  1. Let's have checks! Eira is going to take 20 on her Computers - even with her Quickness, gonna be a while. Life Sciences for you, @Electra, and detective stuff for you, @HGM
  2. Somewhere. Sometime. April 9, 2020 Each of them woke up alone in a featureless white room with a single equally featureless automatic sliding door. Woke up in the general sense of coming to awareness, not having actually been unconscious. This was most odd, as they had decidedly not each been alone in a featureless white room the minute before. A few seconds’ worth of remembering would allow them to recall the air wavering in front of them, several seconds of blackness, an instant of nonawareness, and then the current situation. Any superhuman sensory abilities would not penetrate the walls of the room. The door would, of course, open if they approached it, revealing a featureless white corridor with another door not a full minute’s walk away at the end of it. This second door would also open, revealing a central room into which all of their hallways fed into. This room was decorated as if for a party, with a big colorful banner that said "WELCOME FREEDOM LEAGUE!", and a circular table with several chairs around it. All of the decorations were oriented towards the doors. A glance above their heads upon entry would reveal an inactive viewscreen and camera.
  3. High Earth Orbit The Lighthouse Friday February 7, 2020 8:50 PM Greenwich Mean Time (3:50 PM Freedom City) In the aftermath of Eria's first meeting with her fellow members of Orange Team, the Swedish teen had made arrangements for her team to spend the weekend on CoVic Station as guests of the Praetorians. So when classes had finished today, the members of Orange Team were taken in a school van to Freedom Hall, where they teleported up to the Lighthouse, the most convenient place for the Praetorians to meet them. The Claremont students had been aboard the Freedom League's space headquarters for about half an hour, getting a tour from Freedom League member Velocity, who for the most part had managed to keep herself moving at a more normal speed. When the yellow clad speedster got word that the Praetorians' spacecraft had exited the wormhole at the edge of the solar system, she led the teens down to a large viewing lounge located near the airlock where the spacecraft would be docking. Outside the large windows of the lounge, the teens could see the Earth moving past below, with the northern half of Africa having moved into view. "Well, it should only be a few more minutes before they arrive." Velocity said as she moved over near some of the windows before turning back to regard the group of teens.
  4. March 21, 2020 DuTemps Castle "Kimber!" called Eira from the guest bedroom the Claremont girls were using to change. "I need your advice!" Technically the members of Orange Squad (along with her room-mate and her friend Pan) were here for diplomatic and professional purposes. True North, Canada's super-team, had recently teamed up with the British super-team Vanguard to battle the forces of the Fenian Liberation Army - the fight had been long, been hard, and it was all very interesting if you cared about the history of cross-Atlantic imperialism and the lasting legacy of American and British imperialism. But what was relevant right now was that in the aftermath of the battle in upstate New York, the teams had come to a neutral spot to celebrate, reconnect, and enjoy the hospitality of one of their richest American partners. It was a great opportunity to meet adult heroes from all over Europe and Canada, use the DuTemps pool - the big one, that the Deep One who lived here typically avoided because of its chlorination, get acquainted with the Claremont alums who lived in the castle, get out from under Claremont discipline under the watchful eye of adult heroes, and maybe hit the sound system and eat snacks while they were at it.
  5. April 2020 Eira Katastroff and Kay Tregennis were friends. Oh they had their differences. Eira's parents had doted on their only daughter all their lives. Kay's parents had all but lost sight of their youngest child until the bus crash that had left her in a locked-in condition. Eira's parents were wealthy, the sort of northern European old money that could have stepped off the set of Downton Abby: The Later Years, Kay's parents were dairy farmers living close to the edge of poverty on the coast of Cornwall. Eira liked metal music and Kay liked chav-hop, Eira loved science and Kay wasn't really interested in anything except her art. Eira was of average height and liked to dye her hair and experiment with her physique, Kay was short and liked her red curls. But they did have one thing in common that had brought them both together - they were both young European women who had made the transition from organic to synthetic bodies about the same time; raised together, discussed together among the circles of super-scientists familiar with their respective cases. There weren't so many people like that that you could ignore one, and they'd had enough experiences and people and places in common that she (along with Synapse) were probably the people in Freedom City who really knew Kay well. If anyone had. She was legally of age; there'd been nobody to stop her from walking out of school, buying tickets to the Ukraine, and then simply walking across the border to Rurland. Eira had gotten Lady Farrington's message about reaching out to Kay - and so at the appointed time, had arrived at her front door. She was dressed 'down' today, in a jean jacket and Amon Amarth black T-shirt, a small belt of gear hanging around her waist as she knocked.
  6. January 2020 History Study Group "This text is nonsense," said Eira flatly, setting down their European history book and looking at the other students she'd been assigned to work with bored contempt reflected in her wide blue eyes. "Two thousand years of Scandanavian history and they are obsessed with three hundred years of Vikings. Dum," she pronounced in Swedish with authority. "If you actually want to learn about Nordic history, you should do your own research."
  7. January 2020 Just after "One by One" When Lulu arrived back at her dorm room after the meeting with Orange Squad, she knew Eira was in there - and in a mood. They'd only been sharing the same space for a few days but she knew what the loud music meant when the door was closed; and that Eira would be perfectly content to listen to it for hours at a time unless she was asked to stop. The sound vibrated through her hand as she opened the door, and she was bombarded by a guttural German voice singing a song that had been five years old when she was born, playing at a volume that pushed the limits of Claremont's policies without actually breaking them. "Du! Du Hast! Du Hast Mich!" Eira was standing at her desk-turned-lab-table, violently banging her head and thrashing her limbs, mouthing along to the song. She'd taken off her hoodie and was down to a black halter top that set off sharply against her pale skin, exposing what looked like deep scars over her shoulder blades as she danced. Eira was not by any means what Lulu would have called a competent dancer, but she was certainly aggressive about it. She looked Lulu's way as she came in; but didn't immediately stop.
  8. January 2020 Eira sat in the library meeting room, staring at the closed door. The lights were off and it was quiet, and she had arrived several minutes early for the Orange Squad meeting. She was wearing an oversized blue hoodie and jeans, a concession to the relative cold that her robotic nature didn't actually require. This would be the first time she'd met most of the Orange Squad, the team to which she'd been assigned upon her admission to Claremont - an admission made possible by her parents connection to the hero community and substantial wealth. It was team-building day.
  9. February 17, 2020 15 minutes before the first class of the day Her face a picture that might have been captioned "Soon!", Eira Katastroff leaned back against the wall, a lazy smile on her face as her internal clock ran down. The halls were full of people in their lockers, heading to and from class, chatting and texting to each other, but as usual she seemed to be an island unto herself amidst the other teenagers. Smirking, she leaned back against the wall, her blue hair visible inside the yellow hoodie she'd pulled up over her head, and watched the other students go by, her head rocking slightly to the beat of an inaudible melody.
  10. January 2020 Claremont Academy Amid all the hubbub and bub of learning the secrets of various friends, and going on cosmic adventures with other friends, Crystal-Gazer had almost (but not quite) missed the fact that she'd technically been without a room-mate for the entire fall semester. There'd been a conversation before break about how she was going to have a new room-mate after the Christmas holiday, a girl from Sweden named Eira, but that was about all she'd heard. Now it was move-back-in day after the break, and she was set to meet her new room-mate for the first time. She was on her way down the hall to her room, the hallways full of students, parents, and even the occasional friend, when she overheard an argument coming from her open door - an argument that she couldn't understand. First came a man's voice, an older one. Someone not quite yelling but certainly speaking with authority, in a language that she couldn't immediately understand, a feminine voice about her own age. Then another voice, a woman's, as upset as the man's. It wasn't quite loud enough that people were coming to investigate but they were certainly listening. Turning the corner and stepping into her room, she was confronted with two people, no - three? The first two were easy enough to understand. A man in a shirt and slacks that were too expensive to be as casual as he wanted to look, the sort of middle-aged that's beginning to turn into a paunch, a blonde mustache turning to grey on his face. The woman next to him looked much the same, her blonde hair cut short in a pageboy, jewelry on her neck and hands, looking more like a college president than anything else. At Lulu's arrival, they turned to her and smiled politely. "Hello," said the father, "you must be...Lulu?" his accent in English was distinct, but his command of the language fluent. The third occupant of the room stared at Lulu, her pale cheeks flushed from anger. She looked like a punk, hair dyed blue and face pierced, and the only piece of furniture she'd brought with her was a single valise she'd left on the vacant desk on the other side of the room. She said nothing...and thought nothing. As far as Lulu could tell, there was nothing there at all. "Aren't you going to say hello, Eira?" asked her mother. Eira rolled her eyes and fired something off that made her parents glare at her. With a sigh, she turned her attention to Lulu. "Hello. What are you in for?"
  11. February 2020 Art Class A Day Before The Eagle Flies Alone The argument with the teacher had not quite been loud but it had certainly been heard across the class. Eira Katastroff had let her know in tones of offended dignity that forced collaboration was a patently failed pedagogical technique that did not actively promote learning. But when faced with a threat to the headmistress's office if she didn't follow instructions, Eira had backed down, just in time to find herself sitting opposite the leader of Orange Squad, who by the grim logic of an odd-numbered class had found herself without a partner at a critical moment. The assignment was to "create a representation of each other" - and as Eira glared at Mia, her arms folded across her chest, her blue hair a striking contrast against her button-down white dress shirt, she was certainly a striking picture. The teacher was on the other side of the room and the studio space was big, and the two of them had privacy if they were willing to talk quietly.
  12. January 2020 Claremont Cafeteria Eira sat alone at lunch, not seemingly bothered by the fact. Her plate was full of the vegan lunch specials of the day - a cup of tomato basil soup, a curry-spiced sweet potato and wild rice burger, a pesto chickpea salad on the side, and a slice of coconut yogurt cheesecake topped by a few raspberries. Those passing close to the blue-haired teen could faintly hear music as they went, the strains of some half-audible rock music playing, but she wore no headphones. She was wearing a long-sleeved white shirt with a basketball jersey over it and sweatpants, her facial piercings glinting in the light overhead as she tilted her head back to eat, the soup briefly a red stain on her blue-painted lips before she dabbed it away with a napkin.
  13. January 2020 Claremont Academy Chemistry 102 "I am Eira Katastroff Natt och Dag. I am from Sweden." Standing at the front of the class, Eira stared straight ahead and recited much the same speech she had in every single one of her classes that day, her calculatedly blank face belied by the anger burning in her words. When she was done, she walked back to her seat and sat down, crossing her arms over her chest and giving the teacher an unblinking blue-eyed stare. When their teacher stopped her lecture early to break the students up into lab partners, the new student smirked faintly before cracking open the handout to look at their assignment instructions. There'd been some talk of picking lab partners for this activity, but the idea didn't seem to be on her mind even as the other students began the cautious reunification that comes with the first day of class. "Papper," she muttered she paged through the two-page handout. "Dum."
  14. (this sheet uses my last veteran reward) Angelic (Änglalik in her native Swedish) Power Level: 10/11 (202/207PP) Unspent Power Points: 5 Trade-Offs: ±0 Attack / ±0 Damage, -2 Defense / +2 Toughness Identity: Secret Alternate Identity: Eira Katastroff Natt och Dag Birthplace: Sigtuna, Sweden Legal Status: Swedish citizen with no criminal record Base of Operations: Freedom City, New Jersey Residence: Claremont Academy Occupation: SCIENCE Affiliations: The Katastroff Family Family: Bernhard Katastroff (Father) Magda Natt och Dag (Mother) Age: 19 (Date of Birth: April 1st, 2002) Gender: Female Species: Machine intelligence Height: 5'7" Weight: 150 lbs Skin: Pale/Silver Hair: Blue/NA Eyes: Blue/Blank White Orbs Character History: Eira Katastroff Natt och Dag is from one of the oldest families in Sweden; the Katastroffs can trace their maternal lineage back to the House of Vasa in the 1500s, while the Natt och Dag clan's heritage goes back to the medieval period. In the days of her ancestors, this would have meant a cloistered childhood in a castle, an education in sewing and household management, and eventual marriage for political purposes. But Europe's nobility is (generally) not what it is in old American movies. Though Eira was technically born in a castle outside the small town of Sigstuna, her family actually lives in a 19th century mansion nearby, and a significant portion of their income comes from renting the Natt och Dag castle out to the government for tourist purposes. Her father is technically heir to a great many noble titles but in day-to-day life is an investment banker, while her mother (of equally noble lineage) is actually one of Sweden's more successful tax attorneys. When she was four years old, she started getting sick - a sickness that grew worse and worse as she got older and older, until when she was eight years old it seemed like she wouldn't live another year. She couldn’t even pronounce the name of the disease until after her second birth - but it was in her heart, it was slow, and it would mean her death before she reached the age of 10. She remembers those days painfully; how sick and cold she was all the time, as if she would never get better again, the weeks, then months inside and outside of hospitals, how she hated the way other children could run and play when she was caged by her own failing flesh, and how sad it seemed that she was going to Heaven before she even learned to ride a bike. She believed in Heaven then, in the idea of a world where everything would be better even if nothing was good here. And then her uncle and his friends from America helped her. It took her some time to actually understand what had happened to her - her brain patterns had been carefully studied by some of the most powerful computers (and minds) on Earth, then reconstructed inside a computer even as her organic body died. From there her brain was uploaded into a new body; a cunningly-built robotic duplicate of her original physique. All she really knew was that she was healthy now, and could go into computers if she wanted, and if she had to learn how to control a body again - well it was still better than the failing one she'd had. If her parents had any hesitation about what had happened, a daughter who could run and play and hug them was a great balm to the mind. For her part, Eira was delighted to make new friends - to really get to know her uncle as more than just a smiling Jultomten figure, to meet American superheroes like her beautiful Tant Americana, like Sharl, who was like the older brother she’d never had, and friends of his who were like fantastic creatures from another life. Eira's childhood has been distinctly...odd, even if you leave out the superheroes - a body growing in fits and starts as advancing technology allowed for more and more upgrades, and as her 'flesh' was enhanced to match her aging mind. She remembers the day she chose to start her puberty, when a mental command at the age of fourteen awakened cunningly-concealed programming that she’s still learning how to cope with. Most of her education took place privately through hired tutors, and she made few friends her own age. But she’s an unparalleled genius (as well she should be) and by the age of sixteen had earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Stockholm University in Sweden. She’s recently returned from a year in space alongside her “big brother”, the Terran-born Lor hero Citizen - and is eager to apply what she’s learned to Earth. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone quite the way she expected lately. Her behavior is not 'out of control' and she certainly has not "allowed her intelligence to blind her to the need to understand human beings!" Now she’s graduated from Claremont and working in Freedom City, the better to break into her role as a truly global heroine! Physical Description: When she can get away with it, Eira Katastroff Natt och Dag dresses like the metalhead she is. Usually this just means a black T-shirt emblazoned with bands she likes (she's a big fan of Arch Enemy, especially because some people say it's not real metal) and riveted jeans; but she likes to take the time to make really good outfits out of black leather and metal before she hits a concert. When she can't get away with it, she reluctantly dons the formal dresses and flowery blouses that befits a member of the Swedish nobility. (She has to make more public appearances than she'd like, primarily at the hospitals that her family's wealth helps endow.) She has long hair that she's dyed bluish-white, and when she can get away with it she likes to let it fall down across her face - though that's primarily just for a look. When she's working on a project, she pulls her hair back in a ponytail, pulls on a leather apron over her outfit, and goes to work. She likes to wear circular black mirrorshades that look vaguely steampunk. Angelic is a gorgeous, traditionally feminine paragon that looks decidedly different from the punk-rock inventor that is Eira Katastroff. Her short blonde hair and her blue eyes are perfect, her voluptuous form hugged tightly by a blue and yellow costume with a large S across the chest and a flowing golden cape behind her. She flies with a skirt on and shorts on under the skirt. She does not have any visible piercings or tattoos, though technically the one on Eira’s back that reads FOREVER GIRL is just magnetically treated skin. She speaks English with a distinct Swedish accent. Her Galstandard is accented to a cunning traveler of the stars, but it's rather different - it's distinctly old-fashioned and rustic, the celestial equivalent of Appalachian English. Eira likes to wear eye-catching makeup, usually dark blue lipstick and eyeliner to match her hair and pale complexion, but will reluctantly don a more conventional appearance if she needs to fit in. She has several piercings and likes to move them around - after all, they don’t really cause her any pain and she can easily seal the holes up again. Currently she has both ears pierced (she likes to wear pentagram earrings, as they’re metal!) and her left eyebrow (it’s just a studded bar), the ones in her ears are iron and the one in her eyebrow is silver. Powers and Tactics: Angelic prefers not to fight but sometimes you must. She does a distinct ritual with her fingers whenever she's about to go into battle; cracking her knuckles and spreading her fingers out just so; this has to do with tying into the circuits in her wings as well as powering up her internal systems. Her primary combat weapon is the spikes of computronium buried above her wrists that she can extrude at will, the extruded blades letting her directly interface with a wide variety of cybernetic system, and are also really sharp! She can cut you with her wings, too, so watch out, dårar! Her powers are essentially cyberkinetic in nature, so any power stunts will be centered around that. Personality and Motivation: “Higher. Further. Faster.” Eira’s personality is one that looks for limits and pushes them as far as they’ll go - sometimes dangerously. Even she’s not immortal. She is just a robot angel cast in lightning. Eira is arrogant, as well she should be. She is considerably smarter, stronger, and tougher than most people she knows - and indeed most anyone else, anywhere.. Eira also has lots of self-doubt, as many publicly arrogant people do - she wonders if she’ll ever have real friends or a romantic partner. She knows all too well how different she is from other people - and deep down she wishes she was a bit more like them. Part of the reason she likes listening to metal music is that it’s something normal teenagers like to do - but mostly it’s because she likes the sound. Eira enjoys the chance to apply her intelligence to bringing down enemies, and isn’t above pointing out to them exactly how she just did the thing she did to bring them low. Eira likes showmanship - though she’s still not entirely good at it. Eira identifies as a machine intelligence, though it’s not a fact she’s particularly eager to broadcast. (She doesn’t want to be a test case for Europe or America’s laws about the legal rights of machines, even if she’d probably win such a test case because of her family’s wealth and connections.) She doesn’t particularly identify with other machine intelligences as equals, but she would react violently and vigorously to any organic attempts to enslave other machine intelligences. After all, she knows where that’s going. Eira has some rather old-fashioned attitudes about the Norse pantheon, and regards their current resurgence as a sign of how many people have forgotten the lessons of World War 2. She is vigorously proud of the Fenriswulf, and of the family scandal some seventy-five years ago when her maternal grandmother was born as a result of a civil marriage between a scion of Swedish nobility and the painter from Norway he'd invited into his home in 1940. Complications: Domo Arigato: Eira is a robot; things that work on the living do not work on her, while things that work on machines work all too well. Friends On The Other Side: From Fenris to the Storm family,. from Citizen to Miss Americana, Eira has friends and family all over the world and beyond - but many of them have powerful enemies. "Little Niece": Eira grew up in the shadow of the superheroic community - and now everybody knows her! Scientists and engineers recognize Miss Americana and Dragonfly's perky little assistant, hobgoblins and frost giants recognize Kimber Storm's little niece with all the questions, Praetorians and Lor recognize Citizen's little sister with the big smile (my how you've changed, etc), and so on, and so on, and so on. It has its advantages but it also means that everyone's watching - or it feels that way, anyway! Machine Within: Eira's skin has a tendency to get knocked around when she takes hard hits, sliding around loosely or even parting to show the wet pink polymer underneath. Her 'blood' is a magnetorheological fluid that looks like high-quality stage blood but is clearly not under the slightest serious chemical investigation. Her eyes are typically blue but glow blue if damaged. Not Included: Eira's internal power source is a powerful chemical battery rather than an internal power plant - this makes it relatively easy for her to repair and recharge herself, but it does mean she's vulnerable to being captured and disabled. This Flesh: Is Eira's disconnection from the flesh a result of her cybernetic nature, or just because she's eighteen? Either way, she's eager to feel things - just not to show that she's feeling them. Uncanny Valley: Eira is perfectly human on the outside. But sometimes creatures, and people, with particular sensitivities will get a strange vibe off her - as if she is the dead brought back to life, or something that never was alive. When the family business took her mother and father to America, she was delighted to follow - finally, a chance to learn and do more! Katastroff Industries is one of the largest investors in post-Michael Vibora Bay, with their headquarters on the twenty-third floor of the Crabtree Building. But Eira has other reasons to take an interest in Vibora Bay. Eira is all too well aware of the city’s reputation as a center of magical power, something that’s become a subject of great interest to her in the last few years. With an aunt who’s a ghost and friends who work wonders, she knows that magic is all-too-real - and that in particular, ghosts and a hereafter are real too. These are matters of great concern for Eira because she knows a secret. Her mind is an emulation of a living brain’s - but it is not that living brain. Perhaps when she’s older, she’ll accept that in the same way biological people shrug off the way their consciousness is severed by sleep every night. But she is not ready to accept that. She was a living brain, she no longer is - so what is it inside living brains that make them special? And what happens when they die? Vibora Bay is the perfect place to find out - the perfect place for Science! to master The Grave! Angelic is the image of a techno-paragon - quite calculatingly so. No one would mistake her for human with her silver-chrome skin and metallic body, clearly an android that’s no one’s idea of human. (She doesn’t need to do this to use her powers, but it’s an effective disguise to make people think she does.) When she's 'powered up' her internal systems, her eyes crackle lightning white - the energy they throw off making it impossible to get a clear image of her face. She looks like an electric angel in the air , and that's the way she likes it. When she opens her wings, they look like chrome leaves crackling with electricity - making her the perfect Art Deco angel. Angelic speaks with a distinct throaty vibrato, rather different than Eira’s rather firm alto. Powers and Tactics: Angelic prefers to fight from a distance, hovering out of reach and throwing heavy objects at her opponents. She doesn't like to get her hands dirty with anything except machine oil. She does a distinct ritual with her fingers whenever she's about to go into battle; cracking her knuckles and spreading her fingers out just so; this has to do with tying into the circuits in her wings as well as powering up her internal magnetic coils. Her favorite recent innovation is her wings, an expandable frame of nano-edged metal that she can power up with her own internal energies. She looks quite fearsome wielding them in combat, blue-white lightning crackling from the across her wings. The main advantage to fighting hand-to-hand with her fists is that it's much less energy-intensive than her magnetic powers. Her powers are essentially electromagnetic in nature, so most likely power stunts will be themed around electricity or magnetism. She is considerably smarter, stronger, and tougher than most people she knows - her vast intelligence and tireless labor means that she’s already earned an online bachelor’s degree from the University of Stockholm. Eira likes fighting - though as mentioned elsewhere, she’s not particularly a fan of hand-to-hand combat. She enjoys the chance to apply her intelligence to bringing down enemies, and isn’t above pointing out to them exactly how she just did the thing she did to bring them low. Eira likes boys but deep down she doesn’t think any boy would want to date someone as smart as her. It occurs to her sometimes that it would be a simple matter of self-adjustment to be interested in dating girls, or both, or anything else she wanted, but that thought is thoroughly terrifying - besides, in her experience girls aren’t really that much different when it comes to appreciating her. Eira has some rather old-fashioned attitudes about the Norse pantheon, and regards their current resurgence as a sign of how many people have forgotten the lessons of World War 2. She is vigorously proud of the Fenriswulf, and of the family scandal some seventy-five years ago when her paternal grandmother was born as a result of a civil marriage between a scion of Swedish nobility and the painter from Norway he'd invited into his home in 1940. Complications: Domo Arigato: Eira is a robot; things that work on the living do not work on her, while things that work on machines work all too well. Family Ties: Though Eira has kept from the general public that she and Angelic are one and the same, she is still famous as Vibora “new money” - and her family ties in the city bring many obligations. Friends On The Other Side: From Fenris to the Storm family,. Eira has friends and family all over the world and beyond - but many of them have powerful enemies. Grounded: Eira’s magnetic flight doesn’t actually work outside of a large urban area. At all. Play With Magic: Some would say it is unethical to build cages to trap non-sentient necromantic energies and that perhaps it will only attract the attention of powerful and hostile extradimensional entities - but _is_ it? _Is_ it? Robot on Fire: Extreme heat can scramble Eira's powers at GM's discretion. Sh!t Bats: Eira's going through a bit of a punk phase right now. This Flesh: Is Eira's disconnection from the flesh a result of her cybernetic nature, or just because she's seventeen? Either way, she's eager to feel things - just not to show that she's feeling them. Uncanny Valley: Eira is perfectly human on the outside. But sometimes creatures, and people, with particular sensitivities will get a strange vibe off her - as if she is the dead brought back to life, or something that never was alive.
