  1. Rav, Saithor, did you guys want to get another post in before I go again?
  2. It's mathematically impossible for either Nighthawk or Woodsman to lie to Kingsnake, so he's forced to believe them.

Kingsnake sighed quietly behind his mask. Heartbeats jumped a little when they spotted me, but didn't move a micron while they were talking. No change in smell either. Dammit, they're telling the truth. They're a dead-end. He spun his arm around in a circle a few times, coiling his bullwhip around his forearm, before sliding it off and down to his side. "There are people in this city who can give you super-powers, if you can pay the price. But results are unpredictable. Accidents happen. So they're always tweaking the process, refining it. That requires a steady supply of victims whom no one will miss. When they're not trafficking in refugees and migrants, they go shopping for street people."

Kingsnake tensed his eyelids behind his mask, gritted his teeth, and cursed himself. Damn. Sloppy. He stepped out into the open and began walking toward the teenagers, slowly, deliberately. His hand pulled the bullwhip free from his side faster than the eye could follow. The braided leather unspooled and slithered through the air, seemingly of its own accord. "Your boss doesn't get any new playthings to dissect tonight," he growled at them. "Tell me where to find him, and I'll let you go to prison. Don't, and it's the hospital...or the morgue."
  5. Kingsnake tried to keep the bookshelves between himself and the robed figures as he quietly stalked through the library, closing in on them. Chanting...robes...masks...big chunks of rocks in weird shapes...Magic. Or science and technology exploiting the trappings of magic. Either way, not my area of expertise. The fairy can probably fill in the blanks later. But whether they're wizards or scientists, whether they're trying to reverse-engineer Malice's hardware or augment it, they have to be stopped.
  6. Stealth check: 17. My edits can't go through fast enough. Woodsman's got +17 with Skill Mastery. He automatically knows that Kingsnake is creeping about. Nighthawk's whopping +4 Notice actually gives him a chance to be sneaky. Once Kingsnake catches up with them, he'll tail them.

Kingsnake "watched" the young woman with interest as she jumped the fence with ease. The waves of ultrasound bathing the area and bouncing back to his brain painted him a mental picture. The microscopic vibrations he felt through the ground with every step they took filled in more detail. From size, shape, weight, and the sound of their voices, he could tell he was dealing with adolescents. Kids. Not street kids, though. They're getting chummy with street people, but I smell soap, and shampoo, and their last few meals. They've been showering regularly and getting enough to eat. And she's got powers. He cut through the shadows like a shark through water, dropping behind whatever object he could put between himself and the two teens whenever they turned in his direction. It'd be nice if they were just good Samaritans looking for hard-luck cases. But it's far more likely they're roided-up delinquent thugs some mad scientist sent shopping for raw materials. Good thing I'm the one who showed up, and not some boyscout who'd go easy on them.
  8. SHOCK'D AND AWE BY HGM Kingsnake 4PP to spend. Drop Distract. I've never used it. (+1PP) 5PP to spend. Buy 5PP worth of Feats: Fast Task 2 (Acrobatic Feint, Demoralize) Quick Draw Skill Mastery +1 (Climb, Investigate, Search, Stealth) Ultimate Skill +1 (Disable Device) Shift 5 ranks of Disable Device over to Search, dropping Disable Device to +10, and increasing Search to +20. Thrude 2PP to spend. Drop 1 rank of Super-Strength, decreasing from 6 to 5. This drops her Heavy Load from 100 tons to 50 tons, and her powered Grapple bonus from +24 to +23. (+2PP) 4PP to spend. Drop the Protection from inside the Device. This frees up 3PP in the Device. Buy +4 ranks of Protection outside the Device, increasing it from 2 to 6. Her powered Toughness is now +16 (Impervious 11), and her powered Knockback resistance is now 13. The device no longer has any effect on her Toughness or Knockback resistance. This leaves her at defensive PL11 all the time, and offensive PL11 with her weapon, or offensive PL9 without it. So overall, she averages out to PL11 with the device, PL10 without it. Within the Device: 3PP to spend. Spend 1PP to increase the Action on the Environment Control (Light) power from "Move" to "Free." Spend 2PP to add 1 rank to the Storm Mastery array. Weapon Strike + Wind: Remove 2 ranks of Knockback from the Mighty Damage power. Transfer those 2PP to the Flight power. Add the new 2PP to Flight as well. This increases the Flight rank from 5(6) to 7(8). Lightning Bolt: Add 1 rank of Homing, for 2 ranks total. This uses 25PP of the available 26PP. I'll leave the last point unspent for now. Wind: Add 2PP to the Flight power, increasing the rank from 9(10) to 10(11). Summon Rainbow Bridge + Wind: Add 2PP to the Flight power, increasing the rank from 5(6) to 6(7). Storm Summoning: Buy off the "Full Power" drawback. This uses 25PP of the available 26PP. I'll leave the last point unspent for now.
  9. I'll wait to post in the IC until you do, Geez. Move Action: Kingsnake will try for a better Stealth check: 27. That's better. ??? Action: Kingsnake will take 10 with Skill Mastery to hit DC30 on Notice to keep tracking the stolen armor. Once he gets close to it, then he'll Search that room for it. If he can take 10, he will, to get 25. If not, let me know and I'll roll. Searching a 5ft x 5ft area is a full action. A 10ft x 10ft area is 1 minute / 10 rounds. I have no idea how big the room will be.

An imposing silhouette mused to himself as he jumped and climbed and swinged across rooftops and down alleyways, one shadow among the many who slipped through the cracks of Freedom City, into the Fens. Patterns. The most elementary form of detective work. Kingsnake contemplated his chosen path as he listened to snippets of conversations from a quarter-mile away. Find the pattern. Then find the things that don't fit into the pattern...things that are there, but shouldn't be...things that aren't there, but should be.
  11. Kingsnake will take 10 on the Gather Info check and get 25.
  12. Kingsnake will take a full action to use Intimidate to interrogate #3. He'll take 10 with Skill Mastery and get 25. On one hand, the villian is helpless. On the other hand, Kingsnake's exhausted and his last couple of attacks have been ineffective. So you make the call whether he gets a +2 or -2 circumstance bonus to resist, or if the various factors even out. I'm assuming that, since #3 is Helpless, at least part of his hard-to-lose Device can be removed. Let me know if I'm mistaken, and I'll edit accordingly.
  13. Kingsnake's low, coarse growl came from behind Phalanx. "You're better than that." He walked around the linebacker-sized hero, inclined his head slightly toward Gauss, then stared at the armored mercenary in Phalanx's grip. "That makes you a minority." He slowly reached up over the armored thug's shoulders, under the rim of his helmet, and pulled it off. "Of course, you're the big gun, so you call the shots...for now." He leaned his face in closer to the thug, almost touching noses. "But he has better things to do than watch over a dime-a-dozen rent-a-thug. I don't. So give me something better to do with my time."
  14. ShaenTheBrain entered the room HG Morrison left the room ShaenTheBrain: Yeah, you BETTER run. HG Morrison entered the room ShaenTheBrain: OH NO HE DI'INT ShaenTheBrain: Hold my earrings HG Morrison: I hope they're quarter inch studs and not hoops. Because I'll pull on some hoops.
  15. Kingsnake kept to the shadows as he ducked, weaved, and tip-toed across the grounds, following the distinct combination of ozone and machine oil belonging to the thieves and their loot. I don't like leaving the fight them. Or leaving them alone with Malice. Or having to admit that Malice is right. There isn't much to like about any of this. But he is right. I can do more good by taking advantage of the distraction and finding the stolen weapon than I could by brawling with a few hired thugs. He took a few deep breaths, trying to sort through the tangled knot of sounds and smells and shapes around him. Give me something...a door, a window, even an air duct, as long as it's empty...
  16. ...It just occurred to me that Kingsnake has no way of knowing whether or not any lights are on. So scratch that part. He's just looking for a possible entry point devoid of people. He may be able to use his tremorsense to feel the vibrations of their footsteps through the outer wall, but he definitely should be able to use his echolocation to detect the presence of anyone who isn't behind a thick enough barrier to block the ultrasound waves, and he can at least detect the presence of people he can smell, if not their exact location.
  17. Kingsnake's at 1/2 speed because he's using stealth, so that's 50ft per move action. He'll keep following the relevant smells of the stolen armor to whichever structure they lead to, using as many move actions as it takes to get there. Ideally, he'll try to find a possible entrance (door, window, duct he can squeeze through, etc.) which is unguarded and/or which leads into one of the few areas of the building where the lights aren't on. If he does have to get past a guard, lemme know and he'll gank 'em. Otherwise, if he finds what he's looking for and he has the actions left, he'll start the full action required to Search for any security measures he needs to bypass (to be followed on future rounds by whatever Disable Device or Escape checks he needs to make to gain entry).
  18. Kingsnake heard every word from Gauss clearly, but he didn't speak a word of German. The armored mercenary and the false hostage, however, made perfect sense to him. "She won't survive to testify." Kingsnake gritted his teeth. His face twisted into a snarl beneath his mask. "She'll outlive you." He clenched his hand into a fist and threw all his weight behind a brutal haymaker punch to the armored man's jaw.
  19. Kingsnake is Exhausted. Move Action: Demoralize as a move action at -5 against Backup #3. Kingsnake takes 10 with Skill Mastery for 20. Standard Action: Unarmed attack against Backup #3. Accurate Attack for +2 Attack / -2 Damage. +12 Attack, -3 for being Exhausted, +2 for Accurate Attack, +11 total. Attack check (DC19): 18.

    Starspawn (IC)

Thrude had no wish to frighten the mere mortals with whom she came into contact, but she was, as usual, oblivious to the uneasiness her bombast tended to inspire. The ground shook beneath her as she took off into the air, and errant sparks left scorch marks on the docks. The goddess let a grin creep across her porcelin face when she heard the shriek in the distance. "At last..." Tendrils of electricity flowed from the blade of her massive battle axe, engulfing her entire body. The funnel cloud surrounding her legs morphed into the shape of a gargantuan eight-legged war-horse, with sparks for eyes. Thrude pointed her axe forward, and the horse-shaped cloud charged across the sky, leaving thunder in its wake with every hoofbeat.
  21. Thrude raised her battle axe into the air above her head, gripping it with both hands. A few sparks erupted from her eyes and from the runes etched into the blade. Then a freezing wind rushed through the area, thunder boomed, and a bolt of lightning fell from the sky. When it touched the axe, Thrude heaved the blade down into the dirt. The ground shook beneath their feet. A ribbon of light, containing every color of the rainbow, spiraled down from the sky and unfurled in front of them, straightening into an arch. "COME, honored guests! THE HOME OF THE GODS awaits!" Thrude took off running up the arch. Despite appearing to simply be a glowing hologram, the light supported her weight.
  22. Kingsnake snapped his right arm out toward the woman who had been pretending to be the armored man's hostage, sending his whip flying toward her. The braided leather wrapped around her legs. He yanked back on the whip, hoping to pull her to the floor. At the same time, he shifted his left leg back and forth in small semicircles on the floor, before jerking it up faster than the eye could follow and stomping down on the armored mercenary's stomach. He turned his head slightly over his shoulder to growl at the German in the gas mask. "You have power I don't. Make sure the trains stay on the tracks. This is what I do."
  23. Standard Action: Trip attempt against the fake hostage. Power Attack for -2 Attack / +2 Damage. He takes 10 against her, since she's a Minion, and hits DC19. He gets +7 from his Strength (or Dexterity, doesn't matter, same), +2 from the whip, and +2 from the Power Attack. Trip check (D20 +11): 17. His bonus is higher, so I believe she needs to get 18+ in order to avoid being tripped, and to get a chance to trip him instead. Move Action: Acrobatic Feint against Backup #3 as a move action at -5. Kingsnake takes 10 and gets 20. Free Action: Use Extra Effort to Surge. Standard Action: Unarmed attack against Backup #3. Previous Power Attack still applies. +4 bonus for a melee attack against a prone target. Attack check: 16. I rolled a 3. I believe that only hits if the feint worked. Kingsnake will be Exhausted on his next turn.
  24. Hide In Plain Sight + Stealth check: 16. Natural 1. WTF, Orokos? Yesss, definitely need another rank of Skill Mastery.
