  1. Started work on DC Block. Took out Cosmic Awareness and Snare and Danger Sense and one other thing to acquire Space Travel 3 on its own. Used the last point on the Attractive Feat.
  2. Player Name: GamerXZ Character Name: Quanta Power Level: 10 (150/150PP) Trade-Offs: +2 Attack / -2 Damage, +/-0 Defense / +/-0 Toughness Unspent Power Points: 0 In Brief: Former human that inherited cosmic power and now trying to do some good with it. Residence: (Optional) Where the character normally resides / lives (if anywhere). Catchphrase: "Let The Show Begin" Alternate Identity: Alan Parker Identity: Secret Birthplace: Earth 27732 Occupation: Dimension-Hopping Cosmic Witch Affiliations: Whatever cosmic entity decides to bother them at the time. Family: Alice Parker (Mother/Alive) Louis Parker (Father/Alive) Description: Age: 21 (DoB: April 23, 1996) Gender: Male/Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5 Foot, 10 Inches Weight: 170 Pounds Eyes: Green Hair: Short, Deep Brown On top of the details above, his physical appearance is about-average with fair skin that borders on being slightly tanned, and just a little bit of bulkiness in the shoulders with a face that's typically cleanly-shaven. His normal human guise includes a deep blue tank top and black sweatpants with shoes and grey hoodie. As Quanta, their body is female and fairly-toned with milky skin and violet eyes and dark violet hair that goes down to just past their knees and they wear attire that is a mix of black with violet highlights consisting of black gloves that stop just short of their shoulders and a bodysuit along with heeled thigh-high boots and a flowing cape that is black on the outside but with drawings of eldritch runes and various beasts on the violet under-side. Cosmos takes the form of their black witch hat. They can alter their form, but this is generally what one may consider their "hero" form. Personality & Motivation: Alan is a rather kind, soft-spoken type of individual with a strong desire to learn and an equally strong desire to help those around him. He likes to take things at his own pace most of the time, and does not like to rush, preferring to enjoy the moment rather than rush onwards to the next big adventure and loves to have fun and entertain. However, when devoted to something, he becomes very serious and loses some of his wit and easy-going attitude. His desire to aid others is rooted in a strong sense of empathy born out of his father abandoning him and his mother when he was a child and not wanting other people to experience that same pain. It's to the point he can be wracked with guilt about not being able to solve certain types of crisis or not doing as good a job as he thinks he could've. However, his relationship with authority figures is complicated at best. He tends to only follow orders when he feels he has a good reason to, and is more than willing to oppose them when he feels they abuse their power. He also has no qualms about socializing with characters that others would find suspicious or shady, a possible symptom of his earlier-mentioned empathy. Powers & Tactics: Quanta derives their power from the cosmic energy infused in their body, allowing them a host of incredible abilities, including firing energy blasts, creating dimensional rifts, conjuring anything they can think of, cosmic awareness, altering the molecular structure of both themselves and other things, and so on. Quanta's abilities allow them to be very adaptable in combat, but they seem to have a preference for attacking from long range using the various weaponry and abilities they can wield. However, they are not all explosions and lasers, preferring to either try and be diplomatic with the enemy and take the time to observe the area before moving in. If the enemy is injured and seemingly unable to fight back, they'll even try to get them to surrender. Power Descriptions: When they access their powers, their eyes take on a type of Kaleidoscope design and they tend to get some type of swirling streams of cosmic energy around their hands. When morphing their body, parts or all of them get replaced by some sort of black-violet substance until they get what they want. This same substance appears as an aura around an object when they are altering it. Sometimes they may snap their fingers when conjuring something, said item appearing from a light that traces the object in the air before materializing it. Quanta may even manually draw it if they want it to assume a certain shape. Complications: Name: With Great Power: Alan is aware of the huge responsibility that his power comes with but that don't mean he's always happy about it, especially when it gets in the way of things he and Cosmos want to do, namely leading a peaceful existence leaping between dimensions and helping people in need while being with friends. Of course, when an actual crisis rears its head, it can conflict with whatever schedule he has at the time, which can put a strain on some relationships. I Am Not My Father: To say Alan dislikes his father would be an big understatement and his desire to not be him is strong indeed. It's to the point that he will prioritize saving lives over stopping the villain most times, which can be used by the enemy to dissuade him from stopping their escape by endangering bystanders. History: Alan's story is not exactly what one would call the happiest, but nor is it downright tragic. The correct term to use might be...complicated. You see, as a child, his father left him and his mother, forcing her to raise their son on her own. Alan never truly understood why they separated and whenever he asked, his mother would simply smile and pat him on the head while saying something along the lines of "we're just working through a few problems, dear. Don't worry, everything will be ok." However, Alan wasn't dumb. He could tell at a glance that his mother was just trying to make him feel better. As such, he did all he could to make her happy. He worked hard in school and even took up washing dishes and sweeping the floor, among other things, to help when she came home from work, exhausted. However, even with a decent number of friends in school, and his mother's love, he sometimes felt a tinge of envy in his heart at seeing kids being raised by two parents instead of just one. Regardless, he grew up and completed his schooling, even earning a scholarship to a local college, much to the joy of his Mom and her side of the family. Alan wanted to pursue a career that would allow him to entertain and make people happy, and his Mom supported him all the way, even after he moved out on his own. However, it seems the powers that be had other plans for the young man. One weekend, he decided to pack a knapsack and go out in the wilderness to have some time alone and to see a meteor shower that was suppose to be happening. One of the "stars" though fell not far from him and when he went to investigate, found a small alien creature in a pod. Having seen enough movies to know the government would do terrible things to an actual alien, Alan took the creature home with him and nursed it back to health. Although it couldn't speak at the time, it was still able to communicate through audio cues and drawings and Alan learned the "alien" was actually a fragment of a much larger cosmic entity whom was being held against its will by a group that was abusing its power for their own ends. Knowing that said group would likely return for his new friend he'd named Cosmos, Alan and his friend devised a plan. When they returned, Alan made it look like he had captured Cosmos and went along with the other aliens' spiels about being "galactic protectors" and even offered to take him to their headquarters. Once there,Alan learned of how the group had been constantly draining The Entity and using its power to forcibly promote peace and they even gave him the chance to join their ranks. However, upon seeing Cosmos hurt reaction to its Mother's pain, Alan instead shut down the machines holding the Entity, allowing it to break free and exact its revenge, robbing the group of their power and influence. The Entity then returned Alan to his homeworld and as thanks, allowed Cosmos to remain and bond with Alan, giving him a portion of its cosmic power to do with as he wished. Having dealt for a long time with how uncomfortable he was with an appearance that so closely matched his father's and his own insecurities about being male, Alan and Cosmos used their power to form the dimension-hopping witch, Quanta. However, it seems there are those cosmic beings who aren't comfortable with a human wielding such power, and thus came to them with a deal. In exchange for their services including cleaning up whatever messes are happening on a cosmic or dimensional scale that said deities can't deal with, they'll leave him alone. Alan and Cosmos aren't exactly happy with it, but decide to just go along with it. After all, as the old saying goes "with great power comes great responsibility". 4. Jaden was never one for big gatherings. Not that he was anti-social or anything of the sort, far from it, but more like he simply appreciated a bit of peace and tranquility, especially after a long day at school or hero work. However, when he heard about this Superhero Appreciation Night at this "Morley's Pub" he felt he might as well break his usual routine and get to know the locals a bit better. After agonizing over what to wear, and several snarky comments about his fashion choices from Gaia, he decided to go with something simple yet comfortable. A pair of forest green pants with black socks and shoes with a dark brown t-shirt and a black jacket over it, on the jacket's back was an outline made up of green jagged markings that formed into a large oak tree. With that done, he headed to the spot where the pub was and waltzed inside. Seeing several costumed heroes sitting at the counter suddenly made him swallow a lump in his throat. It's ok, man. It's ok, you can do this. Just...just do what that guy in that one anime always says! Believe in the you that believes in yourself! Having sufficiently psyched himself up, he walked up and took a seat, smiling at the bartender, "Hi there. I'll take a root beer float, thank you." The young man immediately face-palmed at what he had just said before deciding that he should strike up a conversation, "Hey, so I take it you guys are heroes too, huh? You probably don't know me anyways as I haven't been in town very long..." He noticed the book, "Any songs by Rush on there? I quite enjoy their music."
  5. "Of course. Not many people can turn down a chance to have free stuff," Jaden remarked in a good-natured manner to Maybelle's comment on getting free bread. He pulled out a piece of paper and a pen, laying them on the counter top, "Just write down your contact info and we'll get that order to you before the day is done. I won't even charge ya for shipping and handling," Chuckling, the young man let his gaze wander over to the other girl whom was once again displaying the amazing power her nose possessed. Of course, Jaden wasn't one to judge since he himself had seen far stranger things in his life. Heck, he was a walking, talking plant for crying out loud who just so happened to pull off a rather convincing impression of a human. He listened to their conversation, idly sipping a cup of water. The water having come from a jug next to him, "I take it you two know each other. If you want, I can pour you up some smoothies and you can sit down and chat. On the house, of course." Normally, giving away so much free stuff would seem suspicious but Jaden didn't really have much use for money at the moment.
  6. Well, it seemed the young baker was attracting all sorts of attention today. First, the rather excitable egg bread lover and now the owner of this place called...what was it?Southern Queen? Darn it, this was what he got for not taking in the sights more or taking advantage of the internet at the library. At the very least, the lady was kind enough to give a name, "Good day to you, Miss McQueen. Name's Jaden Maxwell. I'm the owner of this little shop here. You wanted quality you came to the right place." His words hardly sounded like boasting, but more like someone who took pride in their work and enjoyed it. "Excuse me?" A customer seated at a coffee table held up an empty cup, "Can I get a refill on that Deluxe Fruit Smoothie, please?" "Oh, of course. One minute, Miss Mcqueen," Jaden picked up a pitcher carrying what looked like a pink-purple gooey liquid inside and went over to refill the customer's glass at no charge before walking back, "Sorry about that, but I'm sure you understand the customer comes first. As for your bread shortage, I might be able to help you with that," Jaden pondered for a couple seconds what to do. He didn't really have much use for money but he couldn't make himself appear suspicious either, "Tell you what, I'll cut you a deal. The first batch of loaves is on the house. Your regular customers enjoy them, we can iron out the details on payment later...if they don't, you won't owe me a cent."
  7. "You have no idea what you're up against, human. I could easily slaughter the whole bunch of you with a thought if I wanted to..." Evergreen's voice echoed once more, and the hoodlums began looking to and from, expecting an attack of some sort, "...But I am not without mercy. I give you my offer again. Leave this place, and no harm will befall you." "Sorry, tree hugger," The thug's leader remarked as he put the syringe back in his side pocket, "But I know you. You aren't gonna do anything...heck, my boys could burn this whole forest down and I bet the most you would do is wag your finger and get us to sit in the corner," His smugness was short-lived though when the whole forest suddenly began to shake. "TRY IT! I DARE YOU!!!!" "Boss, please stop teasing the guy who's basically a walking disaster zone!!!" One of the men roared. "N-Now, now..." The skull-faced man put his hands up, "L-Let's be reasonable about this. I-I was just having a bit of fun...you can take a joke, right?" However, he was so involved in this conversation he didn't even notice the arrow flying towards his area...until it was too late. A loud explosion went off with such force it created a smoke cloud that could be seen for miles, men were sent flying every which way, screaming in pain though surprisingly very little blood could be seen. It was obvious that the attack wasn't meant to kill...but it still ruined quite a few soldier's day. Even their leader was blasted off his feet and sent flying into the trees. However, as the rest tried to gather themselves...Evergreen's connection to the wildlife backfired on him from the violent attack and he yelped in pain and clenched his noggin as he could hear the forest in pain. That's when he got the image...some of those men had explosive tanks hidden on their attire...flame canisters...basically whatever they needed to set the forest on fire. It was then Evergreen knew what he needed to do. He shot to his feet and put a hand on the tree, letting himself melt into it and taking off at breakneck speed towards the source of the terror. The guardian of the forest was coming...and he was NOT happy....
  8. Alright, the Thugs Roll came up as DC 17 on my end. Toughness Roll came up to a measly six so you are very lucky today.
  9. Well, here was an excitable one. Seriously, Jaden swore his newest customer had enough energy coming off her to power a nuclear plant for the next hundred years. He had to shake his head to clear his thoughts so he could focus again, "Umm, right...Challah, you say? Yeah, we just took a loaf out of the oven. I gotta say, that's an amazing sense of smell you got to be able to sniff it out from that far away..." Almost too amazing...Jaden thought to himself, only to dismiss the thought. It was none of his business since right now, he was simply a humble baker, not on hero duty. As such, he turned back to stick his head through a door, "Carl! Can you hand me that loaf of challah? Thanks." He shut the door before one could get a glimpse of the appearance of whomever handed him the bread. As the billboard out front proclaimed, the bread looked like it had just come out of the oven and had a thin layer of butter melting over the top. He set the entire loaf of bread down before her, "Here you go. That'll be three dollars....for the whole loaf. Anything else I can get you?" He asked with a smile as warm as the bread itself.
  10. From an early age, Jaden Maxwell had showed a love for cooking and baking, and was surprisingly talented at it too. Even before entering high school, he was able to confidently fry simple meals like eggs and bacon, or even put together mouth-watering chocolate chip muffins for a bake sale. Needless to say, he was very much within his element when making tasty delicacies. The sight and smell of freshly-baked bread and rolls alone was enough to remind him of the good times he had growing up...and that he still had a lot to live for. Wanting to give something back to the locals, he had opened up a small bakery on Riverside. A humble and modest shop that was set up like a square and painted with warm colors such as white and soft browns. Tables and chairs were set up outside and surrounded by rows of bushes with blooming flowers and roses to give off a pleasant, inviting atmosphere. A large billboard was above the oak door displaying a large tree that had a variety of sandwiches and pastries growing on its branches. Plastered on it were the words: "Homegrown Breads. Have A Slice Of Quality." "Thank you, come again!!" Jaden called out to his latest customers as they left the store carrying their orders. He sighed and nodded to himself with a smile before turning back to fill out another order. Even though the bakery was just getting off its feet, it had already attracted a nice amount of business which likely had to do with the delicious food that came in considerable portions yet at very generous prices too. The young man took a moment to himself to look up at a portrait of a younger version of himself sitting with his Aunt and Uncle under the Christmas tree. Warm smiles everywhere. Hopefully, one day they'd be able to be together again...but for now, there were orders to be fulfilled.
  11. Alright, I'm gonna start writing up the intro post to the thread. Expect to see it soon
  12. Heh, sounds good enough for me
  13. Alright, so trying to uncover the mysteries behind this unusual bakery sound like a good plot for you guys? Anything else you'd like to explore?
  14. Starting up this thread to discuss a thread revolving around a Bakery that Jaden manages as part of his day job and cover. All of his food is produced fresh and guaranteed to delight, or your money back. Chocolate pastries, cinnamon rolls, fruit-filled tarts, the list goes on. However, whom are the mysterious workers in his bakery? Where exactly does all his produce come from? Why is the kind-hearted baker hardly ever seen tasting his own treats? Is there more to this bakery than meets the eye? Alright, let's see who's interested and if you guys got any suggestions how to expand on this, the plot, or anything.
  15. The men in black continued their march through the trees, scanning the area around them but for the moment they hadn't noticed anyone tailing them. However, just because they looked like any other group of hoodlums didn't mean they should be taken lightly. After all, any group willing to walk around with weapons in broad daylight were the kind of people just asking for attention, trouble, or some mix of the two. Suddenly, a voice echoed all around them, reverberating through the trees and the earth itself, though it was impossible to pinpoint the source or whether the voice was male or female, "Humans...you trespass on grounds that are under my protection. Whatever you came for, you will not find it here. I give you one chance to return to where you came from. Do so, and no harm will come to any of you. I will pretend as if you were not even here..." The men in black all looked at each other and despite the masks, their body language suggested at least a few were considering it. "Don't lose your nerve, boys," one of the masked men remarked as he stepped forward, his mask having a pair of horns painted on it along with wearing slightly beefier-looking body armor, indicating someone of rank, "Remember what we came here for. Now, let me do the talking..." He looked up at the trees, "So, I heard you're the "boogeyman" who's been all the rage on the news lately, huh? You know, you put quite a few of my men in the hospital..." For a couple seconds, the voice was quiet, before it suddenly answered, "Those men made the choice to terrorize innocent people and steal from hard-working citizens. They have no one to blame for what befell them except themselves." "Ah, another one of those folks whom loves playing "judge and jury" with their powers, huh?" The masked man snickered despite the slightly condescending tone, "Why you gotta be like that, man? I mean, the economy's tough. You do what you gotta do to get by...now why don't you give yourself up and let us turn you in for the bounty on your head? Trust me, it'll be easier on all of us..." As he was talking, he pulled out a syringe and started inspecting it from all sides.
  16. Just making this OOC thread to help better expand on ideas and what not.
  17. Far off in the forest, if one traveled far enough, they would eventually stumble on to a old greenhouse. However, the sight of vines growing up the sides and the bits of moss on the windows would be enough evidence to suggest this place had been abandoned for some time...so why were there still lights on inside the building? Well, let's step a little closer and find out, shall we? If one stepped through the front doors, they would likely find themselves in a place that looked like it came from a storybook, exotic flowers of all types and sizes grew inside the building and a long dirt trail led towards a large oak tree as big as a house with birds and small animals of all kinds flocking and going about their business without a care in the world. Sitting under the shade of this particular tree was a rather peculiar figure. Humanoid but colored various shades of green to highlight features like a tunic and pants, white rose petals made up its hair and a mantled long coat covered its body while a green eye mask shielded its face. It had its eyes closed as if peacefully meditating, just enjoying this moment of peace that it had won after so much conflict back where he came from. Suddenly, he opened his red eyes, the forest having told him that he had guests. Some of them good...but others...not so good.... Namely the idea that the woods outside were crawling with men dressed in black uniforms and wearing skull masks and armed to the teeth with heavy weaponry as they moved through the trees on a seek and capture mission...or a search and destroy mission...
  18. When it came to walking through an empty park during night fall, the majority of people's opinions fell into one of two categories: The first category said they loved it for how romantic and tranquil it could be, giving certain people a chance to express how they truly felt without fear of being embarrassed in some way. The other category is that it was basically the equivalent of a death trap as there could be any number of seedy, unruly scumbags lying in wait to pounce on unsuspecting victims, beat them to a pulp, and rob them of all their valuables....and believe it or not, that was only if you were lucky. Tonight was a fine example of both categories playing out. A romantic couple whom we will call Shane and Julia had just been enjoying a peaceful night out, going about their business...when a group of hoodlums had approached them, demanding money if they wanted to live. The two had beaten a hasty retreat and managed to lose them within the woods...unfortunately, by the time they had done so, they had ended up well off the beaten trail and in the middle of nowhere. The two had wandered for some time to get back to the trail but to no avail. As time went on, Shane got more and more fed up with their current situation, "Julia, please tell me you got some reception already! I feel like we been wandering for hours and my feet are killing me!" "Oh quit your bellyaching, Shane," Julia rolled her eyes as she checked her phone and cursed to herself, "Darn it! Still nothing! At this rate, we're gonna be stuck out here all night!" "All night?! Please tell me you're joking..." Shane groaned like a kid whom had just had their favorite toy confiscated, "You do realize this is all your fault, right?!" "Excuse me?!" Julia whirled on her boyfriend, eyes blazing with the red fires of fury and indignation, "Oh no, you don't get to blame this all on me, mister! You're the one who thought it was a brilliant idea to go walking through the park in the middle of the night!" "Whoa, whoa, easy there, Julia!" Shane put up his hands, feeling he had said the wrong thing, "We're both just...tired, ok? How about we sit down for five minutes and then we-" Suddenly, the rustling of bushes could be heard around them, "What the..." From them emerged half a dozen men dressed from head to toe in attire that made them blend into the dark scenery so well they were like shadows. "Ah geez...they found us!" "No duh! What was your first clue, Sherlock?!" She and her lover stood back to back as the hoodlums approached, "Shane, I just want you to know before we die...I was the one who ate the last slice of pizza in the fridge the other night." "That's alright, Julia.." Suddenly, it sunk in what she had said, "Wait, you what?!!" However, before the hoodlums could get any closer, that's when IT happened. The plants around them, and even the tree branches, suddenly came to life, lashing out at them, grabbing and hauling them down to the dirt, causing each of the hoodlums to scream and cry out in shock and horror as they hacked away at their attackers with knives and shot them up with guns. However, for everyone they killed, two more took its place. One thug found himself yanked off his feet by a tree branch and slammed against another of his friends before both found themselves being squeezed together in a bundle of roots and stems. Another whipped out his gun and started shooting at a rapidly approaching pile of moss and vines, but his shots did little to deter the creature from its path as it launched itself through the air, grabbed him and dragged him off into the woods as he screamed bloody murder. The fourth and fifth went after their buddy only to have the ground explode open as a set of giant roots erupted from within to grab and restrain them. The last hoodlum, deciding that any pay to be made wasn't worth losing his life over, turned tail and ran off into the darkness...only for a loud scream to echo through the woods a few seconds later. The incredible thing though is that through this whole nightmarish scene...the pair of lovers were completely unharmed. In fact, it was as if the sentient plants were actively avoiding or even protecting them from their attackers. Despite this, fear still gripped their hearts as they backed away together, until they found their backs against...something. They hesitantly turned their heads and looked up...only to get the shock of their lives. The figure stood silhouetted in darkness and seemed to be wearing some sort of flowing coat over its lean, muscular frame. Its ruby red eyes staring right through them. "P-Please don't hurt us, mister...please, please..." They begged the creature before them. It said nothing...only raised a hand to point behind them, like it were giving a silent signal. The two looked ahead...and saw a new trail that had not been there before. When they looked back...the figure was already gone. Deciding not to stick around, they followed the new trail and before long, were back in the safety of civilization... _________________________________________________ Needless to say, it wasn't long before the pair's story spread like wildfire, and only helped to fuel the growing mystery that had cropped up almost overnight. Videos, pictures, and so on all helped to only create more questions. Who was the mysterious figure hiding out in local parks and in forests all around Freedom City? Where did they come from? What did they want? Just what was the truth behind the shocking behavior of the local wildlife? There was no doubting that quite a few people were kept on edge....It hadn't killed anyone, sure...but was this entity a force for good, truly? Only time would tell...
  19. Hey guys. It's me, Gamer. This is just a recruitment pitch for my character intro thread for Evergreen. Here's an overview: When news start circulating of a mysterious creature prowling a particular park and preying on select individuals whom terrorize others, and it coincides with a sudden rise in plant life within said park that is rumored to be tied to an abandoned greenhouse, certain heroes unite to unravel the mystery...but what secrets does the park, and by extension, the green house hold? And who or what is the one known as Evergreen? For more info on Evergreen, here ya go: http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/topic/9636-evergreen-pl-10-gamerxz/ A link to the actual IC thread: http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/topic/9645-chosen-by-the-earth/
  20. CHLORO-FILLED OUT by Fox For My Evergreen Sheet, I'd like to clarify his immunity to Suffocation and its limits: Plant Respiration, breathes CO2, immune to choking/blocked airways.

Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTGfvj-QPqE Alternate Identity: Jaden Maxwell Birthplace: Alternate Earth Residence: An abandoned greenhouse he managed to renovate. Base of Operations: Same as residence. Occupation: Works as a Baker at his own shop when not out being a hero or tending to his plant friends. Affiliations: None at the moment, though it's my hope to have him establish a working relationship with various heroes. Family: Has an Aunt and Uncle back on his Earth named Laura and Adrian Maxwell respectively. Description: Age: 20 (DoB: April 17, 1996) Gender: He's a plant elemental. He technically doesn't have one Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5 foot, 10 inches Weight: 200 pounds Eyes: Brown Hair: Jet Black in a crop cut. Appears to have the physique of a young man who engages in modest amounts of exercise with fair skin and the traits listed above. He can typically be seen wearing clothing that fits the climate, such as a blue tank top and brown shorts during warmer months and a hooded coat with boots, hat and gloves when it gets cold. Ever since his transformation into a living plant, he tends to sway between different forms depending on his mood. However, perhaps the one he is mainly seen with is a humanoid figure colored in emerald green with darker section to highlight features like a tunic and pants. His hair is actually white rose petals arranged in a sweeping style with a green eye mask and red eyes. He also wears a type of mantled long coat that shares a similar color scheme to the rest of him. History: Jaden had, for the most part, a normal upbringing growing up. He was born to a loving Mom and Dad who took good care of him for the first few years of his life and he had an Aunt and Uncle who thought the world of him that he frequently visited on the weekends or during the holidays. However, when he was about 7 years old...tragedy struck. One night, he was at his Aunt's place watching cartoons when the phone rang. His Aunt went to answer it only to drop the dish she'd been drying in horror at what the police man on the other end had told her. Mr and Mrs Maxwell had been on their way home from a business trip when a drunk driver slammed into them, killing both parents at once. Needless to say, it was like Jaden's entire world had come crumbling down in the course of just one night. After the funeral, Jaden was taken in by his Aunt and Uncle and it quickly became evident that despite the fact that they treated him well, that life was not going to be easy since both relatives were in their elderly years and they did not have too much money. As such, Jaden had to learn at a young age to pitch in and be self-sufficient, helping his folks around the house and gradually learned skills such as cooking, cleaning dishes and even pulling weeds out of the garden. It didn't help that they ended up having to move twice even before he got into high school. Life was difficult but it wasn't bad by any means as the young lad excelled in his classes and enjoyed helping others with their work. He took on a part-time job at one point to help his folks too. Of course, he sometimes let himself get lost in video games and anime as he got older. Eventually, he graduated from high school to the delight of his Aunt and Uncle and seemed to have a bright future ahead of him. However, that's when his life took a most unexpected turn. During one summer, he took part in a field trip set up by a club he use to be part of that were planting trees in an area that had recently been decimated by a wildfire. During the program, Jaden caught sight of a bear cub that had slipped into the water and was now heading down the stream towards a waterfall. Without thinking, he risked his life to save the cub and return it to its family. Despite not thinking much of it, someone else took notice of his act... That night, he was visited by a voice in his dreams. The voice introduced itself as Gaia, Spirit Of The Earth. It had watched the man's act and, despite its usual indifference towards humans, had been intrigued by his selfless act despite the fact he had risked his life and got no reward out of it. He explained that he didn't do it for a reward but because it was the right thing to do and that he didn't want anyone else to endure the pain of lost loved ones. Growing ever more intrigued with him, the spirit handed him what she called the "Seed Of Gaia" and that she would give him the chance to prove to her that humans and the Earth could co-exist together. With that, the dream ended...Jaden thought no more of it. One night though, he was in his room, doing some reading when he heard a commotion downstairs. Going to check, he saw several men in black suits ransacking the place while holding his Aunt and Uncle at knife point. For a brief moment, he felt like a small boy all over again, like history was about to repeat itself...but not if he had anything to say about it. When the men saw him, they shot the young man on the spot...only for his wound to heal up within seconds, causing all those present to freeze in shock. Anger fueling his actions, Jaden's power activated and vines broke through the windows and floorboards, disarming the men and slamming their bodies against the walls over and over again with enough force to shatter the plaster. However, just when it looked like he was ready to do the unthinkable and take their lives...his Aunt and Uncle's voices brought him back to reality. He collapsed to his knees, sobbing and wondering what he had become. His folks consoled him as the would-be murderers were taken into custody, likely traumatized for life by the ordeal. The police asked questions but nobody was in the mood to give the actual story. After having some time to calm down, and being reminded that his Aunt and Uncle still loved him, it was decided that he needed to learn control since the world was likely not ready for an individual like Jaden. As such, the next week or so saw him practicing with his new abilities and growing quite adept at them. His body underwent more changes until he instinctively created a new identity for himself to go with his new form. It was around this point that an event happened that awoke his inner hero and made him realize that his powers were meant for bigger things. A powerful Fae had come to his town by the name of Glastig and, true to the myths surrounding her, went about luring in unsuspecting men and draining them of their blood, leaving lifeless corpses in her wake, meant to gather strength as her followers constructed the pieces for a gate that would open a way to the Fae Realm and allow her army to come through. After several close calls, and having his family's lives endangered and discovering that his supposed girlfriend was a dirty coward willing to sell him out to secure her own future as a journalist, Evergreen cornered and exposed Glastig, in the process destroying the gate and closing one of the links to the Fae Realm for good. One lengthy battle later, Glastig was defeated. Evergreen refused to kill her...but that didn't mean he or Gaia let her off the hook either. In an event that still haunts him, Gaia, manifesting physically, transformed Glastig into a plant entity...and then Evergreen transformed the fallen Fae into a tree for the rest of her days. Victory was his...but at the price of never again reclaiming a normal life or his humanity as the power he had inherited had transformed him completely. Not helping matters is, upon realizing his girlfriend didn't love him and had betrayed him, broke up with her, leaving him somewhat downtrodden. As if all that were not enough, his new powers had changed the very concept of his existence somehow and thus made him fundamentally incompatible with his home reality. He was slowly fading out of existence, and time was running out... Thankfully, Gaia provided a solution in using her connections to transfee him over to another parallel Earth where he could remain until a more permanent solution could be discovered. After agonizing over the decision and, realizing other heroes were starting to appear on his Earth to take up the torch, decided it was for the best, bid good-bye to his loved ones and was thus whisked off to the other Earth...an Earth very similar to our own yet very different... What adventures await from here? And how will his experiences change him? Only time will tell... Personality & Motivation: Jaden is for all intents and purposes a rather easygoing and calm individual. He enjoys life for what it is and tries not to worry too much about the future. Growing up with his Aunt and Uncle bestowed on him the values of hard work and independence, as such when he commits himself to something he tends to see it through, regardless of the consequences. Being a fanboy of anything related to anime or video games, when he runs into someone who shares what he is into, he can get surprisingly passionate and ecstatic, to the point that he briefly stops acting his age and behaves like a kid in a candy store. Inspired by the comics he read growing up, he has a strong sense of justice and morals and tries to see the good in people along with being willing to stand up for those who can't do so for themselves. He does not want to see anyone else suffer the tragedy of lost loved ones, but that does not mean he is blind to the real world either. He is aware that unfortunate things happen regardless of what one does in life but does not see that as a reason to do nothing either. He does have a fun-loving side to him too, sometimes using his power to pull off jokes or pranks on his friends all in good fun. Powers & Tactics: Evergreen has not had much in terms of professional training with his abilities...ok, to be more exact, none at all, other than what he's learned through practice and experience. His favored tactics seem to scale to the threat. As such, unless it is not possible, he'll use his plant friends to scout an area before moving in to take out a group, utilizing his plant powers from long range to wear them down before moving in to mop up the leftovers with some hand to hand combat. He also prefers to avoid using lethal force unless it's a situation where it's required. Power Descriptions: Being an avatar for Mother Gaia means Evergreen has total control over any and all forms of plant life and thus can call upon their aid whenever he wishes. His uses for it range from simply calling upon vines and roots to constrict and crush his targets to turning giant sunflowers and watermelons into turrets that shoot seeds as bullets. However, because his original body has been transformed into plant matter, his strength, agility, and endurance are no longer trapped within human limits, allowing him to pull off feats that, although not up to the level of traditional physical-based powerhouses, is still enough to seem superhuman, and he even has a radar-like sense that allows him to commune with other plants. Having a body made up of plant matter also means he has total control over its shape and flexibility, allowing him to morph his limbs into various kinds of weaponry such as hammer fists, spiked maces, blades, and so on, and can even alter his appearance to varying degrees. He is immune to poisons and disease and does not age at all, being virtually immortal. Complications: Fire And Ice: Evergreen maybe extremely powerful but that strength comes with a hefty number of weaknesses. Not the least of which is having a severe weakness to extreme heat and cold. His creations will either burst into flames or eventually freeze solid if exposed to these elements for too long and he himself is not safe from them and he will likely maintain his distance unless otherwise. Usage of these elements is perhaps one of the only ways to permanently destroy his physical form, or at the very least incapacitate him. Also, this could make it difficult for him to work with individuals who have said abilities. Sun And Water Dependence: Another weakness is that Evergreen derives much of his power from his connection to the sun and the water. As such, while he is stronger during the day and/or near bodies of water, the opposite is also true since as the light wanes, that power diminishes. Not enough to make him completely helpless, but enough that an enemy could eventually gain the upper hand by severing him off from the source of his strength, which can be done by facing him within enclosed spaces and what not. Corruption: Similarly to another hero themed around the environment, pollution is another way to get the upper hand on Evergreen in that although he is immune to things like poison and disease, actual pollution such as oil can have a detrimental affect on his physiology if he gets too close to it. Also, although it may partially due to his transformation, he does not have a high opinion of people who shamelessly pollute and destroy the environment for no good reason. A Stranger In A Familiar Land: One of Evergreen's reasons for coming to this other Earth was to get away from everything and find some peace of mind. However, an alien world like this makes it sometimes difficult for him to fit in. After spending so much time as a solo hero, he is eager to meet others like himself but at the same time can occasionally be unsure how to handle himself, and having such a vast new, yet familiar, world to explore and interact with can be a daunting task at times. Doesn't Like Attention: Jaden has never been one to enjoy being the center of attention as although he is friendly and well-behaved the events since his transformation, and said transformation itself, have left him in a bit more of a rut than he is use to, and even getting a girlfriend doesn't really appeal to him much at the moment. However, if he intends to be a proper hero on this Earth, he may have to get use to stepping out into the spotlight... My Hidden Self: Although Jaden has revealed it to very few people, he is actually the kind of man whom is in touch with his feminine side, to the point that they use their abilities to crossdress and take on forms that have more of an androgynous and/or feminine appeal. This side of him is one mostly enjoyed in secret as he knows how judgmental society can be at times, and does feel some hints of secret shame, even if it is not really hurting anyone. Morality: Evergreen is an extremely moral individual who is well aware of what his powers are capable of and the responsibility that goes with them. As such, he tends to limit himself when facing his enemies, wanting to bring them in alive rather than severely harm them. He tends to also question himself and what the right course of action is in certain situations, especially in his struggles to maintain balance between the human world and the natural world, even if that means inconveniencing progress on one side of the spectrum or the other, and having some degree of honor means he will prioritize saving lives over pursuing the villain. Feeling alone and isolated from society now, Jaden was unsure where to turn to. He still enjoyed helping people but it didn't give him the same satisfaction it normally did, leaving him in a bit of a rut. Thankfully, Gaia provided a solution in using her connections to transferring him over to another parallel Earth where he may find people in need of his services and where he may find peace of mind at last. After agonizing over the decision, and realizing other heroes were starting to appear on his Earth to take up the torch, decided it was for the best, bid good-bye to his loved ones and was thus whisked off to the other Earth...an Earth very similar to our own yet very different... What adventures await from here? Will he find the peace he desires? 23. The young man blinked in surprise as he looked over the drawing. He took a deep breath and let his form settle back down into its original human shape. He flexed his hands and closed his eyes, thinking back to the family he had back home. Of how he had been told no matter what happened, he would always be loved regardless of what he looked like. "...There's not really a straight answer you can give to something like that," Despite what he said, his voice carried more certainty than it normally did, "I mean, everybody has their own expectations of what they want to see from someone else...and to be honest, I remember my Mom telling me multiple times that no matter how hard you try, you can't please everyone in life...so it's important to focus on what You can do," He held up his hand and clenched it tightly, "This power is a part of me now...so I hope the more I understand about it, the closer I'll get to understanding where I really fit in now."
  24. How had he let himself be talked into this? Oh right, because he was a frekkin idiot who couldn't keep his nose out of other people's business and was too soft for his own good. The young man from another Earth tightened his grip on his jacket as he stood outside the massive Freedom Medical Center, eyeing it up and down as he reflected on what had brought him here. It hadn't been anything special. He had just been out practicing his shapeshifting at the park, transforming into various fictional creatures he could recall...until he got a distress call from a nearby hospital that a bunch of terrorists were planning to blow the place up if they didn't get some absurd amount of money. Being one of the heroes equipped for infiltration missions, he had used his liquid form to sneak inside, knock out one of the guards, copy his appearance, sneaked in and beat the snot out of the other guards before turning into a sentient pile of goo again and devouring the bomb like it were a balogna sandwich. After that, he had smashed through the ceiling, knocked out the leader, and then to calm the children he morphed into a more friendly type of goo monster he had recalled from a certain piece of fiction and managed to calm them long enough for the other heroes to arrive. Needless to say, all this made the evening news and the hero known as Quantum Shift was now in the public spotlight....whether he liked it or not. Now, here he was. Ready to help a bunch of sick kids see that their lives still had meaning...and if there was one thing Mr White did not do was turn a blind eye to those in need. He sighed and psyched himself up before morphing into a puddle and sliding in the front doors, reforming his upper half as humanoid slime before the nurse out front, "Sup. Name's Quantum Shift. I think you guys are expecting me?" "Ah, as a matter of fact, we are, Mr Shift," The young woman smiled and laid a clipboard and pen out for him, "Just sign here and you can go on in," The nurse didn't seem the least bit unnerved by his appearance. Either she had nerves of steel, or she was just totally use to this situation. It was likely a mix of the two. "Thank you." Shift went on down the hall, heading towards his destination and, hopefully, take his first steps towards becoming a true hero...
