Hardware Hoodlum Heist

Lives were in the balance. Warp told herself over and over . . . Lives are in the balance. Part of her wanted to sulk at that. She wanted to vent, wanted to take these robot mobsters apart and . . . Why are you like this? People could die if you mess up. .She pressed her palms against her head and thought, stood up straight and listened. She was standing back where they'd talked; no need to move. Everything was within her range anyway. Soon it would all be over and everyone would be safe and—

Gunshots.

No time for thought. She'd promised them results in five seconds. Time to make it happen. Warp remembered the position in the bank where the old-timey bots had four people lined against the wall and was there, quick as thinking.

It's the only plan we've got.  Distract the robots long enough for Warp to get the hostages out.  Hammer watched as Chrome moved off towards the side door.  It wasn't until the young hero had already turned the corner that he remembered a signal wasn't set.  Well, he'll figure it out.  Once bullets start flying everywhere, it shouldn't be a problem for him to realize it was time.

Hammer took one more look at Warp.  "Here goes nothing.  Get those people out of there.  Don't worry about anything else until that's finished.  Chrome and I shouldn't have a problem holding them off till then."

Hammer  jogged to the front door of the bank and took one last deep breath.  Here we go.  Time to step into the ring, Hammer.  Draw their attention just long enough for Warp to save the day.

He raised his leg and kicked the door in.

"Did anyone order some butt kicking?"

Hammer looked around the room, trying to get an idea on the positions of the bank robbers.  Through the bullets plowing into his body, he knew of at least one.

I had better put him down before he hits one of the hostages.   Hammer moved in on the robot and attempted to grab the weapon away from him.

Chrome and Hammer dodged shots as Warp stepped through her own portal, appearing next to the woman and the younger man. Before either of them could say something, they were suddenly on the roof of the bank. In another eyeblink Warp was back inside, getting ready to grab the last two hostages. "Somebody get out here and grab these yutzes," the shorter robot shouted, blasting away with an apparently endless stream of bullets.

As Warp gathered her power to make the last jump away, another robot charged in from deeper in the building. This one was the tallest of all, well over six feet and broad. His face had a prominent steel brow and he was even dressed in slack and bracers, the very picture of a gangland bruiser. He let out a roar and grabbed Warp, and suddenly the six of them were on top of the bank -- Warp, four hostages, and the metal gorilla.

Chrome took a moment from sheltering behind the wooden desk to glance out. "Hammer, it looks like we got all the hostages! I think we can get out of here." Suddenly the lady robot vaulted the cover and stood in front of him. In one hand she was holding a black valise, and in the other was a lit stick of dynamite. Chrome took in the explosive and her manic expression in a single glance. "Oh yeah. Time for us to GTFO."

Hammer took a brief moment to look over at Chrome.  The sight of the lite stick of dynamite filled him with concern.  Dynamite?!? Who uses dynamite these days?  Hammer ducked under a barrage of flying bullets even as he remember his talk with Sakurako.

If we let that dynamite blow up in the bank, would we be held responsible?  How are we supposed to disarm a stick of dynamite?

Hammer called back to Chrome.  "Don't let that dynamite go off in here!  Try to put it out."
