  1. The red-headed angel android takes heavy fire from the teenaged speedster. Before she has even landed, Velocity has thrown marbles as effectively as most soldiers could handle a submachine gun. She crashes into the ground, and all she can do is wobble to her feet. Despite the grievous damage done to her, she is still active, a testament to the solid construction that Doc Otaku has exercised. Sparks are flying from her torso, and she focuses on Velocity with her single functional eye.
  2. Correction: Between the critical and autofire, Velocity's save DC was 32. Ako is staggered and stunned, so the Emissary gets to go before any of the androids take an action.

    The job

Heavy pauses before he speaks. It still doesn't feel right. The more people who know what his voice sounds like, the more people who could identify him later. But if there's anyone who he owes answers, it's Adam Kirk (or those other people's next of kin, a little voice in the back of his head whispers). "The demon is gone. I'm taking you back to your mansion," Heavy says to Kirk. "It's... there's been an explosion there. It wasn't me, but it was someone I brought there. I didn't know what sort of man he was." He's quiet for a short while, and Kirk might speak up again. After a moment of silence, he'll continue, "People died there. I'm not a good man. I came after you to kidnap you, but I wasn't going to let that thing kill you. I don't kill people." He sounds like he wants Kirk to believe him, and that he's convincing himself as much as he is convincing Kirk.
  4. Correct; Ako does act before the Emissary. The post is going up tonight (within 20 minutes of this post, in fact).
  5. And to be clear on my part, Hub isn't able to look with his Super-Senses and heal someone in the same round. He had to change to the AP containing the Super-Senses from the Boost AP. Preparing means that he'll be switching to the Healing AP next turn. Until then, he still has use of the Super-Senses if someone should get injured more severely than Red Star.
  6. While the elves don't lower their weapons, they don't look like they're about to attack Sen or Nightrival right now. The female elf holds up her hands and a nimbus of energy shimmers around her. It doesn't seem to have any effect on Sen or Nightrival, but it's not clear what it did do. She moves warily toward Sen. "What is it that you want of me?" she asks him. "You do not look like the kind of person who seeks us out - neither of you do."
  7. Sen's Knowledge check wasn't enough to hit the DC, but both of you succeeded on the Sense Motive check. The elves were surprised by the two of you coming up on them, and they reacted in a coordinated fashion based on the threat that you could have posed, having come from two directions to block off their escape. That neither of you have weapons drawn and don't appear to be wizards is working in your favor. Overall, they are roughly between Sen and Nightrival in terms of offensive and defensive skill, with the exception of the female elf who is Nightrival's level or slightly higher. The two of them could probably defeat her working together, but it would be hard (extremely hard with the other elves also joining in).
  8. It would be game time, which is typically the same as real time except in the middle of threads. However, there's nothing that requires the research and crafting to be continuous. Quark can be working on something part-time while he goes out on adventures (and remember, since the adventures happen in game-time, a three-day adventure in game time can easily cover a whole month, leaving you 27 or 28 days to work on the invention).
  9. Penetrates Concealment requires 4 ranks of Super-Senses. The flaw on Super-Senses ("only penetrates own powers") reduces the cost of Super-Senses to 1 pp/2 ranks, but you still need to buy all four ranks. That means it costs 2 pp. By removing Dynamic, you've reduced your array by 2 pp, so you still need to remove 1 pp from something to even up your total.
  10. It took me a couple of reads, since I don't see Gestalt very often, but it looks like everything here is in order. I have a couple questions which are more story-related than mechanical in nature. 1) Why does the Shadow Man gestalt form not understand Dark Mind when both Kurt and Rip do understand it? I am presuming that Rip's native language is Dark Mind, since Kurt's story notes that Rip taught it to him. This also means that Rip can only speak with and understand Kurt. 2) The Communication Link power only works in a single dimension. If Rip is in Kurt's Dimensional Pocket, it won't work. 3) It seems strange that the Claremont Academy would offer him a full scholarship unless he's somewhat known as a metahuman. Do they know his secret?
  11. Currently, you have 29 pp of powers. The array is 19 pp, Super-Movement is 6 pp, Super-Senses is 2 pp (4 ranks with the Limited flaw), and Leaping 2 is 2 pp. This puts you 3 pp over your total cost. The water spear can only have two ranks of Improved Critical, per our house rules. The only two powers which can be used dynamically are the water spear and the Morph. Is that what was intended? I also filled in some blanks within your combat section and corrected his grapple modifier.
  12. You and me both, buddy. I'll blame flu season, and sunspots.
  13. Good thing that by that time, Heavy will be gone and a completely different villain named Icarus will be hanging out. :D
  14. I suspect that this will be a two-post topic, but do you still intend to continue the corresponding IC thread?
  15. Both of you guys can give me a Knowledge (arcane lore) check if it's trained. You can also have a Sense Motive check to gauge how likely the elves are to attack (which also counts as a use of Assessment for those who have the feat).
  16. The elves immediately look up to where Sen has shouted to them. They also see Nightrival coming from the other direction, and the ones closest to the two men draw longbows and nock an arrow. Two aim at Nightrival, and two aim at Sen. They aren't firing yet, but they aren't looking like they're happy to see customers. "Halt, both of you!" an elf shouts. She stands in the middle of the carvan, and she has no weapon drawn herself. Despite that, she seems as dangerous or more than the ones with bows and arrows. "I am not from this world," Slathliss says. He lies out on the grass and stretches, sunning himself while waiting for the others to return. "I found my way here from the Terminus, where I was taken against my will. It has changed me, as it changes all who enter it. I can understand and be understood by everyone I speak to, and everyone sees me as one of their own species. I look like an elf to the elves, a gnome to the gnomes... though a giant gnome, which has caused me some trouble." "I just saw what you really are," Kevin says. "One of the Serpent people, aren't you." It isn't phrased as a question. Slathliss shrugs, "We don't call ourselves that. On our world, we'd call you a pink-monkey person." He props himself up by the shoulders and looks over to Kevin. "You fear snakes. Your kind, that is. I don't like looking different to everyone, but I'm glad that I'm not hated for what I look like." Slathliss's words hit Kevin pretty hard. What he's saying sounds a lot like what he's heard from some of his teammates growing up in Texas. Attitudes are changing for the better, but there's still some people with old-fashioned racist attitudes. He hasn't been treating Slathliss very well; is he acting more like those bigots? He falls into silence as he thinks.
  17. With all of his clothes back on, Kevin does one last quick check to make sure his uniform isn't sticking out anywhere. That done, he looks around the room with his chi vision to see if anyone is injured. It looks like only one person is (besides the villains), and he moves out from behind the display. The viridian green fades from his eyes as he prepares to heal the injured man, who appears to be glowing a red that's the exact chromatic opposite of his own energy.
  18. Both Velocity and the Emissary glance up at the same time. Dimly, the rocket-red burn of jet boots can be seen above. Daedalus uses gravitic technology, and no other heroes in battlesuits have been in Freedom City for some time. They can strain their eyes, only to see that coming down towards them is Doc Otaku in his mecha, riding some sort of oversized flying surfboard bristling with gunports. "Greetings, new Freedom Leaguers! I heard that you were new recruits, and I wanted to make sure that they hadn't lowered your standards!" Otaku cries out. The villain hovers above them. He seems to be waiting for a response from them... or as Velocity sees, for something else. Velocity's visor helps her pick up the secondary threats - namely, Otaku's trio of terror, the Angel Androids. The three pseudo-girls are coming in like missiles from opposite directions, looking like they're trying to surround the heroes.
  19. I don't even need to roll initiative for Doc Otaku; there's no way for him to exceed what you two have already rolled. Amazingly, one of the Angel Androids did beat the Emissary, despite needing a natural 20 to do so. The order is: Velocity Ako Emissary Aki Aya Doc Otaku Currently, Doc Otaku is 250 feet in the air directly above where Velocity and the Emissary are standing. The androids are coming in from three opposite directions, looking like they'll each be landing about 30 feet from the heroes' position.
  20. VM, are you still with us here? I'm stunned, so that is why you aren't seeing anything from me lately.
  21. Hey, no sorrow here. I'm happy that it's finally finishing up. I'd like one more post from you, if possible, to give Kirk's reaction. I might be spending some PP in the future to buy this place as a headquarters.

    The job

Heavy staggers to his feet. He shakes his head as he listens to the words of the demon again. "See, there's another benefit to being a villain. The heroes don't go and threaten to get your soul," he says to himself. He's tired from his exertions, and using the suit in ways that it was never intended. But then he looks over to Adam Kirk, and he knows that tonight, he won't have any trouble sleeping despite the demon's threat. This was the right thing to do, which isn't usually what he can say about his actions. What's more, he's also got the remnants of the demon's lair to use for himself. This might bear some looking into... Heavy lifts Kirk up and puts him over his shoulder. He begins to fly out of the lair, hoping that he'll have a chance to speak with Kirk before he drops him off again.
  23. He does not need Subtle on his Container. The Container is as noticeable as the powers which it contains. All of those powers are passive effects, so they can't be noticed except by appropriate Super-Senses (though their effects can be deduced with normal senses, given enough evidence).
