The Doom Room, Claremont Academy, Freedom City

6:25 PM

John’s first day at Claremont had been quite interesting. After a run-in with a few people earlier the day, he had already gotten to know quite a few of his fellow students. The rest of the day had gone without any further incidents. His lessons had started later that day, where it was the good old procedure of “how about you introduce yourself”.

A few of his acquaintances also shared classes with him, and during the breaks, there was some small-talk. Being the newest student always meant there was some attention on you. People wanted to know what he could do, rumours of his powers had already spread.

At some point, Lilly, a classmate and the person that had defused the earlier situation, had, with some effort, convinced John to check out the Doom Room, the school’s training facility. Getting a timeslot wasn’t easy, it required advance booking and lots of people contended for a spot. Fortunately, one of Lilly’s friends had managed to get a timeslot for the evening, and was willing to share and/or give up portions of it to others.

The two teens made their way down to the Room, and were now standing in the observation deck, waiting for the current routine to end. Inside, the two could see Jann, fighting what appeared to be a least a dozen of 80s-action-movie-style Ninjas. Skillfully, he weaved from one to the next, dodging and parrying various attacks along the way. Occasionally, he went on the offensive, but he seemed more focused on dodging as many simultaneous attacks at once. The Avian appeared to be unarmed, using only his talons and whatever weapons he took from the Ninjas.

So many ideas running through John's head.  Should we do something like a giant robot attack, or maybe aliens invade!  So many ideas of things to fight!  He looks to Lilly, "This room can simulate anything you said?"  John had never really transformed in front of someone before, and he wasn't sure how he was gonna deal with the new clothes afterwards part.  Maybe take everything off that he could use to be decent and keep anything that'll keep his decency before he can transform... He'll have to ask Lilly.  As they continue along, they enter the room to find this man fighting ninjas!  Woah, even ninjas?!  He seemed be doing pretty well, though he isn't attacking much... maybe a training exercise?  In either case, while watching him, John leans over to Lilly and asks "What am I gonna do about my clothes ripping and tearing when I transform?  Also, can you dodge like that?"

Lilly was still surprised she was able to get a spot in the Doom Room. Apparently Morgana had been hit with too much schoolwork to go through with Doom Room training today. It suited her fine, she even suspected she wanted to avoid it altogether. She elected to go in full costume. It was a good time to see if it held up under a fight. "Apparently. I haven't seen it for myself yet." She explained to him just before entering the Room. She peered down, eyes wide at the sight of the simulation, along with how fast Jann was dodging.. "Wow, OK. It really can."

She looked over John for a second the moment she heard the questions. "I think they have spare Uniforms just in case. Also..." Again, she peered down at the fight nervously. "I have my doubts."

A calm expression on his face, Jann continued to virtually flow around the various attacks. A blade here, a staff there. With little effort, he flipped, side-stepped, and flew above whatever came his way, using his wings to some effect. Still, it probably only scratched the surface of his aerial abilities, he seemed to stay ground-bound for now.

Then, after some more dodging, Jann’s stance changed. The next attack, as he sidestepped, he grabbed the Ninja’s arm, twisting it and taking over control of the weapon, while also kicking the Ninja backwards, into another one. Jann became a whirlwind of attacks, as he used each part of his body, and whatever weaponry his enemies were carrying, to one by one, take them all out of the fight.

As his foot connected with the last remaining ninja’s jaw during a wing-assisted 540 Roundhouse Kick, the simulation stopped, and the bland but technologically advanced walls of the Doom Room reappeared. Jann landed, stretched his legs for just a second, then walked towards the door, entering the observation deck just a few seconds afterwards, a towel on his shoulders. He didn’t look exhausted, but some sweat was forming on his forehead as he approached the other two. He wore the armored vest Lilly had seen before, with no clothes below, and some plain trackpants. He sounded pretty happy, his accent noticeable but less so than other times.

“Hey, you made it. Cool. What is the plan? We have 30 minutes, and endless possibilities.”

John notices the wings for the first time, and stares for but a second before recovering himself and introducing himself.

"Hello there, my name is John... Endless possibilities you say?  What about...?" John appears thoughtful for a moment, before giving Jann the most dead serious look he's given the entire time since he's been here.  It's a look of steely determination, one that means things are about to get heated.

"What.  About.  Rubber Ducky Godzilla?" His face is entirely being serious, with a small smirk being given to show he's only slightly kidding.  He leans off the serious look and laughs a small bit, trying to ease any tension.

"So what's your name?  I don't believe Lilly here ever told me.  Those were some really wicked dodging techniques, maybe you could teach me how to be a bit more... agile sometime?"  He smiles, and crosses his arm in a relaxed manner.  He notices his hair appears to be feathers but pretty much ignores it, the weirdness of the school already making even that seem normal.

Rosethorn crossed her arms and tilted her head. It almost looked like she was seriously considering it. "...Somehow I don't think they have that loaded somewhere. Maybe they have Zombie Werewolf Vikings?" She said with a shrug. It was hard to tell just how serious she was about that one.

"Anyway. This is Jann." Lilly said. She was getting to know the Avian a bit better but a lot about him was still a mystery to her.

The Avian took the two suggestions at face value, looking a bit contemplative. He approached closer, looking at one of the consoles in the room. Each step he took seemed calculated, yet also effortless. He began to speak some more, while waiting for the console to show him something.

“Can help you, yes. All about training, really. Body has to want to do it. ” A short pause, then he looked down at the console. “I imagine Godzilla will be difficult, the room is only so big. But perhaps, we can somehow combine the two? “

Jann clicked a few buttons on the touchscreen, he seemed to know the interface quite well, it probably wasn’t his first time down here. Through the observation deck, the teens could see the environment become a dark forest, large trees blocking out the sun. “Looks right. Terrain will be a bit difficult, but that also is the best training.” He clicked one final button to confirm what he had entered, as the supervising teacher just looked up from his magazine and gave him a questioning look, before shrugging and continuing to read.

“Simulation will start once we’re inside. Group combat.“ With that, he walked to the door, putting his towel into a corner and grabbing three short metal sticks, which clicked into a part of his armor, right on his waist.

John looked nervously at Lilly, then back at Jann before stepping through first.  He sees it's actually pretty dark in the simulation, even outside of being a sealed room.  He smells a little bit to discover it's got a fairly earthy smell and roams around for a moment, touching a tree.  He feels the bark and finally decides now is the time to transform, gain some senses back.  He knows it'll be still working as Lilly and Jann come through, so he gives a bestial roar that reverberates throughout the forest and lets the beast come forth.  He hears his muscles swelling to the point of ripping and tearing through his clothes, and then keep going, he looks and sees the forest crystal clear.  His skin turns grey and his nails grow into massive claws, capable of ripping through one of these trees.  Schlorp!  His tail makes it's appearance as well, shooting out of his back, right above his butt, before slamming into the ground with enough force to shake the vicinity.  And finally, his wings come flying out of his back, stretching to their full length upwards.

"RRRRAAAWWWWR!"  He screams with a bestial fury.  He smells Jann and Lilly right behind him, and turns around to meet them, his pose very much changed now.  He seems to walk with a confidence like nothing can touch him, his wings cradling his body like a form of a cloak.  Somehow, even a small loincloth appeared to keep his privacy in check.  He looks down at that, "Hmm... that's new."  His voice has changed, becoming this buttery smooth growl of a voice, like it wasn't made for english.  "Well, this is the power I normally keep hidden.  Impressive is it not?"

There was an eerie moment the immediate area around Lilly went silent, her eyes wide and her body frozen. "Wait. Are you serious?" She asked Jann just as he re-entered the Doom Room. With John following in close behind, she decided to follow close behind. Maybe Jahn was joking as well?

Entering the room, she frowned. She had started to get use to the faint ethereal presence the plants and trees in the school grounds seemed to radiate. Here is just felt a little off. She assumed this was just the result of the simulation overlooking something. Lilly raised her arm and watched it quickly become covered in thorny vines. Doesn't screw with my powers at least. Her line of thought was interupted by the sudden transformation of John. She even leapt back a bit when his tail came down on the ground. "I'd say that was impressive yes."

John’s transformation caused Jann to, from the middle of his step, take up a combat stance. His eyes remained open for quite some time, following each part of the transformation, not really affected by the low light. One of his hands was hovering at around his waist, similarly to that of a western gunslinger, while the other was in front of his torso, ready to push or pull.

Once it was clear that this was just John’s power, Jann continued to walk forward, looking more relaxed again. He scanned the body, the Gargoyle being just somewhat taller than him. “Impressive yes. Quite useful, can probably help you with the agility with those wings. “

As all three of them had gathered in a spot, Jann looked upwards, and, as if it had been planned, a noise filled the room. The very, very recognizable noise of a rubber ducky, but really, really loud. “Here we go. “ And then, more rubber noises. The faint sound, coming from all directions, and quickly become louder and louder.

And then, through the darkness, the two winged teens with dark-vision could see their enemies approach. They were about as tall as a human, really furry and running on all fours. They also were green, and every time their feet touched the floor, they made the aforementioned rubber noises. And on their heads, they wore winged helmets.

They came in from all directions, and were quite fast. As they approached, their numbers became bigger, first one, then two, and soon five. The wolves weren’t very stealthy, so the others approaching groups were spotted quickly. They similarly, were made up of five Rubber Ducky Werewolf Zombie Vikings. The first of them approached the group, beginning to circle them, when one, larger than the others, jumped forward, accompanied by a loud squeak. Axe and shield in hand, it took a swing at Lilly, but was rather slow about it.

In the meantime, the groups formed up. They all were walking on two legs now, shields in their hands. Some of them with spears, some with swords, and a few with axes. Each of them stood off in a different direction, covering any means of escape. Not that the three teens were planning on escaping.

Rosethorns jaw dropped when they emerged from the darkness. "We are seriously doing this?!" She made a mental note to remember that Jann clearly did not get humour for future reference. Thankfully she shock about the situation was not enough to stop her from noticing the axe coming for her head. She ducked underneath the blade and instinctively readied a counter attack. She swung a thorn covered fist at the artificially created monstrosity, only for her fist to bounce off once it came in contact with its shield. Along with a very distinctive squeak. That's gonna get annoying fast.

Upon seeing Jann take a nice big blow, Gargoyle uttered a roar the blew the trees back slightly and flew forward full speed towards what appeared to be the boss.  He punched and connected with this one in the stomach, completely emptying him off breath, accompanied with a squeaky noise reminiscint of a deflating tire instead.  Gargoyle roared with all of his fury into the face of the toy in front of him.

"Don't you dare hurt my friends!  Try me."

The Werewolves seemed to be pretty well trained, as they launched towards Jann in two pairs. They came in fast, and Jann barely managed to get out of the way of the first few blows, jumping backwards and to the side. Ashe was about to take a step forward, and jump over the heads of his opponents, one of them hit him with his spear. A square hit, right in the chest. Fortunately, the armor protected from any serious damage, but right as Jann caught himself after the first attack, the second pair began to launch theirs, a flurry of blows.

Jann didn’t manage to dodge this time. Doing his best to not get hit too hard, his footing loosened, and he began to go to the ground, now kneeling with his back foot. Most the attacks had hit the armor, but a few had left minor wounds. And then, just as Jann was about to go on the offensive again, from behind a sword hit him straight in the arm.

Jann’s face became more stern at the added injury. Then, with a simple movement, he put his hands on the ground and pushed his legs upwards, hitting the Werewolf behind him in the jaw. The creature stumbled back a few steps, allowing Jann to similarly push himself backwards. As his hands left the ground, one went down to his waist, and grabbed his staff, extending at moment’s notice. A thrust backwards was enough to finish off the Viking that had attacked him, and without stopping, the quarterstaff came down on the head of one of the other combatants.

A third one received a thrust to the knee, followed up by an uppercut, also enough to take him out. Whatever momentum was left in Jann’s movement then got stopped by the fourth creature’s shield.

In the meantime, one group of Vikings had moved in to help their leader, jumping and running towards the Gargoyle, weapons extended.

Rosethorn ducked as the blades and fists started to fly in the Melee. She had to admit she was a bit impressed with the massive blow John landed on that rubber werewolf. Although as she looked around, she cringed when she saw the other wolves gang up on Jann and assaulted him from all sides. Lilly crouched down, touched the ground and focused. Within second Vines started to sprout from the ground, accompanied by the jaws of venus fly traps. Almost all of them were captured by the sudden floral invasion. And the air became full of more squeaks as the vines constricted harder and the Fly Traps gnawed on them. Really annoying.

Gargoyle smells the other group advancing on him and just uses his tail, deftly knocking their arms around and battling on two fronts.  With another punch, the packmaster goes scooting back a short distance before falling down, unconscious.

With th that threat down, Gargoyle turned around towards the group attacking him and roars, giving a grin at the sign that a true fight was on his hands possibly

Jann’s opponents began to attack once more, the loss of their support only staggering them for a short moment. By now, Jann had gotten up fully, and was standing ready to receive the next onslaught. The axe came down, perhaps not with full force, and Jann managed to first step to the side, then hit the axe with his staff, sending the arm off to the side.

Now standing to the side of one of the Vikings, Jann, with one swift motion, put his staff into the ground and grabbed onto the warrior’s shield, ripping it away from his opponent’s arm, the straps breaking in the process. With a swift motion, the shield, now held between the Avian’s hands, blocked the attack by the second Viking, before turning back towards the first one, where it connected right in the middle of the throat, immediately throwing the warrior to the ground, as Jann rolled away, once more pushing himself off the ground and flinging himself into a corkscrew, the shield leaving his hand and flying straight at other werewolf, once more taking him out of the occasion, with Jann now flying a few feet above the ground.

The enemies not affected by the vines seemed to be smarter than it first appeared, as they all began to move in on Rosethorn, once more fighting in groups of two. The ones stuck in their vines did not do much, a few lashed out at the Gargoyle, but to no effect.

Rosethorn smiled. Everything seemed to be going their way now. Then came the flurry of blows from the only wolves free from her botanical attack, with one of them come down on her back. It barely left even a mark on her, thanks to her altered physiology. Scowling, she stood back up, leading in with a upper cut to the wolf that attacked her. The attack did not seem to have much off an effect however as its head just snapped back into place along with another squeak to go with the canopy of sounds. Rosethorn just stood there awkwardly for a second, eyeing the other wolves that surrounded her. "uh...Guys? Bit of help please?"

When he noticed Lilly having the abominations fall upon her, and the completely ineffectual attack she did on them, he flew over to Lilly, getting between her and the toys, flaring his wings to fully obstruct her from their view.

"Leave her alone!" He growled, and did a full tail sweep, bringing it up at the end.  He managed to do it in such a way, that while half of them managed to jump over, the other half went down, except the last one.  That one went flying into the air, crashing against a tree and then going through it, slamming into another one and becoming embedded in it.  He turns slightly to say to Lilly, "Stay behind me and keep them snared and disabled."

From his elevated position, Jann had a good view on the battlefield. Lilly and John would probably be able to handle themselves against the few enemies that were still standing close to them, so instead Jann set his sights further away. Three Vikings had been conveniently vined up close to each other, offering a perfect opportunity to strike.

With a single flap, Jann began to soar into their direction. He grabbed a second quarterstaff from his waist, the first one still sticking in the ground below him.  As he reached a position above his targets, he dropped, staff first, straight into one of the warrior’s shoulder. Immediately, he launched into a kick, which got stopped dead in its track by a well placed shield.

All the while, the fight between the others continued. Their two allies taken out, the remaining Vikings attacked by themselves. Each took a step to the side, before bringing in their weapon again, one wielding an axe, one a sword. Both were solid hits, coming in not just with velocity, but also into threatening spots. And of course, they once more were accompanied by squeaking, even if by now the teens’ brains were just ignoring it.

Rosethorn was slowly backing away from the wolves, no longer feeling confident in attacking them directly since that seemed not work on them thus far. She stopped the moment John and Jann swooped down and started to lay into them. She nodded to John before focusing. Then she stomped her foot on the ground, forcing a fresh set of vines and venus fly traps out of the ground and onto the lone two wolves that remained. They quickly found themselves being hoisted from the ground and left at the mercy of Lilly's carnivorous plants.

"I think that might be the last of them." She said, looking around at the array of twisted abominations against nature they had created for training.

When Gargoyle felt one of them cause a little scratch, he roared once more, making them recoil back a little before they saw two giant fists punching them into the dirt at the same time.  He looked around for more to beat down and saw some still tangled in vines.  He started racing forward to get them as well

With most the Vikings now dealt with, the threat level had sunk. Yes, each of them was still a trained warrior, but taking them out became easier the more of them fell.

Jann was still engaged against two, sidestepping their blows with no effort. As an opportunity presented itself, his fist smacked down on one of the warrior’s hands, making him drop his weapon, and allowing Jann to follow up with his elbow, ramming it into the werewolf’s chest with a squeak. The second warrior was taken out with similar quickness. A flying side kick displaced the shield, as a few follow-up kicks put the warrior on the ground.

As he made sure neither enemy would get back up with two quick thrusts from his quarterstaff, his attention went to the rest of the battlefield. Three enemies remained, spread out across the area. Once more, he took to the sky, flying towards the first quarterstaff he had planted in the ground.

"...Or not." During the chaos, Rosethorn had missed the last 3 wolves standing. She could have sworn she had immobilised the rest in vines. But in the end it did not matter. Lilly rushed forward and landed a punch right in the face of one of the last wolves. Instead of not doing anything, it went flying in the air before tumbling into a heap on the ground. It did not seem to move, save for a long deflated squeak. The blow completely knocked the thing though. "You got the last one John?" She asked, looking over her shoulder.
