  1. GM Prologue: Sometime in the Summer of 2017... ...The office of Amanda St. Croix, Freedom City It was a hot day, and the air con buzzed furiously. Amanda St. Croix was high on coffee, her blonde hair was its predictable mess and the roots were showing. She was a tall, thin, hyperactive woman full of restless energy and inventiveness but still learning the ropes as the manager of Valerie Cain. "Coffee?" she asked Valerie, holding two cups of coffee. Both were for her. Without waiting for an answer, she pressed on, alive with jitters. "Look, I got something pretty mad, but you may like it. But risky, but will make the nudes, I mean the news, big time...." she said, caffeine inspiring her characteristic rambling and Freudian slips. "Got some artistic savante guy, thinks he is breaking new paradigms or something. Totally dick, really. Cranio-rectal fistula. But I gotta hand it to him, he has some skills. Anyway, he wants to film a rock concert at the top of the Burj Khalifa. You know, that mad tall tower in the middle of the desert? If you don't mind a five star holiday, some sand up your backside, and the fact they live in the goddamn middle ages there when it comes to girls and boobs, I mean dudes, then you have a media frenzy that will go down in the history books...." she said, dribbling every word out through coffee and nerves.
  2. GM ???? ????, Freedom City, New Jersey Wednesday, October 5th, 2016 ???? PM Ace Danger When Ace awoke he found himself in a room of mirrors. His lips were notably dry. Having no memory of how he came to be in what appeared to be a funhouse mirror room, Ace could take comfort in the fact that he seemed to still possess much of his equipment. But, it was hard to say if the internationally renowned man of mystery was traveling a little light when the past few hours were a haze. Arcturus When Arcturus awoke his mouth felt unusually dry. He found himself bereft of memories of the past few hours. Leaving him with absolutely no explanation how he found himself in a seemingly empty corridor. Empty, but not silent the sounds of bells and whistles flooded his head. Accompanied by a loud thud every so often as the sound of an object colliding against a nearby wall reverberated through the area. The opposite of the corridor seemed to open up into different pathways, whereas the path behind Marcus seemed to have no other hallways and simply a single door. Wayward Valerie Cain had some vague notion of what how she found herself in this predicament. After all, it was during her concert that things took a turn for the ugly. She was just about to start her set for the crowd, after warming them up with a plead to donate their old toys to the charity drive funding the concert. That was when the gas hit... But, that was then. Now Wayward found herself playing for an entirely different crowd. A pack of lions encircled her. Armed only with her wits and a low cheaply made microphone, Valerie Cain transitioned to her latest career move as a lion tamer.
  3. GM ASTRO Labs Downtown, Freedom City, NJFriday, October 28th, 2016 11:00 PM There were many sounds one didn't want to hear in Freedom City's illustrious tech sector. Explosions could signify a castrophic event, or even the game changing creation of a new powered player in town. Screams and wails often followed a tear in the natural laws of the universe. Then there was of course H. Gordon Willicker's crickety knee. A sound that would be inevitably be followed with a ten minute description of the current pains that plagued his body. In graphic detail. But, the worst sound? Absolute silence. Just after the silence alarm was tripped in the world renowned ASTRO Labs facility, not a peep could be heard. Or seen for that matter. The patrol cars had yet to arrive on the scene, but news was quickly spreading throughout social media. Something weird was happening in ASTRO Labs...
  4. Well. Here we are. We use orokos.com for the rolls, which will go here along with any thread related questions and commentary if you can't find me in Discord. As Rose already knows. And I'll be holding onto these Mistress of Despair Songstress (note: when I built this one, I was still confused about the difference between Perception Range and Perception Area. I'll be treating this one's powers as if they had the latter, as that was my intent. Of course, if you're not reading the sheets of your foes, you're now very confused. Ah, well.)
  5. The scene…well, actually, neither Valerie Cain (alias, among other names, the heroic Wayward) nor Yamazaki Moe (aka the vetted rookie hero Sensus) quite knew where they were. Or how they’d gotten to this random city street. The street was lined with restaurants, bars, and clubs of seemingly every possible variety, and tonight business was booming. Before either heroine could reflect on what was going on here, a door burst open to one of the music clubs. Sobbing people poured out of it in one of several ways; either staggering as if their muscles wouldn’t work properly, attempting to return their dinners and drinks to sender, fleeing in terror, careening off walls and cars as if blind and deaf, or (worst of all) clutching their ears in clear physical agony. Clearly, something had gone horribly wrong in that establishment.
  6. GM May 28th, Sunday, 2017, 5.51PM Maniac Park, Downtown Bedlam, Wisconsin The last set... It was finally here. The last step on a journey across America. The last song that would put an unquiet soul to rest. Val had met the shade named Jane Westerling months back, on a tour through LA. A cover of Michael Jackson's hit 'Billie Jean' had been interrupted by the lights shorting out, a spectral wail and the appearance of a translucent floating figure with every limb out of joint, her head twisted around and her enormous eyes on the back of her head. Thankfully, Jane had just been trying to cheer and her powers had gotten out of hand. After making her earnest apologies and providing her own illumination of shimmering ghostlight, she'd dropped backstage after the show to gush and make a very odd request. "The music makes me whole, Ms. Cain. If I could hear more like it...I could remember myself. Where I can rest. Will you carry me there?" All had become clear as the weeks went by, Val sharing her body with the bubbly, now-healed ghost. No longer monstrous, the music of her long-gone teenage years had formed her back into a flickering, tiny brunette with a small, catlike mouth and large green eyes. She couldn't go far from Val, not that she wanted to. After so long alone it had been a relief to meet someone who could talk to and see her all the time again. Most of the time, she stayed in Val's head and made occasional small talk or went on stream-of-consciousness rambles about this or that, occasionally hitting on a common interest. She had been a music fanatic as a kid growing in Woolverton back in 1983 and when she'd turned 15 in '84 had struck out into the world in a stolen Chevy, following the Star Gods, the greatest musicians of her time. Four years, many life lessons and one lost finger later, she'd finally come home. Then something had happened, she had died been shattered into pieces. A part of her in every place she'd heard the songs she'd loved so much. Right then, Val could feel Jane jittering with excitement as the first chords were struck. The crowd of tired-looking Bedlamites that had gathered in the sprawling, ill-kept park weren't nearly so enthusiastic, but they'd at least made signs. Val could see the less flattering ones at the back torn down, their holders the target of a perfunctory scrap. Everyone not involved kept their eyes front and ignored the shouts and curses drifting in the air. The people in suits around the stage weren't so relaxed. Valerie Cain's security detail were used to rough towns, but they'd been on edge since arriving in Bedlam, Wisconsin, almost paranoid thanks to the rundown city's enormous crime rate. But that couldn't stop the music or dampen the spirits of 'Sweet Child of Mine'
  7. OOC thread for this thread. Best of the 80's meets ghost haps.
  8. Fourth of March, 2016, The Gateway, Goodman Building, Freedom City On its dais in the middle of the stark, open room, the circular Gate pulsed and rippled from the distortion of energy from an open channel to another world. For once, the Gateway was crowded, both with people and luggage, crates and moving equipment, Tesla and Maximus at their control stations the only people with much room to maneuver. Chase and Victoria were mingling with the swell of twenty-odd chatting, nervous scientists wearing A.S.T.R.O. Labs insignia on their jackets and hats, while Cosmo was darting about the room in excitement. The Moon Monkey had to get his hands on anything and everything new or strange, which with a crowd of strangers really was anything. His gleeful shrieking and intrusively curious hands sometimes got him a stern psychic warning, and by now he was much less hyperactive than a quarter of an hour ago. After the media circus outside, it was a pleasant and calming change of pace. The news that the famously secretive Atom Family and endlessly innovative Lab were making a joint ventire into a mysterious new universe had hardly been enough for the news agents and shouting reporters, but the fact that three superheroes were joining them, along with Freedom Cross biologist Tristan Delacroix and journalist Daphne Celeste, had packed the street outside the Goodman Building as fans and well-wishers screamed over each other to their idols. More cynical heads had shouted accusingly that the list of supers was blatantly calculated for news-worthiness rather than "true" value to the expedition. Where, for example, was Daedalus? Dragonfly? Miss Americana or any of the other technically-able or routine dimensional travelers? That had been the point. "People are easily frightened by the unknown, by choosing you" Chase had gestured simply to Terrifica, Velocity and Valerie Cain "we disassociate this expedition with the ideas people have that everywhere we go, there are our enemies." The Gateway glared with red light. It would soon be ready for passage into the Infraverse. For the moment, there was little to do.
  9. McDuffie Community Center, Lincoln Friday, 27th May 2016, 10 am The area around the edge of Lincoln like most of the area had not seen much attention from the city, plagued as it was by drugs and gang violence. So it was rare that something good came to an area like this, and when it did it was something that should be celebrated. A local business woman made good, one Velvet Chiara, had decided to give back to the community by building this new center. To raise always needed fund as well as help promote this new building she was throwing a party that had attracted local campaigners and the braver politicians, who were as usual followed by a few stalwart reporters. Whilst everyone was in good spirits there was a note of caution all around, it was unlikely an event like this would go down without any trouble. Luckily there were people on hand who had experience of such things...
  10. The OoC for this. Feel free to set you characters up as either being part of the celebration or patrolling nearby for when trouble starts.
  11. Tögöl aj Akhui, Mongolia, Edge of the Gobi Desert The town was a small place one where people would normally just travel through on the way to somewhere else, but today the town was home to a variable army of trucks. Not by choice though the various convoys should be well on there way to one of the larger cities of Mongolia or even China, but the spooked drivers refused to travel any further, even for the silly money the Westerners were offering. The day had started well until the region they’d travelled into was hit by a number of small, but disturbing, number of earthquakes. A rumble went through the various local drivers and hand that the Olgoi-khorkhoi were angry for some transgression, the famed Death Worms. This was really quite good for the SuperCrime! crowd who had been trying to track down the elusive creature, and the apparently always frazzled producer was trying to get more information from a rather Grizzled Mongolian who seemed to know more about the creature. Wayward’s crew however were talking about the possibility of hiring an helicopter to get to the next scheduled concert.
  12. Out of character thread for this, where some people go to another world to learn more about it
  13. GM Czanarchy Lincoln, Freedom City, New Jersey 12:24 AM Saturday November 8th, 2014 The little roadhouse sitting between 24th and 28th street, doesn't seem to gather fresh customers all too often. Their brilliant neon alcohol advertising signs shine brightly through the cover of darkness and the live music just sets a certain ambiance that lets everyone know that it was a hot destination. The problem? The unrelenting reflective glow of the choppers lined up directly in front of the establishment, and the even more unrelenting looks of the machines' roughneck looking owners. Czarnachy was not just a fine dining establishment. It was an outlaw biker bar. Known for its fair share of altercations. One simply didn't enter Czanarchy without expecting a little bit of trouble. It was human nature to avoid altercations that would lead to obvious escalation of force. Especially as the men and women who frequented the establishment had no reservations about doing just that. Allegedly However, on this night something peculiar occurred. According to eyewitness accounts, a group of five women clad in leather arrived on the scene. Armed with chains and knives, this female biker gang taunted the local patrons until a bar wide brawl began. The leader of the the female gang stabbed a portly looking man in the throat. In her wake the only thing left behind of the man was a pile of ash. In the commotion the bar was set on fire and is still very much in such a state according to the various means the information is spreading (The news, police scanners, etc.)
  14. August 30th, 2014 - 10:07am Liberty Park - Freedom City GM Post It was the closest thing to a lazy Saturday one could get in Freedom City. Summer was just starting to wind down, so everyone was soaking up the last of the summer sun while they still had the chance. Whether it was just running errands, people going out for an early morning jog, or spending some quality time with the kids, it seemed like everyone was outside today. In a perfect world, the day would unfold without incident, but fate it seemed had other plans for this day. Shortly after 10 o'clock in the morning, a piece of space debris made contact with the upper atmosphere of the earth and began its plummet to the ground in earnest. The fiery rock streaked across the Freedom City skyline, before striking down in the heart of Liberty Park. The shock wave rumbled through the streets and a huge plume of dust and dirt hung over the impact zone. Car alarms, police sirens and the cries of the terrified populace filled the air as everyone tried to get a handle on what just happened.
  15. GM Friday night, 8th August... The Beaudrie Opera House The famous Beaudrie Opera House did not often play Rock Concerts. But it did tonight. For one night only, Freedom City Beaudrie Opera House presents: Valerie Cain! Support Act: Aw3s0m3 Aw3s0m3 were not doing well. This was primarily because they were not very good, and their lead singer, Joe "Superstar" Billings had his charisma surgically removed at birth. The band was trying to wrap up its set whilst dodging things the audience were throwing at them. The crowd was wild for Valerie Cane, and getting impatient. Valerie Cane's Dressing Room.... "Oh my GOD!!!!" Amanda Adams burst into Valeries dressing room and shrieked, half collapsing from excitement. Somehow, Valerie Cane's number one fan had bought her way into the backstage, and into Valeries dressing room. She dropped a whole folders worth of photographs, articles, and scholarly works, all pertaining to Valerie, and they scattered like leaves over the floor. Amanda was a borderline obsessive fan. She had every single thing every produced or made by Valerie or featuring her. Valerie was her heroine. When Amanda was growing up, struggling with her homosexual identity, Valerie's positive role model was her everything. Every night she went to sleep dreaming of a romance with her star. And, to be fair, she was a good catch. Amanda had very close cut blonde hair, a few piercings, a few tattoos, enough to send out a strong hint about her orientation. She was also rather beautiful and, to be blunt, sexy. "I am your number one fan! I know everything about you!" she gushed, dropping to her knees and cryinging at Valeries feet...

  17. Reposting Blue Rose's actions. BR: Needs an OOC thread. I'm taking 10 on stealth for 20 and if someone comes up looking like they're doing business in the van, I'm riding along via sensory link at DC16 will.
  18. 11:01 PM August 8th Riverside was a nicer part of downtown. That didn't mean much. Not to Wayward. Especially when she had dealt with a mugging with a guy who had been a wee bit too strong for his size, and seemed preternaturally agitated. He was high on something, and after a bit of a shakedown she was able to score back to a panel van in an alley. While not the most glamorous, or exotic of locations, it was a fairly smart ploy. As hiding almost in plain site, in a spot where a normal business' delivery van would be. It took a few hours, but she managed across it. Nestled back in an alley, and without really much of a line, it was subtle and obvious at the same time. Had she not known to look for it, she might not have noticed it. Yet, here she was.
  19. Wayward Power Level: 10/11 (161/165 PP) Trade-Offs: +2 Attack/-2 Damage, -2 Toughness/+2 Defense Unspent Power Points: 4 In-Brief: Psychic rock star buttkicker. Now fighting crime on prime time! Alternate Identity: Valerie Cain (celebrity name), Margaret Carter Jr. (birth name), Emily Walker (civilian disguise) Identity: Stage: Public, Birth: Secret, Civilian disguise: Secret Birthplace: Yonkers, NY Occupation: Rock star Affiliations: Excelsior Records, Super-Vision Family: Margaret Carter Sr. (Mother), Walter Carter (Father), Catherine Carter (Younger Sister) Description: Age: 22 (September 13th, 1991) Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5'9" Weight: 145 lbs Eyes: Green Hair: Black (naturally brown) Val is a tall, lean woman as lithe as they come, with shaggy black hair mostly concealing her green eyes, and an athletic build most would have to work their tails off to get. It turns out, when you become a mask professionally, you don't need to wear one on the heroing job. In terms of crimefighting attire, Wayward sports nothing more than her celebrity persona, fighting crime in street clothes, favoring things that are dark, spiky, and show plenty of skin, in support of her rough stage presence. History: Margaret Carter Jr. was born to a middle class family in Yonkers, New York. Her mother was a police officer, and her father was a stage magician. She had everything she really needed, and went to a safe public school. It was a decent life. And boring as Hell. She wanted more. She wanted to shine, to be great, and she knew her old hand-me-down guitar was her ticket to fame. Her parents didn't see it that way, when she started neglecting her studies in favor of her music. There was a lot of yelling. When her parents decided grounding her would include taking away her guitar, it got worse. At fifteen, she ran away. She stole enough money to buy a top-of-the-line guitar, plus cab fair to the city proper, and made her own. Lucky for her, she was as good as she thought, and managed to keep herself fed and housed by performing on the street in Central Park under a new name, Valerie Cain; she could work a crowd like nobody's business, and rock like the best of them. In time, she got picked up by an agent, quickly going through the ranks, first as a backup guitarist, then an opening act, before exploding as a star in her own right, going on her first national tour at twenty. But when she got back, a nagging guilt for the way she ran out grew in the back of her mind. She took some time off decided to go home to Yonkers. While wandering her old home, trying to decide how to say hello after being away for five years. The question was answered for her, when she came on a mugging. The police became involved, and it turned into a shootout. An officer went down. One Officer Margaret Carter. That moment was the first time Valerie's powers became undeniable. There had been subtle, suspicious things before, but when her mother was shot in the leg, she could see it, feel it in every vivid detail as the flurry of emotion in that alley forced itself on her mind as the thug escaped. She was reunited with her family at the hospital. An awkward event, but the circumstances set grudges aside. Yet the scene kept haunting her; Val couldn't just let the situation lie. Stress, fear, bad judgment, and a heaping spoonful of fury sent her into action. A few sly questions here and there to some members of the force who knew her as a kid, and she has as much information as the cops do. Plus, a head start and a speed advantage in the form of a lack of forward thinking. The man, Caleb Donnel, was part of a small gang with a hangout in the back of some rundown bar. A little charm, and she was invited right in, where she took every last one of them down with a pool cue. The police weren't exactly happy about her methods, nor the risk she took, but they thanked her all the same. When she got back to her life as a musician, however, the experience put a bug in her ear. She had powers. And she could fight. And her new label was based out of Freedom City. And she never wanted to let something like what happened in that alley again. She could be a hero. At first, her agent hated the idea, but with some insistence, and a little training with some professionals, an idea was born. A new image; not Valerie Cain, but Wayward. Guitarist. Superhero. TV star. With a co-op with Super-Vision and an advanced hovercam rig, they could catch her crimefighting on camera, and make a mint. Powers & Tactics: Wayward is one of the world's weaker psychics, with only limited control over more limited powers. A subconscious rapport with those around her has benefited her career greatly, and she can makes some conscious contact, but her mental powers are at their most extensive when turned inward. Subconscious manipulation of her own biochemistry has allowed her to maximize benefit from training and nutrition, gaining an Olympian-level body with limited training in bursts far more intense than she would normally manage, an almost-natural array of physical gifts she only suspects might be linked to her powers. letting her focus her real efforts on her music. Likewise, her fighting style relies more on instinct, intuition, luck, and brashness rather than any form of polish, favoring a collapsible staff as her weapon of choice. And given the limits of her mental powers, her work as a hero tends to come down to the physicality and creativity available to mere mortals. Complications: Smile for the Camera: As it turns out, hovercams filming your every move and transmitting them wirelessly can have an effect on delicate crime-fighting situations. Especially when trying to be sneaky. And sometimes, a hovercam getting in the way isn't an accident. Gotta get the ratings, after all, so if things start getting boring beyond the magic of editing? Time for an 'accident.' And if the cameras lose our lovely heroine? Well, there's a bad day right there. Sensitive: Untrained latent telepathy is not necessarily all sunshine and roses. Intense emotion and sensation can influence Wayward as much as the person experiencing them, and sometimes even lingering psychic impressions are enough to get to her. What's more, due to her lac of training, her psychic abilities leave her more open to mental influence, rather than less. Only Human: Through a form of self-hypnosis, Wayward can go well beyond her body's normal physical abilities, but this doesn't change her body's limits, and if she pushes herself like that for too long, she will find the point where her body simply says no. Vertigo: Sharing the senses of another is a disorienting experience, especially when Wayward jumps from one body to the next. She's barely aware of herself when doing it, and when she returns to herself, be it by choice or by force, she needs time to recover. In the Limelight: Fame has a price. As much as she loves her fans, crime fighting is a sensitive business, and it can be a dangerous time for an audience. What's more, she has an image to protect. Tarnishing her reputation can hurt her career. Sucker for a Pretty Face: Looks can be deceiving. A lesson Wayward learned when she was still a kid. However, everyone has their soft spots, and a pretty face playing innocent can find it easy to get past Wayward's better judgment. Mindwarp: Wayward has learned the hard way that her powers make a long-term intimate relationship impossible. The last time she tried, her powers started reaching out more and more for her partner's mind without her willing it until the mental disturbance wouldn't let either of them sleep. Ever. no matter how far apart they were, until they were both hospitalized for exhaustion. With time apart, the effect eventually faded, but it made a continued relationship impossible. Ever since, she's had many relationships, quite a few promising, but all cut short before long. She doesn't give the real explanation, and not all of her many exes are entirely understanding. Amateur Psychic: Though technically a psychic, Wayward's powers are weak and inherently unstable. There are a few things she can use them for reliably, but when she tries to push her abilities in new ways, it rarely goes smoothly. Right to the Head: While a psychically optimized metabolism keeps her in peak physical conditions, it is not without its drawbacks. The perk is a subconscious manifestation of Wayward's own desires. However, this is not without drawback, particularly when it comes to alcohol. When she drinks, she wants to get where she's going, so her body does everything it can to accommodate, making a little alcohol go a long way. Entourage: A rock star is never alone. Whether she's giving a reporter some time, she's giving her input on a project, or she's showing a fan a good time out on the town, when things go south, there's usually someone around that Wayward has to look out for on top of dealing with the crime. Open Channel: The first thing many a budding young psychic learns is how to filter out which thoughts and sensations one sends over telepathic communication. Wayward never learned to do this. When she makes a mental connection with someone, she broadcasts everything she thinks and feels, and the openness of her connection makes it difficult for even seasoned psychics to filter her out.
