  2. And so the Great Wheel turns once again... In order to make sure the Refs accurately count all your IC posts and award you the due amount of power points, please post with a list of all the threads in which your player character, NPC or sidekick posted IC this month (including the News forum). Also list any threads which you are GMing. GM posts count as double and can be assigned to whichever of your characters needs a 'push'. This topic will automatically close on the seventh day of the following month (i.e., February 7th, 2024 at Midnight EST). When you make your list, post a link to your first post for the month for each IC thread so we can jump right to it. When you start a thread, make sure IC is the first tag and topic prefix of the In Character thread, and OOC is in the first tag and topic prefix of the Out Of Character thread. It's not required, but additional tags including the major players and locations are viewed as a courtesy. Please list your threads in alphabetical order. Please clearly note any threads in which you are both player and GM/running an NPC. In threads where you are both player and GM/an NPC, please be sure to mark each post so we can tell who it should be allocated to. Please list your threads in a timely manner. Extending the deadline one week into the following month is already a grace period. If you've done any "extracurriculars" -- artwork, HellQ, 20 Questions, NPC, vignettes, guidebook pages, etc. -- please be sure to list them along with your active threads. For more information on ways to earn power points, see Character Advancement and Awards in the House Rules section of the Guide. Post counts should be formatted similar to the following: To make clear how many posts from rollover and GM posts are assigned to each character. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in reliving 2023 our post counts being postponed or skipped completely. If you missed the deadline, see this thread.
  3. A tiny swirl of blue and orange sparkles appeared by one of the elevators, accompanied by the faint yet warm tones of some silvery stringed instrument. The lights and sounds increased, slowly, steadily, not too much to draw attention of the revelers, but noticeable by anyone who happened to be looking in its direction (except for Percy, whose ears began to twitch at the presence of a vaguely familiar magic). It grew to a sphere of soft swirling lights, about seven feet wide, and within it something solid appeared. It looked to be a person, or at least person-sized and -shaped, but from the way its upper half was turning and twisting, it appeared just as surprised at its arrival as anyone in Freedom Hall. The bubble of light 'popped,' showering the figure in blue and orange glitter. He looked out, jaw agape, as surprised to see the assembled heroes as they surely were to see him. Though he had left Earth four years ago, and been laying low for some time before that, most would still recognize him on sight. "Ah... hello," Doktor Viktor Archeville said after a lengthy pause, "and... happy holidays!?" How they would react to his sudden appearance would be... complicated.
  4. Artificer Are there people there? Humans? Humanoids? Something else?! Xeno!Davyd crouched and sniffed at the ground, then the air, rising to the full 6'9" of chitinous horror height. "Ssssooo," he hissed, "thisss feelsss... sssafe?" He tilted his head towards their resident psychic, Lulu, what does your mind's eye see? He could not help but flash an image of a certain meme featuring Orlando Bloom.
  5. Artificer Heroditus stood at ease before Glamazon. "<Yes, my prin- >," he began, then paused, cleared his throat, "that is, ah, yes, I understand." He gave her a quick (and less formal) salute then withdrew from her, to see what else the event might offer. He applauded at the appropriate parts of Velocity's initial speech, then was quickly awestruck by Multiplicity's performance. After the second song, he had regained enough sense to begin rummaging through his pockets and retrieve assorted wires, metallic disks, and chips of crystal, which he assembled into a classic 'flying saucer' shape. It lit up and began hovering near him, its lights pulsing along with the music it was recording. They'd never believe a Surfacer could make tones like this! He listened attentively to Velocity's second speech, applauding again at the appropriate parts. He left his device to record her pre-recorded playlist, and nodded along with the beat as more and more people started dancing. Then his foot started tapping. And before he realized what had happened, the Atlantean was on the dance floor, losing himself in the music.
  6. Horrorshow Chris & Liz saw the six-armed juggler's legs fuse into a one trunk, squash down into a ball, then narrow into something like a unicycle wheel, skidding back and forth, all without interrupting his performance. He even waved at them with one arm, "hey, folks! We've always got room for more! Don't worry, your little one will be safe as... well, as if the Freedom League themselves were here!" The balls suddenly disappeared (absorbed back into a pouch which had appeared on his back) as his arms shifted, the forearms and hands becoming the torsos and heads of Captain Thunder, Centurion, Daedalus, Lady Liberty, Johnny Rocket, and Siren, all as they'd looked in their prime (though much smaller). "Hi, kids!," they greeted in unison.
  7. Dead Head As Michael firmly shook the revenant's hand, it snapped off the wrist! Dead Head seemed not to notice, and continued casually conversing with the younger hero, "I'm happy to've helped ya! Most of us have just a short time on this Earth, so we should spend it helpin' others where we can," he patted Michael on the shoulder with his remaining hand, "but you already seem to've taken that lesson t'heart! An' I'd be glad t'have yer help, or t'help you if you come across anythin' too spooky! Just head over to Lantern Hill," he took his hand from Michael's shoulder and jerked his thumb in the direction of that place, "an' call out mah name, and the spirits there'll get word t'me." He waved to Temperance (who he knew by reputation) and Stesha (with whom he'd worked before), and gave a hearty thumb-and-middle-finger-in-mouth whistle at Multiplicity's performance. By now his hand had been released from Michael's grasp, and had scurried back to him and reattached itself, just time time for Kimber to hand over her charge. "Well," he pulled up his hoodie, "looks like my shift's begun. Time t'show this one what his actions now are gonna cause in th' future." The tattered black hoodie morphed into a great dusky shroud, concealing head, face, and form, leaving nothing visible save one outstretched blue-purple hand. He floated up to Kimber's level and snatched up Ezekiel Parfum by his collar, "time to face the consequences of your aaactiooonnnsss!," then flew off through the walls towards... who knows....
  8. Protectron The glorious golden gearsman had served Copycat, Predator, Glamazon, Eira, and all others who had approached the station with inhuman efficiency, having lessened (though not completely abandoned) the insistence on non-alcoholic beverages. Protectron paused only twice: first to admire the harmonic perfection of the band's performance, and again Velocity's transcendental dance moves. However, even as work resumed, something Copycat had said had been rattling about in Protectron's circuits. Protectron did not attempt to hack into Copycat's phone to see what information might be there. That would be rude, and Protectron knew that most organics did not appreciate that. Instead, Protectron continued serving at the bar, and resolved to approach her at an appropriate time.
  9. Dead Head "Aw, pshaw," he replied to Kimber's praise, opening wide his arms that were just as effective at hugging ghosts as they were at punching them. "Might be somethin' in th' Bedlam air that's preservin' me -- an' doin' a number on th' residents -- but I'm the same ol' Burt as ever!" He glanced over at her phantasmal charge, "ah, you must be Zeke. I've heard a lot about you," he waggled a finger, then turned back to Kimber, "a certain, ah, mutual acquaintance said you was helpin' one of their kin, and asked me to help out, an' how could I say no? So, here I am. You almost done with- eh?" Michael's words caught him by surprise, and he studied the teen hero a moment. "Hrm? Oh!," he snapped his fingers, "Lil' Mi-," he caught himself, "oops! Sorry, don't wanna be givin' nothin' away! Oh, but you have grown, son!" They were of an equal height now, but when Michael was eight (and held hostage by a malevolent spirit), the older hero would've appeared to tower over him. "An' you're here with a bunch of these fine folks, so you must be doin' good for yourself, an' for others! Good job!" His rictus grin widened a bit, and he offered the younger hero his hand.
  10. Artificer A tall figure in blue breeches, a green tunic, and a wide red leather belt & bandolier had been at the open-air ice skating rink, gliding about -- with a fair deal of difficulty -- on golden-coppery skates. I can see the advantages this mode of movement might provide, he thought while struggling to make it to the edge of the rink, but mastering it's proving more difficult than I had anticipated! Catching a glimpse of one of the party's recent arrivals, he resigned himself to the main task of the evening. He'd never been fond of big social functions -- he'd much rather be in his workshop! -- but he did recognize their importance, and knew that some of his Claremont colleagues would be upset if he did not show and 'mingle' with them. And if Princess Thaelia was there, well, then he definitely had to make an appearance. He withdrew some crystalline rods and metal rings from his bandolier and assembled them into something like a tuning fork, channeled a bit of his own personal arcane energies into it, and used the energy field it now emitted to reshape his "false orichalcum" skates into the winged gladiator sandals he typically wore while on the Surface. After replacing his components and smoothing out his clothes, the winged sandals bore him aloft towards the party. Making his way to Glamazon was about as tricky as he'd expected, but he reach her only a few moments later than he'd anticipated. "<Hail, Princess Thalassa,>" he greeted her in Atlantean, saluting her as he did. He then stood silently at attention, waiting for his social superior to acknowledge him. His time on the Surface had loosened him up some, but seeing some people brings out all the old habits.
  11. Dead Head A tall, thin figure in tattered jeans and a black hoodie with the hood up ran in, drawling, "I'm not too late, am I? I had to walk all the way from Lantern Hill, an- oh!" He skittered to a stop a few feet past the entrance, "I knew this'd be a party, but I didn't expect one this big! Well, why not," he pulled back the hood, revealing a desiccated face with skin the color of a three day old bruise, a rictus grin, and long, unkempt white hair, "the more, the merrier!" The strange figure began circulating around the crowd, offering smiles and hearty handshakes to all. Newer heroes were likely perplexed by this, but more experienced ones welcomed the remarkable revenant, asking how he'd been since he'd moved out to Bedlam four years ago. "Oh, it's a fine place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there -- and I don't!" He slowly made his way over to the other unbothered undead in the room, waving, "Hey, Kimber! Long time, no see!"
  12. Horrorshow "HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK!" echoed through the second floor nursery, amidst giggles and squeals of delight. The creature looked vaguely like a goose, with six heads and twelve wings, flapping and flopping before a group of engrossed children. "Fiiive golden rings," the six heads hissed, nearly simultaneously, and the goose bast's form stretched and warped, shifting into a legless, five headed, golden-scaled hydra. Each head curled down to form a great hoop with its neck, then slowly rotated so all the children could see. A few of the more adventurous toddlers reached out to grasp at the serpent's tail, or to wing from the loops of his coils, which the shapeshifter allowed, after some teasing avoidance. "Four calling birdsss," the five heads hissed simultaneously, just before collapsing into a pile of noodles which coiled and reshaped itself into four common blackbirds. On and on this went, the animals posing and playing with the children a bit, then merging and shifting into three French hens, then two turtle doves, and finally an Ent-like pear tree with a partridge perched atop it. "Alright, kids," he said after shifting back to something more like his true form, though looking more plasticine-y than usual, "next verse is 'seven swans a-swimming'. Now," he tapped his chin and looked to the children, "how should I make that different from the six geese a-laying? Oh!," he snapped his fingers, then motioned the kids to back away a bit, "this one's going to require a bit of room..." He then crouched down and wrapped his arms around his knees, then his body slowly widened and smoothed out, becoming a large tub filled with cherry jello-o, from which seven swans emerged.
  13. Refreshments were to be expected at any sort of holiday celebration, and the League's party was no exception. Since more heroes than not were of the age of majority, various alcoholic beverages were offered, at a long bar set near one wall. Everything from simple beers and wines to complex cocktails were offered, the later being made by a six-and-a-half foot tall golden robot with glowing green optics. This was not some kitchen-bot created by Daedalus, though -- this was Protectron, former mascot of The Lab and current defender of Emerald City! "I can offer you a variety of non-alcoholic 'mocktails'," Protectron was saying to one figure, "which offer comparable taste sensations without the deleterious inebriating effects produced by the consumption of ethanol." Protectron prepared a drink while talking, a mix of ginger ale, pineapple juice, and white grape juice, served in a chilled champagne flute.
  14. Horrorshow Davyd gazed up at Lulu, and 'T-pose to assert dominance' echoed briefly through Davyd's head as a few years of memes rolled through. Focus, Dayv, focus. "Ah, so no real idea what's on the other side," he replied with a nod, leaping up and across the rocks on caprine legs to reach Veronica's level. "Might be wise to prepare for the worst, then." His body swelled with enhanced musculature, his skin shifted to a vibrant crimson & took on the glossy sheen of chitin, and claws and a lashing tail smoothly slid into view. "Rrready when you arrre," he growled.

  17. Horrorshow "A portal to the Lost World?!" Davyd grinned, wider than any human should be capable of, "I could get some great footage for Danger Media!" He cleared his throat, then began narrating in a calm, Attenboughian tone, "here, in a remote valley nestled in the Himalyan mountains, behind this majestic waterfall, likes a portal to a land which time forgot. Here, a staggering array of plants and animals -- most not seen anywhere else on Earth for tens of millions of years -- lead lives which interlock in such a way that they sustain a rich and varied ecosystem. What might we learn from this fragment of the past, and how might it inform our stewardship of this world moving forward? I'm Davyd Antonenko, and on this episdoe of Mundane & Marvelous, we explore this misplaced microcosm, this Lost Worl- oh... oh, wait." He paused, shook his head, "wait, did the D.I. scientists know that was here? No, no, they would have mentioned that. So," he grimaced, "they must have stumbled across it. They wouldn't be totally unprepared, but..." He looked to Veronica, to Lulu, and back to Veronica.
  18. Horrorshow Davyd smoothly shifted to his human form, taking a moment to flex his jaw and fingers to make sure he'd gotten them back into proper morphology. He appeared to be dressed in brown hiking gear, similar to what Veronica was wearing, though with a prominent "PRESS" on the front and back -- as one might see on journalist's body armor -- and a smaller Danger Media logo above. He approached the backpack with one hand outstretched, then paused and withdrew his hand. "Hey, Veronica, you think Rex might have left a note or clue inside his-," he started, before noticing that she was focused on... something. "You spot something with that 'third eye' of yours?" He waved at Lulu to draw her attention, then pointed towards Veronica.

  24. Horrorshow Davyd was mostly focused on tracking Rex's scenet, but a part of him could not help but feel bad for Lulu. All Claremont alumni had spent some time under the effects of power limiters, either to tamp down uncontrollably flaring powers or while training under "extreme conditions," so he knew how uncomfortable those things could be. (Especially ones made by a government that did not have the best track record on the comfort and well-being of foreigners, metahumans, or foreign metahumans.) For him, wearing one had felt like being bound in a straitjacket, and he imagined that for her, it would be like wearing blinders and earmuffs and noseplugs. He thanked his lucky stars that he was not bound by one of those, a feat attrbuted to his Danger Media work credentials, Veronica's diplomacy, and his own underplaying of his abilities. And if their collar didn't work on me, because of my hybrid nature, I'd really rather not have to explain it's because I'm part Grue, that would just open up several more cans of worms! He paused and sniffed the air, the ground, then the air again, and waved a paw towards the waterfalls in the distance.
  25. Certainly! He's got Skill Mastery with Notice, and that's at +14, so that gets him a 24.
