  1. Today
  2. GM The agent at the WEST office recognised Predator's voice, and this time was clearly anxious. "Director North has gone missing!" she said. "We can't make contact. The Hotel he was at said he just vanished, bills unpaid! Two days ago. We had some phone calls from him over the last two days, just checking in. I've reviewed the logs... he sounded a bit... odd. Confused, maybe. Oh maybe I'm reading too much into it. But, do you think he is well? WEST agents can get exposed to some odd energies. Maybe his brain got scrambled!" She paused for breath. "I've checked the local hospitals. Local police no nothing. Last confirmed sighting was the White Regent Hotel, Anchorage!" "Do you think you can help?"
  3. Starshot "That doesn't look right..." said Starshot, through his helmet intercom. "Was it the spell? Something has disorientated them. If they keep bumping into each other like that, they could start a chain reaction." Which would not be good. "Doc, do you think we can try to communicate with them?" All the while, he was wondering why... why would the Grue tamper with the Sarcota (although it was not entirely clear they were). Why? Was this an act of sabotage? trying to weaponise them? Or were the Grue after something else entirely?
  4. So, Damage 8 (Extra: Targeted Burst Area (40' radius); Selective; Feats; Accurate 3, Attack Focus: melee) {28/28}? That is fine (and eliminates the issues above). As with Baz/Blue Bolt's combined attack, right now the biggest group Rot could get to of the insect drones is another group of 12 a bit further away above the plaza/park where everyone was gathered.
  5. Specimen A very tall, buff young man walked into the room. He had a mop of shaggy black hair and a handsome, if bland face. He wore a t-shirt and jeans over huge muscles. HIs arms were covered in faded scars. He had a pale Caucasian complexion, save for a slight graying of the skin. "Hello, sorry I'm late. I can't believe I scored a gig like this and I'm already late." He took a breath and looked over the group. "I'm Adam. Or, Specimen, as it were. You may note my unusual appearance." He smiled, took a deep breath, and steadied himself. "I call myself Specimen not because of my strength or musculature, but because I am, in essence, a science experiment myself." He pulled the sleeve of his t-shirt up over his bicep to reveal the scarred skin that lie underneath. "I am the accumulation of various hero and villain genetics. My creator attempted to make a body for himself that would have superhuman strength and durability. He actually failed, which is why I have so many scars. According to the data they found, my body was missing several major organs, as well as major muscle groups. So he just cloned the parts I was missing, and stitched me together. And yet it worked, because I do indeed have extraordinary strength and durability. I've actually had a few skin surgeries to reduce the scarring, mostly on my face. I have a ways to go, still, but it's not as bad as it once was. My creator died before he could, well, occupy me. His plan was to contact a telepath, possibly one of the Psions, to transfer his entire consciousness to me. The truth is I shouldn't even exist. By all logic, my body should have been inert. And yet I woke up once they pulled me out of suspended animation. My dad is a psychologist, my mother a biologist. They decided to adopt me, and now here I am." He chuckled. "Sorry, that was rather long winded of me. If we're all going to work together, I thought I'd satisfy your curiosity now, rather than later."
  6. Michael gave Vueriz a conspirator's grin and a nod as she explained, but before much longer the song had started again and he was back to listening to Bernie's music, quietly listening to the slow song with his friends. When it finished, he stood up to his full height, cupped his hands around his mouth, and yelled as loud as he could- which was very loud, because he knew how to project his voice. "YOU ROCK MULTIPLICITY!" He yelled at the top of his lungs across the entire club, before collapsing back on the couch and laughing loudly and cheerfully. At which point he went back to looking at his friends again "Hey Neko." Michael waved. "You did great on the tricks at the start, awesome job. It tricked Sam something fierce." he said, gesturing to the girl next to him, who elbowed Michael in the ribs and made him draw out a loud grunt. "You are an excellent show woman, Neko." Sam said in her own words.
  7. Basically, I just want to nuke a few minions. With their high Evasion, non- targeted area attack wasn't working at all. So i'd like to switch to target area attack. That's the gist of the power Stunt.
  8. Ok, what about the idea I said of just making it selective attack without the extra radius? I put that in there for the very reason of avoiding all the troubles you just pointed out. Rot has a base attack bonus of +1. I figured saying accuracy 4 and just neglect the last point, so it's +8 to hit and +8 damage was just easier than saying Accuracy 3 and linked Enhanced melee focus 1. I've seen players that are referees use that shorthand, so I figured it was okay.
  9. @Huckleberry No, I understood that it was just the idea of what Spaceman did not his actual powers. So the issues I see: First, Accuracy 4 breaks PL caps (as you have +3 BAB). So, it would be Accuracy 2 and Attack Focus: melee (as it is a no range, targeted burst area). Second: I am not going to allow 8 ranks of progression (area) on the stunted power. Right now Rot has a shapable area with progression 2, which means she could make up to a 200' long area 5' wide, or some combination of area with the 5'x5' blocks, that is a large area, but no where near the 10,000' radius area 8 ranks of progression would allow. 2 ranks of progression is still a 200' radius burst. Considerably more than she is currently capable of (in the order of many, many magnitudes). I could even see allowing 3 ranks of area progression (out to 400' radius), but there are application issues. Third: are the application issues. If you have 200' radius effect, Rot will need to fly up probably somewhere around 300' or so to avoid affecting anyone on the ground or other allies in the air with the area effect. Additionally getting that big, you will also have targets in the area that are not minions, and thus you will have to make an attack roll to hit ANY targets (no taking 10 on any of them). If you go to 400' radius, then you likely need to be 500-600' in the air to avoid allies/buildings (and again will require an attack roll)
  10. @Thevshi It just occurred to me, maybe you thought when I said Rot would copy Spaceman, that I meant like copy his actual powers. Nope. I just meant copy the concept of using a targeted area attack and taking ten on minions. Whatever she did would still be disintegration-based, of course.
  11. Okay, as mentioned in chat, this will work as Blue Bolt flies up, tosses the grenade up as Baz is falling back to the ground. The drones are coming down and set off the grenade. First reflex check vs the area: two make it Reflex save vs. Dazzle: two make it, so two more dazzled.
  12. Yesterday
  13. Can Vueriz fly to Baz, change her Gun & Grenades Array to Alternate Power: [19PP] Additional Descriptor(s): (Magnetism, Radiation, Atomic Particles, Light, Aurora) Dazzle 8 (Aurora Roarer; Visual Dazzle; Extras: Area [Cloud]; Feats: Ricochet, Thrown 1, Triggered 2; Flaws: Unreliable [5 Uses]; Drawbacks: Full Power) [19PP] And set it to trigger if/when the Communion not effected by Baz gets within it's area, while making a lot of noise to draw their attention?
  14. Lol, of course there are a number of issues. I would expect nothing less.
  15. Okay, will say there is a group of a dozen just at the edge of that 40' burst (after you leap 45' into the air). They get a Reflex save vs the area effect: four make it and avoid the burst with Evasion The other 8 get a Reflex save to avoid the dazzle: two make that save So there are 6 that have to make the Fort save vs the dazzle: two make that, so 4 are dazzled. Correction, fort saves are later, so half are dazzled right now.
  16. Gamma Buzz "Heads up! There are heads up!" yelled Baz, looking up and scanning all the drones. What could he do? Punch them? There would a lot of punching to do. Maybe release his atomic breath, but would that really work on drones? Were the organic, or robotic, or a bit of both? Time was precious, and he didn't have time for a long debate with himself. "Insect heads, that is. I hope they have insect eyes! Fireworks time!" He leapt straight up, several dozen feet, spread his arms out, tilted his head back, and lit up the sky with a radiation flare. A burst of lurid green light!
  17. Rot Consuelo looks in stunned silence at the old Greek guy talking to Lawrence. "Georgio? Like from the deli? What are you doing here? If you're a superhero, why didn't you help help me 'n Starshine against Auntie Freeze? Well, whatever. You're here now, and you're actually asking pretty good questions." Consuelo sweeps her hands out at everything happening around them. "Ya see - this whole thing is like this really elaborate trap to catch 'Timeout' laid out by these evil pan-dimensional beings that are part of this cult he grew up in. Seeing as that's the case, it seems pretty obvious what we should do is go up and teleport to that Star Khan character. He seemed pretty conflicted about that whole "submit to the Communion" thing. We get up there and rip those freaky tubes outta his neck and back. Then, with, like, his dying breath, he can tell us where the single-Larry-tea is so we can, like, ruin this Communion character's schemes. We get over to single-Larry-tea - and here's the really important part that you're probably just gonna ignore - it turns out this was all just, like, a ruse to get 'Timeout' next to it. His crazy cousins from the cult, you know, spring their trap on him, and a scuffle ensues. But like, regardless of the outcome, nothing really changes, and all the people from the cult keep on going with their crazy beliefs." Consuelo finishes with a satisfied nod. "Well, anyway, I should probably go disintegrate some fake aliens now. You science guys should figure out how to like, trace the frequency or whatever it is you do, to find which ship Star Khan is on, so we can teleport there. Later." And she flies off to go do violence.
  18. Baz will jump up to the insect drones (45' high Jump), and let loose a Radation Flare Dazzle 8, Area: Burst 20- 200' So keping the burst to a 40' area to save his allies!
  19. Rewind grinned obligingly when Devon gestured to his snazzy uniform. "I can't say I mind the dress code either," she added while he took a drink of tea. The rest of his explanation seemingly met with her approval and she looked impressed, pleased. "I've often been curious what's up there, in space. Aliens and all. One thing I never could learn much about. Maybe we'll both find answers up among the stars someday." When Dreamer created coffee for her, Rewind looked absolutely delighted. She listened to the other girl's comments about the nature of her powers while taking an experimental sip, followed by a few small swallows. Ahhhh, coffee. "Interesting implications," she said at last, after considering those answers. "And good to know about, thank you for sharing it." After Dreamer told them about her reasons for joining, Rewind grinned again. "The Atom Family does help people. I'm sure you'll have many chances to help others here." Madame Raven's own explanation caused Rewind to momentarily freeze. "I see. I know a little something about temporal and quantum theory. Maybe sometime we can chat a little more? I'd love to hear what you're willing to tell me about how it happened. And why you decided to join the Atom Academy instead of...well, I assume you have other options, we're flattered to have you!" As the group discussion rounded back to her, Rewind's smile became more visibly forced. "As for me, yes. The Atom Family helps people. They helped me. They saved me, actually. I don't know everyone's backgrounds but there's a theoretical concept scientists refer to as Z-Space. It's the...medium, between which all universes lie. Crossing from one dimension to another means crossing through Z-Space whether you know it or not." "In my case, I'm from a broken day. It's a fragmented reality, a stray realm drifting through the endless reaches of Z-Space. The Atom Family discovered it. They found me and rescued me out of it." She put a little more effort into pretending to smile again. "Basically, I'm from a Groundhog's Day timeloop. Ever since I came to the real Earth, though, I've wanted to make a difference in people's lives. The Atom Academy is a way to do that, in a way that my skills and powers are better suited for than just...you know, only trading punches with a street gang or something." Rewind let out a tense breath and said "So I guess the obvious question's still left. Have you all met Rex Atom? Anyone know why we're meeting up here in Lab 55?"
  20. GHULE Vik gives Bernie a rapid glance but looks away just as quickly, abashed. "I mean, you have a nice figure. We're both superheroes, so appearances can definitely be deceiving. If we were both, well, regular, we'd probably look like those ladies on American Gladiator if we could lift what we do," she said with a small chuckle. "I'm still a string bean. I guess whatever turned me into this just kept me the way I looked before." "But anyway, let's start out easy. Let's say, 500 pounds?" Vik rolls her arms and does some simple, quick callisthenic exercises to warm up before lying on a nearby bench press. "By the way, you aren't a burden. We're friends, so, if there's anything on your mind, we can talk about it. Or, if you'd prefer, we can just pump some iron like the badass superhero babes we are." It made her nervous to think she was intruding on Bernie's personal life, but she was obviously going through some stuff. Why shouldn't she be there for her friend and teammate?
  21. @Huckleberry There are a number of issues with this, we will discuss when it gets closer to Rot's turn.
  22. Rot is around halfway down the Initiative order, but in the interest of expediency, I'll just say note for combat, she will copycat off of Spaceman's targeted area attack, taking 10 vs minions. She'll get as many as she can, preferring the nasty little dragonfly types. The base of her HP power Stunt will be: Stunt off Attack Array 14: Damage 8 (Extras: Area - targeted burst) (Feats: Accurate 4) Which would give her an 18 to hit and a DC 23 Toughness save vs damage. If she can get out in the clear without friendly targets, she can pump up to 8 PP into extending the area of effect. If she can't get free of potential friendly targets, she'd use those 8 PP to make the damage effect a selective attack.
  23. Timeout Lawrence looked over to Mizuki as she spoke up again and suggested trying to learn what they could about the Shadow Academy. The blond teen gave her a smile when she suggested comparing notes over lunch about whatever they might be able to learn. "Sounds like a plan." The blond teen said before he and the two unconscious teen villains were surrounded by a temporal distortion and then disappeared.
  24. Diamondlight "Shooting Star? Pleased to meet you. Don't worry about the costume. I never do!" he smiled. Truth was, he regretted being open about his superhero alter ego. It painted a target on his back. But he was famous enough anyway - enough to be the target of stalkers and madmen. And besides, he figured he had enough skeletons in the closet with a Nazi Dakana Cyrystal in his mansion in Switzerland. "Do you play?" he asked. "Or just here for the ride? Because its looking like its going to be quite the ride. I couldnt turn this down, but I do have a voice in the back of my head saying that I am a mouse, and this is a fabulous lump of cheese." He scanned the tables. "If you don't know poker, don't play poker. Roullette, maybe. Its a game a total luck, although the odds are stacked against you..."
  25. Okay, sorry for the delay in getting back to this. We are sort of out of combat, so go ahead and post with ideas on dealing with the Sarcota.
  26. GM When Doktor Archeville confirmed they were going outside to investigate what might be going on, Kinarr flew over towards Starshot, slowing down slightly as he neared the hunter. The young Star Khan extended out one armored gauntlet to the human, and when Starshot used his bionic arm to firmly grasp the offered hand, the Zultasian continued forward, lifting his passenger onto the air as well. Once certain Starshot had a firm grip, Kinarr accelerated, following after the other human. The three zipped through the caverns much faster than their careful pace when initially exploring them, soon emerging back into the planet’s atmosphere. Flying up out of the ravine, they found that the Sarcota were starting to act rather erratically, two of the large beast actually colliding with each other not far away, causing both to turn away and head in other directions. There did not appear to be any significant injury to either, but such a collision would likely be catastrophic to any of the Lor power equipment arrayed out as far as the eye could see to the east.
  27. Timeout Lawrence had listened to Neko's ghost story closely as well. Given the anime he had watched with Baz over the last few months since they had become roommates at Claremont, the blond teen was not overly surprised at the dark and violent nature of the story. When the time had come to go to sleep, the relative peace and quiet of the Lost World reminded the teen of his parents' place in Fiji. Of course, that brought back memories of what had occurred on the return trip from the estate last month. Lawrence tried to push those thoughts from his mind for the moment so he could get to sleep. As his canopy area began filling with gas, waking him, up, the blond teen quickly snatched up his pack as he heard Neko calling out to move to higher ground. Making a quick check (which only took him a fraction of a second), Lawrence put away his sleeping bag and check that he was not leaving anything behind. Then he was gone in a temporal distortion, reappearing a few hundred feet away from the group’s makeshift camp, looking back to make sure all his classmates were moving to safety. A few more teleports and Lawrence appeared on a wide tree branch near Neko as the twins caught up as well. "Gunshots?" He asked. "Where?"
