  1. So much time had passed, Jessica hadn't even noticed. She and Jack met last year and, despite that one little 'disappearance', they'd been at each other's side ever since. At first as friends, but they grew closer and closer. A fun romp of two people who generally enjoyed each other's attention and company. After Jack's graduation, Jessica snagged him as a roommate. Not that he had anywhere to go, but not that she would let him go. She just loved having Jack around. And awake. Like he was just doing now. "Afternoon, sleepyhead," she said, kissing him on the cheek as he groaned into the land of the living. They took up most of the couch as she slept on top of him.
  2. December 20 2018 Claremont Academy It was December 20 and Watchdog was distracted. Ashley was thinking of the game schedule for the coming week and which ones she'd be able to check out from her favorite DC bars, and of seeing her mom and her actual sisters again (not that she didn't care for her charge, poor kid, but she wasn't actually her sister) - and also the common room was overrun with preteens with superpowers. It was the sort of situation to put any bodyguard on edge. It didn't help that Judy turned out to be great with little kids, having admitted privately to her sister that she'd always wished that she'd had more younger siblings. The youngest group of Nicholson students, a half-dozen or so kindergarten age kids, had been following her around all day, in the company of their teacher, a thick-glassed and big-haired young woman named Jessie Lupine who practically smelled of granola. Ms. Lupine had been content to let Judy stay close to her charges, though she was patiently watching as Judy led the kids in another round of Itsy-Bitsy-Spider. All around the common room, Nicholson kids were hanging out with Claremont students, the oldest of the latter on the anxious edge of teen, the youngest rambunctious gradeschool kids running around and giggling with the energy of small children when it was late at night. There were adults here too, Nicholson teachers watching their students, Claremont teachers watching both, but for the most part it was "Christmas Big Sibling Camp!" all the way. She caught sight of the Blue Team; a girl in a Disney dress chatting with Pan, a boy with electricity sparking in his eyes sitting next to Adam on the couch, a scaly child of indeterminate gender in Leroy's company, and a girl in forest brown discoursing with Arctos in Russian by the sleeping bags. That was the other great thing about tonight - the last night before Watchdog and Pulse went off for "special training". It was a sleepover. So freaking great.
  3. Jessica was still growing into this monogamous relationship with Jack, but she felt content with him. And that was enough to keep her eyes on her pride and joy. Waking up next to him made her happy. It didn't feel like almost two months had passed (59 days but who was counting? Her, that's who). He had school, but they shared time together in his off time. Last night was one of those nights, and today was one of those days, It was the weekend and they had actual plans. Shopping. For Christmas? Maybe, but definitely for each other. She had to contain the carnal spirit of Greed. Having a shower before he had even woke up, she stood stood over his sleeping form. She knew how he slept. Kissing him on the cheek before whispering in his ear, "time to wake the dead," she chided him playfully.
  4. October 2018 Claremont Academy Library Down in the third floor basement stacks, Judy Smith shone her flashlight around. "Wow, they really do have a lot of issues of American Heritage here," she said, not sounding terribly enthused upon finding row after row of the old magazines on their metal shelves. "But Ah guess Ah found the December 1957 issue, so that's one more!" She looked to her team and checked off another on their list of 'Scavenger Hunt in the Lights-Out Library!' "At least turning off the lights made it interesting," she commented to her team. "Oh yeah it's real interesting," hissed Ashley Smith, who seemed far less enthusiastic than her sister about the whole thing. She had on her gear for the night-time op; head obscured and voice partially muffled by her Watchdog helmet, her guns concealed beneath her leather jacket and body armor. "Night time in an empty building, where anything could be lurking behind anything!" She was only half in-character here. She'd spent a lot of hours in the Claremont library and had learned that it was full of all sorts of awful stuff. At least they probably weren't going to see that damned ghost this time. "What's next?" Judy asked the others.
  5. After Jessica and Jack, they kept in touch for a short while. Hanging out, doing stuff. He had responsibilities as well as she did. Jess did poke him for a while on his phone and other social media places, but he seemed to drop off the face of the Earth. Not the first time a friend ever did that to her. So she went on, the bear hero stuck in the back of her mind. And then? Well, he just showed up in her area. He was eating a burger outside of the place they met. She did pinch herself to see if the carnal spirits were playing with her. But no, he was real. The sky was orange as the sunset on the bay. Which kind of gave her the advantage of sneaking up on him. Maybe he was here for something? She didn't care. She just wanted to know a few things. He felt a light touch on the back of his neck. "Burger, eh," she asked walking in front of him. Crossing her arms, she looked up. Dressed in tight jeans, and a red bikini top covered by a black mesh shirt. "I would have never guessed," she smirked, "where's mine?"
  6. February 2018 St. Gregory's The area around St. Gregory's Church was the home of one of the larger Russian emigre communities in Freedom City, a legacy of the city's long history of accommodating immigrants from all over the planet - and beyond. The owner and manager of A Taste of Irkutsk, the closest thing you could get to authentic Siberian cuisine in this part of New Jersey, was a fairly recent arrival in Freedom City, with ample friends and family back in the old country. So when the most famous Russian super-agent in the United States called him and reserved a table, he'd been happy to provide whatever he needed - including a restaurant that was mostly empty despite this being the dinner hour. Sitting patiently at a table for two, Comrade Frost waited for the arrival of his guest. The message had come to the Davydov residence - not Claremont Academy. Comrade Frost, the longest-active member of the People's Heroes, had invited Vanya out for an evening of "delicious Siberian fare for the appetite of a young bear!" (the exclamation point had been in the original) - a pointed invitation that was difficult to refuse. Vanya had grown up on stories of the People's Heroes and how they'd defended the motherland from the Germans during the Great Patriotic War; Vanya's father had grown up on stories of the People's Heroes and how they kept the Soviet Union safe from the forces of capitalism. Who could turn one down? "Don't let him frighten you," Ivan had assured Vanya. "This is not 1975 and this is America, not Russia. Everything will be fine." Still, Ivan had opted to come to the restaurant with his son, promising to stay "out of the way and let you do the talking, since you are a big man now." The restaurant certainly smelled familiar as they got off the bus together, the scents of home easily detectable even on the street. Was that pelmini in there?
  7. Vanya "Jack” Davydov Power Level: 10 (150/150PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: NONE In Brief: Jack is an extremely laid back guy with a love for nature and protecting others. Due to the Animal spirit bonded to him, Jack has become a Shaman, capable of changing into a Polar Bear Hybrid. Alternate Identity: Arctos Birthplace: St. Petersburg, Russia Residence: Clairemont Academy Occupation: Student/Hero Family: Ivan Davydov (Father), Rada Davydov (Mother) Description: Age: 17 (DoB: September 9, 2001) Apparent Age: 21 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Russian, Siberian Ket Height: 6’6” (11' standing 5' all fours AF) Weight: 300 lbs (1,500 lbs AF) Eyes: Blue Hair: White Jack is a giant among teens, and even among adults. He sometimes gets mistaken for an adult at first glance. Jack has strong Siberian Ket features, softened only slightly by his Russian heritage. He has tan skin and white hair. He is extremely well built, and anyone who saw him would immediately wonder if he was on steroids, which of course he isn't, but being able to change into a giant polar bear gives a person very good genes. Jack is a quiet, laid back individual. His beast’s chaotic nature can often make him quick to show emotions like anger, however, and it is a constant battle to keep his temper in check when he feels threatened, friends are in danger, or his territory is threatened. All of his life Jack has lived with nature and taken care of it. He would often spend the entire summer in a tent in some remote location with his grandparents in Siberia, living off the land and enjoying the unspoiled natural beauty around them. Kids would often make fun of him for always talking about nature and different adventures he had had, but this inevitably bounced off his thick skin. Jack is quick to blame himself for everything, even if it is not his fault, and as a result he has a hard time saying no to anyone, and always feels he has to save everyone. Jack typically wears very little, just enough to be modest in most cultures. He typically wears basketball shorts and a sleeveless hoodie, which is often left unzipped. In most climates his body overheats in warm weather, so the lack of clothing helps to some extent. In colder climates he may wear pants. Jack rarely wears shoes, as he finds them uncomfortable. Push comes to shove he will wear flip flops or sandals. History: Jack has always been at home in the wilds, far from civilization and the comforts of town and technology. While he was raised in the city, his heart always belonged to nature, the solitude of being the only thinking creature for miles in any direction. Jack has always had a keen sense of his surroundings, and rarely has ever gotten lost. Growing up Jack had a fairly comfortable childhood. His father, Ivan, is a respected artist in St. Petersburg. He was on vacation in a remote part of Siberia, painting scenes for a new collection, when he met Rada. The two courted for several months while Ivan painted. When it was time for Ivan to return home, he asked Rada to come with him and they were soon married. It was his mother who encouraged his love of nature, herself coming from a long line of the Ket peoples in Siberia. During a trip to visit his grandparents, Jack and his grandfather went on a rite of passage of sorts, embarking on a wilderness survival journey. During this Journey, Jack was gravely injured by a Polar Bear. His grandfather managed to kill the bear, but Jack was near death and a very long way from a hospital. His Grandfather did not think Jack would make the journey, but he carried him to the hospital, nonetheless. Unbeknownst to Jack or his Grandfather, the spirits had taken pity on Jack, and woven the spirit of the bear into Jack's spirit, to give him enough strength to survive. This changed Jack's life forever. Jack spent the next several months in a coma, awakening as a new man, with little memory of the incident. Doctors couldn't explain how Jack had survived, and at the time, Jack had cared little as to the why, just glad he had survived. About a month after his release from the hospital, Jack began to notice changes. His body had wasted away during the coma, and so he had begun therapy to recover his muscle strength, making astounding progress. His appetite increased, eating nearly everything in the house several times over. As his body healed it grew, gaining several hundred pounds of muscle and almost a foot of height in the span of a month. It was becoming clear that Jack was changing into something different. His parents, fearing for his safety and wanting him to have something of a life, sent him to live with his grandparents, away from the prying eyes of the city. It was here that Jack shifted for the first time, coming across a seal while taking a long walk. The animal spirit inside him Awakened at the chance for a delicious meal, and there was little Jack could do to hold back his inner beast. Over the next year Jack worked hard to learn to contain the beast inside, still only managing marginal control in certain instances, but managing to control himself well enough to feel at ease being around people. It was about this time that his parents sent word to him to come home for a visit. He did so gladly, eager to see his family. His Father worked long hours as curator of a museum in their hometown, making visits difficult, on top of inclement weather and long travel times. When he returned home he was warmly welcomed by his parents and told of something wonderful. His father had been offered a job in America. Jack had the choice of staying with his grandparents, or moving with them to America. While part of him longed to stay in the countryside with his grandparents, something else urged him to go. It wasn't long after they arrived in Freedom City that Jack learned about the Clairemont Academy. He had never told his parents about the shift into animal form, he was scared they would look at him in fear, but his parents had definitely noticed his size increase, as well as increased strength and stamina. His parents thought it a good idea for him to go to a private school, and Jack prepares for his first semester of school in America. Personality & Motivation: Jack is the Epitome of “Don't provoke a sleeping bear”. He is very laid back, until you provoke him, then he can often be scary. Beneath the calm surface he has the spirit of a beast fighting to get out. He can be quick to anger when certain buttons are pushed, but he tries to keep control of himself. Jack is motivated by a love for all things. He understands that there is a cycle of life, and he seeks to preserve freedom in its various forms. He seeks to protect everyone he meets, and doesn't take kindly to anyone messes with someone he seems under his protection. Powers & Tactics: Jack is a brawler by nature, his beastial spirit always seeking to prove itself dominant in any situation. He makes use of his heightened senses when he can, but has a tendency to run into things and start smashing. Power Descriptions: He turns into a giant fuzzy Polar Bear/Hybrid.. His attacks are Bludgeoning or Slashing damage with his fists and claws, and piercing with his teeth. His abilities come from the Bear spirit within him, and as such are Spiritual or Celestial in nature. Complications: Predator: Jack tends to give off an aura that screams 'predator'. This affects people and animals to some degree, inciting panic in civilians who don't know him in his Bear forms. Beastial Nature: Jack is aggressive in his hybrid form, and finds it difficult to back out of a fight, due to his inner beast wanting to prove it's dominance. Colorblind: In his bear forms, Jack can't really distinguish colors; everything looks grayscale. Growls: In Bear Form, Jack is able to speak, however, the angrier he gets the more his bear spirit will take over, which can sometime reduce his speech to animal growls. 9. 1/14/2018 Headmistress Office, Calremont Academy "So, how have you been settling in, Miss Xieng?" Miss Summers asked sitting behind the impressive wooden desk in her tastefully appointed office. Zhu smiled and nodded, "very well Headmistress. I like the school very much." "Excellent, that is something which we of course strive for. It's important that you both enjoy and learn. Believe me, the time will go fast and you may find very unique pressures which you have to face." As the third incarnation of the Raven she had first hand knowledge of what kind of pressures the young girl in front of her might encounter. Zhu was about to reply when a middle aged woman stepped in, "I am sorry for interrupting Miss Summers. However, your 10am is here. Mrs. Davydov and her son. Should I show them in." Miss Summers considered for a moment, "Alexa, would you be willing to do me a favor?" "Yes, ma'am. Of course," Zhu replied. "Excellent. We have a new student starting. I would like to discuss some things with Jack's mother in private. Would you be willing to show Jack around the campus?" Zhu paused, "I would... but I'm still very new here." Miss Summers laughed easily, "yes you are, but admin server you are currently monitoring has a map of the campus whic I'm sure you can find. Besides, it's Sunday and most students are still alseep I would imagine." Nodding, Zhu got up, her pleated skirt falling to her knees as she straightened her simple long sleeved top, "yes ma'am..." she said sheepishly as she had been peeking at some of the nearby computers. Smiling, Miss Summers continued, "let's just not make a habit of going places you shouldn't. Thank you Miss Xieng, I'm sure Mr. Davydov will be fine in your company. We'll talk again later to check on your progress." Stepping out of the office, she ran into a pair of legs. A very large pair of legs. Looking up she realized that it wasn't some kind of colossal leg statue, but they were connected to a person who loomed above her. She blinked a few times at the mountain of a boy before realizing that this must be Jack, craning her neck she gave him a smile, "oh! Sorry... I didn't see you. I'm not sure how I didn't. We're to take a tour of the facility... and... oh! I'm Alexa. Sorry. You have me out of sorts."

  12. The boardwalks own 'Original BurgerShack!' was not as busy as during the summer months certainly but the steady flow of locals looking for what was widely regarded as the best burger and shake this side of the south river earned it the rare honor of being open on the chill winter afternoon. A small number of workers from the nearby indoor attractions and a few die hards getting their burger on were spread out in the ample outdoor seating around the burger shaped hut that housed the BurgerShack! itself. The line wasn't long and moving quick despite the late lunch rush so it was an inviting enough option for the rare passerby. A half dozen construction workers waited patiently off to the side for their orders to be completed and on the edge of the seating area a group of local teens roughhoused boisterously as they clustered around a table just slightly too small for their group to eat the bags of food they'd just recieved.
