  1. IMPACT Grant looks the strange man up and down with a flick of his eyes. The language -- was that French? -- was all gibberish to him, but he didn't like it when the Christmas-colored weirdo shrugged about not knowing them. "I'm Impact," he says, and arcs a thumb at his chest. "She's..." he pauses, recollecting. "Chimera, right?" He looks at his new acquaintance and realizes it's now his turn to smile apologetically. "Are you here to arrest these guys? Take them to jail, or something?"
  2. IMPACT Grant mimics Chimera's response almost to a T, his shield going suddenly opaque is it layers on additional protection. Isn't AEGIS American? he wonders. What's with the accent? Like Jennifer, he looks quickly back and forth at the more established heroes before setting his eyes back on the Hood. They're narrow behind his mask. "Anybody know this guy?" he asks. Grant exhales, then draws a calming breath. He's still pumped up from the fight, still looking to lash out. He needs to settle himself down before he makes a mistake. This was a chance to look good in front of other heroes and the government. If he played his cards right... things might change for the better. His shield still up, his hands ready, he waits for something to happen.
  3. IMPACT At Grimalkin's announcement, Grant's eyes widen behind his mask. "So, you mean they might've been working together on something? That means somebody could still be in trouble somewhere!" He looks back toward where the two villains were fighting, and squints to see down the length of street. "Should we go check it out? See where they came from?" Suddenly, he drops into a crouch next to Wordsmith and leans toward the man. "Hey! What was that all about? Where'd you guys come from, huh?"
  4. IMPACT Grant stops, eyes Ghost up and down, and then takes a step back. His hands go up, palms out. "I hear you," he says. Honestly, he feels the slippery slope was in not reminding people like Wordsmith that there were consequences for tearing up a city street in some stupid mask-fight. After what happened to Lee, Grant wasn't at all forgiving of people who put others in danger to settle their scores. That said, he wasn't going to square up with Ghost over it -- especially not without knowing the extent of what the other man could do. Ghost could reach through concrete; could he reach through Impact's TK field? So, instead, Grant nods in response to Chimera's attempted answer. "It could have been some sick game," he adds. "You saw how tough Wordsmith was, right? Could the other guy's bullets have hurt him? Maybe they were just goofin' off, and didn't care who they hurt in the way."
  5. IMPACT That word, "young," rankles Grant a little bit. He can feel himself flush, and looks down at the villains in an attempt to hide it. "I dunno," he answers. His voice is even gruffer, almost a parody of grim, gritty heroes. "I was on patrol, and I heard them going at it." He leaves out that he'd been heading to the corner store for milk when he'd gotten involved, and then remembers that he still needs to stop there on his way home. "I couldn't let them shoot the place up, or... whatever that guy does." He kicks at Wordsmith, hard enough to hurt. "Anyway, it's ni... good to meet you. Teaming up was awesome!" He doesn't know what a chimera is, nor a grimalkin, but a 'ghost' he can understand. "Your powers are rad, man. How'd you go through the ground like that? Can you feel it when you're down there?" Then, he turns to Chimera. "And that thing you did with your hands! The, uh, claws?" His own field flashes over his digits, enchasing them in similar scything blades of pearlescent force. "So, so cool." In his excitement, his tough-guy voice starts to slip, and the teenager shines through. "And, uh, Grimalkin! How'd you learn to move like that?"
  6. IMPACT Grant heaves a heavy breath and allows the bludgeoning field surrounding his hands to smooth back up his arms and over his body, after which he adjusts the sleeves of his jacket and turns to look at the others. His gaze is somewhat sheepish, and close attention reveals he prefers to look more at the nose, or at the space between the eyes, than at their eyes themselves. "I've never had to hit someone that hard before," he admits. "That guy could really take a beating." His voice is deeper than it should be, gruffer, and one suspects he might be putting on a bit of a show. "That was awesome though, wasn't it?" He punches the air, one fist after the other. "That was my first 'mask-fight' and my first team-up. I can't believe it!" He smiles, then forces his features smooth again. "Uh, my name's 'Impact,' by the way. Who're you guys?"
  7. IMPACT Grant gapes with stupefied shock as his blow strikes Wordsmith's chest with a terrific, reverberating force... and then stops dead. The weightless mass of his shield, normally more than enough to take out whatever it was he wanted knocked around, has failed to even budge the man. It was practically inconceivable that someone be so durable -- it was like stepping on Grant's toes, and that stung even worse than anything else so far. "I don't care who you are," grumbles Grant. The ball of force around his hands grows larger and then shrinks back, condensing. "I don't care what you're made of." He knits his fingers together and steps back, preparing himself. "You put people in danger, and I'm taking you down." He huffs a breath, swings his clenched fists in a vicious hammer-blow, and smashes Wordsmith in the side of the head with all the force of a speeding truck.
  8. Description DC 27 [Power Attack] Unarmed Attack (Bludgeon) Results 1d20+2: 7 [1d20=5] That's closer to a miss than I'd like, but at least I hit. And with some extra oomph, too. I'll hold off on making an IC post until I know whether it should be triumphant or enraged.
  9. IMPACT Not so lucky as to strike a car, Grant is blown backwards by Wordsmith's O and lands roughly on his butt, skidding several feet. The only thing sparing him a painful -- and embarrassing! -- trip to the hospital is his force-shield, which he silently thanks as he clambers back to his feet. "Okay," he says. "Payback." Seeing an opportunity, and wanting to make a better impression, the young hero approaches the paralyzed villain and wills his telekinetic field to swell in his hands. "Not so tough now, smart guy?" he asks. "Maybe thinking twice about bringing your beef to the street?" He brings his hands together and the field expands into a basketball-sized sphere of nigh-indestructible mass. "Somebody could have gotten killed!" Gritting his teeth, Impact swivels in a pivot and swings that wrecking ball of telekinetic energy into Wordsmith's chest.
  10. Description DC 22 Unarmed Attack (Bludgeon) Results 1d20+7: 23 [1d20=16] I'm pretty sure that's a hit. It's time for some payback!
  11. Description DC 20 Reflex Save Results 1d20+5: 14 [1d20=9] Ouch, not quite. Description DC 20 Toughness Save Results 1d20+7: 18 [1d20=11] And another roll that isn't up to snuff! Is how I'm posting these okay? It seems to make sense to just copy over the data and attach a link.
  12. All right, the party's getting started! Let's send another Bludgeoning Blast at Wordsmith. It didn't work before, but now there's a woman to impress! Description DC 22 Blast (Bludgeoning) Results 1d20+7: 19 [1d20=12] It occurs to me that Grant is exactly the kind of kid to do what he thinks looks cool in a fight, so expect some anime poses.
  13. IMPACT Grant yelps and skitters to one side and then the other as both razor-sharp words slash the ground around him, and then bullets surge up from beneath the street. He remembers, a moment too late to stop from embarrassing himself, that's he's practically invulnerable to small-arms fire, and curses himself for the instinct. Hearing speech behind him, he looks over a shoulder to see a new woman free the constricted teenager. His teenaged heart starts thumping and he swallows a sudden feeling of nervousness. Had she seen him miss his previous shot? If so, he'd need to make up for it. He raises both hands above his head, concentrates to conjure up an impressively girthy pillar of telekinetic energy, and then swings it down on Wordsmith like a toppling redwood. "Eat this!"
  14. IMPACT Grant trusts in his shield, and it doesn't fail him. Cheat Code's hail of bullets are stopped dead by the telekinetic barrier and fall, intact but harmless, to the street. "It's not skill if it's cheating, jerk!" the teenager bellows, furious at the slipperiness of his opponent. He turns on the other, the one with the physical words, and gathers force in his palms. Bringing his hands together, Impact swings another column of telekinesis in a wide arc, missing Wordsmith by a sizeable margin but leaving a jagged trench in the asphalt. Grant swears, loudly enough for Chimera to hear, and breathes heavily. "Okay. Round two."
  15. DC 22 Toughness save: 1d20+10: 24 [1d20=14]. Well, how about that? Let's try getting Wordsmith with the same sort of Blast I tried on Cheat Code. 1d20+7: 9 [1d20=2]. Well, nope! That goes wide.
  16. IMPACT Bullets fly in a haphazard burst, filling the air with speeding death, and Grant's blood begins to boil when the new arrival only just avoids being struck. "This is stupid," he mutters to himself. "This is stupid, this is stupid, this is..." He takes a deep breath, and then bellows. "Are you nuts? Somebody's gonna get hurt!" He can sense, rather than feel, his force-shield pool around his right hand. It's a subtle pressure, a heavy weightlessness, that he's come to enjoy. He gathers it up and then thrusts his hand toward the gun-toting lunatic, pushing his telekinetic armor outward in a speeding column of crushing force. It's like a battering ram of frosted glass, only barely visible against the backdrop of the city. He could have shaped it into something else -- a scything blade, a piercing spearhead -- but the point is to take this joker down, not take him out.
  17. Right, sorry! I think I've forgotten the order of things. I'll keep that in mind for next time.
  18. Oh, gosh, I really need to invest in ranks of Impervious. And Healing. I'll add those to the Utility Array at my next opportunity. Impact is going to shift his force-shield to Toughness (DEF 4, TOU 10) and attack Cheat Code with a Blast (DC 22, Bludgeoning). 1d20+7: 25 [1d20=18] I'll write an IC post when I know the result.
  19. Initiative: 1d20+10=15. I'm going to have to remember how to paste Orokos links into the field that doesn't also require me to heavily edit them. Also: whoa, what a result for my first roll back. Some things never change.
  20. IMPACT This wasn't Grant's idea of a good time. Impact, his superhero alter-ego, was used to taking on thugs and wannabe gangsters -- and they were usually kids his own age! These guys, though, were actually super-villains, and at least one of them had real, honest-to-God super-powers to worry about. Grant's mask felt hot against his face, and he could tell his hands were sweating in his fingerless gloves. But, as he watched bullets and explosive typography disturb the relative peace in the Fens, he was reminded of the day of violence that took his brother and revealed his own powers. Suddenly, Grant's blood ran hot. Impact took a series of quick shallow breaths to psyche himself up, felt his skintight force-shield wrap around his body, and stepped out into the open. "Hey!" he shouted. "You two! Pack it up and head somewhere else! These streets are off-limits!"
  21. Are these villains anyone Impact would recognize?
  22. No, I think that accounts for everything if it doesn't take the Attack Specialization into account. I've pasted your math into the sheet. Thanks for the help!
  23. Absolutely! The idea is that he can shape the telekinetic field that covers his body and form it into crude bludgeons, blades, and spikes as needed. As he gains points, I plan to invest in greater and greater precision and control.
  24. IMPACT Power Level: 7 (105/108PP) Unspent Power Points: 3 Trade-Offs: Defense varies between DEF -3/TOU+3, None, and DEF +3/TOU -3 In Brief: A nigh-invulnerable teenager takes to the streets to avenge his brother’s death. Catchphrase: "Nice try!" Theme: Unknown Brain – Superhero Alternate Identity: Grant Potosi (secret) Birthplace: Vibora Bay, Florida Residence: Freedom City, New Jersey Base of Operations: West End, Freedom City Occupation: Student / amateur superhero Affiliations: N/A Family: Mara Potosi (mother), Lee Potosi (brother, deceased), Father (status unknown) Description: Age: 16 Apparent Age: Mid-teens Gender: Male Ethnicity: Latino Height: 5'9" Weight: 145lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Athletic and powerfully built for his age, Grant has a clear complexion, dark brown eyes, and a head of straight black hair he keeps clipped close to the scalp. As a civilian he can usually be found wearing a pair of faded denim bluejeans and an inexpensive, monochromatic tee-shirt. When dressed and on duty as Impact, Grant trades his normal tee-shirts for a one bearing his symbol: a white exclamation point on a black shield. A knockoff Claremont Academy varsity jacket, black fingerless gloves, and a simple cloth mask complete his “uniform.” Grant has a secret notebook filled with costume sketches he hopes to make real when he can afford the materials. When his powers are active, Impact’s body is covered with a field of semitransparent energy that glistens faintly in the light and sparks aggressively when struck. Impact is learning to manipulate the field into a variety of shapes, notably various melee weapons, and it turns a cloudy white resembling frosted glass when extended beyond Grant’s body. History: Mara Potosi moved to Freedom City from Vibora Bay with her children, Lee and Grant, shortly after the latter was born. Unfortunately, the Val Verdian native was unable to find long-term gainful employment, and the family often struggled financially. Feelings of helplessness drove Lee, the eldest brother, to leave school at 15 and join a youth gang called the Hornets for profit and protection. Grant, 12 years old at the time, was expected and encouraged by his brother to do the same. On the night of his initiation, Grant joined his brother Lee and other Hornets members to rob a convenience store in the territory of a rival gang. Before they could escape with their loot, however, their group was targeted by a drive-by shooting, and only Grant survived – completely unharmed. Shattered by the experience, he left the Hornets behind to focus on exploring his newly discovered powers. In just over a year, he felt prepared enough to take to the streets as Impact and target the gangs that had stolen his brother away. Personality & Motivation: Grant’s powers echo his personality. Generally speaking, he is closed-off and defensive, slow to trust and quick to take offense. At the same time, his abilities allow him to reinforce a teenage boy’s natural bravado with a legitimate invincibility, resulting in a young man who has a tendency to be brash and impulsive. Internally, Grant is suffering from a tremendous survivor’s guilt and post-traumatic stress as a result of his brother’s murder, which drives him to put on the mask and seek justice as a vigilante. Powers & Tactics: All of Impact’s superpowers derive from his ability to generate a skintight telekinetic field of remarkable durability. While primarily defensive, Grant can shape the field to serve offensively in combat. He can enhance his strength, form blades and bludgeons, or project the field outward as beams of crushing force. With enough concentration, Grant can even fly by “surfing” on a platform he creates underfoot. Impact is an unskilled fighter and relies on his invulnerability to carry him through. Power Descriptions: Impact’s telekinetic field is potentially a very potent power, with many applications Grant hasn’t yet discovered. As it stands, he is still in the process of learning how it works and has mastered only its crudest abilities. His extreme durability allows him to largely ignore most mundane threats, and his offensive capabilities are respectable, if unsophisticated, for his weight-class. When struck, or used to strike something else, Impact’s telekinetic field throws off pale sparks and a brief burst of cool heat. Complications: Impulsive: Impact is a bulletproof teenager, and is prone to acting before he thinks things through. Obsession: Nothing will stand in the way of putting an end to the Hornets and their leader, EZ-E. Responsibility: Impact is a part-time high school student, and his mediocre grades are slipping further. Secret: Grant endeavors to keep the fact that he is also the hero Impact unknown to everyone else. Temper: Sometimes it can be easier to lash out than it is to work through your emotional problems.
