort to tame the locks. A days worth of stubble graces his jaw more often than not his polynesian heritage earning him an incomplete escape from regular shaving. In nearly any weather he wears a simple t-shirt or tank top with a logo of a favorite band or surfwear company, or none at all on beach days, over board or cargo shorts and flip flops or bare feet. When pressed to more dressy occasions he'll settle on knee length linen khaki shorts and a traditional aloha shirt and flip flops in better repair or perhaps leather sandals, traditional shoes are not negotiable. In costume his look varies little, black morphic molecule jammers replace his usual shorts and he goes shirtless with hair tied back loosely by a leather thong. Time allowing he makes a nod to 'costume' and adds a traditional Samoan ie lavalava tied about his waist in a rippling black and sky blue pattern. While nominally keeping his identity secret he doesn't bother with a mask relying mostly on the startling difficulty many non-islanders have telling one islander from another. History: Kimo was born the fourth of seven children amid a community that often seemed more family than not. This lent itself to a very wide net of 'family' for the young man as he was never far from someone he was at least tangentially related to it seemed. He lived a fairly normal if not luxurious life with lessons in song, dance, and instruments rounding out his traditional schooling and all the spare time he could muster spent at the beach or on the waves. With an active lifestyle and healthy genetics he grew into a strapping youth and spent all his free time swimming and surfing the beaches around his home town. He was 16 when things took a turn for the strange, surfing a particularly harsh set he got pulled under in the crush slammed into the coral below the break. Strictly amateur hour stuff while trying to showboat for some tourist girls. He should have been smashed up, possibly drowned by the force of the wave and the bad break he took. But he was unharmed and in fact felt better than ever. When he made it in to shore the crowd was amazed, when his baord washed up moments later, or what was left of it, everyone was sure it was some kind of miracle. And they were not entirely wrong. The Trauma had triggered a latent mutation rendering him nearly invulnerable and with the strength of ten men, maybe more. He knew something must have happened he remembered hitting the coral reef, the dull thud as he was dashed against the rocks, the rasping scratch as the coral scraped across his suddenly invulnerable flesh. He also was not so certain he could tell anyone and kept it secret for some time. Within a month he realized his powers were only growing, and expanding. He could command the waters of hte sea to do his bidding and his strength only grew. After he discovered his powers he took a short lived and rather embarrassing turn as a teen hero on the streets of Hilo. Calling himself Kanaloa after one of the chief Native Hawaiian deities he took to the streets to rid his neighborhood of pushers and meth heads. It did not go well. Even his command of hte waters was to little avail when a poorly planned attack on a local Meth lab ended in half the apartment complex it was housed in burning down. His absurd misuse of traditional iconography didn't help matters when his grandma caught him sneaking in that night. His career as Kanaloa was over before it really began, and he spent every spare moment for the next two years either in lessons on the Islands proud history and mythology or working to pay back his family who had stepped in to help those displaced by his mistake. While it never became common knowledge who was behind the disasterous amatuer appropriation of godhead, Kimo was done. After graduating high school Kimo set his eyes on Freedom city, for surely in the City of Heroes he could find his way to do more with his powers. He enrolled at Freedom College and moved into the dorms. He's been there almost a year and a half now and is starting to explore his potential as a hero under the less appropriative name, Kanunu, "The Strong." He knows he has alot to learn but if there is anywhere he can learn it's Freedom. Update 8/2019: After Graduating from FCU with his bachelors in Marine Biology Kimo has been accepted to the prestigious program at Emerald City University. He's pursuing his masters there currently and returning to his beloved pacific. WHat time he doesn't spend in school is usually spent pursuing the best breakers Oceanside has to offer or taking a trip down the coast. He relishes the relative quiet of Emerald City but finds the stark class divisions difficult to fathom. Personality & Motivation: Kimo takes the general 'Time is different on the Islands' attitude to heart. He's slow to anger and easy going in demeanor which can come off at times as if he doesn't take things seriously though he does, he just prefers not to act rashly. When he does move to act he can be implacable however and his fury when pushed is potent and relentless. Kanunu is new to him, he came to study in Freedom at least in part out of the hopes of turning his powers into something more. However in this city festooned with the monuments to the greatest heroes he can't help but feel somewhat inadequate. He has potential but lacks confidence in his abilities and in what he's doing, he's young and inexperienced and very concerned about doing more harm than good. With some experience and a healthy dose of self confidence though he could do great things. Powers & Tactics: Kanunu is a fairly straightforward fighter and while not devoid of tactics he takes a firm, 'If it ain't broke don't fix it.' approach to tactics. His mutations had granted him both great strength and left him nearly invulnerable to anything short anti vehicular weaponry. Wading into battle he'll focus first on dispatching underlings, a task he's very well suited to, before moving on to bring the battle to more worthy foes. With access to a suitable water source he can utilize his hydrokinetic potential to unleash the power of the waves on his foes allowing him greater command of the battlefield though aqueous manipulations. Shaping and wielding water to provide cover or hamper foes as well as take more direct action with powerful jets and waves or mighty tendrils to grasp foes or extract and protect innocents. When immersed in a body of water Kanunu becomes a truly mighty foe of evil. As comfortable in the waves as ashore and adapted to freezing crushing depths and able to hold his breath 'hella long' he gains benefits well beyond the able liquid to turn against foes. Commanding waves and tidal surges to grant allies mobility and turning his hydrokinetic might on foes with ease he is a force to be reckoned with. Power Descriptions: Kimos core mutations are supernatural strength and durability that have no outward signs beyond his admittedly impressive physique. Even his aquatic adaptations have more to do with endurance and familiarity than obviously mutant origins. Hydrokinetics of course are far more obvious. Kanunu commands the waves through gesture the larger the effect the more full body the movement, a simple stomp may send choppy ripples or slick waters flowing to impede his foes while a full bodied sawy and thrust of his arms may send waves crashing or an extended arm to reach out and grasp a foe with bonds of watery doom. The most advanced explorations of his powers are more akin to dance than battle in appearance as he draws from his heritage as influence over his command of the seas. When calling forth a wave to ride on dry land he's able to pull the water from the air or a nearby water source as needed to build a cresting wave he and allies can ride, if they're willing to get a little wet. Complications: Ohana: The concept of Family is of great import to Kimo. You take care of family and they take care of you, more than that though family goes beyond the bonds of blood. Those who earn a place in his heart have a steadfast friend and supporter. Kuleana: Kimo knows his start as a hero was poor, he feels a deep need to do better this time around. Ha'Aha'A: Kimo has alot of doubts that he can live up to the big city heroes of Freedom, he has alot to prove to himself as well as the world. Moana: Kimo's hydrokinetics require water to work with and while his big wave flight ability doesn't require a water source pulling moisture from the air when needed it does need some moisture. In air too dry without an alternate source he'll be grounded. Ha: Kimo is not truly amphibious. He doesn't have gills or anything and needs to breath oxygen to survive. His mutations do however allow him to hold his breath 'Hella long' represented by his full immunity to suffocation, there isn't a set time limit but he can run out of air.
