  1. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2639068/ Drifter has -2 defenses until the beginning of his next turn.
  2. Carter didn't know what the magician did to the gun, but he was going to seize the opportunity before one of the knife wielding thugs had the chance to try their weapons instead. He rushed the closest thug, swinging for his stomach with his baton. Hopefully, they would move from trying to keep a hostage to attacking him.
  3. Shiroikaze looked between the two women as they spoke in their own language. He caught a work here and there, but not enough to get the whole meaning. Still, he could tell that the smaller of the two women was confused. When the woman addressed him again in Japanese, he straightened up, bowing to her. "" He turned to the other woman. "I am Maeda Katashi. Shiroikaze." He looked around for a second, before continuing. "" He remembered what the traders had told him, doing a quick calculation in his head. "" He nodded to Fusion when she offered him a ride. ""

  6. Hidden on the nearby rooftops, a separate investigation was also taking place. The masked vigilante known as the Drifter had traced a recent drug bust of his own out to Southside, and while it was a bit outside of his usual stomping grounds, he decided to follow up on it. The dealers weren't as independent as he had thought to begin with. He had watched this particular area for a few days now. He had wondered if the vagrant he had seen there was related to it, but dismissed the thought; if anything, he was a user. He was more interested in the three talking to the young man. This might be the break he was looking for. He drew his grapple gun, prepping it and looking for a good spot to shoot for above them. He just needed to see the product, and he could make his move. Quick drop in, catch them off guard, grill one for his supplier. This works out, I can begin working up the chain. He fired off his grapple gun, wrapping around a sturdy looking flagpole before leaping off, swinging down towards the group. Carter didn't know what her deal was, but she looked like she could use a little backup regardless. He landed solidly behind the thugs in a crouch before rearing to his full height. "Evening, gentlemen. I think we need to have a little chat."
  7. The drug trade is one of Drifter's main targets, so he's definitely get involved if he got wind of it. He'd leave the lecturing part to others, though.
  8. Katashi narrowed his eyes slightly. "" He shoved his scabbard back in his belt, tightening it so that it holds in position. His wakizashi and bow were still in place. He was well enough to continue. ""
  9. Katashi was beginning to panic slightly, and he raised his sword into a guard position when the woman began to approach him. However, he stopped himself right after. If this was some kind of illusion meant to trick him, anger and rashness wasn't the way to pierce it. He had to clear his mind. Taking a deep breath, he willed his mind to calm, though confusion continued to gnaw at his thoughts. With a deliberately slow motion, he sheathed his blade, standing up as straight as his injuries would allow. "English?" He remembered, that was the language the traders who visited his father's estate had spoken. Katashi had learned some basics of the language, but that had been years ago. It seemed that the sorcerer had escaped to their lands, though the descriptions they had given did it little justice, it seemed. "Little." At the sound of a person landing behind him, his hand fell to the hilt of his blade again, though when he turned, he did not see what he expected. He couldn't help but to gape at the tentacled woman wearing an even more ridiculous get-up than every one else he had seen swung down from one of the buildings. It took him a moment before he realized something. "" Forgetting to be weirded out for a second, Shiroikaze turned, imploring the woman. "" A particularly loud horn caused Katashi to wince. He looked a little sheepish as he continued. "" Turning and limping towards the sidewalk, the crowd parted to allow him to pass. Now that there was someone who could speak his tongue, perhaps he could get some answers.
  10. The Japanese countryside: 16th Century "Foolish samurai! You will never defeat me! This is not over!" The sorcerer turned, chanting in a strange language. His remaining golem henchmen filed in front of the altar, intending to protect him to the last. Shiroikaze, injured and exhausted from the fight didn't know what he was planning to do, but he suspected he didn't want to know. Raising his blade high, he waded into the crowd, slashing left and right as he tried to wade through. They began to press in, threatening to crush the swordsman with their bulk. As this continued, the sorcerer continued chanting, and a portal, sickening green in color, began to open in the air. Finally, with a mighty leap, Katashi cleared the crowd just before he could be smashed, landing on the altar. But he was too late. The portal was open, and his foe fleeing through it. There was no other option now. Sheathing his blade, he charged ahead, running through the portal. As soon as his feet left the ground, he could feel himself falling, and falling, seemingly into nothingness. He attempted to hold on, but eventually, the force was too much for him. He felt himself fade into nothingness as he blacked out... Freedom City: Present day Katashi was no stranger to rough awakenings, but impacting into the ground onto stone was up there on the list. He rolled a good 30 feet before skidding to a stop face down on the ground. He groaned softly, his hand groping across the ground for his sword. "" His hand fell onto the hilt, and he gripped it tightly, using it to prop himself up. Feeling more certain that he would keep his consciousness, he opened his eyes. What he saw was a shock, to say the least. Buildings stretched into the sky, large metal...things lined roads paved with what looked like some kind of stone, and so much noise! He looked around in shock at the people who surrounded him. This must be some kind of illusion, created to throw him off the trail. "" The people looked about themselves, fear on their face. It seemed that none of them understood his words.
  11. Character Name: Shiroikaze Power Level: 10 (150/150PP) Trade-Offs: None Unspent PP: 0 Gold Status: 0/30 In Brief: Time-displaced swordsman fighting for honor in an era not his own. Alternate Identities: Katashi Maeda Identity: Public Birthplace: Kyoto, Japan Occupation: None Affiliations: None Family: None Age: 18 (D.O.B. 02/20/1540) Gender: Male Ethnicity: Japanese Height: 5'8" Weight: 140 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Description: Katashi is almost the picture-perfect example of a young samurai from the Sengoku period. He is shorter than one might expect for a hero of a modern day and age, though his build is lean and powerful for his size. He is often clad in simple clothing of his period, eschewing the use of armor that one might expect of a samurai. His long black hair is usually tied in a simple topknot or bun on the top of his head. He is open as to his identity as the Shiroikaze, and does not attempt to hide himself or his identity; to do so would be a breach of his code. History: Katashi was born the youngest son of a minor family at the tail-end of the Warring States period of Japan. With little expected or asked of him, Katashi devoted himself to martial training, becoming a skilled wielder of blade and bow by the time he was considered of age and given his first weapons. Supporters of Oda's attempt to unify Japan under one Shogunate, he and his family fought in many battles. Even at a young age, he distinguished himself in battle, defeating samurai much more experienced than him. However, he always felt there was something more than battle. He reasoned that this is why he fought for the Oda; to end the wars that tore the land apart, so there would be no need for fighting anymore. However, wounded and alone after one battle when he was 16, he came upon a small blacksmith's shop, worked by one old man. The old man tended to the samurai, while telling him of his life's work. The man was forging a blade, he said, that would rival Kusanagi, the blade of Susanoo himself. Young and impressionable, Katashi was intrigued by the old man's boast, and offered to assist him if he could wield the completed sword. For a year, they worked on the blade, and when it was finally finished, the man performed a ritual, binding a non-sentient spirit of wind to the blade. When he took up the sword, Katashi could feel its power. At the old man's insistence, he vowed to only use the blade to protect, and never to seize power for himself. Katashi swore the oath, binding his honor and life as a samurai to the blade. For some time, Katashi wandered the land, fighting injustice wherever he found it. He was considered ronin now, but he finally found a peace he had never known in his heart. However, he would come to challenge a powerful sorcerer, who was enthralling people to his will. They fought to a draw, but before the fight could continue, the man ripped open a portal, fleeing into it. Without a second thought, Katashi followed. However, this was not a portal in space, but in time. Katashi found himself in a land he could not understand; Freedom City USA, 2010. Personality & Motivation: Despite the image of the samurai as a stoic warrior in the modern era, Katashi is actually a bit of a joker at times, though his humor tends towards the dry side of things. He is trained in the skills of court as well as the blade, and when he puts his mind to it he can be quite persuasive or charming. He is an educated warrior, and as such is rather more clever and intuitive than one might expect. He is a true warrior-poet, and sees his culture as something a lot of his foes lack. He is especially fond of poetry and oration, and has devoted time to honing those crafts as well. That said, he is devoted to the pursuit of justice and the defeat of evil above all else, and is quite serious about that if nothing else. He is self-sacrificing in this goal, and will gladly give of himself to protect the innocent and powerless. He sees the blade choosing him as a blessing to be earned and thanked for at all times, and tries to live up to the responsibility he sees in it. He is attempting to find a way back to his old time, though he will not return until he finds and defeats his foe from the past. He no longer takes lives unless there is no other choice, and will spare his opponents. As such, he strikes to wound, not kill. Powers & Tactics: Shiroikaze is blessed with the Kaze no Hane, a blade forged with the power of a wind kami. In addition to the power this spirit grants the blade itself, it grants Katashi a portion of its strength and speed as well, and allows him to move like the wind should he wish. It even allows him limited control of the air itself, though the only trick he has learned so far is to allow himself to breath as long as he holds the sword, no matter what. Katashi has not wielded the blade for long, and has not completely bonded with it yet; there is yet more power in the blade that can be unlocked. He is a follower of a code, and as such will not strike an opponent unaware or attempt to use what he sees as trickery. However, he is not so blind as to think that his opponents will be following the same code, and is always on the lookout for such tactics in combat. Though he is himself a skilled swordsman and passable archer in his own right, a good portion of his power as a warrior comes from the blade. As such, if it is lost or taken, his first priority is to recover it. Beyond that, his strategy is straight-forward; challenge the most formidable opponent he can find and fight until either they or he falls, repeated until there are no foes left. Complications: Extremely Poor English (Katashi's knowledge of English is very limited for his period, to say nothing of the modern form of the language. He knows a little, but is nowhere near conversant) Honor (Katashi's code of honor, known in the modern age as bushido, has been drilled into him from youth. 12. That was the impression I was given in the Chat, DokA. I changed it to Mechanical.
  13. His first thread is literally going to be him dropping onto the streets of Freedom, so yeah. Which reminds me, the wealth drawback would probably be appropriate for him.

  15. Just wanted to see if this was still open; coming up for a reason for Carter to be there would be easy. I just didn't want to butt in if you were full or what's going on is out of his league.
  16. Carter didn't notice as he leaned in slightly, waiting for Wander to tell the story she was launching into. He looked up as the wails of sirens interrupted her, feeling a twinge of disappointment. "Yeah, I should probably bail too. Cops aren't too fond of vigilante types like me. Guess they don't like us unregistered guys or whatever doing their jobs?" He walked back to the second door, opening it so that the drugs were easy to find. He turned to Wander again. "I'd like that. Just kind of be around. If they're anything like you, I'm guessing they'll be easy to find, yeah?" Carter walked over to a side window, preparing to open it, before pausing. "...Hey, I know you're probably way out of my league when a fight breaks out. But if you guys need a bloodhound, just come find me. I might be able to help out or something." Opening a window, Carter removed his grapple gun from his belt. Nodding to Wander, he clamored out through the window, firing the gun and wrapping it around the nearest light pole. He was up and gone, running along the tops of the abandoned train cars away from the scene. Despite how sore he was, a smile played on his lips. This was a good night, no question.
  17. Drifter shrugged. "I'm small time, and there's not a lot of capes in this part of town. Most of them don't go looking for the kinds of things I go looking for...no offense, of course. I don't really move in those circles, I guess. So no, you're the first. Like I said, this is pretty cool." Carter shifted forward on his box, sitting on the edge. "I don't really go looking for them, though. I figure they've got bigger things to worry about than me. I get by ok. Only had to stitch myself up a couple times, yeah?" Carter smiled under his mask. "But I'm not really interesting. I'm more interested in the kinds of things you do. You've got to have some kind of stories, right?"
  18. Agent A

    The Drifter

Introduction Who are you? Sum yourself up in one sentence. Does 'an idiot' count? Really, I'm just a guy who does the jobs the big capes and the cops can't. Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, or nom de plume? The papers call me "Drifter". It stuck. I kind of like it, though. What is your full birth name? Carter Andrew Washington Where do you live? Freedom City, in Greenbank. How old are you? What year were you born (if applicable)? I'm 19. Birthday is April 1, 1991. And yes, I get fool jokes all the time. Physical Traits What is your gender? If not applicable, please explain. Male How would you describe your heritage? Heritage? Pretty bad. My parents weren't exactly very good at parenting. I didn't know the rest of the family. Don't much care to, to be honest. How tall are you? 6 feet, almost on the dot. What is your body type? I'm pretty wiry. Kind of "tall Bruce Lee", as I like to say. I have a killer workout plan, it turns out. Do you have any particular weaknesses, such as allergies or physical disabilities? Well, I have pretty bad hayfever sometimes. Does that count? How do you carry yourself? Are you graceful, or heavy on your feet? Can you be stealthy, do you walk with confidence? I can do the graceful thing, though I mostly keep it short and powerful. I'm getting good at sneaking up on guys. As for confidence...well, I can fake it pretty well, at least. Describe your skin, eye, and hair color. I'm not super dark, though I'm not really light-skinned either. I'm kind of middle of the road when it comes to black, I guess. Eyes are brown and hair is black, nothing special there. How do you wear your hair, if applicable? Do you have facial hair? I keep it short, though it can be awhile between haircuts from time to time. I usually keep my face shaved. Do you consider yourself attractive? Do others? I guess I'm ok. I don't really have the time for the whole "dating" thing, so I don't know how I do with the ladies too well. Do you have any scars, tattoos, piercings, or birthmarks? Besides a couple knicks and cuts here and there, nothing too distinctive. Do you resemble anyone famous? Nah. Do you have a dominant hand? Right. What kind of clothing do you wear? Simple stuff, mostly thrift store wear. I've got a tie for when I do office work for the temp agency, and that's about as dressy as I get. Do you wear makeup? What? No. Seriously? What is your vocal range? Is your voice distinctive in some way? I can fake voices pretty well. I do what I call a "hero-voice". Low and growly, you know. Though my voice is pretty deep anyway. Do you have any distinctive habits, nervous tics, or mannerisms? Where did they come from, and what causes them? Do other people notice and remark on these habits? Do they annoy you or other people? I usually laugh to cover up nervousness. Pretty much any time I rapid-fire jokes is like that too. History Where do you come from? Freedom City, born and sort-of raised. Have you made any major moves, or do you live in your hometown? Nope, been here all my life. Do you feel loyal to your country of citizenship? Do you consider yourself patriotic? How do you feel about the government of your country? I'd say I'm middling patriotic. That said, the government usually has a few flaws in it no matter what the administration, but there you go. How do you feel about the place you come from? It's a fairly good town, as things go. It's got some problems, but every town does. Can't think of a place I'd rather live. Where is your home town? What was/is it like? Well, I live in Greenbank still. It's pretty much the crappy part of town. Lots of crime; gangs, the mob, even an occasional super from time to time. That said, there's a lot of good people here, too. Growing up, were most of the people you knew similar to you, or were you somehow a minority? How did that affect you? Well, being black and living on the streets wasn't exactly easy. I like to think it toughened me up a little, but it's sad that it still happens in this day and age. Is there something you've always been really good at or really bad at? How has that affected your life? I'm usually pretty good at what I put my mind to. I wouldn't say I'm really good or really bad at anything. I guess that's sort of a strength? Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age)? Hoo boy, here we go. My father confused drinking heavily and hitting me with whatever was handy was a good substitute for an upbringing. My mother was too out of it on whatever she was taking at the time to remember I existed after she gave birth to me. Around about age 15, I ran away, and they didn't bother looking. So I lived on the street until I was 18 and social services wouldn't just send me back home. Around that time was when I went crazy and started putting on a mask and fighting crime. I'm getting it together now; I've got assisted living and the temp agency I work at has pretty steady jobs for me. I get by. Briefly describe a defining moment in your childhood and how it influenced your life. I guess adolescence counts? I guess it would be the first mugging I broke up. The lady was screaming, and I knew the hoods might get spooked and try to shut her up. I don't know what came over me, but I just ran in and started swinging. I got the drop on them, and managed to knock the guys out. That's where I got the baton; one of the guys had it. I guess he thought it was fancy. I just wanted something to protect me out on the streets. Of course, then they came looking for me. Led to a nice little one-man gang war, and the rest is history. What stupid things did you do when you were younger? You mean besides putting on a mask and picking fights with criminals? Where did you go to school? How much school did you have, and did you enjoy it? Good old JCHS. I mostly kept to myself, especially after I, you know, left home. Trouble at school meant trying to contact parents, and I didn't want that. It was something I did, I guess. Didn't go to college. Do you have any mementos of your childhood? What are they, and why did you keep them? If you have none, why not? I don't like thinking about my childhood much, for reasons that should be fairly obvious by now. I'm trying to start over as my own man, and I don't need any reminders of what I came from around. When did you decide to become a hero? Why? Did anyone influence you one way or another in the decision? Well, I went through when earlier. Why? I guess I wanted to make a difference. I was told all my life I wouldn't matter, and I guess I wanted to show them up. I wanted to do the right thing. Is the reason you give people for becoming a hero different than your real reason? If so, why? Besides being intentionally vague, not really. Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt you? Not really. I don't have to worry about going home anymore, and I keep my nose clean. I guess my civvie identity is a secret I'm trying to keep. Do you represent yourself as being different from who you really are? Why? Nah. What you see is what you get, usually. I try to play up the scary aspect when I'm doing the hero thing, but that's mostly to get in people's heads. And it's kind of fun. If you do have these secrets, what do you fear would happen if the truth became known? How far would you go to protect those secrets? Try and get on a super-team, I guess. I'm pretty good at what I do, so I might be able to convince someone to take me on. If that fails, sleep with one eye open. Do you have any sort of criminal record? If so, is it public knowledge? Nope. Family What are your biological parents' names? John Washington and Danisha Hardaway Were you raised by them? If not, please explain and describe who raised you. If you could call it "raising", yes. What was their standing in the community? What did/do they do for a living? They both managed to hold down some kind of job fairly regularly. What that job was changed from time to time. Where are your parents now? Probably still in their respective apartments. Don't know, and don't care to know. Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot? I went back and forth, but they both stayed in Greenbank, so it wasn't too much of a move. How did you get along with their parents? How do you get along with them now (if applicable). I think it's abundantly clear by now, but we didn't exactly see eye to eye. How do your parents view you now, or how would they? I doubt they would care enough to have an opinion. Do you have any siblings? If so how many and what are their names? Describe your relationship with them. Nope, I was an only child. What was your birth order in the family? John, Danisha, Carter Do you love or hate one member of the family in particular? I'm not fond of my parents. I didn't really meet any other family members. Is any member of the family special to you in any way (perhaps, as a confidant, mentor, or arch-rival)? Nope. Are there any black (or white) sheep in the family (including you)? If so, please explain. Compared to my parents, I'm a saint. I guess that makes me the black sheep. Do you have a notorious or celebrated ancestor? If so, please explain, including how it has affected your life. Not that I know of. Do you have a partner and children currently? If so, please describe them. No. If you do not have a partner or children, do you want them someday? How firm are you in your opinion on this, and what might change your mind? Maybe. I'm not exactly in a position to have either right now for a variety of reasons. I wouldn't mind having a kid some day, and I would make sure I raised him right. But I don't see it happening in this lifetime. What type of person would be your ideal mate? If I had a girl who couldn't keep up with my jokes, I'd probably go insane. Beyond that, I'm not too discriminatory; beautiful women come in all different colors, you know. Relationships Do you have any close friends? If so, please describe them, and how you came to be close to them. Not really. I don't have much of a social life. Do you have a best friend? If so, how did they become your best friend? How close are you to your best friend? See above. If you were to go missing, who would worry about you? Probably no one. Wow, that's kind of depressing. Have you lost any loves? If so, how did it happen, and what did you do? Not really. Do you have any bitter enemies? If so, please describe them and their history with you. Well, in the mask I've got the mob and a lot of the gangs in Greenbank and beyond. I bust up their business, and they want me dead. A refreshingly simple relationship. If you have enemies, how do you think they might attempt to work against you in the future? I doubt it'll get more complicated than them just trying to kill me. What is the worst thing someone has done to you? I've been stabbed a couple times. I don't know if that counts. Where do your loyalties lie? In what order? I mostly look out for people who can't really defend themselves. Who or what do you trust the most? Why? Myself. Again, a little depressing, but I'm the only person who has ever come through for me. Who or what do you despise? Why? Anyone who kicks someone littler than them, metaphorically or physically. I've seen it too many times, and I'm tired of letting it happen. What qualities do you admire most in other people? Are these qualities you possess? Tenacity, and cleverness. I like to think I've got at least a little of both. What qualities do you hate most in other people? Do you have any of those qualities? Greed, and undue pride. I try to keep myself from falling into both. Do you have a secret identity? If so, who knows it? Do you hide it from people who are close to you? Why? Yup, that would be Drifter. No one really knows about it. I keep to myself, really. Do you work well on teams and in groups? Are you a leader or a follower? Don't really know, I've never worked on a team. I'd feel weird trying to lead people with powers, though. What would I do? Are you on a super team? If so, how do you get along with your comrades? Do you trust them, or do you have secrets from them? Nope. Are you a member of any church, fraternal organization, club, committee, political party, or other group? How much time do you spend on that? Used to go to church every now and again, but I mostly keep to myself now. Personality & Beliefs Who are your heroes? I grew up reading about all the superheroes in town. I guess I looked up to them. Especially Foreshadow. He cleaned up the Southside. I kind of wished I would be doing that some day. And then I just kind of stumbled into it. Funny how things work out. Did you ever become disillusioned with former heroes or idols? If so, why and what were the circumstances? I guess not. I'm trying to be like them still, I suppose. Whether I'm succeeding or not is another story, I guess. Do you like being a hero? If so, what is the most rewarding part? If not, what makes you keep doing it? I guess so. I don't like waking up with a different set of aches every morning, I suppose. But someone's got to go to bat for Greenbank, and it might as well be me. Is there anything that would make you give up hero work, or even switch sides? I'm going until I can't go anymore, I think. And I couldn't see myself working for the other team, even if I wanted. People always said I would turn out to be a criminal, and I'm not looking to prove them right. What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a year)? Pull down a regular job. What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years from now)? Considering my idea of leisure time, I'd be happy to live that long. What is your greatest fear? Why? What do you do when something triggers this fear? Becoming my father. I might be just as broken as he is, but I'm going to at least be broken in a useful way. Is there anything you would give you life for? If I had to trade my life to save another, I think I would. It's just how I'm wired, I guess. How do you feel about money and material wealth? Do you desire it or disdain it? Are you miserly with what you have, or do you like to share? Is it a mark of success, or a means to an end? Well, I would like to have more money than I do right now, but I don't covet it too much, I guess. Living comfortably would be enough for me. How do you generally treat others? I try to be a nice guy. I'm told I can be a bit of a flirt, but I dunno. I just like to tell jokes. Are you a trusting person? Has your trust ever been abused? I guess not. I don't really have anyone to trust with my secrets even if I wanted to. Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? Do you have a lot of self-confidence? I'd say I'm extroverted. Self-confidence...I try. I have some misgivings just like everyone else about what I can do, I guess. How do you act around attractive, available members of your preferred sex? I'm a flirt, or so I'm told. It's all in good fun, really; I couldn't hold down a relationship even if I wanted to. What are your most annoying habits? Probably trying to inject humor in serious situations. I guess it's how I deal with things, but not everyone likes it. Do you feel contempt for any general category of people? Who are they, and why? Criminals, gangsters, and in general people who think they can prey on others just because they're scared or weaker than them. I've seen it all my life, and as soon as someone stands up to them, they fold. It just takes one, and that one might as well be me. What is your favorite food? Do you prefer any particular type of food? Do you take the time to enjoy your food, or do you eat as fast as you can? Peanut Butter Captain Crunch, definately. I could eat it three meals a day. Honestly, though, I'm not picky. What is your favorite drink (alcoholic or otherwise)? I try to stick to water; it's better for you. What is your favorite treat (dessert)? German chocolate cake, or anything with coconut in general. Are there any specific foodstuffs that you find disgusting or refuse to eat? Like I said, not picky. If it's edible, I'm in. What is your favorite color? Are there any colors you dislike? I'm fond of dark blues, but I don't really have a color I dislike enough for it to be a problem or anything. What sort of music do you like? Is there any that you hate? I don't listen to a lot of music, really. I'm not a musical guy. If you have a favorite scent, what is it? Never really thought about it. Do you have a favorite animal? Tigers are pretty sweet. What is your most treasured possession? Why? Does my grapple gun count? That thing is useful; I'm going to be sad when it breaks. Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts? I don't have too many creature comforts to begin with, so I guess roughing it is how I normally do things. Is there a job or a task you would absolutely refuse to do? I don't know, really. I don't like to do anything too overtly illegal. Besides, you know, the vigilantism. Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? If so, how do your beliefs affect your life? How important is it to you? I used to be. Not so much anymore, though. I guess I'm a Christian, but I'm not exactly devout. Was your faith influenced or molded by anyone special? Not in a good way. If you belong to a religious organization, how often do you attend? Do you have a specific place of worship, or friends within the organization? How much do you agree with the beliefs of your organization? I don't go to church anymore. Could you kill? Have you killed? If I had to to save lives...I don't know. I never had to make that choice, and I hope I never do. What circumstances led to you forming that conviction, or taking that action? People always figured I would be a criminal. I guess they're technically right, but I'm going to do some good with it. Are there circumstances under which you believe it is permissible to kill? What are they? If it came down to blood on my hands or innocent lives being lost, I might pull the trigger. I don't know. How would you react to watching someone kill another person? Would your reaction be different if the killer was a friend or an enemy of yours? I guess it depends. If it wasn't justified somehow, I'd have to try and bring them down. No matter who they were. How would you react if something important was stolen from you? I'd go and get it back. How would you react to public humiliation? Play it off and deal, I guess. How would you react if a good friend or relative were purposely or accidentally killed? Has it happened to you? I'd find who did it and bring them to justice. Thankfully, it's never happened to me yet. I hope it never does. What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why? Murder and rape are up there. Taking something that can't be replaced. If your life were to end in 24 hours, what five things would you do in those remaining hours? 1. Watch TV for 5 hours 2. Take a long bath 3. Eat a whole box of Captain Crunch 4. Rock out 5. Go to sleep Career & Training Do you have any special training in your hero skills? If so, where and how did you get it? Nope; self-taught. Who taught you the most about your heroing abilities? What was your relationship with that person? I guess Foreshadow, though I never met the guy. I just kind of try and follow his lead. He's way better at it than me, though. Do you have any particularly unusual skills? How did you acquire them? I'm pretty good in a fight now. I mostly picked that up the hard way. Do you do something besides hero work for a living? Have you ever done anything else, or do you plan to? I work at a temp agency. Some kind of solid living would be nice, but it pays the bills. What is your preferred combat style? I'm a street fighter, and not like Ryu is. I do what works. Have you ever received any awards or honours? Nope. What skill areas would you like most to improve in? Is there anything you can't do that you wish desperately you could? I'd like to become a better detective. Having powers would be a big help, but I'm good with what I got. How do you act around people who are more skilled than you in areas you'd like to improve? Are you jealous, or do you try and learn? I have a tendency to fanboy out a bit, but I try to learn what I can. Lifestyle & Hobbies What is a normal day for you? How do you feel when something interrupts this routine? Wake up, work, come home, hero time. It's pretty simple, so it's never really thrown off. Do you have any hobbies, or interests outside hero work? What are they, and where did you pick them up? ...I guess not. That's kind of sad. What do you do for fun? Hero-ing, I guess. I don't do much else. Do you have a costume? What does it look like? Not really. I just wear what works, and a bandanna over my face. How do you normally dress when not in costume? Depends on what job I'm doing for the temp agency that day. What do you wear to bed most nights? I'm a boxers kind of guy. Do you wear any special jewelry? What is it, and what does it look like? Nope. Do you have a special place where you keep your valuables? I hide money under the mattress. What's your preferred means of local travel? How about long distance? In-costume, the grapple. Out of it, I walk or take the bus. Miscellaneous Have you ever made a will, or tried to make arrangements for your death? What provisions did you make? I don't have much. I guess what didn't go to the state would go to my parents. Not that they would care. If your features were to be destroyed beyond recognition, is there any other way of identifying your body? I guess not. Maybe I should get something like that. What would you like to be remembered for after your death? I just hope people say I was an alright dude. Do you believe you pose a threat to the public? Why or why not? Dude, if I tried to start trouble, there's a good number of people in this town that can smack me down easy. What do you perceive as your greatest strength? My ability to keep a cool head. What do you perceive as your greatest weakness? I'm not as tough as some of these supers. As a player, if you could, what advice would you give your character? Speak as if he/she were sitting right here in front of you. Use proper tone so they might heed your advice... "You're better at what you do than you think. Have confidence in yourself."
  19. Carter debated whether he wanted to say how old he was for a moment. He wasn't sure, but he decided at the end it wouldn't hurt. He wasn't the only black guy his age in this city, he wagered. "...Just turned 19 a couple months ago. So yeah, started when I was...15? Sounds right to me. I guess I didn't have the best upbringing?" Carter shook his head when she mentioned police. "I wouldn't cut it as a cop. Besides, someone has to look out for this neighborhood, and I couldn't do that if I was a boy in blue, you know? And the cops don't like Drifter too much." Carter took off his pack, grabbing one of his balanced stones and tossing it to himself as he spoke. "I like what I do. It doesn't make headlines, but I like to think I make a little bit of a difference, you know? It's what keeps me out here every night, I guess. Keep drugs and guns off the street, maybe bust a few gangbangers or mobsters from time to time. There's a lot of good people out here, you know? Most of them are just scared. They need someone to go to bat for them. Might as well be me." Carter smiled under his mask again, shaking his head. "I'm rambling, sorry. I guess I don't get to talk to anyone much. This kind of thing doesn't leave much time for a social life. I guess you can relate, though."
  20. Carter caught Wander's slip, but didn't make a mention of it. He wasn't exactly one who was completely open about himself, either. He adjusted his makeshift mask over his face as he continued to speak. "I know, but still, I'm not like Foreshadow or the Raven. I'm just a guy who got tired of seeing his neighborhood getting messed up." He leaned back on his box, looking around. "Well, I'll give you an example, take a look at this. There's always pushers around, right? Now, normally, they're either mob, or they're with one of the gangs, which usually amounts to the same thing. These guys, they were too small time to be direct for the mob, right? And they don't fly gang colors. So that means they're freelance, but they're moving lots of product into the streets, so they have someone bankrolling them. Probably a small-time capo looking to advance himself quietly using outside help; no proof, but just a guess." Carter jerked a thumb at the smallest of the men in the room. "I see this guy pushing, and I got curious, tail him for a bit; hoping to find his supplier. Turns out they're moving through the train yards. I stake the place out, watch how they operate a couple nights. Then, when I know they've got the stuff, I plan the bust. Honestly, once you learn how to find the leads to begin with, following them is the easy part. And that's just training your eyes to spot them and knowing who to ask." Carter leaned back again. "I've been doing this...4 years now?" Carter shrugged. "Something like that. I learned how to do it the hard way, I guess. Nothing better than real experience to learn what works and what doesn't. A lot less gets away from me now than it used to."
  21. "Oh yeah! I heard of you guys. Well hey, I definitely don't mind professional help watching Greenbank, don't worry. I might get a good night of sleep for once." He looked around when she mentioned their numbers. "Huh? Oh, yeah. You've just got to know where to look to find these guys. I've been watching this place for a while now." He jerked a thumb towards the back room. "This is the night they bring in the new shipments, so we've got plenty of evidence back there." Carter ran a hand over his hair again. "I've been doing this for a few years. I'm getting pretty good at tracking these guys, and I know where to find the info, you know? I keep my ear to the ground around here." He leaned back, looking over the room before turning back to Wander. "I mean, it's nothing like what you guys do, though. Like, those big monsters or whatever? I couldn't do that." Carter stopped himself, chuckling softly. "Sorry, I'm rambling. I've just never met a real hero before, yeah? This made my month."
  22. "I don't know if I'm much of a hero, but I usually stick to Greenbank. Not a lot of people watch out for this neighborhood. I try to do what I can, you know?" Carter made his way up to the switching station, kicking open the door the rest of the way and making his way in. Five men were strewn about the floor, unconscious. Carter tossed the man onto the floor with the rest of them, again taking no pains for his comfort. Taking more rope out of his pack, Carter began to tie the rest of the men up. "Just a small drug operation, nothing big time. Be good to keep it off the streets, at least." Carter made his way around the room, getting the rest of the men before pulling up a box, indicating it for Wander to sit on. "Here you go...Wander, right? Might as well get comfortable." Pulling up another box, Carter sat down, relaxing slightly. He chuckled softly, leaning forward. "This kind of thing is probably way under your league, huh? Best I can give you is a nice break between fighting aliens and super-villains, or whatever you do." He leaned forward, placing an elbow on his knee. "So, you, uh, on one of those teams or anything like that? Like the Freedom League or anything like that?"
  23. Carter couldn't contain his grin when Wander agreed to follow him. He had so many questions he wanted to ask, and was trying to run them through his head when he realized that she had actually asked him one. "Huh? Oh, right. Drifter will work. That's what the papers call me, anyway. I kind of like it; it's a little John Wayne, isn't it?" The thug tried to squirm, causing Carter to look back at him. "Hey! Keep it down back there. I could have hit you with the stick instead of tying you up. Don't make me change my mind." The man seemed to take the advice, and stopped trying to squirm out of his grip. At the entrance to the old trainyards, Carter began to weave his way back, keeping an eye out to the old switching station that the group was using. "So...that was a pretty cool move back there, good that you got there when you did. You can fly, or something? You're stronger than you look, at the very least. Guy here never had a chance." Carter hoped that didn't sound as awkward as it felt saying it, but he wasn't really sure how he was supposed to handle this kind of thing.
  24. It was all Carter could do not to trip and fall as he skidded to a stop in front of the rather abrupt entrance of a third party into the equation. "Holy..." Carter's mouth gaped at the scene in front of him, though it was only partially evident under the bandanna that served as his mask. Recovering quickly, he nodded quickly, his signature smile coming to his face under said mask. "Yup, that one was mind. Next time I ask for a miracle, I'm going to ask for a Porsche and a million dollars, too. Not that you're a bad miracle, mind. More pretty girls should fall on dudes I have to chase." Removing a length of rope from his pack, Carter moved over to kneel next to the man. "I'll take that off your hands." When she moved off of the man, he placed a knee into his back, beginning to hog-tie him. After tying him up, Carter threw him over his shoulder, none too gently, as he stood up. He nodded his head towards the trainyards. "I got a couple more of these guys back there that I better watch until Freedom's finest show up." Carter ran a hand through his hair awkwardly; this was the first honest-to-goodness hero he had met, and he wasn't really sure what to do. "I...wouldn't mind the help watching them, if you've got the time."
  25. It had been a fairly routine thing, or as routine as these kind of things got. Carter had hit a small drug running operation; just the pusher and a few enforcers, nothing too fancy, but he got caught wind of it the last couple nights, and this was the night they would have most of the product in-house from the routine he had picked up on in his stake-out. They were trying to use secrecy in place of real security, and it didn't work out too well for them in the end. Besides a couple punches and a cut or two, Carter had managed to take them out without a good deal of trouble. One of them had tried to leave his friends and run for it, and had made it out of the trainyards and into the streets of Greenbank proper, Carter hot on his heels. This guy must have ran track or something. Carter began to dig deep, breaking into a sprint after the gangbanger. He dug a hand into his pack as best he could without breaking stride, looking for a bola to throw in a last ditch effort to bring him down. Soon, he was going to have to go back and secure the others for when the cops got there...eventually, and let this one go. Hopefully, he could prevent that. Getting the product off the streets was the main goal, but getting these men off the streets was something as well. Carter began to take aim on the move. This was going to take a miracle...
