November 2, 8:00 PM; Hanover Second National Bank
All seemed quiet on the streets of North Freedom. Most businesses had closed hours ago, and the few that had remained open after sunset were beginning to lock their doors and count their registers. Pax flew high overhead, relishing the crisp night air upon his face as he made a quick circuit of Freedom City. It was like nothing he had ever seen, and so very far removed from the landscape of his native Hawaii.

Man, this is awesome!

His quiet contemplation of the cities wonder's were interrupted by a loud crash below. Halting his flight, he looked down upon the streets and saw the source of the commotion: half a dozen humanoid robots had crashed through the double doors of Hanover Second National!

Uhh, I didn't see them a second ago... weird.

Pax felt something uneasy in the pit of his stomach, something he hadn't felt since his mother took him rock-diving for the first time. He was nervous, maybe even a little scared. Never-the-less, he descended upon the crowd of robots ready for anything.

Not too very far away, two other costumed figures moved through the chill of the Freedom City night. Wander stuck to the rooftops, moving quickly and smoothly from one to another pausing long enough to look around at the quiet streets. "Hanover's pretty well covered," she murmured to her companion, "lot of heroes spend time here. But it's got a lot of tech stuff, a fair number of wealthy people, so it's still a target for bad guys. When you're out here, keep an eye out for strange lights and noises, and for interference on your phone or radio. Lots of the tech villains can mess with communications, so it's sometimes a sign something's wrong."

Even as she said that, Wander's Young Freedom radio began to crackle with static. She pursed her lips. "Yeah, like that. Come on."

Corb-No, Cobalt Templar, had been flying just behind and to the right of Wander, wanting to be able to easily follow her lead and hear her words.

He'd been issued a radio for this patrol, so he too picked up on the static.

"Interference...huh. Good call. On the phone, you just shrug it off, but I guess this city out to have great coverage..."

With that, he made sure to increase his speed a bit, to make sure he kept up with Young Freedom's lady brawler.

Erin led the way across the rooftops, guided by the intensity of the static on her radio, then by the noises of a fight. "Be ready," she warned Cobalt Templar. "Something's going down, probably over at the bank. Stay close to me, and if I tell you to break off, do it. There's no reason to get yourself hurt or killed because of a patrol mission," she told him firmly. Taking her bat from its holster, she spun the slender weapon to its full five-foot length, then approached the edge of the roof to take in the situation.

Pax got a better view of what's going on when he set foot on the street behind the metal men. They marched in two rows, three robots long, and the second robot of each row had just stepped over the wreckage of the double doors when the new hero spoke.

"You're breaking the law, ya know!" he shouted to the backs of the assembled machines, hoping to sound confident.

The rear guard of the left column turned to regard Pax. It lifted it's left arm, which ended in a rounded cannon instead of a hand, and unleashed a beam of blue-white energy. The energy stream hit Pax square in the chest, though the attack didn't penetrate the young man's unseen cosmic aura.

"Ya, ok. We can do it the hard way, if ya want!"

Unknown to either Pax or the robotic horde, the attack was witnessed by a pair of heroes on patrol.

The skeletal robot's attack hadn't pahsed Pax in the least. The robot's combat-processor assessed the situation and relayed the information to it's counterparts.

In unison, the robotic horde turned around to face Pax, eyes blazing red. They brought their weapons to bear, ready to unleash a barrage of energy blasts at the new comer.

"Perfect," Wander told Cobalt Templar with a quick nod. "See if you can pick off some of the ones closer to that guy down there. He's way outnumbered, but we can even the odds." With that, she leapt off the roof, a graceful missile barreling towards one of the largest robots. Keeping her feet together, she drilled them into the back of the robot's head, right at the joint between head and neck, then used the change in momentum to launch herself into an aerial flip that put her next to the hero on the ground. "We're here to help," she told him shortly.

The metal monstrosity was decapitated by the force of Wander's drill kick, dropping to a heap before Wander finished her aerial flip to land next to Pax. Witnessing a loss to their squad, the remaining robot's turned their arm cannon's towards Wander, a shrill buzzing and blue-white glow preceding their attack!

"We're here to help," she told him shortly.

Looking at the wreckage of the robotic humanoid with wide eyes, Pax exclaimed, "Thanks for the assist, ya know!"

Taking a cue from his new companion, Pax leaped the distance towards the closest robot and laid into with a superman punch, but his awesome strength had no effect on the construct other than to rock it's head to the side. It turned it's gaze back upon the new hero, red eyes blazing in the night.

Uh-oh...

"Robots...Gotta love hero work." the boy in blue armor opined as the fray was entered by Wander.

He gave a low whistle of admiration when she knocked the head off of a robot with her first blow. He settled into "business mode" when he saw there were more robots, and they weren't happy.

"Not like robots are ever happy or anything else..."

He quickly lowered his altitude, adjusting his aim as the fellow below gave a solid hit to a robot that did almost nothing. He pulled the trigger, sending a bolt of searing blue energy at the aggressive construct.

"I've got you covered from above, pal! Stay on your toes and we'll be fine!"

'That didn't sound really heroic...no time for that!'

His frown at his own awkward words settled into an expression of concentration and resolve as he surveyed the field of battle, trying to pick his next target...

The skeletal robots stood motionless for a moment, assessing the situation. One of their numbers had been destroyed and another damaged by a new opponent. A silent communication was passed between them and a battle plan was formed. Four of the robots broke off into pairs, each duofiring their arm mounted blaster cannons at Wander and Cobalt Templar, with the remaining robot aiming at the tan hero in blue and yellow.

Wander wasn't able to dodge the concentrated fire, but it didn't matter. Her enhanced physiology was able to withstand the kinetic blast. Meanwhile, Cobalt Templar easily maneuvered away from the blue-white blasts, and they traveled harmlessly into the night sky.

Pax, however, was not so lucky. In awe at Wander's display of raw, physical prowess and Cobalt Templar's neo-archaic armor and materialized blaster rifle, he barely had time to register the remaining robot's cannon aimed directly at his chest. His eyes went wide as the barrel began to glow, followed by a stream of kinetic force!

Just as it seemed that Pax would be blasted clear across the street, Wander came running, knocking him to the side and absorbing the beam with her own super-tough skin. It singed her costume a little, but left her mostly unharmed. "You need to find cover," she told him shortly, before vaulting back into the fight!

She targeted the other large robot this time, giving it a punishing double-fisted punch in the head before kicking off against its chest and leaping back out to stand between the robots and her less-experienced allies.

Pax was beside himself. He didn't even think he'd see any action on his first night out, let alone fight side by side with other superheroes. A flying blue knight that seemed to summon weapons out of nowhere and a pale girl clad in blue and gold.

"We're here to help," she told him shortly. "You need to find cover."

"I've got you covered from above, pal! Stay on your toes and we'll be fine!"
"Good looking out," he shouted to the pair, "but I can pull my own weight. I just got caught up in the moment, ya know?"

He pressed his fist into his open hand and cracked his knuckles, eyeballing the robot that he had punched earlier to no avail. He wasn't going to let this scrap heap look like a fool, especially in front of his companions.

He willed his cosmic aura to surge and flew towards the robot and struck it in the chest plate. There was visible damage, but still the construct failed to fall.

Whoa, this chick must be an Amazon or something, dropping these things the way she is...

Cobalt Templar and Pax laid into the machine, but even their combined might couldn't destroy it, but it looked really messed up. The remaining robots congregated on the sidewalk outside of the bank in a diamond formation, two firing upon Cobalt Templar and two aiming at Pax, and each pair hitting their mark!.

Wander heard a {{POP}} of displaced air behind her, but wasn't fast enough to react to the savage blow delivered by the massive wardroid that teleported in behind her.

Wander spun when she heard the pop of air, her body in motion before her mind had even processed the sound. Arcing her body into a backflip to avoid the wash of fire that coated the street where she'd been standing, she turned a series of flips almost too fast for the eye to catch, moving here and there, up and down, until she fetched up behind the wardroid with its head turned the other way. In another series of blindingly fast moves, she delivered a pair of absolutely punishing blows to its joints, trying to smash the thing in half with her bare fists! "We've got a big one!" she called a warning to the other heroes.

Pax looked over to the source of the noise and saw young lady already in motion, pummeling the hulking droid. Bringing his attention back to his own figth and pumped up from watching Cobalt Templar and the heroine clad in blue and gold, he pulled his fist back, ready to deliver a haymaker that was sure to the head off the frail-by-comparison-to-the-hulking-wardroid robot... too bad he swung too hard and missed!

Ahh, man, now these guys are gonna think I'm lame...

Corbin's eyes widen as the robots turn towards him. He tries to dodge, but fails to move in time. Luckily, he managed to simply shrug off the energy, thanks to the protections of his ring's magic.

"My turn, punks!"

His large weapon started to glow, then faltered as Corbin's attention slipped for a moment. He refocused, and fired another blast at the same robot. Better to strike at a known weak enemy. Wander seemed to have the larger bot well in hand, for now at least.

Blue-white kinetic blasts fired at the heroic trio to little effect. Some distance away, police sirens grew louder as they approached the scene, no doubt as the result of a silent alarm. Whoever had sent the machines didn't think the robbery would take this long, or perhaps they hadn't thought that interference from Freedom City's superheroes would be encountered (amateur, or just plain arrogant, you be the judge).

The wardroid's battle chassis showed considerable damage from Wander's barehanded assault, though it was made to take heavy punishment. In retaliation, it whipped around with a speed and grace that belied it's size, took aim at Wander and fireda bolt of force directly into the young heroine's midsection!

A hollow, tinny voice rang out in unison from each of the machines. ::PRIORITY.REALLOCATION.RESUME.OPERATION::

With that, the four undamaged drones returned to the shattered door of the bank and disappeared into the lobby, leaving behind it's damaged counterpart and the wardroid to battle the young heroes!

Wander doubled over with the blast, clutching her midsection as the invisible wave of energy smashed into her, turning the pavement around her into rubble with a force that would've killed most people. For a moment, she couldn't straighten at all, unable to breathe and nauseated with the force of the impact. She sucked in a wheezy breath, even as panic tumbled in from the darkest corners of her mind, whispering to her that this could be the end, that she was about to be overwhelmed, that she would fail again, and someone she'd undertaken to protect would die, and it would be all her fault...

Erin forced herself upright, closing the few feet between herself and the robot. This time there were no tricks, not that she could've managed them right now. No flips, no fancy moves, no padded bat. She walked straight up to the thing and drove her fists into it as hard as she could with a gutteral scream of defiance! As she struck, she noticed a seam that was pulling apart, up near the join of head and neck. Mustering all her strength, she concentrated on that place, hitting as hard as she could, again and again!

The machine calculated Wander's death in approximately 4.1 seconds, it's skull-like visage taunting the young heroine. Although it lacked the ability to show surprise, it certainly felt it as she roared and laid a powerful blow to it's chest. The armor shell was heavily damaged now, the brackets holding it's upper torso armor to it's frame had shattered, revealing sensitive inner workings. Before it could react, Wander continued to hammer her fists into the exposed parts, sparks and shrapnel sent flying with each powerful strike, and within seconds the behemoth was nothing more than a heap of scrap laying at Wander's feet.

"Yeah, that's how it's done, ya know?" Pax said to no one in particular as the hulking robot collapsed. Hearing polic sirens in the distance, he looked to both of his companions and asked, "So, are we allowed to go inside the bank and clear the rest of them out, or do we wait for the policemen to arrive?"

Cobalt Templar lowers himself to the ground near Wander and Pax, glancing around. At Pax's question, he pauses.

"Um...that's a good question. Wander, what's our standard protocol here?"

He looks to the older, stronger, more experienced hero at his question. His general demeanor suggests he'd like to charge in after the robots, but he's also restraining himself until given direction by his designated "team lead".

Wander was not looking well after the battle with the giant robot. She couldn't stand up straight, and something cracked inside her was making her wheeze when she breathed. It was obvious that she was in no fit condition to take the fight inside, where there could be a standoff, or security protocols they didn't know about. She looked at her two grass-green compatriots, then towards the bank. "Let the police handle it," she told them. "We took out the big one, and enough of the little ones to weaken their force. The cops can do the rest, and they'll already know the layout and the security inside."

She looked over at Pax. "Get in touch with us sometime, use the Young Freedom website. Put it to my attention and I'll get it." Turning, she studied the building she'd jumped down from, and listened to her body telling her how painful it would be to make the return jump. "I've got to get back to the school," she admitted quietly to Corbin.
