Waverider didn’t even know what was going on anymore. She was an LA girl with a mutation. This was way out of her wheelhouse. She barely managed to shrug off whatever that guy had dropped half the school with. And then there was a giant magic spell, and…were those gods throwing around power? Out of her wheelhouse and out of her weight class for sure. But…it wasn’t like she could run away. People were in danger. She had to protect them. So she flung out a hand and sent a wave of vibratory energy flying at…Chosech, he said his name was? Whatever, it didn’t matter. Whether or not she actually hurt him didn’t really matter, either. If she bought another second for whatever the magic and gods were doing to work, then she was doing her job right.

A blinded Choshech was driven back by the flurry of blows from the empowered Nighthawk but unharmed it seemed by the searing slashes of her claws.  Throwing up an arm to block the vibratory barrage waverider unleashed he snarled, "You shall all PAY for the your insolence!"  the shadow man bellowed voice breaking with strain.  He swung awkwardly toward where Ouroboros channeled his spell and unleashed a withering blast of shadow in the young magus' direction the bolt of darkness sweeping wide past the dhampirs head seemingly unnoticed under the deep concentration Huang maintained to keep the searing light above him banishing the shadows from the courtyard.

What the hell? He'd vaguely listened to Set's speech (as usual envious of people who could just stand there in the middle of a firefight talking without being torn to pieces) - but the sudden strike of lightning, the feeling of real power flowing across his limbs and over his flesh, was more than he could have possibly imagined. For an instant it was tempting - until the cold, liquid knowledge of that pwoer really meant came pouring through him. He took that power and shoved it out and away, off the frame he was determined to keep all-too-human and into the bow that was like his right arm.

Woodsman popped out from behind the cover of the fountain in the middle of the green and fired. The bolt, crackling all over with green and gold lightning, struck Chosech in the middle of the chest and exploded with a loud bang, a sound matched a moment later by a bolt of lightning that came crackling down out of the darkened sky and struck the shadow-controller in the hole in his shadowy armor blown open by the bolt, an unnatural bolt that lingered, and lingered, as Chosech howled in agony -

Until finally, he dropped. His face set and his pupils round, Woodsman leaped out from behind the fountain - trading his bow for his hatchet. "Tell me," he growled as he stalked towards the helpless man. "Do you bleed? You will."

"Woodsman," Nighthawk's voice rang out from where she had taken a defensive position - thankfully, she was closer than her boyfriend but the usually cool tempered vigilante pounced on Chosech with leonine swiftness. With her eyes glowing - literally - with righteous fury, she drug the creature who had terrorized their school up by the throat with clawed fingertips and gave the man a little shake. Still, despite the outward signs of Sekhmet's blessing and the unusual temper, Robin was in full control as she lifted the monster aloft.

"You terrorized our school. You hurt my friends." Nighthawk's tone was almost conversational, her hand flexing as she added, "I suggest you tell me why before I toss you to the man with the axe who happens to have less patience."

Ouroboros

As the last of the shadows fell and Choshech crumpled under the empowers teens attacks Ouroboros released the spell he had held and fell to the ground on hands and knees as he willed the power he had perhaps foolishly grappled back into the surrounding lands.  Pushing himself upright though still down on one knee he looked around his breathing labored as he tried to survey the damage wrought by the attack on the school and it's students.  Already the windows were filled with Staff and Student alike looking down at the group who had faced down the shadowy terror in stark silence as Nighthawk shook him like a ragdoll.  With a whispered spell he engaged the third eye to examine the person behind the attack now dangling fragile and oh so human from his classmates grasp.  "That power was not his, and he's lost it in defeat."  he gasped out as he struggled to his feet.  "Something powerful."  he mused aloud, "Sent him, or perhaps chose him."  he shook his head trying to clear the fog of exhaustion.  Coming to Sets side he looked to the godling questioningly, "Are you ok?"

Set mumbled something indistinct in her native tongue; Huang caught the word for 'barge' and from context gathered the meaning to be something equivalent to 'five more minutes'. Sekhmet roused herself to coherence more quickly, pushing herself back up into a seated position, shoulders drooping with obvious exhaustion. The leonine goddess looked not pale per se but rather diminished in some difficult to describe way. Indeed, the bulk of her divine essence was still with Nighthawk across the lawn, Sekhmet's brow creased with concentration in maintaining the ritual until she could be sure the threat was over.

Eventually Ouroboros' hand on her shoulder brought Set back to the presence with a pained hiss and fingers pressed to her scalp as if to forcibly keep her brain inside her skull. "Victory has been secured, aye? I be alive enough to have a headache so one might assume the villain successfully routed." There was a note of rambling in her voice, white noise to fill the silence as her grey eyes focused and unfocused on Huang's face. Abruptly her attention snapped to the confrontation still ongoing, specifically to the way Woodsman was standing at the ready with his axe. The godling's fingers tightened around the warlock's arm. "...you may need to intercede, sweet," she warned him in a lowered voice. "Methinks your odorous classmate has a more... classical sense of 'bad cop'."

Head lolling to the side as the dazed avatar of Darkness struggled to focus on his captor.  As the shadow powers sustaining him slowly drained away a sallow man of middle years was revealed as he latched onto the apparition of the avenging lion holding him aloft fear grew in his eyes followed by disbelief and anger, "NO!  You were to all fall, She would suffer as Roman has and see all the Raven has built turn to ash."  he babbled incoherently, "You must be punished for your sins."  he lamented voice strained and mind broken as he gasped straining to breath, "He comes."  the fallen avatar declared feebly, "It doesn't matter now, we're all sinners and the end comes."  he whispered as he slipped from consciousness and the last of the shadows faded from the sky.  Nighthawk could swear as his breath rattled in his lungs she could pick out a thread of malodorous sulfur with her divinely enhanced senses hiding beneath the reak of woodsman's scent obscuring cloud.

The glow of divine empowerment had largely faded from Woodsman, leaving behind a look of cold, suppressed fury. The muscles in his arm bunched tight as he held back instincts that would have put a final end to their enemy - and certainly his career at Claremont. Instead he put his hand on Nighthawk's shoulder, giving strength as much as taking it. They'd both been through a lot that day. It was hard, suddenly, not to envy Raina down in Mexico, who got to spend time with her boyfriend with nothing worse than some flies in the sky. "C'mon. We got the guy. Let magic people keep 'em down. We got cleanup t'do. If that guy killed anybody, they'll leave him for the bears."

Ouroboros

"Ah Riley talks like that but ..."  Huang paused, "Well he's had alot of ther.."  Frowning Huang nodded and turned toward his classmates, "You might be right beautiful."  he admitted and took a half step toward the pair when Riley seemed to get it together and he glanced back with a weak shrug and strode toward the felled foe.  "Oh for sure imprisoning demonically empowered zealots is my jam."  he noted perhaps sounding more sarcastic than intended with his temporally displaced slang.

With a whispered incantation the teen summoned up his mage sight to see what if any power remained with the recent threat.  He glanced from the villain to Set then back and bit his lip, "You know he's pretty much tapped out,"  he noted sidelong, "I'm sure he's not getting up before the big guns arrive."  he looked down muttering under his breath, "Hopefully not my mom."  If they were lucky Seven alerted first and would come to scold him before his mother had a chance to ground him again. He glanced to Set and Sekhmet, "If you are tired yet oh She Before Whom Evil Trembles, I can promise safe return of your charge."  he offered though it seemed doubtful even if the lioness took him up on his offer it would go as he'd have otherwise hoped.

Sekhmet muttered something under her breath that came out more as an indistinct growl as she finally relaxed her grip on the ritual and forced herself unsteadily to her feet. From the way she was staggering it seemed as though stubborn will was keeping her upright more than any strength of limb. "I require beer."

"Tis a school, She Who Mauls," Set reminded her wearily, covering her eyes with one hand while trying to push herself up off of the group with the other. When that failed to raise her from her seated position the godling huffed in irritation and reached up for Huang's hand expectantly.

"Aye? And so?"

The shorter woman looked to the leonine warrior with a squint and pursed lips, trying for something appropriately pithy and finding the part of her mind usually reserved for off-hand jibes to presently be occupied by a throbbing migraine. "Surely the duchess of the dunes be too pretty for such aggravation."

Waverider wondered to herself what that had to do with anything. She was checking on the students who had fallen nearby. To her nonexistent medical and mystic knowledge, they were okay enough. It had been a long, long day. She’d taken the same half step Ouroboros had before Woodsman had gotten himself under control again. Everyone seemed to have come out of this all right, but it wasn’t over. Somebody had given this guy power. That much was obvious. But that was mostly likely someone else’s problem. Not that Naomi was trying to avoid the situation. It was just the reality of being a superhero. A lot of times you didn’t see the end of the story yourself. She pulled out her notebook and wrote something, being able to “hear” what the other heroes were saying, even as far away as she was. She walked over to the two deities and their friend (well, probable friend). [I don’t know…even supermodels have problems.]
