    Freedom Eagle II

Introduction Who are you? Sum yourself up in one sentence. I'm Freedom Eagle, but newspapers like to call me "the Winged Wonder of Freedom". Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, or nom de plume? Everyone calls me "Wings" for short in costume. I like it actually. What is your full birth name? Jack Carter O'Connor. Where do you live? 1 Pyramid Plaza, 90th Floor, West Penthouse. Can't miss it, it's kind of the fourth tallest building in the world. How old are you? What year were you born (if applicable)? Twenty-six, 1987. Physical Traits What is your gender? If not applicable, please explain. Male. How would you describe your heritage? Black Irish. Pretty hard to mistake black hair, blue eyes, and surnames like "O'Connor" as anything but Irish. How tall are you? I'm about six-foot. What is your body type? I've got solid shoulders and I keep in shape. I'd like to think I look pretty good without a shirt. Do you have any particular weaknesses, such as allergies or physical disabilities? None that any other ordinary guy doesn't already have. How do you carry yourself? Are you graceful, or heavy on your feet? Can you be stealthy, do you walk with confidence? People say I have a bounce in my step. People don't realize it's because I'm light on feet thanks to combat training. I can be a ghost when I feel like it though. Describe your skin, eye, and hair color. How do you wear your hair, if applicable? Do you have facial hair? It's generally pretty neatly groomed: gotta look like the professional CEO. Do you consider yourself attractive? Do others? Not to sound like I'm tooting my own own, but I'm plenty good-looking. I'm too smart not to be aware of it, and not obteuse enough to ignore it. And everybody else likes how I look too, otherwise I wouldn't keep showing up on all those magazines. Do you have any scars, tattoos, piercings, or birthmarks? A lot more scars then people think, and one AEGIS tattoo on my left shoulder. Do you resemble anyone famous? My uncle, obviously. Do you have a dominant hand? I write with my right, but I'm trained to use both. What kind of clothing do you wear? When I'm working, buisness suits, tasteful, usually black or grey. When I'm working, my costume. When I'm at home, whatever I damn well please. Do you wear makeup? Nope. What is your vocal range? Is your voice distinctive in some way? I'm in the middle-range, and I'm distinctively charming. Do you have any distinctive habits, nervous tics, or mannerisms? Where did they come from, and what causes them? Do other people notice and remark on these habits? Do they annoy you or other people? People say I'm too cheerful for a CEO, and I should be more reserved. I say reserved isn't going to keep the public off your back when your stocks plummet and customer relations suck thanks to economic downturns. History Where do you come from? Freedom City, New Jersey (suck it NYC!), born an raised. Have you made any major moves, or do you live in your hometown? Not really. Spent a lot of time in Emerald City awhile back. Nice quiet town, though I hear that's changed recently. How do you feel about the place you come from? I'm Freedom Eagle, my nickname is the Winged Wonder of Freedom, I was born in Freedom City and run Freedom Consoliated. Either I love my hometown or...I really have no imagination at all I guess? Where is your home town? What was/is it like? New Jersey. And it's something else. You have to spend some time here to really understand it. Growing up, were most of the people you knew similar to you, or were you somehow a minority? How did that affect you? Almost everyone I knew was pretty well-off as a kid. I hate feeling like a Silver Spoon, but I guess I am. Is there something you've always been really good at or really bad at? How has that affected your life? It's hard to admit, but I suck at having a normal life. I'm a Mayor's son millionaire CEO genius inventor ex-secret agent superhero. Stuff like relationships and girlfriends and things like that...I never really had a chance to figure all that out. When did you decide to become a hero? Why? Did anyone influence you one way or another in the decision? I knew I wanted to make a difference the day on my parent's funeral. And I knew I wanted to be a superhero when I found Grandpa Mike's costume in the attic. Grandpa Mike was probably the one who most influenced me, and even though Uncle Mike didn't approve, his morals gave me more direction in what I do now then I think he likes to admit. Is the reason you give people for becoming a hero different than your real reason? If so, why? If they know my secret identity, I don't keep it a secret. I'm proud of why I do what I do. Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt you? Uuuuh....AEGIS ex-agent operating standards demands that I not divulge any operational details, past or present, without express permission of my Supervisor and the Director on penalty of Federal charges and possible imprisonment. So um...nope! My secret identity though, is one I'm worried about. Do you represent yourself as being different from who you really are? Why? No, when I'm being me I'm being me. I just make sure not everyone sees every single side of me, so nobody puts Freedom Eagle and Jack O'Connor together. If you do have these secrets, what do you fear would happen if the truth became known? How far would you go to protect those secrets? I'm not just keeping my ID secret for my sake: it's also my Uncle and my Grandpa's associations with me I'm protecting. Do you have any sort of criminal record? If so, is it public knowledge? No I do not. Family What are your biological parents' names? Carter and Sheira. Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age)? ....both of my parents were killed when I was six, during the Terminus Invasion. Briefly describe a defining moment in your childhood and how it influenced your life. We were....driving down the Pramas Bridge, trying to get through traffic to get to Uncle Mike's house, where we hoped it would be safe. These robots...Omegadrones I fought out they were later called, were flying overhead, and they just opened fire with their power-pikes and...one hit near the car car. There was noise and a flash and I was okay, and at first I thought it'd just missed us but...it hit hood, and damaged the engine and the driver's and passengers seat. I don't think they suffered, at least. I hope not anyway. What stupid things did you do when you were younger? Aside from decide to be a superhero? Because let me tell you, nothing shortens your life expectency like choosing to put on a costume. Where did you go to school? How much school did you have, and did you enjoy it? Claremont Academy. I was one of it's original students. Man, I loved it there. I'd visit it sometime, since I'm one of it's first graduating students since it's re-opening, but I'm always so busy. Besides, kid superheros never get along well with adults. It's like...a rule somewhere. Do you have any mementos of your childhood? What are they, and why did you keep them? If you have none, why not? Nothing special. My costume is all the memories I need honestly! Were you raised by them? If not, please explain and describe who raised you. After my parents died, Uncle Mike and Grandpa Mike raised me. Uncle Mike was always campaigning for the city during his early years as Mayor, but Grandpa Mike liked having me around, teaching me about the good old days. What was their standing in the community? What did/do they do for a living? Uncle Mike was the Mayor, and still is. Grandpa is a retired superhero and inventor. Where are your parents now? Uncle Mike is still in office. Probably one of the country's most popular Mayors. Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot? We stuck to Freedom City. How did you get along with their parents? How do you get along with them now (if applicable). I got along really well with Uncle Mike and Grandpa, though relations between me and my uncle got pretty tense when I put on the costume. They've gotten better since then, but sometimes I think he worries way more then he shows. How do your parents view you now, or how would they? I hope they would be proud of me. Do you have any siblings? If so how many and what are their names? Describe your relationship with them. Nope, none. What was your birth order in the family? First and only. Where are your siblings now (if applicable)? Do they have families of their own? What do they do? It's not applicable. Do you stay in touch with them or have you become estranged? See above. Do you love or hate one member of the family in particular? Not really. Grandpa holds a special place in my heart though. Is any member of the family special to you in any way (perhaps, as a confidant, mentor, or arch-rival)? See above. Are there any black (or white) sheep in the family (including you)? If so, please explain. Not that I know of anyway. Maybe I have an evil twin brother? A clone? You can't count anything out in this business, I swear. Do you have a notorious or celebrated ancestor? If so, please explain, including how it has affected your life. My Grandpa was Freedom Eagle before me, and he probably shaped how I see the world more then anyone else around. I try to live up to the example he set every single day. Do you have a partner and children currently? If so, please describe them. Nope. If you do not have a partner or children, do you want them someday? How firm are you in your opinion on this, and what might change your mind? I....don't know. I haven't met anyone I've gotten serious with. My lifestyle isn't really family-friendly honestly. Maybe someday. What type of person would be your ideal mate? Someone who can stand heights. But seriously, I have no idea. Like I said, haven't met anyone yet. Relationships Do you have any close friends? If so, please describe them, and how you came to be close to them. My high school classmates, especially Fletch. Do you have a best friend? If so, how did they become your best friend? How close are you to your best friend? Probably Fletch again, as he's a Golden Age legacy wealthy superhero too. We don't see each other as often, but he's a pal. If you were to go missing, who would worry about you? My uncle, my grandpa. Hopefully my investors. Have you lost any loves? If so, how did it happen, and what did you do? None yet. Do you have any bitter enemies? If so, please describe them and their history with you. Not really. Thankfully all of my grandpa's old enemies are long-since dead. If you have enemies, how do you think they might attempt to work against you in the future? I try not to think about it. What is the worst thing someone has done to you? One time, this really big guy with super-strength who was using some ridiculous one-word faux-badass name like "Concussion" punched me so hard it practically crushed my rib cage. What a dick right? I got him back though. Where do your loyalties lie? In what order? Freedom, my country, my family, my friends, my company. And I hope to God I never have to choose between any of them, because I can't tell you who I'd choose first. Who or what do you trust the most? Why? My Grandpa and my Uncle. They know all of my secrets. Who or what do you despise? Why? I just hate organized crime guys. They just rub me all the wrong way. All of the criminality of super-criminals, none of the flair, and usually a lot meaner. What qualities do you admire most in other people? Are these qualities you possess? Courage. Doesn't matter what kind of courage. And I'd like to think so, yes. What qualities do you hate most in other people? Do you have any of those qualities? I don't like selfish people. Life is give and take, and you can get through it by JUST taking. I try not to. Do you have a secret identity? If so, who knows it? Do you hide it from people who are close to you? Why? Yes. My Uncle, my grandpa, Fletch, and my old Claremont classmates, my boss, the Director of AEGIS, and Agent "Faraday Irons". Wow that's...actually...a lot of people. I suck at secret identities I guess. Do you work well on teams and in groups? Are you a leader or a follower? I've spent plenty of time on teams. I like a good team dynamic. I'm a leader myself, but I defer always to experience and knowledge. Are you on a super team? If so, how do you get along with your comrades? Do you trust them, or do you have secrets from them? Not since the NextGen. Maybe I'll look into that. Grandpa Mike was on a team once, and look what he accomplished. Are you a member of any church, fraternal organization, club, committee, political party, or other group? How much time do you spend on that? Cape and Cowl Club, like my grandfather. Personality & Beliefs Who are your heroes? My Grandfather and the original Liberty League. The Freedom League guys are great too. Did you ever become disillusioned with former heroes or idols? If so, why and what were the circumstances? Not yet. That's the cool thing about having superheroes as idols: unless they turn evil or something, usually they're pretty cool. Do you like being a hero? If so, what is the most rewarding part? If not, what makes you keep doing it? I seriously wouldn't have my life any other way. Knowing you're out there every day, making a direct difference saving lives...not to mention all the crazy-awesome stuff I get to do. Is there anything that would make you give up hero work, or even switch sides? Short of dying or getting too old, I doubt I'll ever stop. And go evil? Nah, not me. What the heck would I call myself if i were evil? "Bloodhawk?" "Tyranny Eagle?" "Tyrant Bird?" Those all sound lame. What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a year)? I'd like to prove this company I'm running is one of the best in the world. I'll do it too. Watch me. What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years from now)? I...try not to think about it. Problem with being a superhero is, we don't have great lifespans. Death is kind of the superhero retirement plan. We do it anyway, because it's something SOMEONE has to do. What is your greatest fear? Why? What do you do when something triggers this fear? I hate feeling helpless. I was helpess when my parents died. When I feel helpess I get angry. Is there anything you would give you life for? Pick a random person on the street. If they were in danger, and the only way to save them even with all my powers is to die saving them, then I'd do it. Without even thinking twice. They're why guys like me put on costumes and fight crime and stuff. How do you feel about money and material wealth? Do you desire it or disdain it? Are you miserly with what you have, or do you like to share? Is it a mark of success, or a means to an end? I'd like to say I don't think about it much, but I like having money. I'm good with it, and it makes being a superhero easier. I try to organize charities though: owning stuff to just own stuff is kinda pointless. How do you generally treat others? As well as I like to be treated myself, which is well and polite. Professional, if they're capes like me. Are you a trusting person? Has your trust ever been abused? I'm not overly trusting, but I'm not paranoid either. Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? Do you have a lot of self-confidence? I'm sure my corporate contemporaries would say I'm too confident and outgoing. Stiffs, all of them. How do you act around attractive, available members of your preferred sex? I do my best to be a gentleman and charming. I'm kind of old-school that way, nothing too overt. What are your most annoying habits? Everyone says I look distracted when I'm at work. I guess I do splint my attention between FreedomCo and Freedom Eagle. Do you feel contempt for any general category of people? Who are they, and why? Organized criminals. All of the crime (more usually) of costumed guys, none of the flash, and thrice the mean. One good thing? I never feel even a little bit guilty when I'm kicking their asses. What is your favorite food? Do you prefer any particular type of food? Do you take the time to enjoy your food, or do you eat as fast as you can? I suck at choosing favorites, but I'll try almost anything once! I sometimes eat too fast: I don't always have the time to enjoy it. What is your favorite drink (alcoholic or otherwise)? Irish coffee. Guilty pleasure. What is your favorite treat (dessert)? Irish coffee, again. Are there any specific foodstuffs that you find disgusting or refuse to eat? Caviar. Ugh. What is your favorite color? Are there any colors you dislike? My favorite color is blue. As in "red, white and blue". As in FREEDOM! But no, seriously, just blue. What sort of music do you like? Is there any that you hate? I got pretty broad tastes. I'm a classic rock and metal fan though. "Aces High" is pretty much my personal theme song. If you have a favorite scent, what is it? Lilac. Do you have a favorite animal? Eagles. I mean...come on. Obviously. What is your most treasured possession? Why? My costume. Seriously, if someone got ahold of that thing my life would be over. To say nothing of what would happen if someone reverse engineered the anti-gravity tech and abused it. Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts? I've had to rough it, so I can live with it. It's not even that bad sometimes. But I did by one of the three most exclusive penthouses in the city. I guess that kinda says it right there. Is there a job or a task you would absolutely refuse to do? Murder. Not even for the government. Even in AEGIS I didn't explicitly go out to kill people. Not my department. Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? If so, how do your beliefs affect your life? How important is it to you? Not very spiritual, no. I believe in almost everything though. I once hit a dude with a dog face wearing an Egyptian headress claiming to be Anubis' kid. And then there was that thing with Baron Samedi. I hate zombies, did I mention that? Was your faith influenced or molded by anyone special? Not so much. If you belong to a religious organization, how often do you attend? Do you have a specific place of worship, or friends within the organization? How much do you agree with the beliefs of your organization? Nope. Could you kill? Have you killed? If I had to, yes. And yes, I have. During my time in AEGIS. What circumstances led to you forming that conviction, or taking that action? Him or me, and he was gonna blow up Dubai. Not just a building in Dubai. Just Dubai. With a neutron bomb he stole from Soviet-Union superscience warehouse. Pretty much narrowed down my choices a bit.. Are there circumstances under which you believe it is permissible to kill? What are they? I think I'm a peace enforcer. I make citizen's arrests to keep the peace. If we're at war, or there's no other way to save people then take a life, then I will, but it's not a choice I make lightly, ever. How would you react to watching someone kill another person? Would your reaction be different if the killer was a friend or an enemy of yours? I don't like it. It's grim work, and I hope I never get used to seeing it happen. How would you react if something important was stolen from you? Annoyed to extremely annoyed depending on who and what. How would you react to public humiliation? Depends on how funny it was I suppose. How would you react if a good friend or relative were purposely or accidentally killed? Has it happened to you? Not well. If I found the guy who did it...yeah, he'd be sorry. I'd make sure of it. What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why? Murder for hire. Taking someone's life for cash is just....reprehensible to me. If your life were to end in 24 hours, what five things would you do in those remaining hours? I'd organize my affairs, say goodbye to my family, and then go out fighting crime, saving as many lives as I possibly could before going down. It's all about what you do before you die, not how and when you do it. Career & Training Do you have any special training in your hero skills? If so, where and how did you get it? Plenty. I got it at Claremont Academy from my instructors, as well as at AEGIS afterwords. Who taught you the most about your heroing abilities? What was your relationship with that person? Grandpa taught me the basics of how my anti-gravity harnass worked, but I figured out the ropes pretty much by myself. Do you have any particularly unusual skills? How did you acquire them? I can disarm an alien antimatter warhead. I learned it when I had to disarm an alien antimatter warhead this one time. The Grue suck. Do you do something besides hero work for a living? Have you ever done anything else, or do you plan to? CEO of Freedom Consolidated. What is your preferred combat style? Depends on who or what I'm fighting and how many of them there are, but I like to stay mobile and in the air mostly. Have you ever received any awards or honours? Won "World's Sexiest New CEO" last year, and "Freedom City's Most Eligable Bachelor", but it was in Rolling Stone, not a business magazine. What skill areas would you like most to improve in? Is there anything you can't do that you wish desperately you could? I'd like to improve everywhere. Seriously, you never stop learning in the cape business. How do you act around people who are more skilled than you inareas you'd like to improve? Are you jealous, or do you try and learn? I try to get some lessons off of them. Only way to learn except by trial-and-error, and being taught's faster. Lifestyle & Hobbies What is a normal day for you? How do you feel when something interrupts this routine? Get up, go to work, manage the company, get off work, go on patrol. Usually when something interrupts me, I go out and punch it in the face. Do you have any hobbies, or interests outside hero work? What are they, and where did you pick them up? Flying. Seriously, just....flying. What do you do for fun? My job is fun. It's called being a "costumed adventurer" for a reason! Do you have a costume? What does it look like? My helmet, gauntlets, and boots are all gold, with the boots mostly being red with gold lines, with gold wings My outfit is white normally, with some nice American Flag iconography across the sides of my legs when I'm showing off. It can alter it's pigmentation so it's mostly black though, which is how I leave it usually. The chest has a golden eagle with it's peak pointed upword and it's wings spread on the torso. The helmet has two flared-back eagle wings on the side, sort of like a certain fictional DC Comics character I could name, though lower profile then his. My wings when not in use are wrapped around me, with two points clasped around my shoulders like a cape that splits down the middle. When I'm flying or fighting, they extend and become solid. The cape, my helmet, and gauntlets are all made out of pseudometal, a shape-memory alloy that's like cloth metal mesh that can become unbreakably strong surfaces when psychoactive commands are sent to it, which let me fold them and store them in a suitcase or whatever. How do you normally dress when not in costume? Suits. Tasteful ones. What do you wear to bed most nights? Boxers. American Flag boxers. No, really. Do you wear any special jewelry? What is it, and what does it look like? Nope. Do you have a special place where you keep your valuables? Not really. What's your preferred means of local travel? How about long distance? Flight and flight, but I have Gallardi Nova I use when making civilian appearances. Miscellaneous Have you ever made a will, or tried to make arrangements for your death? What provisions did you make? No, but I probably should though. If your features were to be destroyed beyond recognition, is there any other way of identifying your body? Dental records. My DNA is registered with AEGIS too. What would you like to be remembered for after your death? Being the best hero I could possibly be. Maybe a statue in Heroes Knoll. That would be nice. Do you believe you pose a threat to the public? Why or why not? Nope. I don't because I've spent years making sure I'm ready for this job. What do you perceive as your greatest strength? I'm pretty adaptable most of the time. It's saved my ass more then once. What do you perceive as your greatest weakness? I'm not bulletproof...or anything-proof, really. As a player, if you could, what advice would you give your character? Speak as if he/she were sitting right here in front of you. Use proper tone so they might heed your advice... "There's more to being alive then being a superhero. If you life your whole life protecting people and not living as one, you'll loose sight of what's important, and maybe even loose perspective too."

  3. I'd be down for FEII to hitch up with this if he gets approved in time, as he has his former AEGIS agent experience and good knowledge skills. Plus, his flight harnass actually uses daka crystals for it's propulsion and power. As Jack O'Connor he could be using his company as a "neutral party" to facilitate diplomatic such-and-such.

    July 4 Thread

Oh man, I hope I get FEII approved by then because that sounds all kinds of freakin' rad....
  5. At first I was confused why a bird-themed guy was immune to drowning, then I got it. That's pretty neat actually.
  6. It's part of the original build, but actually yeah, I like it quite a bit. It means lesser assaults can't hurt him, but a guy with something like a .45 pistol or heavier still has the chance to hurt him. He's not properly invulnerable, he can just ignore less potent physical assaults.

    Team UK

The team should be called "The Round Table". Tell me that isn't an awesome name.
  8. The up-to-date timeline thing would be pretty helpful, especially considering how much has happened since this place has gotten up on it. I myself love reading old threads and adventures, but an updated timeline and list of major things that has happened and how facts differ from the Freedom City core book, which at this point is technically eight years out of date even in canon since the Freedomverse moves along in real time!
  9. I gotcha on the Thrown thing. I was thinking of dropping thrown for a point of adding Shield into the Device to represent his indestructible wings being used as a passive defense anyway, which would bring my Defense up to cap. Plus the imagery of him using flexible but indestructible wings to Captain America-style block attacks is something that attracted me to the character idea in the first place! I'll also drop Favoured Environment for a different Feat, I think Challenge: Improved Feint to allow him to Feint easier, since he's also got Redirect and Acrobatic Bluff, so obviously it's part of his combat style, lots of confusing aerobatics and blindside hits.
  10. 1: Done and done, thanks for reminding me! 2: I'd rather leave his Attack and damage where it is: it's only a tiny difference anyway I thought, and having to change it up would force me to recalculate stuff again, and my math skills are truly gawdawful. 3: The "Thown" on his gauntlet isn't him throwing his gauntlets: it's throwing tossable objects as projectiles, using the gauntlet's gravity-altercation systems to make it act as if they were thrown by a larger, heavier person, just like how it amps his punches. It's not a Blast effect, because the range is abysmal, moreover he needs something large enough to throw, rather then just anything at all, usally something the size of a baseball or larger mass. It also doesn't stack with thrown weaponry at all like Strength would because it's not actually increasing his real strength, just sort of 'catapaulting' the weapon using the "added" mass the gravity gauntlets give his blows. On a side note, I actually asked this question myself on Atomic Think Tank once: someone clarified that he's not throwing the gauntlets, he's just throwing...stuff. 4: I get what your saying. My issue here is difficulty in definition. He can't do the statosphere, because thanks to his otherwise complete human limitations, he is actually completely incapable of breathing at high altitudes like anyone else would (which reminds me, when I get PP for him I gotta upgrade his Device so that the helmet can actually do stuff like that). I'm not sure what the "cutoff" should be here. Above street level doesn't help, and neither does above buildings as a clarifier, because building's vary in size. I was only going to have it apply when he's got room to maneuver in the Air basically, not just hovering above the ground, which I'm not sure how to describe for the purposes of the Feat. It's akin to the Falcon or Hawkman's ability to outfight otherwise stronger or tougher heroes in the air thanks to their excellent aerobatics and maenuverability. Him having at least a marginal advantage in flight is one of the key things of the entire build, even in the 2nd Ed version of it. If it's really too much trouble, I'll just drop it and exchange it for some skill points or something, I dunno....
  11. I would second this too. You could also make "super" undead or something like that, because this Shadow-Earth is is "closer" in cosmological terms to the source of these life-sucking undead horrors, so greater, more potent versions arise to the main universe maybe?
  12. Player Name: BType Character Name: Jack O'Connor Power Level: 10 (150/151PP) Trade-Offs: +1 Attack/-1 Damage, +1 Defense/-1 Toughness Unspent Power Points: 1 Progress To Bronze Status: 1/30 In Brief: Nephew of Freedom's mayor, Michael O'Connor Jr, Jack takes up his grandfather's legacy as Freedom Eagle. Alternate Identity: Jack O'Connor Identity: Secret Birthplace: Freedom City Occupation: Businessman, CEO and Chairman of Freedom Consolidated Affiliations: None Family: Michael O'Connor Jr. Description: Age: 26 (DoB: 1987) Apparent Age: 26 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 6'0'' Weight: 187lbs Eyes: Blue Hair: Black Michael is a well-build young man who frequently is known to dress in expensive suits when in his civilian identity, especially when managing Freedom Consolidated. As Freedom Eagle II, his costume is mostly black, but for the golden eagle design on the chest. The wings, gauntlets, and helmet of his costume are gold-colored. When in flight or using them defensively the pseudometal wings become rigid, but flexible. When idle, they fall to the ground like two capes. Power Descriptions: Jack himself has no superhuman powers, being a human being in excellent physical and mental shape. He is however equipped with several advanced devices that give him superhuman abilities, namely flight and limited superhuman strength. History: Jack O'Connor is the son of Carter O'Connor, younger brother of Freedom City's Mayor, Michael O'Connor Jr, and grandson of Michael O'Connor Sr. wealthy inventor and formerly the Liberty League member and beloved superhero Freedom Eagle. While Michael inherited much of their father's charisma and leadership qualities, using them to go into politics, Carter inherited more of his inventive genius with mechanical and electronics, using it increase the fortune their father had left them. Marrying his high school sweetheart Shiera Blake, in '87 they had a child, whom they named Jack. Tragedy struck in 1993 when six-year-old Jack was orphaned when the Terminus Invasion struck the world. Attempting to evacuate to safety, the sedan they fled it was totaled and nearly destroyed by a blast from an Omegadrone's power pike. While Jack survived the crash, his parents did not. Having no other legal guardian except his uncle Michael, he was later sent to be raised by him, though in actuality he spent more time with his grandfather in those early years as Michael O'Connor crusaded in his early years as Mayor of Freedom City. Raised on a combination of his grandfather's stories of the Golden Age and his uncle's sense of civic duty and responsibility, Jack recovered from his tragedy with a strong desire to leave the world better then when he came into it, and to prevent deaths like his parents. Already showing signs of his father's inventive creativity, he for most of his life struggled with trying to decide how he wanted to make the world better, until a trip into his uncle's attic when he was fifteen gave him an answer when he found the original costume of Freedom Eagle. It wasn't difficult for Jack to figure out the Winged Wonder of Freedom's true identity after that, and he began to tinker and alter the suit's daka crystal core and gravity gauntlets, attempting to use modern science to improve what his grandfather made. When his uncle found him, he expressly forbid that he become Freedom Eagle, and that he let the legacy lie in peace rather then endanger himself, possibly even getting himself killed, somthing he claimed his brother wound not want. Jack was adamant however, and much to Michael's surprise, so was his grandfather! Eventually he relented, with one requirement: that Jack get proper training in being a superhero first. Jack was unsure what that meant until he was transfered to Claremont Academy as one of it's first students and met his classmates. Excelling at both his studies and his training with his classmates, Jack was considered perhaps a bit too serious by most of his peers at Claremont, though his initial vigilante activies with what the student Sonic flippantly dubbed "The NextGen" showed that his studies paid off a greal deal. Much to everyone's surprise, he did not initially become a superhero upon graduating at the same time as his classmate Fletcher Beaumont III (also known as The Bowman), instead enlisting for AEGIS as one of it's "special outreach recruits" directly from high school. Though this surprised some people, those in the know were aware that Director Horatio Powers knew Michael O'Connor Sr (and therefore Jack O'Connor's) secret identity through Jack Simmons, formerly the Patriot, still serving his country after his biological death in an android body as Special Agent "Faraday Irons", and thus jumped at the opportunity to train and mold a teen superhero into the perfect AEGIS field agent. Jack, after some initial bumps and starts served a stellar record with AEGIS, with "Agent Irons" eventually revealing his true identity out of respect for his old friend Freedom Eagle, and Director Powers instistance that Simmons convice Jack to join him and become part of an AEGIS-controlled superteam. Much to both of their surprise, Jack did not accept, instead resigning from AEGIS after four years of service, and instead enrolled in Harvard Colleage, earning his MBA at twenty-four, claiming that that had been his original plan all along anyway. Jack then returned to Freedom City, used his inheritence to make a start-up technology company, flippantly named "Freedom Consolidated", where he is now CEO and Chairman, spending his off-duty hours as Freedom Eagle II for the first time since high school. Personality & Motivation:
Jack, despite the early tragedy in his life, is rather well-adjusted thanks to his uncle and grandfather's efforts. While the public percieves him as a somewhat flamboyant and young businessman with far too many temporary girlfriends, his charities and relationship with their favorite Mayor keep the public from truly disliking him. In private Jack is charming, but often seems distracted to most people he knows, though his acumen at managing Freedom Consolidated has kept the board of directors quiet about his public flamboyance. As Freedom Eagle his personality is notably different, becoming highly driven and goal-oriented while retaining a certain charm and a dry sense of humor, coming off as a combination of professional soldier and costumed adventurer.

 Powers & Tactics:
All of Jack's powers come from his Anti-Gravity Flight Harness. Powered by daka crystals from the African nation of Dakana, the harness uses daka crystal's unique electromagnetic and gravity-warping properties to self-proelled flight. The wings are part of the harness, and are not actually the source of propulsion, instead acting as a maenuver control system. The original pair of wings having long since been rendered unusable, Jack instead replaced them with an advance lightweight metallic pair made out of "pseudometal", a shape-memory material that flexes and stiffens when energy current is applied to them. Using psychoactive controls inside of his helmet, Jack is able to make the wings resemble a simple pair of capes joined with a clasp on the front of his costume or flex them into place, becoming almost indestructible surfaces he uses both as defensive shields and flight controllers. The other advanced piece of equipment are his gravity gauntlets. Appearing as simple goldel gloves, they are made out of the same flexible pseudometal as his wings, transforming from something akin to rubberized surfaces to articulated and unbreakable plate armor gauntlets depending on Jack's needs. Using "mass shadow manipulation" the gauntlets artifically increase the effective "mass" behind Jack's blows, making it seem as if they were being thrown by a much stronger, heavier individual without Jack's actual weight or mass changing at all. They also increase his strength by a large factor by lightening loads he carries: with them he can lift just over 5 tons with relative ease. The final piece of the harness is the suit itself, which is highly advanced body armor akin to Kevlar, reinforced by an "interial dampening field" that bleeds off the effective mass behind various assaults, allow him to survive superhuman blows and other such massive trauma without instantly being killed, as well as letting him shrug off lighter attacks almost entirely. Complications: Maneuverability Loss [Wings]: While the harness's anti-gravity engine propels Jack through the air, if his wings are bound he looses any ability to maneuver himself at all, as they act as rudders for his anti-gravity thrusters. Secret [identity]: Jack protects both his own identity, as well as his grandfather's secret identity and his uncle's relationship to both of them. Fame: Jack is one of Freedom's most prominent businessmen and the son of it's beloved mayor, making him a major public figure. Paparazzi often follow his movements, making it more difficult to maintain his dual identity. Responsibilities: As both the Mayor's nephew and head of Freedom Consolidated, Jack has a number of important responsibilities dividing up his time, especially when his superhero activities are taken into consideration.

    Freedom Eagle II

The build is based off of the example Freedom Eagle build in the Archetypes books with some points moved around to improve the Device rating a bit more. As to why they made all their saves equal: I guess you'll have to inquire of Steve Kenson. I like it personally: he's not GREAT at any one thing but he's good at all of it.

    Freedom Eagle II

Posting this up here first so people can check my math. I'm thinking Jack is the Mayor-Serving-In-Office-Way-Too-Long's nephew, whom was orphaned during the Terminus Invasion, which gives him impetus as a hero to want to protect people. He gets raised as his "sort of" kid, with O'Connor Jr. being his only legal guardian. He eventually finds his grandpa's REALLY old costume and starts messing with it, eventually figuring out how it works and whom it belonged to. By the time he's a teenager he actually has figured out how to improve on it, and his uncle catches him trying it on. O'Connor basically tells him to knock that stuff off, but Jack demands to be taught how to use it, because if not he's going to try and figure it out on his own. O'Connor eventually relents, but at the condition that he take high school classes at the recently opened Claremont Academy so he can learn to properly be a superhero. Afte graduating he serves a tour of duty in the Marine Corps, and then comes back and uses his scientific prowess and inheretience to start a slowly growing multi-million-dollar technology company called "Freedom Consolidated", and starts up his heroing career again. Is this origin problematic somehow?

Rook (v2)

What Sonic came up with was the NAME, not the team I believe, which I never claimed Fletch or Drake came up with. Calling them "NextGen" seemed more appropriate then calling them "that hero team he and Bowman were on which Sonic hadn't named yet". Trust me: I'm not trying to demerit, demote, roll over, or de-importance existing NPC's. In fact when OTHER people do that it's pretty infuriating to me. I'm just trying to tie my character into Freedom's existing universe somehow, which is easier for me then literally pulling him out if my hidequaters. If ya knew me, you'd know it's not on purpose, it's just me not having memorized literally every single aspect of every single one of the Freedomverse books.

Alternate Identity: Drake Grey Identity: Secret Birthplace: New York City, New York Occupation: "Bachelor" (Indedependently Wealthy) Affiliations: Duncan Summers (formerly the Raven), Callie Summers (The Raven), Fletcher Beaumont III (The Bowman), Claremont Academy (former student) Family: N/A, Duncan Summers (Godfather), Callie Summers (Godsister) Description: Age: 26 (DoB: 11/12/87) Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5'11 Weight: 175lbs Eyes: Blue Hair: Black Drake when out of costume cuts an attractive figure. His build is as slim as his godfather's, but he is a few inches short of the Raven's height. He is extremely heavily muscled for his build, and thanks to this weighs in at far more as his figure would initially suggest. He generally keeps his hair at a reasonable length, though when in costume he tends to fly unkept regardless of how long he is currently wearing it. Smiles come easy to his face, both in friendly greeting to new people and in cocky smirks when fighting supercriminals. His costume is, like his mentor's primarily black with muted blues to blend into dark, urban environments, but lacks a cape entirely, as Drake dislikes their bulk, heavily preferring to remain mobile when he fights. The black bodysuit is broken up by a red bird-emblem on his chest, and a leather-like jacket he wears over it, as the bodysuit has not room for his tools. History: Drake Grey is the son of Timothy Grey, formerly the Duncan Summer's archeological partner before Summer's discovered the treasure that would create his fortune. While Summers eventually invested his earnings into a tidy profit after losing his family to crime, Tim Grey never truly stopped adventuring, eventually marrying and having a son while keeping up his globe-trotting lifestyle. One day he came to Freedom Ciy to introduce their children to each other and catch up on old times. On the way there, young Drake's parents were murdered by a Mafia hit gone horrifically wrong, orphaning Drake at age twelve. Duncan found and took in Drake as his godfather, raising the barely thirteen-year-old boy as his own along with his daughter Callie. While Drake at first was a morose and depressed child who frequently acted out, one day he accidentally discovered his godfather's Raven costume, long in storage since his retirement. Drake confronted his god father, demanding that Duncan train him as a crime fighter so he could prevent what happened to his parents from ever happening again. Initially as reluctant to train Drake in crimefighting as he was his daughter Callie, Duncan eventually was convinced by Drake's conviction to supervise his training, eventually founding the Claremont Academy based on his newfound enjoyment of teaching, where Drake became one Duncan's very first students, giving Drake both a formal education and the training in superheroics he desired. Drake, though initially distant from his Claremont peers, found his first real friends in the Claremont Academy's grounds, bonding especially well with the young Fletcher Beaumont III, the third Bowman. Drake and Fletch's eagerness to attempt crime-fighting before they had officially graduated eventually created the first iteration of the NextGen team, with Drake fighting crime as "Sparrow", frequently arguing with Fletch over tactics and constantly competing with with for position of unofficial "team leader". Spending years fighting both street crime in Southside Freedom and whatever supervillain threats the teenaged heroes of the NextGen ran into, when Drake graduated he was an extremely versitile hero, becoming the independent superhero called "The Rook". Personality & Motivation:
Drake is remarkably well-adjusted despite the traumas he experienced early in life. Having adventured with his parents across the globe almost from birth, the thrill of his crime-fighting lifestyle appeals to him, though he tempers his daredevil tendencies with a strong sense of right and wrong drilled into him by his mentor. If confronted directly, Drake would be forced to admit that he's a superhero because he's been trained to do it since he was thirteen, and really knows (and doesn't want to know) any other way to live his life.

Powers & Tactics:
Drake has no superhuman abilities, with all of his skills instead being a result of extensive physical conditioning and combat training. Complications:
Secret: Identity (Drake must keep his identity secret, not only because of his own safety, but for the safety of his godfamily.) Enemies: Raven's Rogues Gallery (Anyone who's ever held a grudge against the Raven knows that to attack his former sidekick is an excellent way to hurt him indirectly.) Fame: In his secret identity Drake is a fairly well-known socialite in Freedom City, and one of it's most eligable (and well-off) bachelors, thus is presence is fairly noted among social circles when he travels.

Relationships: Though not lacking for charm or looks (his appearence has been commented on by the opposite sex more then once) has a truly awful track record with the opposite sex, thanks to the demands of his superheroing (which he considers his actual job) and his need to keep his identity a secret. His most "successful" relationships have always been with other superheroes, all of which often ended on poor terms, thanks to Drake's "workaholic" attitude towards crime-fighting or trauma. Emerald City

So though the 3rd Edition rulebook for the Freedomverse's Emerald City setting still isn't out yet once it does come out would people be interested in setting it up as alternate, external locations to Freedom, akin to the space and out-of-country locations? I don't use 3rd edition rules (I usually just convert 3rd Ed stuff to 2nd Ed, which is trivally easy for the most part), but I do nonetheless like the glimpses we've seen of Emerald City so far.
  20. BType

    Rook

I've revised the concept already: he's now technically the Duncan Summer's protegee and one of the Claremont Academy's original students rather then the Raven's sidekick. Now he's still connected to the Raven, but he he was never his sidekick, more akin to an adopted grandson, and while he never worked with Duncan Summers personally, he was still trained by him, akin to Terry McGinnis in the Batman Beyond series. He still used the "Sparrow" identity, but only as an independent hero akin to Dick Grayson's early New Teen Titans days (a deliberate parrallel), and later became Rook. This also puts him closer to the Bowman in age, whom according to the Freedom City book was a recent graduate from Claremont in 2005, meaning eight years later he'd be twenty-six. See his updated profile now for specific changes. This actually works better for me honestly. I hope these changes make him viable for the game now?
  21. BType

    Rook

Yeah, I'm aware of the timeline difficulties. I kind of wish Freedom City using a more flexible timescale and was less specific at times, since by all rights most of these characters are now a decade-and-change older then their "official" ages, meaning literally every single thing we know about them currently is no longer canon, because real life advances a LOT faster then they come out with suppliments explaining what's happened to Summers, so on and so forth. Callie Summers would hardly be the youngish woman in her twenties anymore for instance, she'd be thirty-five or something. I'm not sure how to reconcile the differences between Rook's history and the timeline rather then just handwaving it or literally scrapping the character in his entirety and starting over with someone new something I do NOT want to do even in the slightest. It would be extremely frustrating since I joined awhile ago and made several character ideas that I just ended up not liking, and therefore just stopped coming here entirely for some time. I had this idea and it clicked, so I dunno what else to do. Also, I checked my math: my Device powers are math-accurate, to the best of my knowledge. Blast would cost more, but it has a drawback hugely reducing it's maximum range. Also super-senses are pretty freaking cheap: I actually added a bunch in there at the end because I had some points left over after adjusting the build and I couldn't think of what else to add that would fit his whole concept, so I basically made his mask akin to the Cowl's "Detective Mode" in those new Arkham games.
  22. BType

    Rook

Well my logic is clearly Summers can be TOO opposed to it, since he canonically teaches an entire class of teenagers who actively go out crime-fighting and secretly approves of the practice. Basically I noted the Raven never had any "Robin", so I figured Drake could have been his Robin, albiet extremely temporarily. As his history with Claremont Academy and long experience as a hero suggests he's really more Nightwing then Robin anyway, which is fine since Dick Grayson is by far my favorite superhero. Apologize about the HellQ, I didn't know about that bit.
  23. BType

    Rook

A character proposal, derived from the "Grown-Up Sidekick" archetype from the Iron Age Sourcebook, and obviously based off of Richard "Dick" Grayson, alias Nightwing. Hopefully the math is on the ball, as I am just terrible with numbers, which is why I went with an archetype so I could modify most of the math for what I needed. I also hopefully got the format right, i was sticking as close to possible as what else I'd seen on here.
