  1. Victoria didn’t miss the way the woman held herself. Nor did she miss the fact that the woman had gotten close enough to tap her on the shoulder without her noticing. There’s a moment of tension as she turns to face the blonde, and behind those sunglasses, her eyes narrowed just the slightest amount. Friend or foe? “The right ones.” She replied, “All depends on the circumstances.” She was still on edge. This was, broadly, what she’d expect from a Guardian contact – but she had only really met Master Wen before now, and this woman was about as far from the wizened old man as you could get. Then again, her only interactions with the Katanarchists had been in the form of sudden, impossibly silent, attempts to end her life. This wasn’t one of those, either. That tap on the shoulder hadn’t had a single knife involved. “You should be careful touching people around here.” She said, conversationally. “I hear it’s a rough area. All sorts of dangerous folks who might overreact.”
  2. Friend or foe? 1d20+19 = 39 (First ever roll and I get a nat 20?! Must be... fate!)
  3. Hey Supercape! Can I roll a Sense Motive check to determine whether this woman is friend or foe, or is that not necessary?
  4. Poor David. Victoria’s long-suffering PA is going to get a nervous breakdown if she keeps rescheduling things on him at the last minute, but she can’t turn down the request and she can’t bring him with her. Whilst they had been scheduled for a very important meeting this afternoon, she was sure that he could handle it in her stead. The Katanarchists were something she couldn’t ignore. Stepping out of a taxi, Victoria has worked hard to dress down. A shapeless grey hoodie-and-jeans combo with comfortable sneakers is unlikely to get a second glance. Couple it with big (circular) shades, hoop earrings and a ying-yang symbol on the chest, and she’s arguably going overboard on the circles. Normally, she’d just show the Wheel amulet that Master Wen had gifted her – but she’s not a total idiot. If the Katanarchists were in motion in this area, she might as well wear a target on her back. Even as things were, she couldn’t help but feel nervous. This could be an elaborate setup. She pays for her cab, giving a generous tip for the driver’s trouble, and then walks slowly towards the club, measured steps trying not to show her nervousness and increasing paranoia as she scans the street. Worried man, largely being ignored by an uncaring populace. Tall young man taking an interest. No immediate signs of ninja. That probably meant they’d attack at any moment.

  6. Incognito “Take the rest of the day off, David. You’ve earned it.” The argument that those words had caused was one of the most polite and bizarre in Victoria’s life. Weren’t people supposed to want time off? But no. David wanted to make sure that she was okay, that she could handle her afternoon meetings without him, that she wasn’t going to drop the ball. By the time she finally convinced him to go, it was already past the time she should have been logged on to that discrete meeting site. She’d practiced this. How was it supposed to work, again? In #general There was a lot of information there. A LOT of information. Victoria took it in as quickly as she could, resisting the urge to skimread and trying not to get flustered by the fact that the chat kept moving even as she worked to catch back up on the scrolling text. It felt strange to see people talking so openly about these things. There was always that tiny part of her that worried it might be some elaborate trap, but ultimately, she had to accept that her ability to locate and discern threats was limited. A wider network of contacts could only be a good thing. She just had to trust that it wasn’t going to be compromised. After several minutes of reading, she took a deep breath, and opened up. In #general In #herostuff After all that typing, Victoria set back in her chair and exhaled. Her eyebrows were already deeply furrowed and her jaw hurt where she’d been clenching her jaw. These were three potentially very complex situations, and she could only hope her insight was useful. It was ... surprising, how stressful just writing some text could be.
  7. I think this sounds wicked cool! ... But it also seems like something Incognito should be established for before jumping right in, so I might try and hit you guys up in a few months if that's cool?
  8. Incognito – Transcript, Part 2 of 6, Franklin Jefferson Interview given 27th March 2018. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Okay, we’re back. Just to reiterate, this is being recorded. Anything you say here may be presented in evidence should your case go to trial. FRANKLIN: I understand. DETECTIVE DANIELS: For the tape, can we just reiterate who we are? I am Detective David Daniels, Freedom City Police Department. FRANKLIN: Franklin Jefferson. GARETH: William Gareth, Franklin’s attorney. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Great. Franklin, are you happy that you’ve had enough time to discuss everything you need to with your attorney? FRANKLIN: Sure. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Great, that’s great. Was there anything you wanted to add after the break? And, just again, if you feel like you need another break, just speak up. We’ve got plenty of time. Don’t feel rushed. FRANKLIN: Nah, I’m good. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Great. Now, Franklin, I just wanted to talk again about the woman who convinced you to turn yourself in. FRANKLIN: I already told you everything I know. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Sure, but could we go over it again? What did she look like? FRANKLIN: Man, I don’t know. Tall? For a chick, I guess? DETECTIVE DANIELS: How tall? FRANKLIN: About as tall as you, maybe a little taller. She was real strong, though. Real strong. When she cracked Jules on the jaw, he just went down, man. DETECTIVE DANIELS: You’re referring to Julius Barnes? FRANKLIN: (hesitates) Yeah. Julius. Anyway, she just came out of nowhere. One minute we were about to break down the back door, then suddenly she was just, there, man. DETECTIVE DANIELS: You said before she was wearing a costume, can you describe it for me? FRANKLIN: Grey. It was made of that material you see all the supers on TV wearing. Oh, and she had a cape. And a big question mark on her face. DETECTIVE DANIELS: A question mark? FRANKLIN: Yeah. I thought that was weird. But I wasn’t expecting a cape, you know? We were small fry. DETECTIVE DANIELS: You said before she knocked the other two out quickly. Do you have any idea why she didn’t do the same to you? GARETH: (Interrupting) My client has already answered these questions. FRANKLIN: Yeah, man, but, look, I don’t know. I’ve been thinking about it. DETECTIVE DANIELS: What have you been thinking, Franklin? FRANKLIN: Look. I didn’t want to get into this stuff. That wasn’t, I mean, I wanted to stay away from crime. That’s why I joined Sifu Ferguson’s after school class. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Right? FRANKLIN: Anyway, after the other two were KO’d, she did the bow. DETECTIVE DANIELS: The bow? FRANKLIN: In class, we’d always bow to each other before a sparring match. It’s a respect thing. Like, you’re saying to the other person that you… I don’t know, you see them or something. I liked that. DETECTIVE DANIELS: So, what did you do? FRANKLIN: I bowed. DETECTIVE DANIELS: And then she attacked you? FRANKLIN: No, man. She waited for me to make the first move. So I did, like Ferguson taught us. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Right. FRANKLIN: (laughing) Man, she was something else. I couldn’t touch her. Anyway. After a few seconds, she starts hitting me back. Not, like, hard, but like she’s showing me where the holes in my guard are. DETECTIVE DANIELS: She wasn’t trying to hurt you? FRANKLIN: Man, it stung like a (expletive omitted) but no. If she wanted to knock me out, she coulda done it in a second. Anyway. After a bit, she knocks me to the ground and she says, ‘You could be better’. DETECTIVE DANIELS: That was it? FRANKLIN: Man. Look. When I graduated, I couldn’t get a job. I couldn’t do nothing. My Dad ain’t around. My Mom couldn’t make rent. DETECTIVE DANIELS: I’m sorry to hear that, but I don’t under- A loud bang FRANKLIN: Of course you don’t! DETECTIVE DANIELS: Please, stay calm, there’s no need to get agitated. FRANKLIN: I got what she was saying, okay? I wanted to be a better person. I wanted to be someone I could respect. I didn’t want to do this (expletive deleted) any more. DETECTIVE DANIELS: You mean, work for Mr. Perregrino? GARETH: (interrupting) My client is not willing to discuss that until we’ve discussed the terms of his plea bargain. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Is that true, Franklin? Are you only going to help us if we help you? FRANKLIN: (muttering) I wanted to be better, okay? I made mistakes, but I wanted to be better. She did that for me. GARETH: I think we should take another break. DETECTIVE DANIELS: Sure. We’ll just stop the tape there for now.
  9. Incognito Gather Information DC 10: Victoria Gold is an heiress to the Gold family fortune. Headlines were made in 2017 when her mother and father – Tyrone and Juliet Gold – were exposed as having used the Gold Corporation as a front for multiple criminal activities. Whilst the stock price plummeted, her personal net worth – and that of her siblings – is still estimated to be in the millions of dollars. DC 15: Victoria spoke passionately in court against her parents and has made accusations against her siblings’ complicity in illegal activities. She has all but disappeared from the public eye since the trial. Victoria’s brother, Jacob Gold, once stated in an interview that ‘Vicky is the scary one … all the Golds hold a grudge, but Vicky will break bones’. DC 20: Victoria’s money has been used, since January 2018, to fund various charitable projects across Freedom City – particularly a drug education and rehabilitation project called StreetSafe aimed at inner city communities. DC 25: Victoria went traveling shortly after her parent’s incarceration in March 2017 and did not return until January 2018. She visited several locations, the last one being Tibet. Victoria’s previous projects were focused around supporting martial arts dojos and school clubs nationwide, which seemed to be a genuine passion. All funding to those projects was cut off by May 2017. DC 30: Victoria’s martial arts projects were found to be a recruiting ground for numerous organised crime and criminal organisations who needed well-trained muscle. Victoria was briefly arrested after one of the ‘instructors’ accused her of donning a mask, breaking into his house, and beating him badly. No charges were ever filed.

Introduction Who are you? Sum yourself up in one sentence. I’m someone who can’t be summed up in one sentence. Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, or nom de plume? Yes. What is your full birth name? Victoria Gold. Where do you live? Freedom City. How old are you? What year were you born (if applicable)? I’m 25. Physical Traits What is your gender? If not applicable, please explain. I’m a woman. How would you describe your heritage? A millstone around my neck. How tall are you? 5’9. What is your body type? Muscular, I guess? Do you have any particular weaknesses, such as allergies or physical disabilities? I have weaknesses. They aren’t physical. How do you carry yourself? Are you graceful, or heavy on your feet? Can you be stealthy, do you walk with confidence? I carry myself as the situation demands. Sometimes that means standing out from the crowd. Sometimes that means being invisible. Describe your skin, eye, and hair color. Dark, on all counts. How do you wear your hair, if applicable? Do you have facial hair? Short. I don’t like it getting in the way. Do you consider yourself attractive? Do others? I’m comfortable with myself. I’ve had lovers, I hope they found me attractive, otherwise they were much better liars than I thought. Do you have any scars, tattoos, piercings, or birthmarks? I’ve pierced my ears. Do you resemble anyone famous? No. Do you have a dominant hand? Right. What kind of clothing do you wear? Practical. Do you wear makeup? Sometimes. What is your vocal range? Is your voice distinctive in some way? I am not a singer. Do you have any distinctive habits, nervous tics, or mannerisms? Where did they come from, and what causes them? Do other people notice and remark on these habits? Do they annoy you or other people? I’m told that I can come across as standoffish, and I tend to stare. Eye contact is a good way of getting a solid read on someone, but you shouldn’t neglect other aspects of body language. When I get angry, my voice gets quieter. Dad used to shout a lot when he got angry. I always saw it as a weakness. I suppose I overcompensate. History Where do you come from? Freedom City. Go Heroes. Have you made any major moves, or do you live in your hometown? I’ve been all over the world, but Freedom City is home. Do you feel loyal to your country of citizenship? Do you consider yourself patriotic? How do you feel about the government of your country? That’s a complicated set of questions. Sure, I’m American, and I’m proud of our country in a lot of ways. I also feel like we could do more to help ourselves and others, and I feel loyalty towards all the world, not just where I happen to have been born. How do you feel about the place you come from? Proud? I don’t know. I love this city, but there’s a lot of pain here, too. Where is your home town? What was/is it like? Freedom City. Where the best and worst live side by side. Growing up, were most of the people you knew similar to you, or were you somehow a minority? How did that affect you? I’m African American, so I suppose in that sense, yes, I was a minority. We were also highly privileged, and there’s not many black faces in the super elite. I had a fairly solitary childhood, though. I hated the facades people in my peer group tended to put on. I was closest to my siblings. Not so much any more. Is there something you've always been really good at or really bad at? How has that affected your life? Martial arts is my passion. When I was a kid, I dreamed of competing at the Olympics. I would probably take gold. I could definitely do it now, but that’d be… counterproductive to my long-term goals. If I hadn’t found martial arts I’d probably be like my brother and sister. It wasn’t the physical aspect that saved me from that; it was the discipline. Learning to see the truly important things in life and not allow yourself to be ruled by your emotions, your wants and desires, those things were important. They’ve made me who I am. It isn’t just ‘what I do’. Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age)? No. I had a very pampered childhood. I was indulged in everything I wanted. I was, upset, when my Dad forbade me from going to the Olympics, but to describe that as trauma? No. I’ve seen trauma. Briefly describe a defining moment in your childhood and how it influenced your life. Jacob, my older brother, picked a fight with me. I broke his arm in three places. That taught me that I had to be careful, lest I go further than I should. It also taught me that there are bullies in the world, and I had the strength to stand up to them. What stupid things did you do when you were younger? Did you read the answer to the last question? Three places. He’s never forgiven me. I could have just restrained him, but I was young and wanted to prove a point. Where did you go to school? How much school did you have, and did you enjoy it? I was homeschooled. It was miserable. Do you have any mementos of your childhood? What are they, and why did you keep them? If you have none, why not? No. After my father’s true business was exposed, I burned them. There’s nothing from that time which isn’t tainted. When did you decide to become a hero? Why? Did anyone influence you one way or another in the decision? I was attacked by the Katanarchists whilst climbing the Lhotse mountain in Tibet. I think that I had been searching for the confidence to make the decision to do my part before then, but finding that I was able to handle myself against those ninja helped to solidify in my mind that I could do it. Master Wen was instrumental in helping me decide that it was the right thing to do. Fate brings us together for a reason; it gives us the tools we need, but it is up to us to choose to use them. Is the reason you give people for becoming a hero different than your real reason? If so, why? I don’t tell people why I became a hero. It isn’t any of their business. Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt you? Hah. My secrets are public domain. Google ‘Victoria Gold’, you’ll see. Do you represent yourself as being different from who you really are? Why? Hnn. Fine. Yes. I make it clear in public that I don’t condone my family’s actions and I am disgusted by them, but I don’t own up to the fact that I am trying to make the world a better place. If people knew that Victoria Gold was a good person, that would help to rehabilitate the Gold ‘brand’. That is not deserved. I do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. I don’t want praise or fame, and I really don’t want my family to benefit from my good works in any way. If you do have these secrets, what do you fear would happen if the truth became known? How far would you go to protect those secrets? I suppose the real ‘secret’ that I have left to protect is the fact that I don’t make my heroic life public. How far would I go to protect it? I suppose that depends on the circumstances. I would never hurt someone, but I would explain my reasons. Hopefully they would understand. If villains think they can get at me by targeting my family they are sorely mistaken. Do you have any sort of criminal record? If so, is it public knowledge? No. No charges were proved against me. I am a ‘person of interest’, however. Family What are your biological parents' names? Tyrone and Juliet. Were you raised by them? If not, please explain and describe who raised you. There were a lot of helpers, but yes, they were involved in the parts which weren’t unsanitary. What was their standing in the community? What did/do they do for a living? They were seen as true pillars of the community; philanthropists and successful businesspeople who gave back. The Gold name is still worth a sizeable fortune, thanks to the Gold Corporation. They were actually both corrupt and working with organised crime of all stripes. It makes me sick. Where are your parents now? Prison. Hopefully for a long time. Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot? We were based in Freedom City, but we travelled the world. How did you get along with your parents? How do you get along with them now (if applicable). Growing up? I was in awe. They were everything I wanted to be and more. Now? If I saw them outside of prison it would take a lot of self-restraint not to hurt them. How do your parents view you now, or how would they? I don’t care. Why don’t you ask them? Do you have any siblings? If so how many and what are their names? Describe your relationship with them. Jacob and Valerie. Jacob has never forgiven me for ‘humiliating’ him in front of his friends when we were kids and he tried to hit me. He’s a worm. He would do anything to make our father proud of him, and wants nothing more than to take his place, even if that means working with the scum of the Earth. Valerie is as cold and calculating as a snake. She’s smart, too. A lot smarter than me. Maybe even smarter than my parents. She, scares me. I know what Jacob is doing. I worry about Valerie. What was your birth order in the family? I’m the middle child. Where are your siblings now (if applicable)? Do they have families of their own? What do they do? Jacob has a son, a young boy, and I believe a second child is on the way. He is busily trying to hold the Corporation together rather than let it crash and burn. He’s working with some of the same people my father used to, but I haven’t found any conclusive evidence, yet. I just know it. Valerie? I think she’s probably eaten the heads of every lover she’s had before they could finish the act. Do you stay in touch with them or have you become estranged? What do you think? Do you love or hate one member of the family in particular? My Dad. I loved him. I respected him. I thought we were making the world a better place. I thought I knew him. It, hurts, that he betrayed me. Us. The community he was supposed to serve. I don’t want to talk about this. Is any member of the family special to you in any way (perhaps, as a confidant, mentor, or arch-rival)? No. Are there any black (or white) sheep in the family (including you)? If so, please explain. I am the black sheep. I’m the only member who isn’t a total scumbag. Do you have a notorious or celebrated ancestor? If so, please explain, including how it has affected your life. We’re all fairly notorious at this point, I guess. None of us escaped the scandal unscathed. Tyrone Gold is probably one of the most hated businessmen in America right now. Do you have a partner and children currently? If so, please describe them. No, I don’t. If you do not have a partner or children, do you want them someday? How firm are you in your opinion on this, and what might change your mind? I don’t want children right now, and I’m not in the right headspace for romance. Check in again in a few years. What type of person would be your ideal mate? ‘Mate’? way to make it sound romantic. Someone I don’t have to worry about 24/7 would be a good start. Someone I could trust enough to confide in about all the parts of my life. Someone with an interest in martial arts, almost certainly. Someone who doesn’t care about my money at all. Someone who can make me believe in families again. So, basically, an impossible person who doesn’t exist and never could. Relationships Do you have any close friends? If so, please describe them, and how you came to be close to them. I have few friends. I’m very judgemental, and I know people too well. Do you have a best friend? If so, how did they become your best friend? How close are you to your best friend? Master Wen isn’t exactly a friend, so he’s out. I suppose that leaves David. He’s my personal assistant, and has been for the past eight years. He’s a good man. I, hope, that it isn’t weird that my best friend is someone I pay a good wage. Ugh. Now I’m sounding pathetic. If you were to go missing, who would worry about you? There’s a lot of people whose paychecks come out of my bank account. Have you lost any loves? If so, how did it happen, and what did you do? I’ve had a lot of relationships. In the past, my focus on my training tended to push them away; people are very superficial, and when I was young I was selfishly absorbed in my own betterment. I didn’t make enough room for people. I did what any teenager or 20-something who lives with their parents does when they lose a love. I ate hagen-daags, cried, and watched stupid movies with my Mom. Do you have any bitter enemies? If so, please describe them and their history with you. Please see the ‘Family’ section. I’m also engaged in a shadow-war against the Katanarchists. As a Guardian of the Wheel it is vital that we take away their ability to continue to wield the mystical forces of the earth for their own ends. If you have enemies, how do you think they might attempt to work against you in the future? I hope and pray that the Katanarchists consider the Golds to be beneath them. My family might well come after me with the usual mob tactics; intimidation, blackmail, carbombs, assassins. I don’t think our shared blood will stop it being shed if they think I’m going to put them behind bars, or keep them there. The Katanarchists? As the name suggests, they are unpredictable. I check to make sure that my toothbrush hasn’t turned into a viper every morning. What is the worst thing someone has done to you? My father’s systematic deception and betrayal of everything we were supposed to stand for, perpetrated over my entire lifetime. Where do your loyalties lie? In what order? The Guardians of the Wheel first, I would die for them if needed, the Wheel must continue to turn. Then the people. Ideals are all very well and good, but my first concern, now, is to protect civilians. If we fail in that, nothing else matters. Who or what do you trust the most? Why? I trust my body. I know precisely what I am capable of. Who or what do you despise? Why? I have a lot of anger. As you may have noticed, my father probably takes that position, for the reasons outlined above. What qualities do you admire most in other people? Are these qualities you possess? Intelligence. There are people in the world who see so much more than I do. I often feel like I am barely capable of scratching the surface. My brain is my weakest muscle. What qualities do you hate most in other people? Do you have any of those qualities? I mentioned earlier that I am judgemental. There are a lot of qualities I hate. The main one, though, would be sadism. There are people in the world who enjoy hurting others just for the sake of the pain it causes. If there is anything more disgusting, I have yet to find it. Do you have a secret identity? If so, who knows it? Do you hide it from people who are close to you? Why? Yes, I have a secret identity. Master Wen knows it. Nobody else. I don’t want my family name being rehabilitated through my actions. Do you work well on teams and in groups? Are you a leader or a follower? I am best at one-on-one combat. When I have the opportunity to fight one other person, hand to hand, I have yet to be beaten by anyone other than Master Wen. That said, teamwork is important and I do not allow my pride to cloud my judgement. I don’t have a huge amount of experience yet, but I am certain I will run into many people whom also work to protect the City and its people. Are you on a super team? If so, how do you get along with your comrades? Do you trust them, or do you have secrets from them? I am not. Are you a member of any church, fraternal organization, club, committee, political party, or other group? How much time do you spend on that? I am a member of the Guardians of the Wheel. We are pretty underground. You probably haven’t heard of us. Personality & Beliefs Who are your heroes? When I was a little girl, I loved The Freedom League. Who doesn’t? Did you ever become disillusioned with former heroes or idols? If so, why and what were the circumstances? Other than my father? No. Not specifically. I fell out of love with the idea of heroes as I grew up. My father used to say that the best way to help people was through our programs, not being vigilantes. Just one more lie. Do you like being a hero? If so, what is the most rewarding part? If not, what makes you keep doing it? Another difficult question. Yes, I like the satisfaction which comes with directly helping people. Every thug I put behind bars is one that isn’t on the streets preying on people. That’s great. I hate the fact that some people feel like they have a right to know everything about the people who work to protect them. I’m not doing this for fun. I’m not doing it because someone asked me to. I don’t want thanks or fame. I want to make the world a better place. Is there anything that would make you give up hero work, or even switch sides? I’ll give up hero work when the world is safe. Switch sides? I’d rather die. What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a year)? Expose Jacob’s activities, drive a stake through the heart of the Gold Corporation, and figure out what the Katanarchists are up to. What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years from now)? Put the rest of my family behind bars, keep them there, and destroy the Katanarchists. What is your greatest fear? Why? What do you do when something triggers this fear? The idea of a crippling injury is horrifying. The idea of not being able to fight, still being alive but being helpless, that sends shivers down my spine. You can’t let that fear stop you. You have to carry on regardless. You have to trust that you’ll be strong enough. Is there anything you would give you life for? The Wheel. How do you feel about money and material wealth? Do you desire it or disdain it? Are you miserly with what you have, or do you like to share? Is it a mark of success, or a means to an end? I’ve always had money, and I am painfully aware of the position of privilege that puts me in. Even with the damage that my family’s holdings have taken recently, I still have millions of dollars at my disposal to do with as I wish. I hate what money does to some people, but I use it as best I can. It is a tool, like any other. How do you generally treat others? I like to think I treat them with respect. I sometimes fear that I am too hard on people. Are you a trusting person? Has your trust ever been abused? No. No I am not. Please see the prior discussion about my family. Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? Do you have a lot of self-confidence? I speak when I have something to say. I am completely confident in myself. How do you act around attractive, available members of your preferred sex? Like they are fellow human beings. What are your most annoying habits? I’m stubborn as an ox when I feel like I’m in the right. Do you feel contempt for any general category of people? Who are they, and why? Rich criminals. There is no justification for preying on the weak when you never have to work another day in your life. Poor criminals don’t get any more mercy, but at least their motivation is understandable. What is your favorite food? Do you prefer any particular type of food? Do you take the time to enjoy your food, or do you eat as fast as you can? Stir fry. I’m vegetarian, and yes, I enjoy my food. The preparation and eating of it is a ritual, and it is important that we don’t lose sight of the things that ground us to the world. What is your favorite drink (alcoholic or otherwise)? I don’t drink alcohol. I don’t understand the desire to poison oneself. It sounds boring, but there’s something truly enjoyable about fresh water. What is your favorite treat (dessert)? Chocolate cake. Are there any specific foodstuffs that you find disgusting or refuse to eat? Meat. What is your favorite color? Are there any colors you dislike? Blue. I find it calming. I don’t tend to like ‘loud’, flashy colours. What sort of music do you like? Is there any that you hate? The lyrics of rap songs are often unpleasant, but there’s a beauty to the cadence of it, the skill involved, that I enjoy. Most metal leaves me cold. If you have a favorite scent, what is it? I like the smell of cooking, even if it is something I won’t eat. Do you have a favorite animal? I identify strongly with tigers. What is your most treasured possession? Why? I have a rock I brought back from Lhotse. That is a reminder of how far I have come. Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts? I live comfortably. It is what I am used to, and I do not see the point in denying myself necessities. I do not tend to go to excess. Is there a job or a task you would absolutely refuse to do? Driving. I am bad at it. Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? If so, how do your beliefs affect your life? How important is it to you? Yes. The Guardians of the Wheel are a spiritual order. We stand between the Wheel of Fate and those who would abuse it. We believe that the cosmos turns towards a better tomorrow when it is allowed to spin freely. I will be honest, I don’t fully understand all aspects of the doctrine, yet, but it has become central to my life. Was your faith influenced or molded by anyone special? Master Wen. If you belong to a religious organization, how often do you attend? Do you have a specific place of worship, or friends within the organization? How much do you agree with the beliefs of your organization? It is in every movement I make. Could you kill? Have you killed? Could I kill? Absolutely. I have the skills required to kill most people if I chose to. Have I killed? No. Would I kill? I don’t know. It is expected, eventually, that I will – the Katanarchists are dangerous monsters who will not stop – but, will I? I don’t know if I have it in me. What circumstances led to you forming that conviction, or taking that action? I’m a martial artist. I learned these skills to protect and master myself, not to kill. That they can also be put to that purpose is an undeniable fact, but could I use them for that? It is hard. Are there circumstances under which you believe it is permissible to kill? What are they? When there is no alternative to save innocent life. How would you react to watching someone kill another person? Would your reaction be different if the killer was a friend or an enemy of yours? These questions are getting quite troubling. There are too many unknowns here to give a definitive answer. I would probably knock them unconscious and turn them in to the police along with whatever evidence I could find. How would you react if something important was stolen from you? I would be angry. How would you react to public humiliation? Apparently, I’d become a costumed vigilante. How would you react if a good friend or relative were purposely or accidentally killed? Has it happened to you? I would seek justice against the perpetrator. What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why? Murder. Many crimes leave a mark, but death cannot be healed. If your life were to end in 24 hours, what five things would you do in those remaining hours? 1) Visit my parents. 2) Visit my siblings. 3) Visit Master Wen. 4) Write a will. 5) Meditate. This is assuming that all those people are within 24 hours travel. Otherwise, I would write letters. Career & Training Do you have any special training in your hero skills? If so, where and how did you get it? I have been inducted into the inner mysteries of the Guardians of the Wheel. I have also spent my entire life training in various martial arts. Who taught you the most about your heroing abilities? What was your relationship with that person? Master Wen. He is a man I respect very deeply, even if he is also … abrasive. Do you have any particularly unusual skills? How did you acquire them? I can wrestle the Wheel of Fate to turn back a mortal blow. See above. Do you do something besides hero work for a living? Have you ever done anything else, or do you plan to? I am a philanthropist. I set up my first charitable institution at the age of 16. What is your preferred combat style? The one which wins. Have you ever received any awards or honours? No. What skill areas would you like most to improve in? Is there anything you can't do that you wish desperately you could? I wish I was smarter. I often feel like I do not know as much as I should. How do you act around people who are more skilled than you in areas you'd like to improve? Are you jealous, or do you try and learn? I watch, listen, and learn. Jealousy is pointless. Lifestyle & Hobbies What is a normal day for you? How do you feel when something interrupts this routine? I wake up at 5am, and complete a two-hour workout. I then shower and get dressed before eating breakfast and meditating. This usually takes me through to 9am. At 9 I expect David to arrive. He talks me through the various meetings and news I need to be kept appraised of. There is usually some paperwork which needs to be completed or calls to make on behalf of the charitable foundations I work with. This has dropped off a little in recent days. We break for lunch at 1pm, and I spend lunch watching the local news. Afternoon meetings continue until 5pm when I let David go. After David leaves, I prepare something whilst checking for more information on my enemies and any possible movements they or their agents have made. By 6pm I am on the streets where I will continue to patrol and hunt out more information. Often, I focus on Downtown where I can interrupt criminals. I try to get back in bed between midnight and 2am. I am used to my routine being disrupted because, frankly, the work I do does not tend to go to an exact schedule. Sometimes it is necessary to travel, sometimes I have to go to fundraisers in the evening or morning. Sometimes David won’t leave because there’s a lot of work to do. Sometimes I have to leave because there’s something going on which cannot wait. I always make sure I get at least an hour of meditation a day, it is vital. Do you have any hobbies, or interests outside hero work? What are they, and where did you pick them up? Does martial arts count? No? … Okay then. What do you do for fun? I liked to travel. I suspect I won't be doing so for a while. Do you have a costume? What does it look like? Yes. It is grey, with a billowing cape, and a question mark on the mask. It covers me head to toe. It is very hot. As in, the temperature can be uncomfortable. I don’t believe many people would find it alluring. How do you normally dress when not in costume? Practically. What do you wear to bed most nights? Why do you want to know? Do you wear any special jewelry? What is it, and what does it look like? I have the aforementioned amulet. It is a small golden wheel inset with symbols that I do not yet fully understand. Do you have a special place where you keep your valuables? Close to my heart. What's your preferred means of local travel? How about long distance? I have a chauffeur. And I like flying. Miscellaneous Have you ever made a will, or tried to make arrangements for your death? What provisions did you make? I don’t have a will yet. I have been putting it off. I should probably get on that. If your features were to be destroyed beyond recognition, is there any other way of identifying your body? DNA? Fingerprints? Dental records? What would you like to be remembered for after your death? I would like to be forgotten. Do you believe you pose a threat to the public? Why or why not? No. I know myself. The public has nothing to fear. What do you perceive as your greatest strength? My martial skill. What do you perceive as your greatest weakness? My inexperience. As a player, if you could, what advice would you give your character? Speak as if he/she were sitting right here in front of you. Use proper tone so they might heed your advice... I know you’re going to ignore me anyway, but please, lighten up. You don’t have to take everything so seriously all the time.

  12. And the third member of the family, the first Supervillain-with-a-Mask, and Vicky's worst nightmare, I present... Princess Poison Power Level: 10 (180/180PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Sociopathic purveyor of poisons. Catchphrase: “Feels good, doesn’t it? No? Well it does to me.” Theme: Alice Cooper: Poison Alternate Identity: Valerie Gold (Secret) Birthplace: Freedom City Residence: Freedom City Base of Operations: Multiple Katanarchist safehouses Occupation: Drug dealer and poison maker. Affiliations: Katanarchists Family: Tyrone Gold (Father), Juliet Gold (Mother), Jacob Gold (Brother), Victoria Gold (Sister/Enemy) Description: Age: 21 Gender: Female Ethnicity: African American Height: 5’7 Weight: 133 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Valerie Gold looks like a younger Victoria Gold, with longer hair and a less imposing physique. She favours dresses and gowns whenever it is suitable for the occasion, and works hard to project an air of cheerful indifference to the many crimes her family are accused of committing. Princess Poison, her alter-ego, wears a tight-fitting lime-green bodysuit with a gasmask, and a tiny gold crown. She also has a pair of dartguns built into bracers in the bodysuit, which carry a variety of her dangerous concoctions! History: Valerie always felt like she was in the shadow of her older brother and sister. Jacob received the lion’s share of her father’s attention, as he saw in him a potential heir. Her sister was an athletic powerhouse whose focus and dedication made Valerie incredibly jealous. Valerie was a genius, pure and simple. She was smart, smarter than everyone else around her. Her mother never really saw the value in academic work, though, and so she learned to hide passion in order to try and win her parent’s approval through the talents they did value. As she grew older and still felt overshadowed by her brother – who is, it should be noted, a total idiot – Valerie grew more insular and hateful. She gave up on winning parental approval and instead set her own goals. At the age of 16 she got involved, at her mother’s insistence, with a drug program and saw first hand the damage that drugs were doing to the community. Most people would be repulsed by this, but she was fascinated by the idea of people knowingly abusing substances that would eventually kill them. The idea appealed to her, and she set her prodigious talents to the synthesis of new and exciting drugs, ‘improvements’ on the norm, which she then sold to her father’s ‘business contacts’ under the pseudonym Princess Poison. So far, this connection has gone undiscovered. As far as the world is concerned, Valerie is just another of the Gold children – the least interesting and probably the most vapid. It is possible that Valerie would have stayed beneath the radar a lot longer, if it wasn’t for her sister’s battle against the Katanarchists. The shadowy organisation knew of Valerie’s side-dealings in illicit drugs and made her an offer. They would give her access to rare ingredients, mystical protections, and the backing of the Katanarchists, if she would manufacture new and deadly poisons for them. Valerie didn’t have to think about it too hard. She accepted, and has been working with them for months to carve out her own little niche within the organisation as a purveyor of chemical weapons. Sooner or later, no doubt, the Katanarchists will pit one sister against the other. Personality & Motivation: Valerie is a sociopath who enjoys giving others the opportunity they need to hurt themselves. She takes true delight in the suffering of other people, and has little love for her family, who she mostly considers fools who dream too small. But, there is a difference between not particularly liking your family, and not caring when half of them are locked up in prison. Valerie is particularly scornful of Jacob, who she considers a worthless idiot. She doesn’t understand why her father has so much love for him when she is so clearly superior in every meaningful way. She is also nervous of Victoria. Whilst they never argued much as children, she is scared of her sister’s focus – not to mention the fact that she’s quite aware that in a straight up physical confrontation, Vicky would mop the floor with her. Since her induction into the Katanarchists, Valerie has been fascinated by some of the ingredients they have given her to work with, and the rumours she hears about the organisation and its capabilities. Who wouldn’t want to live forever? Powers & Tactics: Princess Poison relies heavily on, you guessed it, poisons! Against foes who are just immune to her toxins she doesn’t really have any other immediate tactics on hand to deal with them, but she could probably make something given time. She is also frighteningly smart, and more than capable of stacking the odds in her favour if given the space to do so. Most people assume that she’s a bookish academic, but she is very much her father’s daughter and is willing to do anything it takes to accomplish her goals. Power Descriptions: Most of the time, Princess Poison’s concoctions are delivered via dartguns in the bracers of her outfit. However, she is more than capable of carrying a few of these darts with her in her civilian guise and tossing them around if needed (which is why they haven’t been bought as a device). Her ‘protection’ is in the form of a Katanarchist amulet which she usually wears beneath her clothing. When struck, Princess Poison will shimmer brilliant green as the magic of the amulet does its work to blunt the impact. Complications: [Placeholder, put some complications here]. 13. Juliet Gold Power Level: 7 (105/105PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: +3 Attack / -3 Damage In Brief: Loving, supportive mob wife. Catchphrase: “Nothing is more important than family.” Theme: Pink Floyd - Mother Alternate Identity: None Birthplace: Freedom City Residence: Freedom City Correctional Facility Base of Operations: Freedom City Correctional Facility Occupation: Horrible human being. Affiliations: Gold Family Family: Tyrone Gold (Husband), Jacob Gold (Son), Valerie Gold (Daughter), Victoria Gold (Daughter/Enemy) Description: Age: 50 Apparent Age: Late 30s – early 40s. Gender: Female Ethnicity: African American Height: 5’5 Weight: 115 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Juliet Gold is incredibly vain, and has spent a small fortune to hold back the effects of time, with some success. She is beautiful, with high cheek bones and a long mane of rich, dark hair. Her eyes, though, somewhat ruin the effect as they are cold as ice. Though she clearly works hard to keep herself in good shape, it is just as clear that Juliet has never worked a hard day in all her life – a fact which, if questioned, she is extremely proud of. History: Juliet Gold was once Juliet Jacobs, a middle-class girl living in Freedom City with dreams of a modelling and acting career that would propel her out of her humdrum life and into something far more exciting. In many ways, she got exactly what she wanted. Somewhere along the way, though, she lost her innocence. The competitive world of professional modelling demanded a cutthroat edge that she found she took to with disturbing ease. It was whilst filming a car commercial that she met Tyrone Gold – a powerful, attractive man whose company was behind the cars. He wanted to take her out for dinner. She accepted, and found a kindred spirit – someone else who was frustrated and wanted to reach their full potential. Juliet’s family didn’t like Tyrone. They didn’t like what the money and success was doing to their daughter. She didn’t like their criticism, and so they fell out and when Juliet married Tyrone it was a Gold affair alone, not that Jack Gold was much more supportive of the union. After the death of Jack and the others, Juliet suspected that her husband had something to do with it – but didn’t ask. She wanted to focus on raising their family and enjoying the riches that had now accrued. She abandoned her career, telling herself that she was going to be the world’s best Mom instead, though in truth she was far more interested in the luxury that their money bought them. She couldn’t help but see the people that Tyrone was entertaining on a regular basis, of course, and she wasn’t a fool. Eventually, she confronted Tyrone about the fact that there were a lot of very bad people in their lives. To her surprise, he confessed everything. The murders, the crime that paid for their lavish lifestyles, the people he was working with on a near-daily basis. To his surprise, she stuck with him. More than that, she offered to help him. Whilst he focused on the business arrangements, she took care of the public face of the Gold family. She managed the PR, and kept an eye for people sniffing around where they shouldn’t. It was Juliet who identified Daniel Grey and Fred Jones as two men who were getting a little too close to the truth. She couldn’t have predicted that their deaths would be investigated so thoroughly that everything would come crashing down. Now that she’s behind bars, her only regret is that she wasn’t able to help cover the tracks a little better. Personality & Motivation: Juliet loves Tyrone and her kids – she really does – but she’s come to see the world as a very dark place. Her family turned on her, and Tyrone’s family never really accepted her either. As far as she’s concerned, the only people in the world she can rely on are Tyrone, Jacob, Valerie and Victoria. Her relationship with her children is a difficult one. She loves them, but she’s also completely blind to who they are as people. In her mind, they are now and will always be her perfect little angels. Victoria has hurt her very badly by coming out against the family, but she still hopes that she can win her back around. Vicky just needs to understand that everyone else in the world is out to get them; the Golds need to look out for each other, and if a few people get hurt in the process, that’s just the price of doing business. Powers & Tactics: Juliet has had to pick up a gun, and she’s a surprisingly good shot with it, too. She got it for self defence when she realised how dangerous her husband’s business partners really are, though she’s never actually fired it in anger she did practice religiously when she had the ability to do so. In combat, Juliet’s main role is to support others – Teamwork and Leadership help her to buff others or remove conditions that might be giving them problems. 14. Hi guys! I've been tinkering with sheets for the NPCs in my PC's background. I thought I'd post them up for feedback! Please excuse any formatting weirdness. Tyrone Gold Power Level: 10 (150/150PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: +3 Attack / -3 Damage, +2 Defense / -2 Toughness In Brief: Possibly the Best Liar in the World. Catchphrase: “I’ve learned my lesson. I’m sorry for what I’ve done.” Theme: R. Kelly - World's Greatest Alternate Identity: Tyrone Gold (Public) Birthplace: Freedom City Residence: Freedom City Correctional Facility Base of Operations: Freedom City Correctional Facility Occupation: Crime Lord Affiliations: Anyone with money and bad intentions. Family: Juliet Gold (Wife), Jacob Gold (Son), Valerie Gold (Daughter), Victoria Gold (Daughter/Enemy) Description: Age: 52 Gender: Male Ethnicity: African American Height: 6’6 Weight: 240 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Bald Tyrone Gold is an imposing figure. Chiselled jaw, powerful voice, when he speaks, people want to listen. Given his own choice, he prefers expensive, tailored suits – though even in prison orange he still manages to project an aura of confidence and power. History: Tyrone Gold was never good enough for his father. Jack Gold was an exacting tyrant, a man who never believed that his eldest son would ever be good enough to take over the family business. He saw Tyrone’s focus on fashion and appearance as a weakness; and his vain, selfish wife as a liability. He thought his son frivolous, and planned to pass Tyrone by and give his inheritance to the younger son, Quentin. Instead, Tyrone bribed the family mechanic to ensure the car suffered a catastrophic brake failure which claimed the lives of his mother, father, and brother. When the dust settled and the inheritance all passed to him, a tearful Tyrone swore to take the Gold Corporation forward into the future. And he did. The irony is that Tyrone soon found that he had a genuine knack for business, when he was in charge of it. If he’d applied himself when his father was alive, he would never have needed to arrange the murder. But, he did, and the knowledge of what he’d done gnawed away at him. When the mechanic started blackmailing him, it was only a matter of time before things turned sour. Tyrone turned to the mob to make the mechanic problem disappear, and they did. Tyrone found that he actually liked working with the sensible, no-nonsense businessmen in organised crime. It was a world he understood. They wanted power, and they were willing to kill to keep a hold of it; if they had to. For decades, the Gold Corporation was tied up with organised crime across Freedom City. Gold money helped bankroll mob businesses and took a cut in return; Gold subsidiaries were set up to launder ill-gotten gains; Gold pharmaceuticals ‘lost’ various shipments and other businesses were used to smuggle in far worse contraband. Tyrone’s wife, Juliet, was with him every step of the way. As they grew, Tyrone saw in his eldest son and youngest daughter all the same ruthless ambition that had driven him in his youth. Rather than reject them as his father had, he nurtured that, giving them all the access they needed to carve out their own little kingdoms under his empire. It was only his middle daughter he never understood. Victoria’s discipline and disinterest in the material made her a total mystery. He never figured out what really made her tick, and that disturbed him. His own flesh and blood, and she was the only person he knew that he couldn’t easily manipulate. What made his criminal enterprise all the sweeter, of course, was that it was done right under the City’s nose. As far as the average man on the street was concerned, Tyrone Gold was a perfect example of everything shining and bright about corporations in America. He was a philanthropist who gave so much back to the community. He loved that adoration. Nothing good lasts forever, though, and when a journalist and cop working to investigate Gold’s holdings turned up dead, everything came crashing down around him. Now, Tyrone is in Freedom City Correctional Facility – he’s non-violent, after all, he just paid someone else to do his murder for him. There, he seethes. Sure. He’s comfortable enough. He’s carved out his own little space, and he’s even pulled strings to get his wife in there with him, but he’s not free. His name is trash, and he hates that most of all. But it is all just a temporary setback. He’ll get out, and when he does, he’ll have some very powerful friends waiting to back him up. Personality & Motivation: Tyrone is greedy, power-hungry, and very, very smart. He’s a masterful manipulator and is very good at finding the right levers to pull to make someone do what he wants them to do. He may have suffered a temporary setback, but he’s still standing. The way he sees it, the people who put him behind bars took a shot at the King – and he’s still breathing, so they missed. He does care about his family, everyone except Victoria who he considers a freak and a failure. His son, daughter and wife are all incredibly important to him as they will carry on the Gold legacy. But mostly, right now, he’s angry. Angry at his incarceration, angry at the string of events which led him here, angry at his allies who have yet to spring him from jail. He feels humiliated, and he will have his revenge. Powers & Tactics: Tyrone doesn’t usually get his hands dirty himself, but when he does, he is a surprisingly capable combatant – at least, for a relatively normal human being. He’s a big man with a mean right hook and a pair of gold knuckle dusters that can really leave a mark; especially as he never fights fair and should always make heavy use of his interaction skills in combat; particularly feinting. If it came down to a fistfight between Dad and Daughter, feinting is the only way he’s going to have a hope. Where he excels, though, is in commanding others. Tyrone is very smart, and with time to plan, he can stack the deck in his favour. He also has very deep pockets and is not shy about paying for specialists to help. The minions in this build are just an example set; he should be supported by criminals which make sense in the situation. With his Inspire feat, he can really make the right minion do some work, too. 15. Hi Avenger! Thanks for the kind words! I've updated the Chakrams; the problem with going for a power for the unarmed strike is that it messes with the stunning attack (I think?) so I dropped down Improved Initiative and shifted another point into dodge focus to boost baseline strength up to 20 - she's now really ripped, but still within human limits and I think that maths works out!

She wears a billowing, dark grey cape and tight-fitting grey leotard along with a full-face mask with a stylized black question mark covering her face. There is no skin shown whatsoever, meaning that the only certainty about the person beneath the costume is that she is 5’9, extremely physically fit, and very insistent on her privacy. (If this character takes off I will probably commission some art; alas I have not been able to make Heromachine cooperate with my idea and I got bored trying!) History: Victoria’s story is bound inexorably to her father’s. Tyrone Gold inherited the vast Gold family fortune after his father died young. The Golds had built up a substantial business empire and, for decades, had been renowned for their philanthropic works in the Freedom City community. Tyrone seemed to be no different; he, his wife, and his children were involved in many charities. Victoria was the middle child of three, and was allowed to pursue her passion unhindered. She set herself apart from an early age due to a fascination with martial arts. She had an aptitude for it, and by the age of 12 she was a black belt in Karate, had mastered several forms of Kung Fu, and was more than capable of beating her snot-nosed 16 year old brother handily when he tried to throw his weight around. Tyrone forbade her from entering the Olympics, which was disheartening to young Vicky, but she masked her disappointment. She was not only interested in the physical aspect of her chosen art, but was fascinated by the cultural and meditative practices as well. She came to understand her talent as a tool for mastery of the self rather than as something for her own self-aggrandisement. In truth, Tyrone had darker motivations. He didn’t want his daughter – or anyone else – stealing the spotlight from him. He loved fame more than he loved anything else, with the possible exception of money. Both things would lead him down a sad path. As they grew, family members formed their own passion projects. Victoria sponsored inner-city programs based around teaching martial arts to underprivileged youths in order to build the self-confidence and mastery that she found so helpful. Her brother was heavily involved in Veteran’s programs. Her sister worked heavily with groups to increase education and literacy standards across the world. When it all came crashing down, it happened very fast. At the start of 2017, a journalist, Daniel Grey, turned up dead. Then a cop, Fred Jones. Both were found to have been investigating various Gold holdings. Not long after that, the whole rotten story broke. The Gold Family – or, more specifically Tyrone and his wife Juliet – had been bankrolling criminal families across Freedom City and beyond. The Gold Corporation and its many holdings and subsidiaries saw their stock price plummet, and the whole family was arrested. The family name was dragged through the mud, and even worse for Vicky, she was forced to see that her parents and siblings were all implicated. Even her own programs were shown to have been used as recruiting grounds for mob heavies, though without her knowledge. Whilst she and her siblings were cleared of any actual illegal wrongdoing in court, her mother and father were directly implicated in the deaths and in money laundering charges. Vicky had always prided herself on her ability to read others; to see the truth at their hearts and view the world clearly. When she looked into her father’s eyes at court that day, she saw that he had always been a monster; that he had played her, and the rest of the world, as fools, and that her focus on self-improvement had blinded her to the larger ramifications of her family’s actions on the world. It was painful to witness the death of her family name, but even more painful to realise that it deserved to die. The Gold Corporation and the family went into overdrive to try and rehabilitate their public image. Everyone, that is, except Victoria. She went on a trip around the world to fall back, regroup, and consider her next path. It was whilst she was ascending the Lhotse mountain in Tibet that she came across the man who would change her life. When she first met him, Master Wen seemed like a rather inconsequential man. He was boorish, loud, and generally unkempt. He was also very insistent that he would climb the mountain with her, and she couldn't seem to persuade him otherwise. She was worried that an old man like him would get himself hurt, and she couldn't persuade him to turn back. Exasperated, she gave in and allowed him to join her. To her surprise, he was able to keep pace easily despite a lack of any appreciable climbing gear, and the higher they ascended the peak, the more his annoying chatter turned to genuinely interesting subjects; not least of which was his concept of the Wheel of Fate. According to this theory, fate turned in a wheel; all things turned in a cycle, and those fully in tune with the flow of fate could exert influence upon it. She wasn’t sure she understood the relevance, but she respected the old master enough to listen and to try and learn. It was on the thirteenth day of their shared journey that they were suddenly attacked by a dozen ninja. This came, to put it mildly, at something of a surprise to Victoria – but the fact of a second extremely capable combatant was more surprising to them. During the battle, however, she witnessed Master Wen take a fatal blow – only for the ancient master to glow a brilliant white, and the attack miss him completely. In the aftermath of the battle he explained that he was part of a sect of warriors who had been fighting to bring down a group known as the ‘Katanarchists’ since the end of the second world war. They sought understanding of the Great Wheel, and he wished to put an end to their abuse of mystical secrets. It felt as though her eyes were opening to a world she had always known existed – who doesn’t know about superheroes and supervillains? – but had never truly pieced together with her own talents. All at once, the path to personal redemption was laid clear for her. Together, they finished her journey, and she swore then and there to oppose such forces. Master Wen inducted her into the Guardians of the Wheel, and she spent the rest of the year learning the martial secret of wrestling fate itself. Now, she has returned to Freedom City, as she has heard rumours that the Katanarchists are active in the City, and that her father is working to appeal the charges against him with some of the most expensive lawyers money can buy. The path to redemption seems clear. She’s just going to have to do it… Incognito. Personality & Motivation: Victoria is motivated by three core drives. The first is guilt. Unwittingly, she has been used by her family to inflict incalculable damage against the communities she loved and wanted to serve. She feels strongly that she has a moral duty to atone for that culpability, even if she was completely ignorant of the abuse her programs were being put to. The second is anger. She is extremely, terrifyingly angry with her family. She feels that they do not deserve redemption. The family name should burn and they should never be trusted again. This is why she is so set on remaining nameless in her hero work; she does not want to risk any slight rehabilitation to the Gold family name through her actions. She works to atone for herself, personally, and to make sure that their actions do not go unscrutinised again. She feels betrayed, and that betrayal has cut her very deeply. The third, and arguably most important, is honour. Victoria has come to understand that peace, security and safety are not things that we can take for granted; they must be guarded by those with the strength to guard them. She is proud to count herself as one of those individuals, and feels that honour demands she make up for the decade or so of inaction since she could have, theoretically, begun doing what she does now. In terms of personality, Vicky can seem somewhat dour. She is slow to trust these days, and views everyone with an (unhealthy?) degree of scepticism. In her public guise she is open and clear about the fact that she is ashamed of her criminal parents and fully believes that the rest of her family were aware of the crimes being committed and should go to jail. As Incognito, she is guarded and paranoid, highly unlikely to trust almost anyone with the truth of her identity or her secret crusade against the Katanarchists. Powers & Tactics: Incognito has only one true ‘power’, that of the mystical martial arts technique ‘The Wheel Turns’. This technique sees her literally grasp fate and bend it to her will, rolling it back to turn aside the success of an opponent’s strike and force them to try again. At present, she is barely an initiate in this art; true Masters like Master Wen are able to manipulate fate for a wide range of effects, she is only able to force fate to reconsider a blow against herself. The rest of her combat tactics come from her martial arts. She is incredibly skilled at reading her opponents, perhaps one of the best that has ever lived, and engaged in one-on-one combat she can make it extremely difficult to touch her. She has mastered multiple styles of unarmed combat to turn her body into a potent weapon; but even so, she is frankly human and sometimes she needs to rely on other tricks to tip the scales, such as smoke pellets or stunning blows. She has also purchased a wide range of useful gadgets to assist in her crime-fighting career. The most important is undoubtedly her chakrams – a traditional weapon of the Guardians of the Wheel – which have expanded her ability to reach out and touch her enemies significantly, even if she broadly prefers to fight close up and personal. Power Descriptions: The Wheel Turns is a mystical technique where, for an instant after receiving a blow, the individual seems to freeze in place. This is coupled with a bright white glow and a circular blur behind her as the Wheel of Fate is forcibly turned backwards. If she performs the technique correctly (her opponent rerolls and misses) things carry on with her in a new position; if she fails, the blow strikes true and she has to deal with it. Complications: Family Reunion: The Gold Family is, with the exception of Victoria, pretty horrible. The Gold Corporation (still) has its fingers in many criminal pies. Tyrone and Juliet Gold continue to exert influence on the criminal world from inside prison, her older brother (Jacob) and younger sister (Valerie) have their own burgeoning careers in drug running, weapons and other illicit goods. Victoria feels compelled to try and clean up this mess and see her family punished wherever possible. Guardian of the Wheel: Incognito is a member of the Guardians of the Wheel – an ancient mystical order at war with the Katanarchists. Not only does she care deeply about Master Wen, her one-time mentor, but the Katanarchists are quite aware of their foe and would love to remove her from their side. This also brings with it an obligation to listen to other Guardians of the Wheel; she is only a recent Initiate with little standing in the organisation. Remember the Name: The Gold Family are recently disgraced. If people know who Victoria Gold is, they are likely to remember the scandal and see her as one of the many fat cats who have exploited the poor and vulnerable for their own ends. Those Left Behind: Victoria Gold once sponsored numerous martial arts-based initiatives to help kids from impoverished backgrounds. These were, unknown to her, used as recruiting grounds for mafia enforcers and similar henchmen. She feels a strong responsibility to guide these people back onto the right path.
