  1. "Citizen of Earth! Be not alarmed! I am B'Ka, of the Star Knights, and I come in search of dangerous criminals!" A thunderous, modulated voice boomed behind him. A giant brass minotaur stepped out of the shadows, eyes glaring with some unearthly light! They towered over Rebellion, with fists as large around as his own head, and a huge pair of curving horns arcing above a long, fearsome face! With heavy steps, the metal creature approached, hunched slightly and looking closely at the creeping conspirator and his newfound evidence of foul play. Between the thuds of powerful hooves Elliot heard a low, deep snuffling noise. Coming to a halt a few feet from the human, the imposing figure looked up and down the road, the light of its eyes glaring through the still night. Bending down, until their head was inches above the ground, Elliot heard a series of quick, sharp sniffles sandwiched between a noise like sliding metal. On hands and knees, the creature crawled back and forth across the round, finally going in a circle around the dust pile. Placing both titanic fist on their hips, the figure identified as B'Ka growled "Passer-by, are you aware of any smuggling on this planet? Originating from outer space? Citizens of Coalition space, armed with weapons capable of this level of carnage," he(?) indicated the sad mound, "are believed to be active in this area committing such crimes!"
  2. "Us dragons evolved from the deepwyrms, and naturally-occurring minerals are what we live on. I'm not old enough for the hard stuff, so I gotta make do with plants with a lot of minerals in 'em, it's what these help us detect," Dio flicked his tail across the six long gashes on his snout that widened and closed in time with his heavy breath, "and you smell a lot like a meteorite I found on one of the Blue's-" the forked tongue lashed out as his eyes lifted, scanning the ceiling, a low growl of frustration rumbling in his gut before suddenly dropping with what, on a reptile, might have been a smile, "-Neptune's moons. Real metallic, with a kind of acidic tang. Some of the technology around here is pretty advanced, so I just figured you might have some kind of invisible, super-spy stealth armor." Dropping onto his paws, Dio dropped his head until it was level with Indira's. This close, he had to turn so only one eye was visible, looking her up and down. "Do people really not take you seriously just because of how you dress? That sounds like a pretty easy system to game!"
  3. Going to use B'Ka for this. Going to use Survival with the Tracking Olfactory sense to see where they had gone, and make an Intelligence check to know what the heck Rebellion is. Survival: 17. Intelligence: 10. What's that get, chief?
  4. "Anyone can meet her, she is much less busy than she used to be. I even intended to see her and the rest of my family over this trip, yet..." Leroy tilted his head up to look at the black tower stabbing down like the sword of Damocles, "...I am uncertain if any of you would gain much from the meeting. Mother is rather like you, Night, if you were psychic and believed all obstacles are self-created. The odds are high she will simply insult you all and then leave, and I want this to be an enjoyable time!" "What?" Dio turned on Leroy, confusion stamped on his huge head, "How is that not fun? They can hang that over you forever!" "That is also what I am afraid of, yes."
  5. "I now, at least, better grasp the stakes. From what you have told me, my tattoos and family scars endanger us more than enough." Stroking a slender hand across his cheek, Leroy watched it sparkle in the light with gold dust. "You have already saved my soul. It would be impossible to repay such a gift, Dee. Having caused such heartache, and proven such a poor student, your anger is well-earned and richly deserved." Scattering the gold with a snap of his fingers, he turned back to the projected image of his girlfriend in a swirl and blaze of white, black and gold "Yet I promise, Judy, that I will be ready when the time comes. Each day I better understand my blunders, and your refusal to accept my misbehaviour has forced me to confront much that I was never conscious of before. One by one, the bonds to my old self sever. Over the spring break, I will make my formal goodbyes to my homeworld and never return. With Orange Squad to escort me, I shall not prolong my stay." "In this world, nothing matters more to me than you and your happiness. I will prove it by overcoming myself for your sake. I love you, Dee, with all that I have!" The last was still in a soft, gentle rumble, but burst from him with the force and intensity of a shout. --------------- Dio shuddered and made an indescribable face. Jutting out his long, forkéd tongue several times in rapid succession, the dragon rolled onto his legs and curved his serpentine neck around to take stock of the party. The nasal slits on either side of his snout flared at the sight(scent?) of the metal creature that had appeared from seemingly nowhere. Waddling at first as he got the blood flowing back into his legs, the giant reptile loped gingerly across the floor to pause over the quartet of Erick, Mali, Davyd and Indira. "Where are you from?" he asked the undercover alien conversationally, sitting heavily back on his haunches, staring down with bright yellow eyes on either side of his heavy snout. "I'm Dio, a priest of the Dragon Below, I'm from over on Earth-2. It's kind of a weird place sometimes but you get used to it. Are you wearing some kind of armor?"
  6. Moved Duration on the Illusion up to Sustained, lowered the rank to 8, removed the Morph, dropped the rank on Mind Control and added four Power Feats to it. I think it's ready @EternalPhoenix
  7. @EternalPhoenix Ready and waiting. I dropped the combat to caps, consolidated various Ability increases, and removed the Disadvantages.
  8. Dio Power Level: 10 (as PL 8 150/150PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: -2 Defense / +2 Toughness In Brief: Fast-talking holy warrior with a talent for magic and being a dragon. Catchphrase: "Hey! It's me!" Theme: Shin Megami Tensei IV OST: Chaos Origin Alternate Identity: Vaerscingatorriks (Secret) Birthplace: A grassy sward, Earth-2(Earth-W Tech 94527) Residence: Freedom City, Earth-Prime Base of Operations: Claremont Academy Occupation: Acolyte of Ghorummaz Affiliations: Claremont Academy, Southside Botanica, Sun Dragon Family: For religious reasons, Dio has temporarily cut ties with his mother Red Rage Llornshrakull and his several hundred relatives. Description: Age: 16 (DoB: 2002, 25th June]) Apparent Age: Second stage of development Gender: Masculine, presently Ethnicity: Greenscale Height: 8ft long, w/tail 12ft, 8ft tall Weight: 600lbs Eyes: Yellow Hair: N/A Dio is a stocky dragon with grass-green scales, shading to yellow plates on front of the neck, the underbelly and on the bottom of his tail. His wings are 50ft across when unfurled, deep green, narrow and clearly built for speed. A frill fading from green at the base to dandelion-yellow at the tips runs from his the crown of his head to the nape of his neck, another travelling from the tip of his tail to the join with his back. His eyes are slitted, shining gold and burning with intelligence. He's long-limbed for a dragon, reaching to 16ft when on his hind legs and with an arched, flexible neck. Unlike most dragons, Dio doesn't have teeth, instead having bony ledges in a mouth built for gripping, crushing and grinding, with a red forked tongue that periodically flicks out to taste the air. History: The dragons know that Ghorummaz Earth-Binder is the guardian of reality, the shepard of life, without whom all would have fallen to ruin before the first star was born. However, not many dragons go from mere acknowledgement of this to outright worship. Vaerscingatorriks is an exception. Born on the peaceful world of Earth-2, the greenscale heard the call to her faithful, flying far from his his home until he found the network of caves Amatekon the Great Uniter had called his people from. Tracing their roots deep into the planet, digging through ancient cave-ins, fighting or tricking age-old guardians, braving seas of magma and utter darkness, Dio at last came before the heart of the world. There Ghorummaz spoke through the roar of subterranean fires, the grinding of continental plates, the icy calm of underworld seas, the whistling wail of brewing gas, teaching him the ways of magic. He emerged years later, traveled back to inhabited territory and presented himself before the family of Amatekon Ransome-Kuti. He joined his mind with her son, Leroy Remilikun, and in the boy found his match. He was appointed teacher and guardian, to instruct Leroy in the ways of the true faith and to help him find his own destiny and path to power. In return for his help, Vaerscingatorriks would be obeyed and protected, and his quest to better know the ways of Ghorummaz would be given precedence over the boy's own wishes. The two became inseparable, wandering Earth-2 and exploring its furthest reaches. The assignment to Earth is but the first stage in a lengthy program, and in honor of this new beginning Vaerscingatorriks was given the first part of a new name by his companion. Leroy named him 'Dio', after the famous late 20th century acrobat and stuntman Kobayashi "Dio" Atsushi, mostly as a jab at his teacher's clumsiness. Dio has heard rumors that Ghorummaz is physically present somewhere on Earth-Prime, and intends to find a way to locate her. She left him clues of how and why she would speak with him again, and deciphering those clues is becoming the dragon's life mission. Personality & Motivation: Dio is as pious as he is practical. The faith of Ghorummaz burns away excessive self-regard or pride, as the followers of the Buried Dragon almost always are met face to face with their own irrelevance in the cosmic scale. He's still a dragon, but it comes out mainly in looking to collect allies, security and territory rather than a domineering or contemptuous attitude towards other life-forms. While he's intensely devoted to Ghorummaz and Leroy's teacher in the Paths of the Orisha, Dio prefers not to talk about religion. His own beliefs compel him to keep such things under wraps to avoid influencing the spiritual development of others or pejudicing them about the real world beyond matter. Powers & Tactics: Dio lacks entirely Leroy's tactical acumen and training, and his brute-force attitude frequently runs into the indirect and deceptive nature of his magical gifts. In combat he mostly either attacks head-on against weaker opponents, or uses his illusions and summoned earth-claws to keep stronger ones off-balance and aiming at the wrong targets. Coming from a world where all problems are effectively solved, he struggles with the concept of 'property damage' as something to worry about, carelessly using his size, fire and strength to demolish battlegrounds that aren't in his favor. His teleportation spell lets him simply ignore walls and inconvenient gaps, and his knowledge of crossroad dimensions lets him move laterally in ways most foes can't match. Of course, he still needs to navigate those interstitial dimensions. Power Descriptions: Dio's magic is consistently given to earth or fire imagery. His fiery breath is blue, a stabbing tongue of flame gouting from his mouth. The Dreams of Ghorummaz dissolve into heat shimmers and the noise of shifting stone to those who manage to overcome them. Ghorummaz's Dictum fills the heads of outsiders to a given plane with visions of a dragon-shaped wave of magma rushing towards them as their free will is obliterated. The Grasping Claw is, quite simply, a claw of stone that bursts from the ground and grabs his targets, rock seeping to cover the target's whole body. The World-Crossing Wings give his body a sheen of blue fire, reality catching fire and burning aside to reveal his new location. Complications: A Ghost of a Time: Being a conduit to the forces of the Earth, Dio is an attractive target for possession or blackmail. Bound: Dio cannot abandon Leroy, no matter what. Dragonslayers: There's many a one on Prime or elsewhere who would love to hang Dio's skull over their door. Enemies: Leroy's family has been overthrowing, destroying and exiling the rulers of universes across the omniverse to gather followers to Earth-2. Earth-Prime is much less protected. Foundations of Stone: Dio grows increasingly frightened the longer he has to be on shifting or uncertain ground, eventually growing into a total panic. Responsibility: Taking care of Leroy is a part-time job with enormous implications, not helped by him having his own powers and ideas. 9. Very much down for a high-stakes zero-consequences Silver Age story, featuring your Dalir and my Mag-Might in a team-up against the terrible Lord Quake.
  10. Sorry to make your time even harder @EternalPhoenix but I thought better of the Damages and changed one to Move Object and the other to Drain Toughness. Added Subtle on the Flight, changed Initiative to Tactics bonus.
  11. OOC thread for this thread. Magical deeds afoot, magical darkness a must! @HGM
  12. March 31st, 11.45PM, 2019 Dressing room, Crown Tower Hotel, 2nd floor ballroom, Emerald City(OR) ITEM: Robbery planned at your show tonight. Be ready. - G The note had been slipped into Dalir's back pocket. It had been printed, not written, and aside from the 'G' there was no indication who had made the white card with grey text. In the press and crush of the crowd milling in the lobby, anyone could have done it, and people touching his butt on the sly was an all too common occurrence. Still, there was an audience on the other side of the door, and an announcer hyping the audience, and a world of stress on the shoulders of the announcer hyping the audience on the other side of the door.
  13. There was much ooh-ing and ah-ing over the miniature Earths, and Leroy's Earth-2 friends were all too eager to press gifts of their own on the party as a whole, and it brought Leroy to the verge of tears persuading them that it wasn't necessary and they really needed to be on their way. Dio paddled alongside them as they moved to a quieter stretch of beach. Beside them emerged the cracked and buckled basin in which Littlesea was set, carvén with the blurry remnants of ancient revelers. Out to sea, the water rocked and hilled as the coils of a giant serpent hurtled in and out, carrying a line of screaming, gleeful children and their parents back underwater, everyone strapped into seats bound to the leviathan's back. "That was terrifying. Yet we survived." Leroy said solemnly, turning the tail of an angry eye to his dragon when he snickered, "What shall we do? There is a public listing of the False Summer events, or we could simply tour the planets?"
  14. "Oh thank you, good Davyd, that is marvelous!" Clapping heartily at the sight, Leroy beamed from ear to ear. The horrific monstrosity seemed to engender a childlike glee in him more than anything else. Rolling closer on the chair, he studied the duplicated features of his squadmate with care. "It is awe-inspiring," he declared with a warm smile at the other boy, "and your senses, they are also duplicated, it seems. This demands further study! I will do my part for this, Davyd." On the table, Dio suddenly jerked awake, licking a strand of metallic goo from his lips as he scrabbled 'round onto his front. He blinked at the new surroundings, and the new faces. "Welcome back, sleepyhead," Leroy nudged him in the ribs, provoking a playful snap and a snort from the dragon, "we shall be arriving shortly, they have a gate at the edge of the system. A ribbonwell network, it seems. So you shall have your natural travel after all!" "The Binder's claw is on all things, though Her work is seldom known. I heard something about 'precursors', these some relation to the Architects? There's been a bunch of traces of the same ancient, hyper-advanced civilization in many universes. Nothing like a complete picture, though." Shaking himself as he stretched, the table groaning faintly under him, the green dragon settled into a sphinx-like position, serpentine neck coiling to look back at Seresk and Paradigm. "I'll fit on the station, right? And where's this gate I'm hearing about?"
  15. "You know best, of course," Leroy admitted with a sigh, "yet there must be some way I can be less of a liability. If you would instruct me in how to resist such powers as yours, to attain greater mental toughness, I would be set much at ease." Glancing down the hallways, he added "And...well, sometimes we have...problems. Many of the customs here are opaque or assumed, so I must contend not only with my ignorance of what a woman expects from a man here, but the absence of warnings that such gaps exist. I have tried to educate myself, but the going is slow and the direction frequently murky." He frowned "And please, never apologize to me. You based your impressions on what I said and did. These impressions were, at the time, wholly accurate." Leroy inclined his head politely. "Is there anything you would have of me, Beaumont?"
  16. "Crystal clear, Dee." Smiling shyly, the taller boy lifted the veil from his face started to reach out before arresting himself. "Soft, not hard light. These are still so rare on Prime. What is the cause of this pleasant surprise? Your faithful companion was very strict about this place. Has something happened?" Tamping down lines of earnest worry on his face, Leroy glanced back at the distant sound of the thunderous splashes and laughter. "Night and Benicio, I expect. They will raise a riot in this tower." Turning back to Judy, he watched her face attentively. --------------------------------------------- "Storm Lord!" Dio swirled around like a cork caught in a whirlpool "Hey, watch it! Some of us have mineral deposits!" Flapping his wings and paddling like a dog, the dragon priest trundled out of the pool to slump on its edge, flicking a forked tongue out at Eira's general direction. "Hey, Ben!" he called over to the shapeshifting sizzlespout, stirring the pool with his pointéd tail, "Got a riddle for you: love to have me, hate to see me, what am I?" his thin lips curled back from his bone-ridge teeth. "One guess!"
  17. "The Colony accelerated travel times for non-essential movements, space-time-distortion-something," Leroy whispered back, too flustered for his usual graceful lilt, "mother got sick of how long it took to get anywhere, 'Blue, set this house in order', she said, Colony and her Hive set to work, and now it does not take seven thousand years to walk down the street. All relative...somehow, so everyone looks to be at the same speed." "None of us warrants keeping an eye on," Dio said, the giant reptile sinking luxuriously into the dazzling sapphire waters, paddling leisurely away from the party, "all the most harmless, inoffensive folks get our speed-up treatment." "Yeah, pretty much," Spethia sighed, looking up at the titanic domes breaking up the otherwise near-endless cityscape, "only the Army of Light and major independents get perfect synchronization with Prime-Time. You can weasel out of the distortion, but unless you like being days behind for everything there's not much use for it." "For example, that old temple stairway? You'd still be on it, maybe until the next morning." Gideon pointed behind the group, and indeed from its base the bone-white pyramid loomed impossibly high, soaring up into the clouds orbiting a central, miniature star. "I think most of us try what it'd be like, but Spethia's right, everything's based around being able to cross New Atlantis and the other Skies in moments. Got its advantages, obviously!" he grinned, "Back on my old Earth, according to Mom, we had to be within walking distance of a water source, and if it dried up we had to look for days for a new one. Now, I can live by White's dome, waaaay over there, and still come here whenever I want!" "Oh yeah! Do you guys know how our volleyball works?" Spethia looked worriedly at the new arrivals, "we got a few different rules, seeing as how many people have powers around here."

    Mars Ultor(OOC)

Battle time! Max's Initiative: 15. Winged Thing From Another Dimension: 14.
  19. GM Robin turned to face the light, and the light saw her. A moment and it had condensed into many staring, faceted eyes. Another and it surged to a flood, a tidal wave of scouring gold that blasted over the stage, over the crowd, over the intersection. Like round, smooth teeth, the light bit this fragment of the world free, and swallowed it. Quickly it appeared and even faster it was gone, dissipating to reveal the all-too familiar sight of Z-Space. "What is this?!" wailed someone, the rest of the crowd too busy staring in goggle-eyed shock to say anything. "Another dimension, my friends!" Max smiled proudly "One that we will be seeing a lot more of in time to holy God people get down!" Mars' Ultio suit snapped out a set of blasters as something winged and shrieking rocketed out of the sky! "Rob! Flight pack! I'll cover us from the ground!" he bellowed.
  20. Leroy nodded. "Yes, that is what I would ask of you and those are the attendant risks. Every surgery is fraught with such, yet if done correctly the patient is healthier and a greater danger is averted." For a moment he looked down at her, and Louise felt the same faint unease in him he always exuded whenever he was taller than someone. More important, he seemed to genuinely struggle with his words. "You...Beaumont, it would be a sin to lie: you think little of me. That I am weak, foolish. There we are in accord. My childhood...what is that? Who I was before, that was foam upon a wave that is now long past. Since we met, Judy has...she has made me better. Shown me how to be worthy. Shown me what strength is! All of you have. It is to be cherished a thousand times over a life of meaningless, futile, jejune escapades." His handsome face clouded "And daily I grow to wonder if it happened at all. Your memories, some are sharp, some are dull, they are trace'd about emotional and sensory impacts. I have listened, and know this to be true. They are jagged things. Mine are smooth, precise, like nails. Beaumont, there are hours when all that existed seems a meticulous fiction, and the slightest brush with reality introduces a maze of contradictions leading everywhere but to where my mind will follow!" He took a breath, squared himself. His bright, charming smile returned, his golden eyes sparkling. "You are worthy of this trust. If you accept it, I will be grateful. If you refuse and counsel otherwise, I shall bow to your wisdom in these matters."
  21. Bidding a cheerful farewell to the rest of the little band, Leroy led Louise to a hallway, where he faced her solemnly. "Beaumont, let us be frank: I cannot keep secrets unless I do not know them. Both of us know the secrets of two fellow students, which must remain unknown lest they be imperiled. I am the weak link in this chain and you, Beaumont, are ably suited to ensuring my breaking does no hurt. "Our minds are built on connections. I ask that you, over whatever time it takes, tie this shared secret to one that will, under the sligtest strain, collapse and take everything bound to it into oblivion. "I ask much of you, I know, yet I know this is within your power and your skill. And that it is the right and best thing to do."
  22. Leroy rose, eyeing the Bluebird uncertainly. "I am he. Um. I just sent the form in yestreday, are there other Parhelions?" He paused, and suddenly turned to Adhira. "I-" he struggled with it for a moment, "-I could hear that. I was barely a few feet distant. If you wanted to ask, please do just ask, I am sorry for my behaviour, this is supposed to be a happy time and I am sorry that I have not better self-control. I said something stupid to a young lady I am very in love with and she said...it does not matter what, I was wrong and beg your pardon for my childish display and poor mouth. You are the Verglass, I have read your work, what little I understood was brilliant, you are brilliant. I wish I could be like you. That is everything, really." He paused again "Thank you for what you said about me sparkling, I worked very hard on this outfit. Yours is much better." He turned back to the Bluebird. "I beg your pardon, kind and faithful intelligence, where were we?"
  23. C/W: the language Leroy blinked at Mia. "I said...I will take your word, Squad Leader, I do tend to forget myself a little, from time to time!" he laughed to lighten the mood, racing down the steps to the cradled sea. Trekking down the slope to the shore was the first of many encounters with a peculiar problem: it was nearly impossible to judge distance. What seemed like an endless line of steps running to sand miles away concealed a distance closed in less than a minute, the golden granules of crumbled stone whispering beneath the feet of the humans, crunching and hissing under the clumsy tread of the young dragon. If the world above was stark, bewildering and fraught with the sharp edges of metal and crystal, the world here was weathered and softened, flowing stone, earth and water. Everywhere on the sand, people young and old were dancing, running, playing, the few sitting still up on the stone basin enclosing the small sea. As the party approached, some of the revelers caught sight of them. Most simply smiled and waved, shouting greetings above the crowd and surf. Two teenagers, a girl and a boy, raced over from a volleyball net. "Li!" shouted the girl, her pale, sunburned face aglow and stubby black curls bouncing, "So good to see you again! Are these the Primers? Whoa, they look tough!" she whistled admiringly at Eira. "I'll say!" the darker, lean blond boy beside her grinned, "you can feel the psi-waves off of that one," he nodded respectfully to Louise, adding "I'm a psikon myself, miss. Li, would you introduce us?" Leroy clapped his hands "Oh, yes! these are my nursemates, Gideon and Spethia! Eon, 'Thia, these are my commanding officer Mia and my comrades at arms, Eira, Louise, Davyd! We are here for the False Summer Lights!" "Oh fuck yeah!" Spethia slammed one fist into her palm with a report like a gunshot, one the Claremonters felt through the ground, "I thought when you broke my and everyone's hearts with that 'I have a fiancee' stuff, that you'd only come back for the wedding! Let's have some fun!" Leroy looked momentarily panicky. "'Thia, you are my friend, but I have never felt that way about yo-" "We'll catch up later, Li! But first, volleyball!" Gideon spun the ball in question on his finger, silvery eyes alight, "We're having trouble finding two solid groups, Li. Hills around Littlesea are kind of busy, if you know what I mean. What about you folks? wanna play? Toughies on one side, blasties on the other?" he hazarded, with another winning smile directed at Louise.
  24. "I will not," Leroy admitted, looking longingly at the snack table, "I do not eat or drink, yet I am grateful for the offer. Please, extend my thanks to our glorious hostess. This is beyond what we can repay." Bowing politely to Bluebird, the tall boy in the white robes wandered over to the pool. His hair had been piled up on his head, a thin circlet embedded in it dangling a fine-mesh white veil in front of his pensive face. As ever, he outright sparkled in the light, this time from a fine golden dust on his dark skin. His robe, soft cotton, was white as snow to a casual glance, but a closer look revealed shifting greys and glints of light, revealing that it projected the view of the clouds of some other world. His sandals were plain brown leather, without an inch of heel. "Hullo." he muttered softly to Verglass, sitting gingerly apart from where Benicio had splashed. Almost immediately he lapsed into silence, watching gloomily as his green dragon floated belly-up, hissing with pleasure as his tail propelled him like a scaled torpedo across the lengths.
