  1. GM September 5th, 2019 7:30 PM Riverside Park Riverside parks was silent in the growing darkness. The weather was nice and warm, the last of the rapidly fading summer quickly casting its light on Riverside Park. Despite the presence of the Sentry statue, the park was quiet and relatively empty for the time of year and day. Even now, with the hour growing late, there would usually be plenty of tourists and Freedom City natives alike in the park. Jessica Witchblood had heard rumors. There were reasons the park was empty. Something feeding on something in the park. It had happened slowly, and it would probably attract greater attention soon, but maybe there was something interesting there for her to do or see first? Of course, there was something else to get her attention first, wasn't there? A red haired young man clad in jeans and a green hoodie hovering before the face of the Sentry statue, arms crossed in front of his chest, one hand cupping his chin. Golden dust seemed to fall from him. He seemed deep in thought, like he was studying the statue intensely.
  2. So much time had passed, Jessica hadn't even noticed. She and Jack met last year and, despite that one little 'disappearance', they'd been at each other's side ever since. At first as friends, but they grew closer and closer. A fun romp of two people who generally enjoyed each other's attention and company. After Jack's graduation, Jessica snagged him as a roommate. Not that he had anywhere to go, but not that she would let him go. She just loved having Jack around. And awake. Like he was just doing now. "Afternoon, sleepyhead," she said, kissing him on the cheek as he groaned into the land of the living. They took up most of the couch as she slept on top of him.
  3. ooc for this. @Nightshade
  4. Hot summers didn't bother Jessica that much. Her demonic blood gave her a nice warm feeling all year long. Still, she did enjoy a nice cool treat sometimes... OK, all of the times. She had needs! Sometimes those needs were just really Envy and Greed spirits working on her. Still, the ubiquitous Starbase was in her sights. And she needed cold coffee treats. One thing about summer that she did enjoy is that people got expressive with dressing down. Especially in Freedom City. People of all sorts flooded the boardwalk. Herself being a red demon woman, she got looks. Good and bad. Luckily no one was silly enough to do anything stupid. Good or bad. Speaking of sights to behold, it was... an angel? Minding his own business, mind you. Though those things were rare she was told. Demons were much more apt to come and stay here. Though what did the black wings mean? Her curiosity trumped her Envy and Greed spirits for the moment. Like a moth to a flame she slowly approached.
  5. West Gables Housing Unit, Pi Epsilon Delta Sorority. Saturday, August 17th, 2019. 8:04 am Despite it's reputation as a 'serious' sorority, PED was still part of Greek life, which meant the occasional party. And sometimes, these parties involved alcohol. Rather a lot of it, really. Everyone on the unit knew Casey Blankenship was hopelessly square, and they kind of loved her for it. Sure, she'd drink the occasional beer, but it never seemed to get her the slightest bit tipsy. But everyone also knew she never hogged the bathroom, always made a fresh pot of coffee in the morning, and would be the first girl to hold back your hair if you had to puke. And she was forgiving, endlessly forgiving. It was like a superpower. This Saturday morning after a major basketball victory, the blonde heroine tiptoed out of her room in her bathrobe, shower bag over one arm, quiet as a ninja out of respect to her hungover sisters. She was just passing the doorway to the common room when she heard unfamiliar snoring on one of the couches, and Casey knew how all her sisters sounded in their sleep. Her interest piqued, she floated into the room, quiet as a church mouse, her sandaled feet less than an inch above the floor. Peering through her glasses, her hair pulled up into a topknot on top of her head, she leaned down to whisper. "Hello?"
  6. Freedom City, Earth Prime Silently above the streets of Freedom City flew the vessel, an amazing vessel of bronze and copper that looked like a broad flat sailing vessel. Even within the crowded airspace above the city, it drew some attention from those below, few vehicles like this flew in its skies. From beneath the vessel shot out a bright light that scanned the ground beneath it, going from person to person the light being more than just a simple spotlight it was searching for someone very special, special even in a city like this one. The crew of this craft was searching for a very specific half-blood, whos very existence could maybe save an entire civilization from disaster!
  7. Christmas was a touchy time for Jessica. Sure, Freedom City loved their heroes. But those of her type were not seen as heroes at first glance. And especially since the holidays had been co-opted by Christianity. Well, Jessica didn't invited to go caroling. At all. Still, she had a lot to keep her busy. Gift giving was irreligious. Her magic lessons with Jack were the highlights of her days some times. Jack was the highlight of her days most of the time. She had already went shopping with him earlier, but this time she wanted to get a special something. She poked through her contacts to see where she could get to the weirder side of Freedom. She knew his style of magic was different than hers, but he barely knew about his. So she taught him hers. Quite fun. What she found was Silberman's Books. A bookstore, naturally, but something of a seller of magical things to the mundane. Magic For Dummies. How To Summon Confidence. Annotated Necronomicon. It all looked like a cash grab. But her sources knew better. She was here for something more advanced. And real. Arcane musings aside, Jessica's carnal spirits knew that there was something there that she needed. Most of demonblooded didn't take stock in writing, but a treatise was written a few hundred years ago. Only seven copies remained of it. And it was in reach. So much for buying the SO a gift. She was sure something would pop up.
  8. Jessica was still growing into this monogamous relationship with Jack, but she felt content with him. And that was enough to keep her eyes on her pride and joy. Waking up next to him made her happy. It didn't feel like almost two months had passed (59 days but who was counting? Her, that's who). He had school, but they shared time together in his off time. Last night was one of those nights, and today was one of those days, It was the weekend and they had actual plans. Shopping. For Christmas? Maybe, but definitely for each other. She had to contain the carnal spirit of Greed. Having a shower before he had even woke up, she stood stood over his sleeping form. She knew how he slept. Kissing him on the cheek before whispering in his ear, "time to wake the dead," she chided him playfully.
  9. GM October 31st, 2018, 7:30 PM The Boardwalk, Freedom City On the outside, the Boardwalk was much the same as usual, despite the day. Aside from a few pumpkins, ghosts and skeletons, the fronts of the casinos showed little of the holiday. Inside, it might be different. Posters around the Boardwalk told of special Halloween events. Escape rooms themed from horror movies. Horror movie marathons in cinemas housed inside the casinos themselves. Ghoulish deals and unholy bargains. All in the name of business. No trick or treaters appeared on the Boardwalk on this evening, aside from the few that were simply passing through. A man clad in a tuxedo stumbled through the streets. His clothes were an ill fit, probably a rental. He carried a bowler hat in his white glowed hands, occassionally grabing a napkin in his pocket to wipe the sweat from his brow. His once black hair was greying at the temples, and obviously thinning. His small black moustache was immaculate, and his pride and joy. He stumbled from passerby to passerby, quickly asking if they had seen a young woman with red skin that had left his act. He needed to find his assistant. And so, he finally saw a young woman with red skin, but perhaps not the one that he sought.
  10. West End, Freedom City, New Jersey Saturday February 10, 2018 9:34 PM Mali Benjawan was standing on the rooftop of a four story building in West End dressed in the costume she wore as Crimson Tiger. Over the past couple of days Mali had been investigating the disappearance of several young people in some of the lower income parts of Freedom City. Her investigation so far (read: some roughed up criminal informants) had led her to believe that these disappearances where the work of the Dark Fist, a street gang connected with the On At-Zhang, a Triad that operated in parts of the West End. While Mali would normally not be overly afraid of pursuing things further on her own, as luck would have it her friend and former classmate at Claremont, Giang Trang, had reached out about wanting to help Mali with anything she might be working on. Giang had explained she was helping a current Claremont student with some things and wanted to get her a bit of crime fighting experience as part of the process. So the two had arranged to meet here. Mali had arrived a bit early, to watch over the location that her sources had indicated was a hideout for the Dark Fist. It was an old warehouse on the West End’s boarder with Grenville For the most part the warehouse was dark and appeared abandoned, but from her vantage point, Mali could see that the section toward the back had lights on, and there were lots of motorcycles parked out near the back entrance and occasionally people coming and going out there. A few blocks away Jessica Witchblood was on a Freedom City Transit bus, on her way toward the southeastern edge of the West End. The young woman had been looking into the disappearance of Hannah Ryan, a girl that was a peripheral member of the group of friends who worked in the clubs that Jessica was part of. Despite warnings from Jessica and some of her other friends, Hannah had gotten at least partially involved in some of the more dangerous criminal elements of Freedom City. And now no one had seen Hannah in a couple of days. Not convinced the police would put this as a high enough priority, Jessica had started looking into it herself. So far the best lead she had was that it might somehow be connected to a street gang known as the Dark Fist. So, now she was on a bus headed toward a place the gang was known to hang out at. The next stop would get her a few blocks from the address.
  11. After Jessica and Jack, they kept in touch for a short while. Hanging out, doing stuff. He had responsibilities as well as she did. Jess did poke him for a while on his phone and other social media places, but he seemed to drop off the face of the Earth. Not the first time a friend ever did that to her. So she went on, the bear hero stuck in the back of her mind. And then? Well, he just showed up in her area. He was eating a burger outside of the place they met. She did pinch herself to see if the carnal spirits were playing with her. But no, he was real. The sky was orange as the sunset on the bay. Which kind of gave her the advantage of sneaking up on him. Maybe he was here for something? She didn't care. She just wanted to know a few things. He felt a light touch on the back of his neck. "Burger, eh," she asked walking in front of him. Crossing her arms, she looked up. Dressed in tight jeans, and a red bikini top covered by a black mesh shirt. "I would have never guessed," she smirked, "where's mine?"
  12. GM One of the Week Days? Maybe? Probably March 4th 2018? Evening? Definitely Jessica Witchblood's apartment The first thing that happened was the knock at the door. It was firm, insistent, and worst of all woke Jessica up out of an extremely pleasant dream. One involving a beach, a soft-eyed lover and one of her old teachers burning on a stake for all to see. "Are you there, Ms. Witchblood?" A muffled voice hollered through the door "It's me, your demon! I'm...well I'm here for the orientation!" This week had been one of the worst in Jessica's entire life. If she tried to focus on any one of the miserable things that had been going on, it caused her a severe migraine and summoned several other phantoms for the problems stacked on top of them. Which started hitting her head with large iron mallets. That might have been the ill-fated all-nighter coming back to haunt her. Greek wine was sweet, delicious, deadly. Sweet, like the lips of- The voice burst in again "Um....is this the right place? Should I come back? I need to see a Ms. Witchblood right away! Otherwise they'll throw me in the lake of fire! Again!"
  13. Feb 3rd 2017, Early Morning On the outskirts of Freedom City... Where does a city end? It was hard to tell. But wherever it was, Morgan's Meats was right on the edge. That hazy place where the city drifts into the country, to the south east. It had a kind of sleepy air to it. Nothing much happened. Usually nothing much happened. But when it did happen, like today, it really happened. In a beat up old car, smoking cheap cigarettes, Vic Vazquez waited. She was a tallish woman, dressed in unassuming clothes, running hear and a baseball cap. She had olive skin and dark hair, and had that air of South America about her. If one looked at her closely, one could tell she spent long hours at the gym, giving her a muscular or even squat appearance. Vic was watching Morgan's Meats intently, behind dark sunglasses. And taking pictures with her camera. And waiting for Jessica Witchblood to arrive. She had judged the fledging demon best person to call. Hell, the police wouldn't believe her. And if they did, they wouldn't be of any help. Vic worked for Arcanus Arcanum magazine, dedicated to exposing and explaining eldritch forces. It was sometimes right on points of history and occultism, but rarely if ever right on points of real magic. Although Vic was the exception. She knew a thing or two...

  15. GM April 1st, 2018, 12.01 AM In the ruins of Tharask, Lemurian City of Hope, the Night Sea of Sub-Terra Tharask had been empty for centuries long before the Great Cataclysm destroyed Lemuria and her human twin. But in its highest tower, in the heart of the Drowned Citadel, the voices of serpents resounded. The robes glimmered in the emerald light of the torches, a light reflected dully in the golden eyes of the procession being described around the bloodied circle. Thin, hissing voices rose and fell in song as scaled arms tipped by claws brandished wreathes of bone and weapons of obsidian glass. As the serpent people sang, the light of the torches changed, first to a healthy, ruddy orange, then deeper and deeper into a sickly, nauseating red. The golden eyes were eclipsed as slitted pupils expanded to draw in more light, the sibilant voices grew louder and faster, a savage tempo building as the eldritch forces at work began to work their will on the world. Suddenly, with a blinding flash and a peal like thunder, the thin fabric of the world was torn away, flinging a being from another world into the circle! <"It works, it works!"> they cried jubilantly, dancing with glee as their leader, resplendent in a crown and robes adorned with sea dragon fangs, swept into view of the new arrival. He pointed a staff topped with a gilded skull at them. <"Demon of the void,"> he began, before pausing, eyes squinting dubiously. Something was...strange about this demon. They were more human-looking than most, for starters. <"What infernal realm do you hail from, creature? As thine summoner, I do command thee to answer, and answer only with the truth as it pertains to the spirit of my question!"> -------------------------------------------------------------------- Aquaria had made a stunning discovery during the transfer of Deep One relics to the Freedom City museum. A stone tablet imbued with protective power held an intricate map carved long before the stone was enchanted. It showed the way to an ancient city built as a refuge by the Serpents in the early days of their forgotten empire. Tharask had been a glimmering pearlescent jewel in the crown of the Serpent Empire, a place where song and art were the greatest skills that could be cultivated, shimmering spires reached to the cavern roof and its artificial Sun shone day and night, spreading heat and life eternal. Then the War had swept into Sub-Terra and by Atlantean magic the false Sun seared the city until was bleached bone white, all life burned from its streets and towers. The walls of the cavern had broken, letting in the surrounding underworld sea to cover everything in icy darkness. But the wonders remained and the legends grew. More importantly Tharask was directly(relatively, Sub-Terra made such things hard to pin down) beneath the waters of the Great Bay. So here she was, floating in a giant flooded cave surrounded by the spear-head tips of pallid, crumbling buildings that smelled like death. With the unmistakable lights and sounds of a Serpent ritual drawing her closer to reptilian shadows and hissing voices.

  17. GM 26 February, 2018. 815 PM. In front of Beaudrie Opera House. Ray and Rachael Trask, better known as Rant and Rave to the Freedom City superhero community, had not been seen for years. In fact, some whispered that they had met their fate by messing with the wrong type of 'hero'. Others say they buggered off to Oregon to mess with Emerald City or join a cult or whatever the clickbait sites could make you click on. But here they were. In Freedom, still looking young as their first heist. What were the two up to? Well, unlike their old days, which mainly involved knocking off banks and selling whatever could get them money, they seemingly had transitioned to wanton destruction. The Trask siblings were seeing how many 'points they could score by tearing down the scenery. Holding each other's hand, they blasted everything, followed by a yell of how many points it got them. The people in the direct vicinity were terrified.
  18. So, what's wrong with this picture? @TheAbsurdist, can I have a tag?
  19. February 1st, 2018 Ying and Yang Convienience Store, Lincoln GM: As was her schedule, Zhu often found herself back in her parents store on many evenings. Just because she was at school didn't mean that she didn't realize how much help her parents needed. Considering all they had given up to move here, a few hours during the week was the least she could do. At least tonight there wasn't much in the way of customers, being a Thursday evening. She'd be able to close things down soon after cleaning everything up and mopping the floors. The Yin and Yang carried a variety of sundries for the residents of the poor, but not criminally ridden neighborhood. So most of the customers were both regulars and local. Still, they did carry a variety of medicinal herbs that her parents either grew themselves in a small greenhouse, or somehow imported from China. When people came from elsewhere in the city, that's usually why they came. Frankly, Zhu figured that they could likely just run the store on those, considering what people were willing to pay for some of the more rare plants. While it wasn't really her call, her parents did welcome any advice from their gifted daughter. Which considering she had placed a fully automated restocking robot in place was probably for the best. She'd check the programming on the machine again tonight before heading out to let it do it's work. However, for now she had more important things to do as she was busy texting Lexa even though her phone was sitting five feet away on the counter. 'Nothing's going on. It's pretty dull here. What did you think about Eric in Powers and Responsibilities? I think he's pretty good looking, but what a temper' the text scrolled seemingly on it's own as she controlled it with her mind.

  21. The boardwalks own 'Original BurgerShack!' was not as busy as during the summer months certainly but the steady flow of locals looking for what was widely regarded as the best burger and shake this side of the south river earned it the rare honor of being open on the chill winter afternoon. A small number of workers from the nearby indoor attractions and a few die hards getting their burger on were spread out in the ample outdoor seating around the burger shaped hut that housed the BurgerShack! itself. The line wasn't long and moving quick despite the late lunch rush so it was an inviting enough option for the rare passerby. A half dozen construction workers waited patiently off to the side for their orders to be completed and on the edge of the seating area a group of local teens roughhoused boisterously as they clustered around a table just slightly too small for their group to eat the bags of food they'd just recieved.
  22. GM January 1'st, 2018, 6.43PM Cold as hell and with freezing winds blowing in off the Atlantic Liberty Park, Freedom City "Well, he's not in the north woods. He's probably dead, let's go home." Trudy shoved the scarf back up over her mouth, looking longingly at the apartment block rising up to the east. Beside the frozen Heroes Knoll reservoir, overlooking the tall and brassy statues celebrating the fallen crimefighters of Freedom City's past, it was hard not to sympathize. There was no protection from the wind and the temperature would have been below zero anyway. It was increasingly unlikely Mr. Meowmers would have gotten this far. The other five in the party muttered agreement, though Marsha did give the instigator of their four-hour long search a gentle side-hug. But Serena, red-eyed and bundled up like a bison, was made of more obstinate stuff. "H-h-he's j-j-jussst cur-r-rled up-p s-s-s-'mwere. Got-t-a k-keep looking!" She looked up at Jessica in mute appeal. A fresh, savage punch of wind hissed and rattled among the trees, splashing icily against the search party.

  24. Jessica Witchblood Power Level: 10 (150/165PP) Unspent Power Points: 15 Trade-Offs: None. In Brief: Witchblood family line continues Catchphrase: "What a lovely predicament." Theme: "Devil Woman" by Cliff Richard Alternate Identity: None. Birthplace: Woodland, New Jersey Residence: Freedom City, New Jersey Base of Operations: None. Occupation: Dancer Affiliations: None. Family: Kara Witchblood (the Witchbloods carry their name to the grave with pride), mother. Jason Kelly, father. Description Age: 21 (born February 1997) Apparent Age: 18 (this is when she stopped aging) Gender: Female Ethnicity: Demon Height: 1.78m Weight: 64kg Eyes: Green Hair: Red Jessica is a tall, averaged sized woman with nice curves and ample features. Her skin is an attractive shade of rose red. Her lips are full, she colors them black else they blend in with her skin. Her hair is long and wavy. While not the exact shade of her skin, it's close enough. Her green eyes stand out in the sea of red, their sharp contrast draws attention. She wears jeans and tanks and sandals. History The Witchblood lineage stretches all the way back to the old old world, pre writing/post cavemen. Both the women and men cavorted with the demons to assure their lineage would be the the strongest. Eventually, their corrupt ways caught up with them and they were enslaved human servitors of the demons. Skip a few millennia and a great hero named Witch, somehow severed the link between the demons and the lineage. In gratitude the Witchbloods took the hero's name. Skip a few more millenia, the family still bears the mark of the demon. Though they still practice strong magic, it was tempered by Witch's guidance. No more sacrificing or blood spilled. They invoke carnal (wrath, lust, pride, et cetera) spirits to give them power. Jessica was, well, not normal. Her red skin made sure of that. That said, she wasn't spurmed. She made friends with all except the most hardened of opinionated people. She loved to create and show off. Perhaps a little too much, but her eagerness to be seen and heard segued into learning the family style of magic easily. Growing up with magic was fun, she liked to open with it when she met someone. "Oh hi, I'm Jessica, did you know that magic exists? Watch this!" The tricks weren't scary or harmful, but they were very expressive. Nonetheless, the ones that it didn't scare off, had each other's attention. During high school, she was somewhat popular and kind of a celebrity for that matter. But afterward, everyone went their separate ways. Then she started thinking about college. There was no way she could pay for it. without being in debt for the rest of her life, she found out quickly. Demons may be one thing, but debt collectors were the absolute worst. So she's taking the road most traveled for people with powers, she's doing hero work. Not that she doesn't want to do it! Helping others is always the right thing to do. But in the back of her mind, she always sees her fate - given to a Witchblood as they are born, they instinctively know it will happen, just not when - of dying, pinned down on a black altar. Personality & Motivation Jessica is adamantly always some kind of cheerful. Not springy or bouncy, but always talkative and in a good mood. The only time that she's quiet is when she's plotting or actually scared. You can most likely tell the difference in the two. Het heroism doesn't have a motivation. She just enjoys doing it. It could be attributed to thrillseeking. But she likes to think doing good is it's own reward. Powers & Tactics Jessica wields ancient demon magic in her blood. Though it's been changed over the millennia, it still has roots in corruption. Even the hero who taught them the less corrupt way only lessened their power. She has to move or say something to cast a spell, invoking one of the carnal spirits. Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth, or Wrath. The spirit tailors the spell to their liking, giving the recipient something to remember them by. Though if the spell is resisted, Jessica might take a little bit of the spirit's comeuppance. Her demonic physiology also gives her a near limitless lifespan (until she dies), and the ability to suffer fire and human frailties. She'll always start with a long range spell, keeping her distance. She's not a toe to toe fighter, if pressed, she'll chat up the villain to talk them down or just to throw them off their guard to get to a safe distance to keep away. Complications Contemptible Spirits: If Jessica fails to affect someone with a Sin descriptor, the carnal spirit she invoked will backlash somehow. Dark Fate: Jessica will die pinned to a dark altar. She knows not when, just that it will. Demonic Mark: Jessica's skin is red, the curse given to her lineage millenniums ago. She stands out in a crowd, and tends to get trouble from people who don't like demons. Holy Ground: Her powers take a hit there. Not that she'd ever knowingly go to such a place, due to her fate. Re: Your Soul: Powers with the sin descriptor do not affect beings without souls. Those with inhuman souls may lessen the effect. Show Off: Jessica loves to make herself known. The Sin In My Veins: Jessica's corrupted blood can be used for rituals. She shares for a price and a reason. Though there are sorts who would take it forcefully.
