  1. December 25th Continued from >Mind Over Matter Fast-Forward was back on the streets of Freedom City so fast he barely had time to grab a candy cane from a department store giveaway as he made his way to his first destination. It was evening New Jersey time when he appeared at Dancia Devons' front door in Lincoln, where his super-speed knock sounded like a machine gun's rat-a-tat before he slowed himself back down (and sped everything else up) until once again he was in sync with the normal world. Knocking firmly, he called, "Dancia Devons! Dancia Devons!" When she opened the door, the Discovery Channel personality on Dancia's doorstep said without preamble, "Scarab needs you to save the world from robot psychics from space." He glanced around quickly to make sure no one was in the hallway; luckily her neighbors were all still enjoying their Christmas. "How quickly can you get to Puerto Rico?"
  2. Ditko Street Wednesday, August 13th, 2014 6:32 PM Another workday done. The question was whether or not he'd have to work the evening as well. Kyle Steward made his way through Riverside, stopping to bask in the summer heat. The good news about his workplace was that it wasn't exactly a gigantic bastion of professionalism; the bad news was he still had to wear long-sleeved shirts every so often. Fortunately, he'd managed to shuck the shirt and go in just a T-shirt. The sun was just starting to dip down, but it was still somewhat hot and humid. The iced coffee was helping, but there was still a ways to go. All in all, though, things were peaceful. Steamy, sweaty, and crowded, but peaceful. There was a cool breeze kicking up under the muggy air, and it promised an interesting night. It was enough to cause him to almost get lost in thought. And then the shrieking started. The first eruption happened right next to him, in a car pulling into a parking space. The driver lost control, colliding with the car in front of him. Then came the radio at the newsstand down the street. Then the PA system at the nearby coffee shop. Soon, the entire street was awash in cacophony. Through the bursts of distortion, Kyle could hear words... but they weren't in any Earth language. He tapped his bracelet, hoping the sight might go unnoticed amongst all the chaos. The language filtered into his ears, swiftly translating. It was Lor, and although it was garbled, he could make out a few pieces. "Alone... fallen... help... dead... dead... stranded..." And all across Freedom, the static spread, erupting from every device attuned to radio waves. Repeating the same request...

  4. Player Name: RobRX Character Name: Silver Magus Power Level: 10 / 11 (150PP/160PP) Trade-Offs: None Unspent Power Points: 10 Progress To Bronze Status: 10/30 In Brief: Sorcerer combine magic and technology to fight evil in a suit of armor. Alternate Identity: Kyle Finley Identity: Secret Birthplace: Freedom City Occupation: Inventor Affiliations: ASTRO Labs Family: Davis Finley (Father, Deceased), Karen Emery (Mother, Deceased), Olivia Finley (Sister) Description: Age: 38 (DoB: 1975) Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5’9†Weight: 170lb Eyes: Green Hair: Ginger Kyle has the type of face one would associate with the typical ‘old magician’...if that magician was still in his late ‘30. He has an aquiline nose and a very deep set, bordering on ominous gaze despite his good nature. When younger, he was often teased or mocked for having a somewhat thuggish face. His hair is cropped short and he has a small beard. Any longer would make putting on his armor impractical. Click Kyle Finley to see his secret identity. Power Descriptions: Kyle Finley is trained in the arcane arts as well as a good inventor, skills he has put to use in building a suit of armor that combine technology and magic. The suit augment his mystical abilities thanks to computer assistance, amongst other things. History: Kyle Finley was born in Freedom City in 1975. He and his sister were rather late children, their parents in their forties. Olivia, Kyle’s sister, was born only two years after him. His childhood was mostly unremarkable, save for the fact he lived in Freedom City (where truly bizarre things can and do happen). For the most part, he’s kept to himself and later went studying abroad, away from the city. Eventually worked at ASTRO Labs where he became acquainted with his friend (and later arch-enemy) Lester Everett, later known as Khavanda. Lester had always been interested in ancient history and lost civilizations. Lester had looked for a long time for someone to provide him with advanced technology and money to help him fund a very dangerous expedition. Finally managing to convince Kyle to accompany him to explore and research what he believed to be subterranean ruins of an ancient civilization deep in the South Pacific, Lester lead his friend and fellow co-workers deeper and deeper into the earth. There, Lester found a dangerous magical artifact, the Teeth of Khavanda whose recovery had been the secret purpose of this expedition all along. Lester, now Khavanda, mocked Kyle for his naivety and his reliance on modern science. Ancient magic and sorcery were the true path to power. They were the truth of this reality. Kyle eventually escaped, lost and ashamed; he had helped unleash an ancient evil upon the world. For years, he travelled around the world, looking for a way to atone and perhaps even stop Khavanda. At times, he even considered that it might not be his problem; after all, earth certainly has many powerful protectors. Still, he couldn’t just walk away from this. And so Kyle Finley followed rumour after rumour, eventually arriving at Shambala Vale where he studied the art of magic in hopes of eventually banishing Khavanda back to whatever foul dimension it crawled up from. There he long debated and wondered where he was going and what he believed in; science and the modern world or magic and the ancient world. Recently, Kyle has returned to Freedom City after a five year absence. Once back, he found out that his parents had both passed away in his absence. Having finally realized what his true path was, he secluded himself in his old lab. Having finally understood that science and magic were both valid path, he turned his skills to crafting tools that would combine the best of both worlds. Forging himself a glistening suit of powered armor, Kyle Finley became THE SILVER MAGUS! Personality & Motivation: The Silver Magus primarily wish to banish Khavanda from earth. However, this has since evolved into a desire to protect earth from all manners of foul threats. Presumably magical ones, but one can’t be picky about what evil they fight. Powers & Tactics: The Silver Magus is an inexperienced fighter and a decent mystic. His armor augment his versatility and his defensive abilities. Since Kyle also keep his identity a secret, he tries to avoid being seen using magic outside of his armor. It's better for his ennemies to think that all his powers are dependant on the armor. Complications: Enemy: Khavanda is a dangerous foe to the Silver Magus and the two actively try to destroy each others. Secret: Kyle's identity as the Silver Magus is meant to be a secret. Forbidden Fruit: Sometimes, the desire for knowledge mean Kyle can go too far and fall into hubris, all in the name of knowledge. Gullible: It's easy to abuse Kyle's trust. Ophidiophobia: Snakes really freak him out. This also applies to the accursed Snake people of Lemuria. 5. NSW Trainlink Melbourne, Australia December 1st, 2013 6:15 AM The construction of a high-speed rail link along Australia's Eastern coast from Melbourne to Brisbane had long been a dream denied fruition until the government finally came to a resolution in funding such an ambitious project. A bullet train capable of scaling the distance between Melbourne and Sidney in only four hours was like a dream. But Michael Fields was no ordinary dreamer, so he made sure that Fields Technology intervened during the design phase lobbying for high-end cost-effective improvements on the overall design. Until eventually Fields Technology was given the helm of the project, and they wasted little time improving the Bullet Train's speed to cross the distance between Melbourne and Sydney to only two hours. If the experimental railway proved successful enough, Fields Technology could possibly even get the green light to improve railways all over the country. The Government was also quick realize the potential increase in revenue due to tourism if such a venture was indeed a success. Michael Fields was quick to join in on the new bullet train's maiden voyage after all his company's reputation had a lot riding on the investment. And it was still a work day after all. The new train wouldn't set off for another half an hour. But commuters were already lining up trying to get a seat. Some on their way to work. Some on vacation. And others were simply wanting to hitch a ride on the bullet train early on. Luckily, there was room for any matter of passengers.
  6. Freedom City University January 4, 2014 It was late on the night of January 4th when the alarm began ringing at Freedom City University's Physics Building; the clang-a-lang-a-lang of the old brass striker in the big red alarms located high above each of the building's original entrances. The campus was mostly quiet right now; classes weren't back in session and most students were still away lingering over the holidays with their families, and it was late enough that most of the people who used the campus for other purposes were home. Under dark, cloudy skies and a mostly empty, snow-covered campus, lit only by the ever-present glow of security lights, the alarms rang again and again - while dark deeds were carried out in the shadowed Physics building and a man's life lay in the balance.
