  2. The 'head' of the mech-suit rotated slowly towards the officer, the machine waking itself from the diagnostic-standby mode. A synthetic voice issued from the speakers mounted on the top. "Understood." With the machine's programs and the onboard assistant AI's 'thoughts' running through her mind, Khulan sometimes found it difficult to not act like the machine when she was piloting it. She was fairly sure the Khanate had designed that on purpose, given how much more efficient it made their soldiery. And she had to admit to herself, sometimes it was handy. Shell didn't waste any time with words or questions. She loaded up for transport to her assigned location, making sure to cycle her weapon to the plasma cannon single-shot variant. It wasn't strictly necessary, the mech was entirely capable of switching modes at the same speed it took her to think the command, but it made her feel safer to be prepared ahead of time.
  3. The light in the lich's eye sockets dimmed and flickered for a moment, as he observed his companion. "Immortality iss immortality. What do the conditionss matter? Undeath may not be life, but I ssee it as far better. There iss no need to eat, to drink, to ssleep. Every ssecond of every day can be committed to work and sstudy, or whatever elsse sstrikes my fanccy." These words hiss out even more than the others, emotion seeping into Rahman's speaking voice. "How many of the misseriess of life do we avoid? Mosst, if not all." "You do not undersstand. Your condition wass forcced upon you. I chosse this sstate. I earned it, by the ssweat of my brow, and the toil of my own handss. You may ssee it ass a punishment, a cursse, but to me it iss a gift."

  5. "Wooooaaaaahhhh..." Jimmy's jaw all but dropped as wings appeared on Phae's back. Then, he cocked his head to the side, realizing there had been blood. "Woah, woah, wait. How'd you do that? Does it hurt? Are they real? Is it uncomfortable when you have them cooped up for a while?" Questions spilled out of his mouth like prison escapees, without giving anyone time to react between each one. He had a moment of glumness when he realized that there were already at least two people around who'd demonstrated their abilities. He wanted to show his off, and get some cool reactions of his own, but that would ruin the party for him (and probably a few other people too). Instead he settled for living vicariously through others. "Is it hard? Hiding them, I mean, and then pulling them back out again. Or, actually, which one is the default, not having wings, or having them?" And what had she meant with the weird comment about the costume being accurate to a degree?
  6. Khulan cursed under her breath at the call. She'd almost lain back with the assumption that this particular line of work would be easy money. Then, apparently, the universe conspired to prove her wrong. Because of course, no job can just be simple and relaxing. Muttering under her breath, the pilot climbed the short ladder in the back of her Hunter mech, and crawled inside. She curled up into a ball, letting the mech plug into her neck and spinal jacks, and then went into an almost-sleep state while it booted up. The Hunter went through its start-up process, the weapons array cycling through various different modes and running quick firing simulations, then every servo stretching and pushing to make sure nothing was about to break. The whole process took entirely longer than most might like, but once it was done, Khulan's consciousness was finally instated as in command of the machinery. She took a moment just to enjoy the feeling. It was strange, but she never felt quite like herself when she wasn't plugged in anymore. So much strength and ability, gone. With that done, Shell stood by, running passive diagnostics while waiting for further orders.
  7. Rahman laughed deeply, his skull going back until it seemed just short of bending at an impossible angle, then fell back into its default position. "Yess, thiss ccity is ssurely...colourful..." He shook his head from side to side. "I wouldn't think of accepting, of coursse. I plan to make mysself the greatesst in the world." Another laugh came out of him. "I did this to mysself. Yearss of ressearch and experimentation, culminating in the greatesst achievement of my lifetime." His arms swept apart to indicate his entire body. "Immortality..."
  8. There was a twitch in the robes that might have indicated that his bony shoulders had shrugged. Or maybe something was just shifting under there. Or, maybe, it was just the wind. "It'ss nothing. It feelss pleassant on my old boness." The voice sounded vaguely amused, like he was having fun with a joke only he understood. "Amongsst the living, I am Ibraheem El-Hashem, but with our kind, I am Rahman the Undying!" The last three words were said with just as much dramatic sense as Phantasmo had said his name with, the voice's echo growing deeper and more noticeable. One of his hands even pushed its way out of his sleeve and formed a claw, the tips of his fingers pointed upwards. After that, however, he returned to his normal speaking voice and pose. "You are right on...many levelss. I am a Necromancer, yess, and a lich." A dark chuckle came from the skull. "Mosst would ssay that the fear, or prejudicce, ssome would ssay, iss desserved. Why not you? What are...you?"
  9. The skull let out a dark chuckle. "Uss, ssomething in common, eh?" The teeth clacked together and, despite the lack of skin to stretch and make a grin, there was a general feeling that he was smiling, the same way there was a general feeling of Phantasmo's eyebrow raising. A skeletal hand, some parts still covered by paper-thin skin, extended from the depths of his sleeve to grasp the glass he was offered. Rahman raised the glass and let out another chuckle. "To a good drink, then." The skeleton tossed the contents into the skull's mouth, without any real regard for it. Moments later, the quiet sound of liquid dripping onto the ground came from under the robes - which were luckily long enough to completely cover his feet and therefore whatever was going on down there.
  10. Jimmy was caught up in the confusion of the many people arriving. First the Grim Reaper - would that be racist, if ghosts were racist - and then...another beautiful girl dressed up as per normal for Halloween. Jimmy was stunned for a bit, left with his mind mentally reeling, before he caught up and blinked at Phaedra, then lowered his eyes to the ground and started mumbling. "Uh, hi...your costume looks, uh..." Nice seemed too little, but other words might be too much. He spent a moment picking one, then his brain got fed up and jumped in with one for him, "wrong..." No wait, bad word. Fix it, quickly! "I mean, uh, aren't you supposed to have, you know, a halo?" Whoops, not fixing it, making it worse. Focus on something else, quick! Huang's arrival was a lifesaver, and Centurion-Jimmy scampered into the house immediately, making for the snacks that apparently were present. Maybe if he stuffed himself with food he'd be able to think straight-er. He barely spared a look and a wave back at the witch and her companion.

  12. "Oh. OH." Whoops. Misstep. Well, technically, he'd been correct. They were looking at drawings, just...word-drawings. "Oh, uh, whoops, my bad. I'm uh...sorry?" Why was he apologizing? Should he be apologizing? In the moments of confusion, Jimmy's mind locked up and he couldn't answer his own questions. "Can you...uh...read...uh...lips?" A few random strings of words in his mind came out as a cogent question. Then, moments later, he realized that, if she couldn't, then she wouldn't know what he'd said. He practically wanted to slap himself. The arrival of Sakurako to rescue him was most definitely welcome, and he let her talk and use her working brain to figure out a workaround.
  13. "Seeya. Have fun. I hope your, uh..." Had he got a straight answer as to why the other boy needed testosterone? "Whatever it is you need injections for, gets better. Or is better by now." Jimmy stood and nodded, and then went into the nurse's office for his own appointment.
  14. Rahman twitched suddenly as a hand landed on his shoulder. If he'd had muscles, they would have stiffened at the sudden appearance of someone on his arm. As it was, his old bones simply ceased to move, and he stood stock still in the middle of the street, gauging what would be an appropriate reaction. Finally, the old skeleton settled on an appropriate level of caution. His breathe rasped out, a sibilant hiss, almost sounding as if multiple voices were speaking simultaneously from one throat. "My cosstume? Yess. I have worked hard to get it...jusst right." Ss were stretched slightly beyond what they should, the voice putting slightly too much emphasis on them. "Yourss doess not look too bad, either.." As he spoke, he slid away from Phantasmo, stepping away and turning so he could face his conversational partner and actually get a look at him. The skull that stood in for his head betrayed no emotion - indeed, it would have a hard time showing any - but the flame that sat in his eyes brightened up. "The gold iss...impresssive."
  15. "Heya Riley. How'sit?" The second he compacted those words together, he regretted it. It sounded stupid. "I mean, uh, how are you?" In contrast to Robin's, Jimmy's hand was bony and fairly weak. He didn't squeeze very hard, and he shook and flexed his hand afterwards, like he'd lost feeling in it. "Nice to, uh, meet you too...Robin." He mumbled the words out, and kept right on mumbling quickly afterwards. "Ah, thanks, I just, uh, found it at the store." His hands hurried to fix the bracers, and he nodded to himself. "Your costume looks, uh, nice too. I, I haven't seen our host yet, no, but I just got here, as you, well, like you saw."
